Re: So I'm in real labor this time

  • Looks like you'll have your little squishy here for Christmas then!! Hope all continues to go as well as it can, and glad this doctor finally knows what the hell is going on! Thanks for keeping us updated!!

  • NL - how are your contractions now? Still further apart? I hope you're feeling ok!
  • I feel like if I were NL at this point I would just have to laugh at the change in plan because NOTHING has gone as planned for you this pregnancy. I'm so happy to hear that baby is handling labor like a champ, and that you are off Mg, and that you get to eat!! Hopefully it's nothing but smooth sailing from here on out.

Yeah, I've just thrown up my hands and said fuck it. Whatever happens, happens. I just feel a lot better now that Dr. P is in charge of the plan.

The mag basically stopped the contrax. The mag has been turned off for about 2 hours now, and I'm starting to see little peaks starting up again, but nothing dramatic. I'm sure it'll take time. I'm not in a rush, they did my Group B strep swab yesterday and we're still waiting on the results.

  • @southernyankeegirl - I have to ask, did you buy a certain type of Depends? I'm in the market and want to know if certain styles are more "discrete" than others...like on the commercials!

I don't know much about them, but I bought these. They looked like they'd fit like normal grannie panties. I sized up as it looks like it goes over my lower abdomen and I will likely still be quite puffy for a week or so down there!

  • Glad to hear the contractions have stopped!

And sorrynotsorry, but the ice pack built into the pads is THE BEST EVER after delivering.  At least it was with DD1, I wouldn't think DD2 will be much different.

  • How's your niece doing with all this? Is your hubbie able to be at the hospital with you?

Oh, she's fine. She thought coming to the hospital was an adventure. I sent both of them to school and work today, since the contrax stopped overnight and delivery wasn't imminent.

That's good!  Did they let her stay overnight?  My son wants to stay overnight with me, I haven't checked with the hospital to see if they'll let him or not.

    .......

I didn't want them to stay, but I think they would have let her.

  • @southernyankeegirl‌ if I plan to cloth diaper for environmental reasons, is it wrong to get depends? What a conundrum.

@NatureLovers‌ glad everything slowed down and baby has a little more time to grow. I'm unclear if the contractions stopped in the middle of the night or this morning, but either way it sounds like you're in a steady spot now! Thanks for sharing a pic. I always assumed you had dark short curly hair, now I'm thrown for a loop. Good luck over the next few days, hope everything goes smoothly if she decides to make her appearance!

They stopped in the wee hours of the morning. My hair is dark and curly, just long. :) It's straight since my stylist flat ironed it after my color.

  • Fingers crossed that things slow down!  I was 3.5 cm with water bulging when I went in at 27w3d.  They were able to stop my labor and then I was sent to long term bed rest on day 4 (28w).  I would have made it quite a bit further if my water hadn't broken!  Anyway, the magnesium should help but if not, 35w3d is really good for a preemie.  Another mom here had a 34w6d baby who didn't even need the NICU!  Hang in there, mama!

What a whirlwind you've been through! Thinking of you and hoping labor goes well when baby decides she is ready to come out for real. You really are quite the trooper for handling all of this so well!

  • And for you FTM's, here's a shot of the maxi pad next to a 3 inch long pack of gum for scale. That will be your post delivery pad with a built in ice pack, tucked inside those mesh undies we've all heard so much about.

Haha! Oh, something to look forward to! :-) I guess its nice to get visuals for what's to come!

  • I think you can justify Depends for a week as a reasonable non-recyclable product, compared to cloth diapers you'll use for 2+ years.

  • Lots of T&P sent your way!! Sounds like she's a good size if you do have to deliver early, which is great! GL, and thanks for keeping us all updated! :)
  • Good to hear she's so big!
  • Thanks so much for all the support! ;;)

  • The headache could also be from mag :) It's an extremely common symptom and the effects can last near 24 hours after stopping it.

It's possible, but my headache actually got progressively worse throughout the day once the mag was turned off, so I'd be surprised if they were related, but you never know. :)

I was wondering this, too. Lol! I have cloth diapers for the baby, Luna pads for bleeding, but what to do about other stuff? Maybe one of us should invent something!
Just wear cloth adult diapers. Problem solved!
    Is that a thing?
...... I think it's called family cloth. Excuse me while I gag.
Not exactly.  Family cloth is cloth toilet paper.  How that works, I don't know.

  • Holy crap I'm super late in actually posting in this.

For one, I'm sorry you're going through this! It must've been super terrifying, as it happened D: I've been reading and keeping up with the updates, and I'm relieved things seem to be going alright for now
If you do end up delivering, here's hoping it's smooth and effortless, as improbable as that sounds! You certainly deserve it, after such a rough pregnancy.

Hang in there, NL! Finger crossed everything's more or less smooth sailing, and maybe you can go home if you don't start up contractions again!

  • Glad you got some decent rest and there is a solid plan in place!
