SIL just texted MIL and me saying that she and BIL thought it would be nice if everyone wanted to see the new hunger games movie over Thanksgiving break.
1. It comes out on Friday, pretty sure we won't be able to rush and see it.
2. How does she expect this to happen? You don't take a 1.5 year old to see the hunger games and what does she think we will do with her?
They will probably expect to go out to dinner at 8 pm too. They say that when they have kids, their kids will adjust to their schedule not the other way around. They are 29 and 32 and gave been married 8 years and are clearly not ready for kids yet...
Yeah because Hunger Games is totally Kid Friendly...
Well, we did it. Lily is starting DC next week. It'll only be one day, but she really hasn't ever been around kids her age. At least not often enough to be the most awkward turtle at the party. We'll see how it goes, but I just can't with SIL flaking at this point. That, and it's cheaper than SIL. Hopefully Thanksgiving isn't awkward since we technically fired SIL. Is there anything that I should bring to the DC that you guys would recommend? They have food, so no need there, but anything else.
This Body child custody story is really interesting. I can't believe I never heard about it. I have been googling and reading all day (my job is totally okay with this - not) and I have been really annoyed when my DH calls/texts me to talk about the Thanksgiving turkey (because that's not important). I am trying to stop reading but there is just so much out there and this story is just awful. That little boy is obviously loved but I feel bad that they had to go through all this. My head is still spinning from all the drama.
PS - Would you continue to date a guy that told you on your 2nd date that his ex was pregnant? I wouldn't! (insert oprah shaking head gif from above)
I'm not surprised she got banned. She created an account just to fish around. I don't think we would have been any kinder if someone randomly showed up bashing a reg and asking for info on them. I do feel bad for her, but I don't fault M15. I think its good that thread was shut down before it got nastier (If what the M15 poster said is true, the custody case is over and she probably should have just let it go.)

What happened? Why did you fire your SIL? Did you post about this?
At daycare I left 2 outfits as backups and diaper rash cream. I bring a big box of diapers and wipes and just bring more every other week or so.That's it.
A few girlfriends are getting together on Saturday. I had originally declined the invitation since DH's parents will be in town, but today I decided I really do need the break so I asked MIL if they are ok watching M for the afternoon while I go (DH is probably going to be working, as per usual). Of course she said yes, they are excited to get some alone time with M. I'm so pumped! We are going to make cabbage rolls, salsa and homemade Baileys. And if we have time some homemade laundry soap too. Yes, we are kind of dorks, but I think it will be so fun!
@nikel13 I would add maybe a blanket and sippy cup? Also when DD was just starting the teacher asked me to bring in a family picture for her classroom to help her adjust.
Oh, I forgot about the sippy cup. I had to bring one of those to daycare too. They didn't give you a list @nikel3?
That sounds like fun @daffy2k! Take advantage of the inlaws being in town!
I totally plan on it! They are really awesome and know how much Tyson's been working lately so I know they were really hoping to give us a break while they're up. Who knows? Maybe we'll get out one night just the two of us and catch a movie too...

It's really sad. One of the more obnoxious things is that each side insists on calling the poor kid a different name. WTF is that about. His mother named him a normal sounding name, just use it. FFS.

Whenever stuff involving kids gets dramatic I always feel terrible for the wee ones. You don't get to pick your parents. And yeah it's not like she named him something weird like Arlo
@lioness13 No, they haven't really given us a list beyond we provide diapers and wipes. We actually had to "fire" SIL because she was flaking on us. I had to take off a day last week, which we paid her $80 a day for a day or two a week, because she went out of town all week long. She gave me a week to find someone else, but the ILs were going as well, leaving us with nothing. She and H then got into a bit because he was trying to switch his schedule a bit to work around her schooling and she got pissy because we needed her Monday and she had a hair appointment. She ended up changing the appt, but it was kind of silly, all of it. We decided that it was not worth all of the round and round we were getting and the unreliability.
People tell me I'm a relaxed first time mom. I should just take the compliment right? And not turn it into some weird negative. Hear that brain? It's a compliment.
I get this all the time too @steamboat123 . I sometimes wonder if they think I don't care enough... I'm pretty sure it's a compliment though. Some of my mom's friends have said it with other people around in a braggy type of way, so I think they are actually impressed, not just thinking I'm lazy.
I got a really sweet Kate Spade locket free with purchase, would it be tacky to give it to my MIL for Christmas and have that be her only gift? Well, she would get a picture calendar too...
The question is does she shop at Kate Spade too @WasNotWas ? If there's a chance she would know it was free I probably wouldn't. But if she won't and you think she would like it the I say go for it.
@calikat80 thanks for asking. We are in Hamburg and we got slammed. The snow is at least 4 feet high. They haven't plowed our road and they don't expect to until the weekend since we are expecting 3 more fee starting tonight.
@daffy2k my whole family is in north buffalo or slightly north of the city so it didn't really hit them. It was mostly south buffalo and the southtowns and since my family isn't of Polish descent (Buffalo ethnic hoods run strong!) none of them live there. Thanks for asking!
@majwv8 can you get one of those long slide locks that can go around both knobs and tighten? We have that one a few double doors. That or drill small eye hook and loop at the top.
We are used to it here and it usually doesn't paralyze us like it has this time. It's just a massive amount that fell at one time. Our neighborhood is right on Lake Erie so we got big snow drifts from strong wind. The one picture shows my neighborhood. I took it when I walked to the main road dragging a sled. The main road was plowed and my brother in law met me at the end of the street so I could go pick up some more gas for our snowblower. It is truly insane and it's snowing like crazy again.
Truthfully @ilovemarfa I totally miss those days. Sledding and day drinking, maybe starting a fire, an excuse to let the kids drink hot chocolate at 9am because they've already been playing in the snow for 2 hours. Makes me homesick! Buffalonians are always pretty well prepared for this so it's not like Katrina or something, it's just a snowy wonderland. Stay safe and have fun!

There's only one knob.. :-/
We keep the dog food in there and she started feeding the dog. It was cute for a couple days, now she wants to continuously feed him and there's food everywhere..
I would definitely drill a little hole at the top of each door by the center and install an eye loop on one and a hook on the other. We bought those in bulk because of G
It's not two doors, but a bifold accoridan. Hook and eye might work or the thing mcbush just posted.
Oh, hmmm, then a hook and eye at the end it opens and the wall? I'm not sure I understand a bifold accordian, but I am almost certain a hook and eye is the best way to go. And usually the cheapest. We actually installed eyes on the wall behind some of our harder pieces of furniture and then used a cable tie (drilled holes in the back of the piece of furniture) to secure pieces to the wall. I'm not kidding about buying those puppies in bulk, you can use them to solve most childproofing problems!
