She told me any weight gained before week 20 isn't baby related and it is just weight I gained. I do crossfit 5 times per week and eat healthy with the occasional skinny cow ice cream bar! She really upset me! She expects 2 pound total gain by the half way point...what??
That's just plain bonkers! I use an app (I think its called "I'm Expecting") to track weight gain, and there is no category (pre-pregnancy underweight, avg, or overweight) for which a 2 lb gain is considered anything close to excessive in the second tri! According to the app for 19 weeks (where I'm at) with starting pregnancy slightly overweight anything between 5-10 lbs is normal. I suggest getting a second opinion before you make yourself crazy worrying about what this one nurse said.
That nurse is absolutely wrong. I recommend going to ACOG - the American College of OB-GYN and see their recommendations. It's 1-4 lbs of gain during the first tri (14 weeks) and then 0.8-1 pound weight gain per week after that. This is assuming you started with a normal BMI (18-24.9) You're doing great!
I'm in my 19th week and I maybe have gained like 2 pounds..I'm definitely eating and I can feel I got a baby bump going, I just haven't been gaining weight. Doctor appointment next week, if anything seems weird to her she'll let me know. By the way, I jumped to 180lbs when I first found out I was pregnant, dropped to 165 during first trimester (sick everyday) and now I hover around 167-8..so I'm not exactly a small girl.
18wks 2days and I've gained 4lbs total. I was nauseous my first trimester but never had any problems eating. I gained 40 with my first so I've been cutting out the sweets and not eating late at night. I'm also busy chasing a toddler. Hoping to keep my weight gained between 20-25lbs total this time around!
I'm 19 weeks and have gained 7lbs. With my first I lost a lot of weight first tri and this one I wasn't sick so I was worried I would gain too fast but Dr said 7lbs is perfect for this point in pregnancy
Please don't feel discouraged. Many women that lose weight are often not thin to begin with. Im 5'3 and started out at around 109lbs. For me it was nearly impossible to lose weight. Im a size 0. For those that have lost, I am sure most of you were not really thin to start. Every woman is different and every pregnancy is different.
I kind of wish this thread would go away because every time I see it on the front page I am reminded I feel like a whale.
Kidding, kind of. But as long as my doc says I'm healthy and on track I try not to stress. I think I'm at 15 pounds at 16 weeks.
Hahah I feel you. I've gained over 15 pounds at 18 weeks.
I hate this thread! I'm at 19+6 and have gained 12 lbs, from 112 to 124. My doctor says I am doing great, and it's really mostly in my boobs and belly, but all of you ladies who haven't gained any weight (or who have lost it) are making me super insecure. I've always been very thin, and have to keep reminding myself that I'm pregnant, and not fat!
Oh I found my body twin! Thank you!
I started at 113lb and have always been in the 109lb-113lb range for weight. So earlier this week I posted my shock that despite losing 5 lbs in the first trimester, I have since ballooned to what I thought was 120lb. Well... I weighed myself this AM and I'm actually at 123.5lb. I see the OB this AM and since I just down breakfast, I'm sure that number will look slightly higher on this end. WTF! How on earth did I basically gain 16lb in 6 weeks (taking into consideration my -5lb in the first trimester). Just gross.
Same here! I started at 112 and am now 126... Second baby. I work out 4-5 days/week and eat pretty healthy. I remind myself that my body is doing what it needs to do and I'm doing everything as I should. I'm hoping the exercise keeps me from growing wider. I do feel like my hips look completely different, it's a boy, my first was a girl and I felt rounder with her.
18 weeks 3 days and down 17 lbs. Never lost this much being pregnant and this my third. People are always asking are you sure your pregnant like I am trying fake my pregnancy or something. Can't wait to get a bump.
I'm at 20 weeks and at my appt on friday they told me I've gained a total of 5 pounds. Thought it should be more since I've had no morning sickeness. But i was told that as long as the baby is gaining then its fine!
At my 16 week appointment I was only up one pound but I've had severe all day sickness could barely keep anything down finally starting to actually get some food in my belly but still get sick sometimes.
Seriously ladies, I don't understand how you can be not showing halfway (this is pure jealousy speaking on my part :-)
I am 19 wks, started with 138 lbs, I have first lost 4 lbs and then put on 8 lbs which does sound pretty standard to me but I have a really huge belly, I can hardly tie my show laces now. I have overgrown my maternity jeans which I had to buy somewhere round week 10. I am still hoping that I am having twins that they didn't see on the ultrasound... Otherwise I just must have lost a lot of muscles, so that must be many 'hidden' lbs that I cannot see on the scales..
If I weighed myself correctly this morning, I've gained 13 lbs at 20w2d which kind of makes me want to cry because I'm overweight already and shouldn't be gaining that much. The last few days my sodium intake was higher due to eating out with family, eating leftovers, etc. so I'm sure part of it is water retention. But I have my 20wk appointment today and I'm nervous I'm gonna get scolded. I've always hated going to the doctor because they remind me I'm fat (I already know that and I've tried... I just suck at losing weight), I don't want my OB to be the same way.
I'm 18 weeks and I've gained 9lbs. I started at 131 and now I'm up to 140 and I'm 5' 7.5" My doc says I've gained way more than he would like to see...it's really making me feel discouraged...He told me to exercise more and cut back on my portions. I haven't changed my diet or exercise from before the pregnancy and generally eat quite healthy overall...not sure what to think
I would totally be finding a new doctor. That is out of line. 9 pounds at 18 weeks is totally normal.
