So for dinner I had calamari, sweet potato fries, half a burger, and a slice of cheesecake with strawberry.... Took blood sugar.... 110.....i love life tonight.
My parents wanted to take DH and I out to a nice dinner tonight. Mom was adamant about this particular Asian restaurant. I'd suggested a steakhouse that I knew would be safe, but she wanted Asian and I hadn't experimented with rice yet.
Fucking 185 after two hours. Sigh. I didn't eat a lot of rice, definitely within a 1/2-1 cup serving. So I think it's a combination of all the sugar that goes into their sauces and glazes and the rice itself. I treated myself to a couple pieces of DH's Vegas roll, which made me pretty happy. But overall not worth it. Rice and asian food in general are on my big fat NO list until after baby is born. At least now I know.
Had a growth scan today and an appt with my OB. Baby J looks great, measuring at 4.2lbs in the 25th percentile. So not too big! Lots of fluid, great heartbeat, doctor says I may not need NST's if I can maintain my sugars through diet. I feel bad for blowing it so badly at dinner after I actually got praises by my doctor today. And I think my weight has started evening out. I'm nearly back to my pre-pregnancy weight now that I've sorted out some of this eating stuff. And I figure if I'm not losing weight, then baby J can be gaining some, which is good news! In moderation, of course, because I want him healthy but not so big he can't be delivered vaginally.
So valuable lesson learned. Corn and whole grains, yes. Rice and white flour, no. I need to be extra good until next Wednesday so my GD nurse doesn't flip out over the occasional high readings I've had as a result of some bad food choices.
@BBnut my son was IUGR despite me having GD and I was induced at 37 weeks because of it. I haven't had an ultrasound since 20 weeks and my baby girl was measuring 6 days behind at that one so I'm nervous about IUGR happening again with her. I won't have an ultrasound for another 2 weeks
Soooo all the delicious food I ate from last that gave me a 110 reading..... Ruined by this mornings breakfast sandwich and yogurt that gave me a 148. Wtf?
Hypermesis and gestational diabetes in the same pregnancy is just mean. Very mean. I failed my 3 hour but can barely eat anyway.
I totally agree with you!! I have HG this pregnancy, finally got off my Zofran pump in time for all of this. I don't officially have a GD diagnosis, but I declined the 3 hour test after failing the 1 hour (152) because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the drink down. Doc said I need to test my blood sugars 4x per day for 2 weeks.
So, after 1 week of tests, my numbers look good all day long, except my fasting number. I cannot for the life of me get below 95 in the morning before breakfast. My doctor says I have 1 more week to figure it out before they just treat me as GD. She suggested a bedtime snack high in protein and complex carbs and low sugar... suggestions?

My answer for everything is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Hahaha...I'm jumping on the peanut butter train! It's been my lunch almost all week. I just do two slices of bread open faced with peanut butter. Be careful because not all bread is created equal! I eat Arnold's brand Protein bread because it has the least amount of carbs I've been able to find, never makes my numbers spike, and it's delicious!

It is impressive to me to see how many moms have had HG and GD. I really do wonder if there's a correlation.
I was never diagnosed with HG but got extremely sick. I was able to keep fluid down and that's about it. It took forever for me to get insurance active and I'm pretty sure if I had insurance I'd of been diagnosed. I lost almost 20 lbs in the first tri along with my appetite. It was not fun. Even through all that my first 3 hour came back perfect, the second I failed. I think it might have been because my appetite still hadn't returned. I struggle daily trying to get the allotted food down. I'm just not as hungry anymore.

I've been noticing that when my sugar levels get past 140 I get heartburn really bad. Has anyone else had this issue? I almost wonder if the 2 are connected in some way.
Having a meltdown day- it's been stressful this week trying to figure out meals & dealing with my husbands background investigator coming to town. Good news is he got the job & we'll be moving to the ocean in April!
I'm just exhausted & stressed & he's been working extra hours. My numbers have been all across the board with 68 as my low & 187 as my high. This mornings fasting was 147. I'm hoping for a break this weekend and a little time to myself. I haven't had any more contractions & my spotting has stopped.
I just want a Costco chocolate cake (the whole thing) a bag of chips & a giant liter of soda! I know it would fix my mood but not my gd problems.
Just stress. Take a bath if you can and relax. If a PIECE of cake and chips help.... Do it this once.... Then let it all go tomorrow. I think sometimes we put to much pressure on ourselves.
What do you ladies usually eat for breakfast? I'm not a fan of eggs... I know they are good because they are high in protein but I cook DD eggs for breakfast and about gag the whole time cause of the smell. Cereal is a no go, toast didn't work this morning, and now tomorrow I'm gonna try oatmeal. I'm just getting so frustrated and I'm only on day 3. My lunch and dinner numbers have been ok, and my fasting has been ok. Breakfast is kicking my ass though. Any suggestions ladies? I start metformin tonight so maybe that will help with my fasting and breakfast numbers.
I have been so bad this week, haven't had time to eat at home once. But a bacon and Gouda breakfast sandwich and a tall skinny vanilla latte at Starbucks typically clocks me in around 112 after 2 hours.
Usually I do bacon, eggs, and a small portion of breakfast potatoes or some peanut butter toast with raspberry leaf tea.

I found oatmeal English muffins at the store. They are double protein and taste great. For breakfast most of the time I do a pbj with the English muffins, bacon or sausage patty and an egg. Before GD the thought of eggs made me want to throw up, but after I choked a few down for the cause they seemed to taste better. I can also have 2 pieces of French toast or 1 packet of oatmeal..... I don't like the texture of oatmeal so I mix a yogurt in with it. If I eat more than one packet my number will be high even though it is in my carb limit. I use multi grain bread for everything, and I always do a side of eggs and meat with breakfast.
Seriously though my answer to life's problems is peanut butter and jelly. I made a whole meal plan so I could eat more than pbj.... And still ate only pbj this week. Basically because I'm lazy and they require minimum work and are sweet enough that I feel like I'm getting a treat. I don't think I will ever touch another one after Isa gets here.
I'm thinking there's something wrong with my meter. When I was in L&D, the nurse wanted to compare hers with mine. My number came in 10 points higher than hers, but she said that was acceptable. Well, except for the fact that my fasting numbers have been between 95-105, and my OB wants to see a 10 point drop this week.
Also, yesterday I tested at 148 after lunch, immediately retested and got 127. Rinse and repeat for my dinner numbers.

Gah!
I've been wondering how accurate they are. When I first started I had a 180 reading then I tested right after on another finger and it was 156.
It sucks to think I could be going through all these insulin problems for nothing. They upped my dose again today. Ugh.
Maybe I will try the pb&j. I ate some meatloaf for lunch and I was 118 an hour after, which made me super happy. I pretty much love any type of meat, so I'll get some sausage patties as well. Eventually I'll get everything figured out but getting to that point will be the biggest task. So glad I have you ladies here to vent to and for support!

I forgot to add use sugar free jelly. I found that it doesnt seem to matter if I use natural peanut butter or not though. I like the JIF whipped peanut butter it's great for sandwiches and celery.
I forgot to mention..... The carbmaster yogurt I was talking about also makes carbmaster milk that only has 3 carbs for both their regular and vanilla milk. I hate milk but this is pretty good. I used it in an instant breakfast I made for lunch and it made it a little sweeter tasting.
I didn't find the carb master yogurts, but I did find yoplait 100 calorie Greek in a few flavors ( Boston creme pie was one) that were acceptable carb #s for me, and one of the new low fat regular yplait was as well ( raspberry cheesecake). I like eggs, so I usually do eggs with either bacon or sausage, and sometimes make omelets, but thats almost always my breakfast and it's getting boring. I was really excited to find yogurts within my range.
I wonder the same thing with the meters. One day I tested and my number came back 400 something! !! Then I checked it again and it was 200 something and then again and it was like 180-190.
For those of you having meter trouble, did your meters come with control/ test dye? Mine didn't this time, but with my first I had to use it to 'calibrate' the readings. If yours didn't, you may want to ask your diabetes nurses or other professional about calibrating your meter.
Is that what that blue shit is? I had no clue. I threw out my instructions. I would think the nurse would have thrown that built of useful info in our little meeting.
Breakfast- I do a protein shake & fruit & cottage cheese.
Gnc's protein powder is good & I got it approved for pregnancy. Also when I know that my sugars will be high I have an extra one. It's been a life saver & has helped me get my high numbers back down quicker. I do a scoop & a half with cold water.
Bacon is also my friend. a couple of slices can get me thru until I know I can have a snack with a few more carbs. Breakfast foods don't have to be "breakfast" foods. If you can eat leftovers from the meal before or you know you love chicken or steak- eat what you like & what you know will help you out. If I start my day out with high numbers then usually my whole day is shot. I have to eat my most carbalocious meal in the middle of the day.
ANOTHER thing that I learned- In some people fasting numbers are higher because our bodies dump sugar early in the morning to help with the wake up process. I used to set an alarm & wake up & drink a protein shake but now sleep is more important. I do have a high protein snack before bed & it helps a little.
Everyone is different! This is just what has worked for me.
I didn't test all day....payday plus working late = no supplies. I assume I was fine because I ate my normal breakfast and lunch which never makes me spike but in smaller carb portions. Dinner was steak and veggies and I'm guessing it's ok because well....no carbs really. It was weird not checking my numbers today. A lot less stressful and made me so much more cautious of what I was choosing to eat.

So good right? I did it without the cocoa and used cheesecake pudding and coconut extract instead of chocolate and vanilla. It was pretty good but I still like chocolate the best.

It was absolutely heaven. A part of me wants to add peanut butter and have it for breakfast!

Having one of those " f it" days. This whole diet is so frustrating. It's hard to stay motivate to eat the way I should. My DH is very supportive but they just don't understand!! Just need to rant. It's okay to "forget" to check 1 day isn't it? I may have eaten an entire bag of peanut butter m&m's....

Lol I almost had a day like that. My morning numbers sucked. I was in a bad mood. I forgot to take my insulin before breakfast. My other two numbers were good though. I had pizza for dinner.... It almost put me over. I would take your numbers anyway, maybe they won't be as bad as you think.
Failed my 3 hour glucose miserably. My fasting numbers were 141. I am quoting my OB nurse. This is 2nd pregnancy in a row. Back to the strict diet. :-bd
@MehMeh76 this is my second pregnancy with GD and I found out at 14 weeks and I believe @jarrard1983 second pregnancy having it as well. Welcome! We have some very supportive ladies on this board!

This is my first pregnancy having GD. I wasn't far enough along to find out if I had GD with my first pregnancy.
We all need a fuck it day. I need multiple. I just want to go to fucking mc Donald's and get a Big Mac with large fries and a large regular coke and be fine. I would never eat this horrible, but it sounds delicious.
I've actually been good with burgers. Maybe try a burger small fry and diet coke?
