I definitely understand. I am very Type-A and also have trouble relaxing. I also have to plan everything, and if I don't know what to expect, it really stresses me out.
DH and MIL are so wishy washy about her plans while she is in the area for the next three weeks, and I just want to know what nights she is staying with us so I can prepare. I have also been asking DH for weeks if we are going to have dinner with his mom every night so we could plan - and he didn't answer till this morning that yes, in fact, we are having her over for dinner every night this week. So now guess who gets to plan meals and go to the grocery store after work...
I've felt the most stress I've had this entire pregnancy this morning, and I'm concerned about the affects of it on my overall pregnancy, including the GD.
I don't want to be rude, but I also think it's rude (DH and MIL) expecting someone this pregnant to play hostess for that long.

Yeah, not cool!!! Can you eat out or get take out a few times? Lots of crockpot meals? That would make me flip out. I hate that my MIL is so dependent and clingy when she visits.
My numbers have been in the 90s since DH left for the weekend and then again this morning after a brutal night of contractions. Hoping I can chill and have some lower numbers this week!
BFP#1 9/14/10 (EDD 5/21/11); no fetal pole 6w6d, 7w4d, d&c 10/8 BFP#2 3/16/11, beta 138; 4/12 Baby/HB DS born 9/10/11 at 29w4d due to partial abruption and PTL BFP#3 8/19/13 Another boy! 17P, modified bedrest and Nifedipine helped us have a termie! DS2 born 4/19/14 at 38w5d.
Yeah, we are definitely going to go out/get take out a few times, but even though I've been very fortunate with my 2 hour testing numbers, I really don't want to push it. It's a lot easier to have a balanced meal at home than out.
I think DH is going to do a lot of grilling, and I think I am going to send them out to eat one night without me. When I get home, I just want to change into my pajamas and sit my exhausted butt on the couch. Now, after dinner I am just going to excuse myself, go into the bedroom, shut the door and watch TV. I am mad about not getting to veg out on my spot on the couch (Starting to feel like Sheldon Cooper on BBT).
It would probably be rude to suggest special mother-son time every night to DH, right?
In all seriousness, thank you all for letting me vent. I was having a hormonal meltdown this morning, and I am finally starting to feel a little more calm about everything.
I totally agree. It is probably the stress. And don't feel bad about being "too tired" to cook or entertain. You may need a bath and a book more than one night!

Ugh... that's probably what I would do. Dealing with feeding other people with the GD diet is definitely stressful. My MIL makes me have hormonal meltdowns on a decently regular basis. I've told DH she's not allowed to visit until baby is out and we've established a routine/breastfeeding. Happy to listen anytime, because I totally get it!

DH was sitting here in bed next to me scarfing down cookie dough ice cream. Meanie. (
Have you had any luck with frozen yogurt? I have had it three times as a bedtime snack and those are the only three days I passed my fasting number the next day!
Hmmm, I haven't tried it, actually. I should, maybe I'll add some in while I'm experimenting with what I can eat again. x.x
Had the same breakfast this morning as I had three times last week, except today my reading was 155. Yay, hormones, time to figure out what I can eat again! *facedesk* It was going so well, too, lol.

FYI new favorite alternative to chips...baked pepperoni. It's crunchy and salty and works great for dips but also tasty on its own
Do you buy this somewhere or do you baked them yourself? I need details!
I just buy regular pepperoni or the big sandwich sized pepperoni from the deli and put them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with foil and bake for 10-15 min at 350 until crisp. I lay them on a paper towel after to soak up some of the grease.
Umm the baked pepperoni sounds delicious! I'm super pumped bc I just met with one of the people in charge at l and d at my hospital to see if we are good candidates for water birth and found out we don't even need to worry about the heel stick for baby for blood sugar since I am considered borderline and not actually diagnosed with GD. I guess they jus monitor baby and if baby shows any signs of low blood sugar like shakiness they would do it. Also they encourage breast feeding first and if that doesn't raise the blood sugar enough they have a breast milk bank. Plus I found out they are changing over to where we get to stay in our rooms we deliver in. So excited!
I came across this article that does a good job laying out the research on when to treat and how. I'm not explaining that well. Anyway, I thought it was interesting in light of all the talk about conflicting policies and opinions.

Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
I did my first NST yesterday at 35 weeks. My doctor only referred me last week and the nurses at the high risk clinic were shocked I had been on insulin since January and was only starting NST"s now. Way to worry a patient! Anyways, it went well and the doctor I met yesterday did not seem too concerned so I felt better. I am starting them once a week along with my weekly doctor's appointments and diabetes check ups. Thank goodness I have sick days at work because the hours just keep adding up!
I had half of a meat calzone with the crust part cut off and was at 112 an hour later. It really satisfied my need for pizza! Beware though - I ate the other half with the crust on and was at 140. Whoopsy.
Had my first growth ultrasound today (I'm 35 weeks even). He's measuring ahead about the same amount as always, just over two weeks. Her estimates put him at 6lbs11oz, which lands him in the 77th percentile. Heart rate, breathing practice and all that looks good, but we have to go to MFM for a more in depth u/s because his right kidney is dilated. My first son had it with both kidneys, so I'm not overly worried, but it's just one more thing to think about.

Is the kidney thing an issue that usually resolves by itself?

In some cases it does, for my first son, both kidneys were dilated up until delivery. He promptly peed everywhere once they pulled him out. I'm not sure what it will mean for this one, as it is only one kidney. I don't know if it indicates more of a problem or not. Sometimes you can need surgery or at the very least a consult with a pediatric urologist. My first son has been fine and hasn't had any issues, so I'm hoping for the same result this time.

@sweetmelissa0707 - glad your growth ultrasound went well for the most part. I hope your follow up for the kidney issue shows it's nothing serious and it resolves itself.
I'll pray the same for you! My LO had some fluid build up in both kidneys, one has completely cleared, and one is 90% resolved. The doctor doesn't seem at all concerned about it. Edited to take out all the previous quotes!

Awesome! I will be trying these soon! No doubt my husband will enjoy these as well
I have been able to do pasta if I do a meat sauce and add some fresh ricotta at the end, that said though I only test twice a day so my guidelines a bit less strict.
NST today went well. Had quite a few high readings last week, so my medication is being increased. I'm SO frustrated that I'm eating the same yet having higher readings. Guess that's just the nature of the beast. The next 4 weeks cannot go by fast enough.
My little girl has the same kidney problem. My follow up is in 2 weeks. I'm anxious to see how her growth has been because my son was born in the 30 percentile and she has measured in the 80 percentile.

Hope your follow up goes well. My DD didn't have any issues, just my sons, so who knows? I'm still waiting for them to call me for my MFM appointment.

So I had a regular check up today and when the ob asked about my blood sugars, I replied "They are perfectly fine, and that nurse is a little wacky."
This was the nurse who said "We've long suspected that something - besides sugar - contributes to GD, but we don't know what else to test for - so don't eat sugar" when I was trying to figure out why she said I couldn't have any sugar, even when my numbers were perfectly fine.
I go to a high-volume practice, so the docs are usually in and out, but this one actually sat down and listened to the story. He also said he had no idea what she was talking about, and that I shouldn't stress about it. He said as long as my blood sugars stayed within range on average, my fasting numbers were fine, and the baby was on track (all of which he said were), then I can continue to have my sugars mixed in.
Thank you to my new favorite doctor! (I actually wasn't stressing, but it was nice to hear reinforcement of my own opinion from someone in the medical field).
@Rrrrrachel - I have half of a grilled chicken breast, a small salad and less than a cup of leftover mushroom risotto (proteins, carbs, veggies, fat - but no fruit). My wacky GD nutrition advisor said no milk/yogurt until the afternoon snack or dinner. Ummm... LO needs his calcium.
My nutritionist also said healthy women can usually have up to 150 calories from sugar a day without negative effects. She said that when I asked if it was ok to have a little sugar in my tea.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
Oh man I had some mushroom risotto last night and it was sooooo good. Technically it put me two points over but I think I didn't have enough protein with it (the fish I made to go with turned out NASTY) so I'm having it again tonight.

I've been doing good with risotto (which is great b/c my crazy DH ordered a freaking huge bag off of Amazon a while ago) and very surprisingly with mashed potatoes.
I've had surprisingly good luck with sweet potatoes. I cut them up, toss them in olive oil, and sprinkle them with salt, pepper, and a smidge of cajun seasoning and then bake them like fries. Yummm.

oh man I would love to have mushroom risotto but I would want to eat a whole pot of it not just as a side dish
