NO ONE can predict when you will start labor

As we get closer to our due dates and cervical checks begin, in an attempt to hinder a million of the same "I'm dilated do you think I will have my baby soon" posts.... Please please know that not even your doctor, let alone bumpies can tell you when you will go into labor, everyone is different and the one thing science still does not know.. is what kickstarts labor. If your Ob tells you you may "deliver early" you may, or you may not.... Truth is they don't know either. You can walk around dilated and effaced for weeks. I've had patients come in over a month early 90% effaced and 3-4 cm dilated...that ended up delivering at 41 weeks. Ive seen FTMs deliver early and precipitous, I've seen multiparas women have to be induced for post dates and have and extremely long labor... You just don't know...The good news is we are all close

Right every woman's body is different!!! You will have a different birth story than every woman on here. we can all feel our bodies preparing for labor. It's that time around here. I don't mind someone telling us why she thinks she may be in labor or early labor in the symptoms thread. We can all share scary feelings and anxiety that what were feeling is "it". That's what that thread is for.

Maybe we should start adding labor symptoms to the title. It had said sore boobs, weird poo, ect. Because we needed it to for the first trimester

THANK YOU!!! Can you please explain this to EVERYBODY in my life? I'm not making any plans farther than a few days out right now because I don't always feel like it and I don't have any idea when the baby might come. No one seems to get it, even if they've had kids.

I actually posted today about my dr saying I could go a week early. I rarely post anything and was excited to hear others' input. This is kind of a let down to think we should feel uncomfortable to question the what ifs and different scenarios that other FTMs are experiencing/feeling. Most of us are pretty smart, in that, we know everyone is different and there's no crystal ball to give us the exact arrival of baby. Even if I think posts are redundant, I'm all about lifting moms up at this stage in the game! So post away FTM's about questions, concerns, anything. That's what these threads are all about.

@jillholt80 - there is nothing wrong with sharing things and concerns, I agree that is what these threads are for. For example the weekly appt check in would be a great place to put what your cervical check is... Just trying prevent the same question from popping up over and over again, especially asking if your cervical dilitation means you will have your baby early...? Your doctor could have just as well told you that you could go a week late.

Declaring your effacement and dilation is neither a question nor a concern. 

The answer to the question, "Anyone else ever had this particular dilation/effacement/due date?" Is yes, EVERY SINGLE TIME 100% OF THE TIME. Yes someone somewhere has been in this scenario, and it still  means nothing about the onset of labor. At some point we will all be x centimeters and y% effaced. That's like asking if anyone is experiencing a loss of menstruation and a round hard belly over the course of their pregnancy. Curious to know what you actually envision an "uplifting" version of one of these threads to be.

What other response would you expect?

 "Yes, me too?"

 "Yes, woohoo, effacement twinsies!" 

"No, I am dilated/effaced but not that much/little?" 

 EVERY SINGLE TIME 100% OF THE TIME,the answer to "Am I in labor/will I be in labor soon?" is  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

 

 To me these posts are basically symptoms. I think the weekly appointment check-in thread might be a great place to post these.

I wish I could send this to the people in my life! My doctor said that he would induce me at 38 weeks and people keep asking me when that is! It's not an exact day people, it depends on a lot of factors. No one knows when their baby is coming, we all have to wait!

I get the whole lifting each other up and being supportive. I'm all about that. But there are so many different threads about the SAME thing with the same answer, "we don't know". It gets old.

Thank you for posting this. I know you may feel a little attacked by this @jillholt80 because you were the first to post about this topic in your own thread, but really I see it as a PSA to all of us that no one can predict when anyone's labor will start naturally. We're all antsy and ready to be holding out LO's so I know a lot of ladies on here are looking for "signs," but it's just one of life's fun surprises. Good luck to you and try and enjoy this wild ride of the last few weeks.

I'm the same way. I realize I have no say BUT if I can make it this week then I don't have to take maternity leave and I won't have to pay the school district's portion of my benefits. Again I realize that certain things are beyond my control but I am hoping positive thinking will help
