I really wish ladies would stop sharing how dialated they are and asking for guesses on how much longer things will take or suggestions on how to get there faster. Just...relax, calm down, go with the flow, whatever...but don't expect me to know more about your body than you and your doctor.
I'll share it on the weekly appointment thread so that other ladies and lurkers can read our experiences and (hopefully) not start a single thread about it. But honestly I know the info I get is basically rubbish. I can't do anything with it. It satisfies my 'how do things work?' itch, but other than I'm not taking anything away from it
BUT I'm 4cm dialated already! Can't the crystal ball tell me yet !? Ugh. I'm normally a quiet one....but let's keep bumping this for the love of the bumb gods.
I'm an engineer and I can't believe how many husbands will announce how far dilated their wives are. One went so far as to track dilation vs time for his last 2 kids to compare progress. I strictly forbade DH from ever talking about my cervix in public, which was a conversation I never thought I'd have to have.
I will have this baby before July 10th. That is the day I will be at 42 weeks thus if baby hasn't come, I would be induced.
That's all I am able to know for sure. I'm hoping little one decides to show up June 21st. It would be cool to have him/her on Father's Day
My husband was born on Mothers Day 30+ years ago so he really wants the baby to be born on Father's day. We're due the day after so it's definitely possible!
I'm pretty sure us FTMs know that every woman is different, but this is new to us so we're looking for advice from many different women on their many different experiences so we know what to expect. No need for all of you to be so condescending. I know you can't predict when my baby will come, but I'd like to know your experience nonetheless. Can't you remember being curious? Wondering if you should be more concerned about this or that symptom? My OB barely spends five minutes with me each week, they don't do cervical checks so excuse me for wanting to read about others experiences.
We have 2 threads for others experiences. It's called weekly appointments and daily symptoms. Weekly appts is where everyone shares how their baby is doing/measuring and if they are dilated etc.... Or anything else. So slow your roll OP. This thread is to tell you not to ask random strangers if you are in labor. We don't know your body.
Weekly appointments and daily symptoms don't tell me about your previous pregnancies or whether what I'm experiencing is normal. I'm due at the beginning of the month so usually by the time people are posting symptoms similar I've already gone through it. I have never posted here about whether I'm going into labor or not, but I do rely on the BTDT Moms I know for guidance and support and I personally love following the "is this normal for this to be happening now, or should I be concerned of labour?" Threads because it reassures me that everyone is different and it's all normal. I understand its annoying to BTDT Moms but I find it useful. I know I came off badly, I just don't think women expressing themselves and asking questions about the things they worry about if it gives them peace of mind as a bad thing.
Those threads ARE where people ask questions. I think if you read them you will see that. There are a lot of examples. People ask if this pain is normal or if diarrhea is normal ?! Etc....
Here we go again..... I wonder if I searched for "asking questions" how many of the "she's just asking a question/we are here for support...posts I would find"
No offense to you @Canmu but you are just singing a very old and very tired song.... I would post a rebuttal but this battle/debate is getting pretty old and boring. Which is why I've been a bit less active after my last round of this.
I apologize, I clearly don't spend enough time on the bump. I'll go read those threads, for more information then. I haven't checked out those threads in awhile, and I remember it mainly being about venting over symptoms, so I thought those threads were just for what the title says, disregard my comments if I'm completely ill-informed. I'm a sucker for title bait. I would delete my comments until I've reread those threads, but I don't know how. I will go back and check out those threads before I form any more opinions
Canmu- this thread answers any question you will have.. Anything else you are just asking for would be false information.... Potentially giving you false hope. I also recommend looking at the May board... They have something similar but more in depth, and I think it's a sticky. No one wants to answer the same question over and over again, and if someone tells you that something will happen "this way" they are lying. And just because someone has one situation, yours will not go as such.
Thank you! I promise you won't be disappointed. Today we covered everything from minor symptoms to GBS to babies blood sugars...... Dilation and effacement sharing all the fun stuff.
I'm a FTM and totally curious in the way @Canmu described. Before reading this thread and related posts, I had NO idea that dilation meant nothing! I always thought you get pregnant, you usually stay pregnant for 9 months, one day your water breaks unexpectedly, and then you go from 0 to 10 centimeters over the next maybe 8-36 hours and baby arrives.
Since I spend time reading through lots of threads, I have a better sense from the ladies on here what is "normal". And I actually love the sarcasm and condescension because it keeps me in check and makes me be normal, too! But when I am clueless and need help or info, they always provide answers - on the appropriate thread.
I agree our thread titles are not always super clear to new readers. However. As this is a site marked "community", I did know it was better to read through the "New here? Read this first" post and lots of other posts, before I jumped in with my own questions.
Good luck to all the ladies, and welcome to those who take a moment to chat and realize this isn't Google or Yahoo Answers. @Canmu your response was great, and I hope you stick around!
@canmu I do hope you stick around too! I'm a FTM but also one of the folks who agrees that not every symptom needs a thread. I also didn't know much about dilation, like @amark11 but I really find the weekly appts thread really good for these types of discussions. Welcome and good luck!
And second - @Canmu I'm also a FTM and have found information here that is helpful, but found that most of my questions were answered by reading past and present threads if I just let conversation evolve naturally. I've asked questions and started threads, sure, but I've always been an 'active listener' so I learn a lot without having to post something repetitive. I personally get annoyed with repetitive posts because it feels like people are being selfish and demanding an answer to something that you (not YOU you, hypothetical you) would have a better grasp on if you just paid attention. Its just my personality.
Hang out. Its a fun board with well educated ladies from all walks of life with excellent points of view that will help you to open your mind to viewpoints you may have not considered. All we (hypothetical we/us) have to do is pay attention.
Just want to say I'm going to assume I am in labor only when the baby begins to crown. And I'm not gonna worry about dilation measurement bs at all. Also I found this gif...
