@ladythrice- I figured you've been gone with the new WoW expansion and I agree with PPs, make both! But I do have a special place in my heart for Texas sheet cake, mmmm.
Speaking of people being gone- has summersunshine (I forget which numbers at the end) posted that anyone has seen? I know she was having lots of complications a couple weeks ago. Hope she's ok.
@rshamos, thanks so much--I have an ultrasound scheduled for Friday, and I'm going to try to stay out of my head until then. The doctor presented it as she would feel better if I had the extra sonogram, so I'm going to take her at face value that it's nothing to be concerned about at this point.
In the interest of making myself feel better, I have continued to eat all the things--I'm really craving burritos and chocolate cake now after all these posts! My freezer is very small, but I could probably fit at least two casseroles in there if I were to clear out (read: eat) all the ice cream.
Last night we were reading in bed and DH suddenly exclaimed, "Ugh, ugh, GROSS! Ugh!" He was reading about newborn care in the Baby 411 book and reacted to a section about how you should never wipe from back to front if you have a daughter. "Who does that?? Why would you ever do that anyway?" A little background, this is a fairly OCD person who I only have convinced to leave the house without showering in the morning once in ten years. I could not stop laughing, it was priceless.
We're going to a breastfeeding/newborn care class tonight, and I can't wait.

GUILTY! lol. I'm a slow player though and its killing DH. He just wants to be 100 already. I'm ALMOST 95 and so proud .
@Summersunshine916 has been pretty active on the FB group! She's still got complications but doing well!

Oh geez I've barely even begun! It would help if DH would play with me, he used to but it's just not his thing.
Glad to hear she's doing well! Out of the loop because of FB, dangit.
I hate when ppl post answers from web md, dr google, subscription messages from the bump and what to expect when expecting and pretend as if its knowledge they alone have when in actuality most of us have googled this or receive the same subscription emails and have read the exact response they posted.. Corny.
Just point the person to the same place you got the answer, you don't get brownie points for being able to copy paste.
@Braincellsup, have fun! I actually enjoyed our newborn care class even though lots of people in RL thought it was silly that we went. If your class doesn't cover this, I recommend asking about soothing techniques for crying newborns. We got introduced to Dr. Karp's 5 Ss. It was extremely enlightening!
Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure to ask if they don't cover it! I know that it may seem silly to some, but then again they may not fully understand the depths of our not-knowing-anything-ness.
ETA: by 'our' I meant mine and DH's ignorance, not yours!

I am so excited for Thanksgiving, I can barely stand it! I want turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie in my mouth NOW.
I have decided that since I'll no longer be GD I am going to eat an entire f'ing pie. The whole thing, just for me. And sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes and corn and fruit and gravy.
I might be looking more forward to the carb overload than anything else, including wine.
I just went to a breastfeeding class at my local WIC office, I've breastfed before but thought a class is always a good thing.... I was the only person that registered... I'm really not that suprised breastfeeding in my area is something you don't do. Left with lots of freebies!
I'm thinking about getting my Martha on and making a home made apple pie from scratch.
We're having turkey sandwiches and twice baked potatoes. It's just me and H and our 3 year old that hates food. I can't justify making a whole turkey.
You could always make it and freeze it.

We did enjoy learning to swaddle, and have contemplated trying it out on the crib cat. We figure if we can get her swaddled (with the claws and fangs), we should be able to swaddle an infant.
First thing when I'm getting home I'm trying this out (could you imagine?!) I considered trying to use our cat for car seat practice, but didn't want to get hair everywhere (also she would have considered it her new throne--that's why we're keeping it in the car instead of in the apartment).

So many posts you miss in just one day.. I just caught up on all 118 that I missed but tired myself out, so it's nap time now. I'll try my best to remember what I read:
-i've ripped a hole in 3 different pairs of yogas/leggings now, still wear them because nothing else fits
-my cat is a cuddle monster so I may have been in labor for the past 4 months

@Chelseavranich, the BEST apple recipe I have EVER made is Grandma Opel's Apple Pie. I get compliments on it EVERY TIME I make it. [My cheats: I use refrigerated pillsbury dough crust, I DON'T peel the apples, and I cut the apples into chunks instead of slices.]
Years ago I had a co-worker tell me that I needed to make that pie for the man I wanted to marry because as soon as he ate it he'd propose. [My DH doesn't even like apple pie... wtf is wrong with the man???]
ETA: PICTURE. [I always make the cross pattern on top too.]
Oh god, I want that pie in my belly RIGHT NOW.
Apple pie is my favorite and that one looks amazing!

Have you thought about just cooking a turkey breast? They sell them frozen next to the big turkeys. I make Thanksgiving in July for MH and I and usually just do that.

Or, you know, you can just send some to me. I love twice baked potatoes.
Please and thank you.
@MissChristineMarie Have you ever tried twice baked potatoes in the slow cooker? It's better than sex.
I'm going to be making gluten-free pie crust for the first time this year. Do any of you GF ladies have a good recipe? I'm thinking of taking my normal one and just subbing in GF flour, but I didn't know if there were any changes I needed to make other than that.
And yes, planning to also Google, but recommendations are always welcome.

My MIL did a great nut based one. I think it was a walnut or almond wit a combination of the nut chunks and flour. It was great with pumpkin.
@misskilljoy@bvsbabymomma@marsavary Your pregnancy unicorn has taken a fall from grace and is currently (and probably for the next 6 weeks) whiney and uncomfortable.

@CandEChicago Two years ago we did a paleo TG at my parents' house, and I did a pumpkin pie with almond and pecan crust. It was really good, and I thought about just doing that again. But since we're having people over who aren't GF/paleo, I wanted to have a crust this year that was closer to "normal". Plus, I'm worried that a nut crust for a pecan pie might be a little overkill on the nuttiness.
@3girlsnthepup I still need to start stalking GFOAS. I keep randomly finding her recipes when I search for stuff online, but I haven't followed her or read through her site yet. Maybe something to start doing for the 3AM feedings?
I looked at that recipe, and I do find it interesting that she uses baking powder in it. Maybe to get a bit more lift to the crust because of no gluten?
@Anna930 Oooh...that sounds really good. I would have never thought of using macaroons as a crust base. Definitely filing that one away.
@bowlwoman - gotta come up with a lot of tricks during Passover when so many foods/food combinations are off the table. I've learned a lot/gotten pretty creative over the years
@Anna930 I grew up in a very Christian fundie town in Missouri, so I was never exposed to any Jewish traditions until a few years ago when I became good friends with a woman who is Conservative. I've had fun figuring out things she can eat and she's invited us to participate in Passover and Hanukkah with her family. It's been fun to experiment.
DD1 has a good friend (her first boy crush in Kindergarten, I suspect) who goes to the same synagogue as my friend, and DD1 keeps asking us about Jewish traditions. I refer her to my friend quite a bit, so who knows if DD1 might convert someday and I'll be making these things for my grandkids.
Speaking of Hanukkah, are you guys pre making your latkes? Last year, I made them and froze them so I could bring them to my inlaws for dinner. They aren't as good as fresh ones, but I think some latkes are better than none.
@rshamos - My husband is the latke maker, so he will be making them fresh. I can't seem to find a way to keep them crispy otherwise.
More important question: What do you top yours with? I always have a couple with applesauce and a couple with sour cream. Can't decide which I love more!
Sour cream and applesauce at the same time!
@chelseavranich they are easy to make, just messy. I pan fry them too. To store them I freeze them in a single layer and then reheat in the oven. I want some now!!
@Anna930 yes! We had latkes AND mashed potatoes at thanksgiving last year. It was amazing! I'm just over two weeks away. Patience is not my virtue, though. I might make some today to "prepare" for Hanukkah. I'll have to taste test them tonight...
I just dropped off a donation at Goodwill. Some older guy pulled in behind me and sat in his car with every intention to make the Goodwill employee get all of his stuff out. There is nothing like a super pregnant woman unloading her own car (with help) to guilt a lazy dude into getting off his butt and unloading his car.
People keep asking me how much longer I have. I just told someone 2 weeks and now I'm freaking out because that is so close. The thought that it really could be any day now I have a baby is overwhelming.
I agree, your mother is a great writer @misskilljoy, and that passage clearly reflects her influence on your own thoughtful style (in both prose and attitude).

Peppa Pig IS so annoying. I've only seen it once because my friend's daughter watches it. I saw a photo of her on facebook the other day throwing a crying fit with the caption "Mad because I told her Dora was over" She isn't even 1 yet!
@Misskilljoy, thanks for sharing that-my thoughts are with your mom.
I've had so many people ask me how much longer I have, and when I say 3 weeks I either get the response "well just remember, it could be more" or "that means any day now!" Either way, I want to punch them. YEAH I KNOW.
More of a TMI Tuesday type thing but: I have been sick for three weeks with a nasty cough/cold. Today, during a big coughing fit, my skin next to my belly button piercing split open with a horrific popping feeling, and I peed myself. Between the blood and the pee I had to change my whole outfit.
I told MH that this baby is literally bursting through my abdomen like that thing in the alien movie. Now, I have to hold my belly really tighly when I cough or it feels like someone is pressing a lit cigarette to my belly button.
Re: Hodor 2.0!!!
@ladythrice - you are asking silly questions. There is no such things as too much dessert.
