Yeah. It's extremely frustrating. Plus I'm still having issues getting supplies and having insurance cover things properly. GD is a full the job on its own.
Got home from a dr's appointment & feeling positve. Although we did up my meds I'm only on 5mg of glipizide once a day. I had lost another 6lbs in 3 weeks so she wants to continue watching my weight & increasing my calories. I really don't feel that I can eat anymore or drink anymore! Lol. Just out of room! She did notice sugar in my urine test & wanted to check it. It was 185 but I had a rice crispy treat with my daughter at a get together this morning. My dr. Actually applauded me for relaxing as she knows I'm super strict with diet & my levels. She wanted to make sure it wasn't spiking to over 250. The baby & I are measuring great & I feel a little less stress about that. Now if the stress in the rest of my life could just go away we'd be good! Lol.
I think my snack numbers have to be the worst. I felt bad so I ate some cheese and crackers (within my carb serving) and a small glass of milk (over my serving but usually no issue). I just checked about an hour and 20 min later and it's 137..... I'm so frustrated. Yesterday's numbers were good too. And today I've been super low. Like low low. Hang in there @jarrard1983
@ohana112610 you take your sugar after snacks too? Did your doc recommend that? Mine only told me to do it first thing in the morning and an hour after each main meal.
@ohana112610 I'd cut out checking after snacks. It will just add more stress about this whole diet thing that you don't need. A snack is supposed to be a snack, so let it be just that (not trying to sound like a bitch..more like Buddha in my head lol). Only with the first week I started checking my numbers I made a list of everything. What I was eating including snacks and my activity level for the day and it helped a lot. Now I'm able to see the reasons I spiked early on since I have a little bit more knowledge about what I can handle. All this is easier said than done because I'm still struggling to get good readings especially when I don't want to eat the same thing every single day!
So.....good snacks I've been having luck with are nuts (I go for almonds they keep me full for a long time), V8, peanut butter on celery, and cream cheese on a few wheat thins.I was told dried fruits and fruit as snacks can raise your sugar level and it's best to eat them with a meal. My Dr.even said I can eat all the low carb veggies I want so I'm trying to up my snacks with more veggies now. It's difficult to keep these damn numbers on an even keel.
I wanted to add that I'm with you on the feeling like it's low or high. It's hard to pinpoint gestational diabetes or just pain old pregnancy!

After eating a shit ton of food today all my levels except my fasting were great. I'm pretty sure I'm just not allowed to eat anything delicious at all.
Question. Does anyone have any suggestions for an extremely long day and food? During the week I work afternoons, but Saturday's I get up at around 5am and don't get home from work until 630pm and Sunday's I work morning as well. I can't seem to get my numbers right and half way through the day feel like I'm going to pass out (from really fluctuating numbers normally). I have tried different snacks and meal combinations that I know are low carb. Do you think it could be from exhaustion? Should I up my snack intake? I'm at my wits end with my weekend numbers...I was still high this morning too.

@melleasndrs maybe eat small meals instead? I'm under the impression that as long as the carbs stay within the numbers, we can eat as much protein as we like. So maybe you can add meat and cheese to your snacks or make a meal at snack time.
Guess I gotta add more meats and cheeses. Now I have to find a convenient packaged meat I can eat while working lol. Pretty sure slim jims are considered a no go.

@melleasndrs slim Jims might be ok. I actually got a party platter from the grocery store. It has cheese, crackers, pepperoni and salami. I snack on that. I also found packaged meat snacks in the same area. They were really good and I could just grab a handful when I was starving. That and cashews, almonds and other nuts are great quick snacks.
I'm thinking I'm going to just eat chicken wings from here on out lol. By a bunch, bake them and smother them I'm hot sauce or bbq. I can go for a hot wing snack pack with pepper jack cheese cubes and celery.
I'm just trying not you break the bank with a bunch of snacks in the house only I'll eat and possibly waste. Lunchables might be a good idea though.

During my hospital stay, I was spilling ketones because I couldn't keep any food down. They put me on a glucose drip for about 24 hours. My numbers were high but not crazy, once I was able to keep a meal down.
My fasting numbers stayed the same usual; between 95-105. I haven't been under 90 in 3-4 weeks. Yesterday, I was able to eat at regular intervals, and my numbers looked good. Then this morning my fasting number was 76. Normally, this would be a good thing, but it's so unusual for me that I can't help but be paranoid. I know once the placenta starts breaking down later in pregnancy, blood sugar numbers start to normalize. Oof. I guess this is what my NSTs are for.
Today was my shower. I didn't over do it but I did have a couple pieces of pineapple, a tiny piece of cake and a small glass of punch. I chose not to check my number. Snacks are my hardest part for whatever reason. And now I'm sitting here, haven't eaten in hours and I don't want dinner. UGH.

Try to eat something. I was busy with the nursery today and now my dinner won't be until 11pm. Then I'm suppose to eat a snack after that ugh.
If you don't eat a dinner maybe eat something like an apple and a pbj so your sugar isn't all crazy.

I ate some cheese and pickles hahahaha that's something
I am having the hardest time keeping track of things. I keep forgetting to take insulin right before eating.... I will finish eating and then remember to take it. I also will get distracted and not take my sugar on time. Any suggestions on a good way to remember. I'm to the point that I'm about to set a million reminders in my phone, which would put me on a strict eating schedule.... But I'm afraid eating at the same time everyday is unrealistic.
That is a great idea.... Maybe I'll just plaster sticky notes and all over my kitchen... I'd have to see reminders on the food cupboard and the fridge. I just get so excited to eat sometimes.
My oven won't stop buzzing until I get up.... So that's what a no go (lazy person problem) I could set it on my phone though... I just normally forget. Maybe I can add that to sticky notes too.
Woke up to my highest fasting number of 112 today. I'm exhausted beyond belief this morning and slept in. I know my numbers are just going to get worse today because have to eat before work and my numbers are already high. Sucks to feel defeated this early in the day. Plus I'm really fuzz brained and tired, feel like sleeping the day away, starving but don't know for what, and I hate today. Ok I'm done venting. I'm just really grumpy, don't mind me.

Your numbers won't necessarily go up. Get in the proper amount of carbs that were suggested and eat a lot of protein with them. I do two slices of peanut butter toast, eggs and bacon for breakfast. My fasting number is right maybe once a week..... And that is with insulin. They upped my dose again this morning.
I agree with @jarrard1983. I'm on medication and I've woken up with high fasting numbers too. My highest has been 130 but the rest of my levels through the day were fine.
What were your guidelines for being put on medication? My Dr just said we are going to keep an eye on diet, but I have no idea when they make the call to add it.

The nurse at my clinic specifically said that lousy sleep can make your fasting number high. So that might be all it is. Don't give up on the day yet!
I did diet control for the first 8 weeks and my doctor said it was working but not great. I've also put on very little weight. I lost 7 due to morning sickness and have put back on the 7 I lost and 2 additional. She noticed I wasn't gaining any weight and said and I quote, I feel like you're starving on this diet so I'm going to put you on medication so you can eat more. It's gotten my levels under control and my eating isn't as restricted as it was
I stared a thread about GD meal planning don't know I'll any of you might me interested. It's not to replace this thread. Just to give us some fresh ideas. I get super jealous of the regular meal plan thread.
Is 151 considered too high for 2 hours after eating?
My dietician wants under 90 for fasting, under 130 an hour after eating, and under 120 two hours after eating. I'm not sure if that's a typical expectation or not, but thats what I was told. So it would be a high number for me.
@stefmxo that number is a bit high. Does your specialist have you call in numbers? Was that your only high number today? What did you have as a meal before taking your sugar?
@Whitfry is a number that high something that would hurt the baby? Or would it be more of a constant out of control number that would do you think?
Have you seen a dietician yet?
From what I understand, an occasional spike is pretty normal. My nurse looks more for consistency. Because the hormones in our placentas are causing the issue, as the hormone levels fluctuate our tolerance for certain types of carbs etc will change and we will see occasional spikes. I've had some spikes, but they didn't seem overly concerned. Plus stress and other things can impact the way your body absorbs things and cause spikes as well.
When I have a post-meal spike, I try to take note of what I ate (I have a little notebook I write all my numbers in and take notes in too) so I can try to figure out what might have caused the spike. But one reading of 150 isn't something I'd be too worried about. I also sometimes get a bad reading and realize I forgot to wash my hands before testing. Sometimes if I wash my hands and re-test I get better numbers.
