I have 3 weeks before they will induce me. Hoping I go into labor on my own before then but I look forward to hearing how it goes for you as I might have to do the stripping as well.
Hi ladies! Sorry I've been MIA these last few days. My dad had a stroke and was hospitalized over the weekend. He's being operated this morning so if you can spare any prayers and positive thoughts please send them his way.
As for the GD, it seems like we've all sti got our struggles with it! I've only got 2 weeks left and it seems to have been pretty stable the last few weeks as long as I don't make any drastic diet changes.. I had an appt with my doctor yesterday and she mentioned stripping my membranes to help possibly move labor along and avoid being induced if it comes to that. I told her id have to read up on it and research but there doesn't seem to be much evidence it actually helps. Any thoughts on the process?
So sorry about your Dad. Sending thoughts and prayers!!!
Has anyone here told their OB no to being induced? Mine informed me today that he, "wouldn't let me go past 40 weeks". Ultrasound at 32 weeks showed baby was in the 56th percentile for size, amniotic fluid good, everything normal, etc., etc.
I'm only 34 weeks now, so I have some time to figure out what I'll say, but I'm not okay with being induced just because it's standard procedure. If there's nothing wrong with the baby, and my placenta is still functioning well, I see no need to induce and increase the likelihood of further intervention.
I had such a hippy granola birth planned before all of this GD crap, and this is my last straw that I'm clinging to. No unnecessary interventions.
Anyway, does anyone have any experiences to share?
Just having gd is not a reason to induce. I would ask him what his medical reason was for induction and go from the. Even my crunchy midwives are going to want the baby here by 41 weeks, though.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
Has anyone else realized that they've started cheating a bit more as their due date approaches? I'm not going to town and wolfing down an entire box of doughnuts (even though it's staring me in the face every time I go in the kitchen... >.>), but when I do splurge I'm also not cutting the doughnut in half like I used to. :P My glucose readings have been mostly okay except for a few days after dinner where I wasn't feeling very well and was high, so I see no reason to stop my little "rebellion", lol.

I'm definitely cheating a bit more. My readings are still MOSTLY in range, but a few nights after dinner especially I've been over (not a lot). I'm also having a small amount of ice cream between dinner and bed time snack most nights, which does not put me over.

I just got home from the endocrinologist's office and he wants me to start doing fast-acting insulin before breakfast and dinner in addition to the Humulin I inject before bed. More insulin to buy and more shots! Yaaaay. I felt so sorry for myself I got a donut and ate it in the car on my way home instead of getting salad for lunch like I planned. I kind of feel bad, but I'm also kind of over it. Eff you, GD.
Had my final Endo appointment before delivery today, my next one is 6 weeks after birth. My night time and morning Lantus insulin was increased, but my meal time Humalog insulin was decreased slightly because I'm having a lot more lows. They did tell me that within 24 hours of delivery, I shouldn't need meal time insulin anymore and will probably need a small dose of Lantus once a day to keep the Diabetes under control. Can't. Wait. The best part was that instead of calling in a new prescription for the next month of insulin, they gave me samples to last for 2 months. Just saved $200.
I feel like I'm cheating more, but since my readings after have been in range I don't think it counts as a cheat. It's just that I have discovered more foods that are ok that I would have expected to not be ok... like a cadbury cream egg for lunch dessert.
I'm going to have to keep this in mind, because my favorite part of Easter is Cadbury Creme Eggs. I keep telling DH I want to get a buttload of them and freeze them for after LO's born, but they probably don't even need to be frozen. It's only a month, they'll be fine!
=P~

Yep I've totally been cheating the past week and finally am paying for it. Ate 2 pieces of pizza with really thick crust and was 173 an hr after dinner. Whoops. Still 149 2 hrs later. Yikes
I also had my last endo appt this week! I have a follow up 6 weeks after delivery. I've definitely been cheating a little more especially on the days I don't test. Everything's been under control so far and my fasting numbers have been good so I feel less bad.. Do you ladies plan on continuing this diet afterwards (not to this extreme though) to help you get back to you?
Id like to. I know I'm going to fall off the wagon at least for a week or two, though. I've barely gained any weight in the 8-10 weeks since I got diagnosed, so it must be good for something!
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
@SoulTermination I've been cheating like it's nobody's business. We're talking double bacon cheeseburgers from Five Guys with their mountains of fries. I've never gotten a high reading after a meal though, so game on.
Also, my fasting BG (which is my problem) is really stable regardless of what I eat, whether or not I take insulin, whether or not I exercise, so I'm pretty fed up with the whole GD racket.

The GD diet is pretty much how i eat non-pregnant, so yeah, I'll continue with it.

Me too. Don't feel bad.
At my last appointment my OB told me she didn't want me to gain much more weight, yet the nutritionist put me on a 2400 cal meal plan. How am I supposed to not gain weight eating that much? I exercise, but it's not like I'm running 10 miles a day.
But, I figured that even if I gained a pound a week I'd still only gain 5 more pounds which isn't that much in the long run.
I am also still gaining, with no signs of slowing down. 5 more pounds and i hit the 200 mark (I started at 130) i eat really healthy too so i don't really understand why. It will be a lot of work after baby is here but she is worth it.
Last night was my first high reading in awhile. It was 132 2 hrs after eating Parmesan crusted fish and sweet potatoes. I did pig out on green beans but I didn't really measure out my sweet potatoes. Hubby has been out of town a lot and I'm over cooking for my son and I so I've been getting lazy.
I haven't gained any weight since starting this diet but I am within 5 lbs of my weight when I had my son. I started out heavier due to a loss just before I got pregnant again but I'm only up 17 lbs from day 1.
I want a gigantic cupcake in 22 days which is my planned induction day.
Speaking of cheating, I just had a huge plate of butter chicken and naan bread. I've been craving it like crazy!! I'm hoping the trip to the grocery store will help keep my levels in check..
Me too. Don't feel bad.

You'll be surprised how much and how fast you'll lose immediately following delivery.

This morning I saw I actually lost a couple pounds... I'm guessing water weight because my toes were less sausagey. But overall, still going up and I figure that is ok. I'll just wait til baby is here and then worry about weight.

Oh that sounds soooo good! We have an awesome Indian restaurant near us, but I can't eat there anymore. Had a weird food allergy the past few times (I don't eat seafood, but my mom and grandma are both allergic to shellfish, so maybe they cook with it or in the same pan?).
Anyway, I had a Krispy Kreme donut for my morning snack (along with a cheese stick). I've had them for breakfast with cottage cheese and my numbers have always been in the mid-80s, so if my body can deal with it, I'm going to enjoy it.
I've been having really low "lows," like in the 40's and 50's and when that happens, I need something quick. Starburst sour jelly beans are the current winner. SO good!
I know this has been said before, but I am so OVER GD! Yesterday my numbers stayed in the 90's and today has been in the 80's. I even had 2 grilled cheese sandwiches and corn/ potato chowder soup with crackers. I know the numbers are fine, but after meals they are usually a little higher. I am just getting frustrated like everyone else. I just want to eat what I want to again.
I will also add I am on 1.25 mg of glyburide at dinner. This is only half a dose to help with fasting numbers.
"I just want to eat what I want to" I hear that. I just want to eat what I want, when I want, without having to think so hard about it!! Almost there!!
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
Does anyone know if pain, etc will raise your numbers? Last night I was having severe lower abdominal cramping and after dinner (with an insulin shot) my numbers were 148 (1 hr), 146 (2 hr), and 142 (3 hr). I have never seen it stay so high/steady over such a long time. I'm guessing it was related to how crappy I've been feeling?
So tired of obsessing about glucose numbers while I'm in the midst of "OMGZ am I in preterm labor??!" obsessing. Ugh.
@rockstarlaw - thanks! My GD diagnosis only came about two weeks ago and I have had so little experience with figuring out all these blood sugar variables. My endocrinologist is out of the office until Monday, otherwise I'd call him. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but it's good to hear stress and illness can cause an increase. I'm going to try to not worry about it so much and chalk it up to that. I was just so shocked to see those numbers! Especially after an insulin shot. What the heck, body?!
I'm giving birth at a birth center where they encourage us to eat and drink during labor. I'm trying to pack some snacks but don't know if I should do GD friendly snacks or bring whatever might give me quick energy. I'm worried about LO having low blood sugar at birth. I asked my midwife last night about it but she didn't really have an answer. Any suggestions?
I hate the NST. For some reason listening to her heartbeat for that long starts giving me serious anxiety. My doctor says she looks like a "healthy, active kid" but watching the heart rate jump up and down like that kind of freaks me out. I had her turn down the volume last time.
I had a 35 week ultrasound last week and was 6lbs 4oz which the doc said was average/45% but that doesn't sound right to me. I'll see what the mw says about it.
I asked the mw about labor snacks, particularly drink since they recommend "something other than water" in the hand outs. She said you do want to be careful about not getting your sugar wacked because it can impact baby after birth. She said they have glucose tabs they can give me for quick sugar if I need it, and those are better because it's a known and controlled amount.
I'm going to pack normal gd snacks including some stuff like trail mix. Honestly I don't think I ate much during my last labor, though, so I'm packing more for after.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
Same as Melody for me too.. They may hook me up to IV to make sure my blood sugar levels are maintained throughout active labor. I bought some G2 which has A LOT less sugar then regular Gatorade. I also brought some nuts and some granola bars that are high in protein but low in carbs. I also met with the high risk clinic today and they advised they'll let me at least go to my due date before inducing. So I have two weeks and if she doesn't decide to come out before than, I'll be induced at 40 weeks which is fine with me!
