I am pages and pages behind. DH's great aunt (more like a grandmother) fell yesterday and is in the hospital so DH and inlaws all flew cross country this morning. I'm on my own until Monday, which I'm really fine with, except LO seems to have his first case of pink eye and has a super bad diaper rash. I think the rash is due to his sudden obsession with apples. If his eye is still goopy and puffy tomorrow we will be headed to the pedi.
Sorry, this is kind of a random post. I guess I'm having one of those "when it rains, it pours" kind of days.
I hope all the sick LOs feel better asap! LO, DH, and I have been passing around LO's case of some annoying cold for going on nearly a month now. It's beyond old now. LO has his 18m appt on Monday and hopefully they won't tell us it's something more serious.
DH tells me there's only one glass left in our box of wine and it's mine. I watched him pour this beast out.
My parents, Cal and I went to a diner for dinner. We sat to the right of the door, so Cal was by the window watching everyone come and go. This guy was walking in and Cal and he were being silly through the window. After we finished, the waitress came over and said "this guy at the counter wants to buy your son ice dessert, he almost died today and almost killed someone and your son was the only thing that made him smile" so we got him a scoop of ice cream. When the guy walked by, we thanked him and he said "no, seriously thank you" and had tears in his eyes. He was outside when we paid and my dad took Cal out to talk to him. Turns out he is a truck driver and his wheels locked up today and he almost took out this little car with a whole family in it. He nearly ran off the road trying to save them from an accident and barely got out of it alive and didn't kill the family. He said Cal just made his day and he finally calmed down after hearing him giggle all through dinner.
Man oh man what a busy freaking day!!!! But it's my last day as the only adult in my house for the next 2 weeks!!!! Y'all I'm gonna have someone to keep my kids while I do stuff alone. Alone for the first time in almost 5 freaking months. I'm so excited!!!!!!!
Also got to FaceTime my sister and niece today. It's amazing how a baby can make things better. I'm still upset about the situation but y'all my niece is freaking adorable and being an auntie is pretty awesome! She makes the cutest little noises that remind me of a baby pig and when she gets mad she doesn't cry, she literally squeals! Her little tounge is constantly in and out of her mouth too.
Tonight we had Rians Christmas party at her gymnastics and Jameson had a freaking blast!!! All the big girls to play with and run around with. Got home and the little man was falling asleep as I was changing his diaper and getting him into PJs.
@megsw85 my plan is to get my hair cut, my eyebrows waxed and a pedicure! I want to feel pretty in labor, esp if I decide to Grace y'all with pics of my face in my real time labor thread .
Also will use the time to sew and wrap Christmas presents before Brantley arrives. If I get all that done and still have time I plan on taking a nap of all naps!
@mcbush - I think this is the time where they test their boundaries. They are starting to know right from wrong and want to see how we'll react. I tell KJ "not nice!" when she does soemthing bad (they say it in daycare) and she gets that it's wrong. I also tell her to pick it up or clean it up when she does something. I also physically make her do something (carry her over to item she won't pick up and use her hands to pick it up) when she says no so she knows I'm the boss. And I do it everywhere no matter where we are. I'm no expert but I've read a few things and am hopeful this will work.
A White Christmas is on. It reminds me of my dad. My dad always said he was so happy he had a girl cause he had someone to watch all the old musical movies with. I can only hope that at least one of my kids love watching all the old movies with me.
My dad was also the only one to take me to the ballet when I was growing up.
So many sick babies!! They all need to get better ASAP.
Tonight we have my H's cousins Christmas party. I am totally not looking forward to it. She goes WAY over the top with everything- so while I know she means well, this will be a total shit show. I will be actively looking for a reason for Nora and I to stay home and skip it all day.
LO has been extra hard to get to sleep lately, at bedtime and naps. I've been getting a little frustrated. Last night's motn wake up lasted over an hour (they used to be 10 minutes). Well this morning, LO woke up and couldn't get to his little table, where his crayons are, fast enough. He picked up the right crayons and yelled urble (purple), back, and bown! We haven't even practiced those colors! He then went around naming every single thing that he knows the name of.
@megsw85 - not that you asked, but I think 4 years old is old enough to spend a few weeks with your grandparents away from your parents. Unless there may be some issues with him being sick or something. It could be a great time for them to bond. I definitely plan to send KJ to visit my mother and some time with my father (they live a few hours apart) for a few weeks during the summer starting when she is that age or younger.
I hope all the sick babies and mommies get better!! We're at the end of his ear infections. I was so glad we took him to the Dr and coughs it before it was bad. He inly had a low grade (99.8ish) temp and a cough and snotty nose. We had to miss the planned family day after Thanksgiving. I'm hoping everyone will stay healthy so we can go to my parents for Christmas.
@megsw85 my sister and I flew cross country unaccompanied when I was 9 and she was 7 to visit aunts and cousins for a month. It's still one of my favorite experiences. I think it totally depends on the kid's maturity level, and I would be nervous about his asthma too.
DH and B are off to the pediatrician again today. His rash spread to his face, and he still hasn't eaten much since Monday. MIL is also sick but still is doing all the chores, etc. so I feel like all the dishes etc are contaminated. She asked me if I wanted her to wash sheets, and I told her I wanted her to go rest. She's listening for now.
Since they haven't deactivated my account yet, I will keep posting.
AWing my son's 2nd trip to see Santa. We went to Bass Pro the 1st time. DS freaked whenhe was placed on Santa's lap. This time we went to a breakfast with Santa. I held him and just walked up to Santa. He was very curious but was clinging tight to me. Santa took the time to speak with DS and then gave him a high 5. It's the best we're going to do today.
KJ went to see Santa yesterday. She would not sit on his lap but she enjoyed him reading to her. There was no line so he took his time trying to get her to warm up to him. He was really sweet. When they wanted to snap a photo and called her name this is the face she made that was actually nice. She actually looked quite annoyed that we were interrupting her story time to take a photo. And he bribed her with a mini candy cane, which she devoured. I normally wouldn't let her have candy but Santa gave it to her so it's okay, right?
Last night was my company's holiday party. DH didn't go with me because he was sick. I don't think he wanted to go anyway. It was fine with me because I had a great time with my coworkers dancing and eating lots of yummy food. I didn't get home until midnight and this morning I was up and at the salon for an 8 AM appointment. Now I'm on my way to a sorority event. And tonight we have a friend's Christmas party to go to. And tomorrow is the J13 GTG. Can't wait for that! It's a busy weekend. What are you all up to this weekend?
Finishing up Christmas shopping here, then BIL's birthday dinner, and then the J13 GTG tomorrow. I was wondering if we should try to meet in one place or something.
WWJ13D: H has a coworker that has two houses. He wants to rent one out and wants to rent it to us. He has lowered the price on rent twice. Now he wants $1400 a month for a 5bed, 2.5bath house with an unfinished basement on 2.88 acres with a deck and a pond on property. There would be a rent to own option. The utilities would be about $100 a month They would want us in by February.
Here's the deal. Our lease isn't up until July. We currently pay $1360, not including utilities.
Would you break the lease and jump on the house or stay in the apartment?
@nikel13 - what's the penalty for breaking your lease? If it is not too insane, I would take the house!
This weekend I'm helping clean out some stuff at my moms to get her house ready to go on the market in the spring and then Christmas party tonight. And then baking tomorrow! And why don't some J13ers move to/visit Cleveland!?!? I want a J13 gtg!
@lioness13, I'm excited about tomorrow too! I'm having a hard time moving today...too much booze last night...
Holiday work party was fun. Lots of food, booze and catching up. A got lots of attention and was very social. She stayed up until 10. But of course she wakes up at 6 and did not go back to sleep. One very tired and hungover mama here....DH is snoring in his recliner...I want to throw things at him.
Re J13 gtg this weekend: I'm on mobile and it's giving me issues so if yall are messaging stuff then I'm sorry I'm not responding. I'll get in a computer tonight to check! Gonna be there though!
I've done 2 - T25 workouts today and reached my 10,000 step goal at 1:30. All I want is a chocolate milkshake and to do nothing else today. O is finally feeling better and his fever is gone at the moment. Hopefully it didn't come back while he's napping. FX!!
I have not read any spam words yet, so I am just going to throw good vibes in all directions right now. I am in a parking lot drinking beer with our two sleeping boys in the back. We have been waiting outside a friends' Christmas party for over an hour in the car for them to get up! DH just went in to use the bathroom. I'm so glad we brought a 6 pack to entertain us. Also my sciatica has been awful te last two days, out of no where. I get super depressed when I start a spell and I'm so short tempered when I'm in chronic pain. I told DH this morning how bad it was, and he got me an early Christmas present- a joint! Ha! I haven't smoked in over 8 years, but I am really hoping it has the medicinal qualities for pain it's supposed to. We have this party and then a late dinner date so I would like to enjoy it!
Kind of skimmed all the words. Hope the sick babies are on the mend!
@WorkinIt I'm so happy the Baileys was a hit! I've been giving it out as holiday gifts too. And the other adults at our little toboggan party last weekend finished almost a whole jar of it.
@megsw85 , @WorkinIt is right. Tr baileys has to be refrigerated. It will keep for a couple months that way, but would spoil if left out. Also, I agree with you. No way I would send a 4yo to NL alone in the summer. Especially with his asthma. But even if that wasn't a factor, I probably wouldn't be ok with it unless maybe you left him there at the end of your visit and then your ILs brought him back to AB a week or two later. Not ok letting a 4 yo fly alone. As far as flights go, I would keep checking. AC and a Westjet both have seat sales all the time, so if you can get your hubby to commit to some dates that will give you the opportunity to jump on a deal when you find one. I sign up for emails from both companies and was able to get a really awesome deal to Ottawa in October. Obviously summer will be more, but with the right deal and if you fly on a weekday I wouldn't be surprised if you could get that $4000 to under $3000.
We are at H's sister's house, about 5 hrs from home, this weekend. Having a little Christmas celebration. I cannot keep up on here at all, but wanted to pop in and say Hi!
We opened gifts today. Our niece and nephew are 7 and 5 now and are getting harder to shop for. I was so happy to see genuine excitement on their faces when they opened all their gifts from us. I'm always so worried that now that we don't see them quite as often I'm starting to get out of touch with what they like. M got a bunch of things, but the only toy she likes is the doll stroller which she has been literally racing around the house while making Vroooom noises, lol.
I'm enjoying a baileys/butterscotch schnapps nostalgia cocktail (one of the few sweet drinks I don't find too cloying and gross anymore).
Today was pretty low-key - I tried to make some Christmas cards with LO but he was NOT into it. Wound up painting himself with the paints we got out. And I thought it was a pain to get him to do handprints last year! No successful paint prints done at all. Boo. Not sure what I'm doing for Christmas cards now ...
GTG tomorrow - yay! And that's all I have planned. Hopefully the Children's Museum tires LO out so he has a good nap tomorrow. While his short nap today meant he went to bed early (which is rather unusual), I'd rather have a nice long nap in the afternoon so I can get more stuff done!
Real conversations at the luru house while watching a Barney episode on shapes.
DH: you know how all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares? Me: Um, yes. (Side eyeing) DH: It's weird because it really only means that both sets of sides are parallel. Me: no words, just a look wondering what the point is. DH: It's just a stupid rule, I wish it didn't exist. They should either be squares or rectangles.
Re: Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells! SPAMing All the Wayyyy!!!

That made me cry!! What an amazing thing for your little guy to do for a stranger. So glad that no one was hurt.

I'm less frustrated about the sleeping now!

This weekend will consist of me crossing my legs and praying this lil man stays put! Also Rians gymnastics competition tom
