soooo I accidentally washed my hemp inserts with my microfiber inserts before they were fully prepped (microfiber fully prepped, hemp only washed maybe 3-5x) did I just ruin them? or is it ok to wash microfiber and hemp together now since they were already washed a few times separately?

@stephross88 I think after 3-5 washes, the oils are probably gone from the hemp. You are good to go with comingled washing
I've bought some used ones on a facebook swap page and they were in good condition but I've heard some people get some bad ones so I think you just need to be careful. Also for used ones do I need to bleach them. If so how much bleach would I use. Does bleach ruin the diaper designs? I don't usual use bleach so I don't want to mess it up. I have 6 used diapers to wash so not a big load. Thanks!
@krptcmschfmkr128 I just wash my planet wise wet bag and pail liner with in my diaper load and tumble dry for a few minutes then line dry the rest of the way. not sure about if covers/pockets need to be prepped but I just washed all mine once and line dried before the first use
So if I didnt realize that the natural materials needed to be prepped separately from the synthetic, do I need to strip the synthetic materials and start over? For some reason I figured that if I washed ALL of the dipes 5x that it would be okay because the oils would break up the same...woops. Didnt find out until after the 3rd wash that they shouldnt be prepped together so any help would be appreciated.
Also, after drying the dipes on a line outside I found out my neighbor does CD as well! Which was quite the surprise But she mentioned being careful with drying them in the sun because it can breakdown the cover material (PUL?). Is that true? I would think that they would get much hotter in the washer, but maybe since it's UV rays it makes a difference?
SO glad we have you guys as resources

This. Only true prepping is for natural materials. Covers and pockets should just get a pre-wear wash.
@chickpea912 THey are Gingerbred and Kawaii brand.
If they have a PUL exterior (ie NOT just straight up fabric, but are considered waterproof), you should be able to bleach without worry. If they are handmade with regular fabric you run the risk off adding/bleaching the color.
1/2 c bleach in a hot rinse you should be fine.

Thanks ladies. I wanted to make sure before I finished my CD wash.
My bamboo blend inserts seem like what your describing, more like a towel. All my MF seem the same so I would guess not MF but obviously can't tell you for sure

This. Microfiber doesn't vary so much from one brand to the next. If I had to guess I would say bamboo or hemp - take a picture and post?
This lady does a fantastic job in reviewing the 23 different types of cloth diapers she has, and it helped me decide which ones I'm gonna try out. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was still deciding.
(If this link has already been posted, I apologize. I really didn't want to wade through 13 pages of discussion... though there is probably a lot of good info and i should look through it at some point lol)
For AI2's why can't I just use a BG 4.0 and lay a prefold on insert on top? Why do you have to buy an AI2 diaper specificallly?
@MrsRahl You can do whatever you want. If you want to buy a (more expensive) BG 4.0 and use it however you want, go for it. Or you can buy a less expensive Flip cover and do what you're suggesting here. The 4.0 is built to be a pocket diaper. it doesn't have flaps or tabs to help hold an insert in place, so you might want something that does that job.
But you can do whatever you want with whatever diaper you have.
@chickpea912 I only asked about 4.0 because I already have so many as gifts and was wondering if I could just use those the same way as the flip but now I realize the flip you can just wipe out if stuff gets outside of the pre fold or insert. I just wasn't sure if buying the flip would be worth it if the 4.0 would work the same way but tweaked a little.
@MrsRahl Are you not wanting to stuff the pockets? Or are you hoping to get more use out of each cover? Because you're right - you likely wouldn't want to reuse each 4.0 shell the way you're asking because the pocket lining will get wet/dirty/whatever.
I get to go to the diaper store today!!! We have three gift cards and two checks and I have my list of what we already have ready...I plan to go in and have them tell me what I'm missing . Soooo excited!
ETA: We're all set!! Now to prep and organize the drawer in the nursery and we'll be all set . Tomorrow DH and his plumber father are going to put the sprayer on the toilet...and then C will no doubt douse the bathroom with water shortly thereafter!
@chickpea912 I plan on using the 4.0s as pockets, just someone mentioned using flips over pockets while out so you don't have to lug around thick 4.0s verses a shell and just multiple inserts and in my mind I thought why are people even buying flips if the 4.0 can do the same thing. Now I realize flips are just straight shells with no cloth inside which I didn't realize before. I've never seen a flip in person and most of the websites just show the outsides of the diapers which they all look the same. I realize they're all different but having a visual is easier to understand

Gotcha. For what it's worth, I don't think a stuffed 4.0 is all that thick. All in twos can be easy, but as with all things, there are pluses and minuses. Try them all, see what works for you!
@chickpea912 and any other cloth mamas, do you know of any cloth diapers that would fit my preemie? I tried putting her into the x-small gpants for newborns but she is just swallowed up in them. Any recommendations are appreciated!

I know there are preemie prefolds but not sure which cover would fit best
@stephpaez, I know that Prorap classic covers and Imse Vimse organic cotton covers both come in preemie size. Also, Happy Heinys has an AIO series called Micro-Mini Stages that is designed for preemies. I have no idea how these compare to the gpants you've tried though.

I looked into the Hapy Heinys micro minis, adorable BTW and I am going to order a few of those to see if I like the fit. Those are small enough since the smallest, stage 1, is for 1-3lbs and then go up in small increments.
Ok gurus.... I bought this to store the dirty CDs in (with a pail liner). It's kinda big, but I was thinking since there's holes it's good because it's ventilated? What say you?

I don't know if the holes will matter since you'll have a pail liner in? I would still probably leave the lid off
Sorry if this is a repeat but this thread is huge now.
Safe diaper diaper rash treatments with CD? I know Desitin and such are a no-no. I thought I had seen coconut oil listed as ok. But any others natural or otherwise? Or can I assume if it's CD friendly, it will say it on the package?
Just wanted to tell all the other CD mommas that we successfully used our stash fully today! I only bought six (blueberry newborn simplex) so that I could be sure they worked and that I didn't mind using them. They fit Max really well! No leaks, but he did have a major blow out in a disposable today that DH had the pleasure of dealing with so hopefully that will help my argument of why we should buy more! Squee! Who knew diapers could make me so happy! Thanks for all of the knowledge on this thread. While I didn't really participate, I definitely got some great tips!
Yay, @MommyP710 !! I'm also really loving our newborn simplexes. I used mainly fitteds with M, but I'm really leaning towards my AIOs right now. Might need to get more.

Yea.. I might just order some more if they continue to do well for us the next couple of days. They are available on Amazon for the same price as I bought them at the CD store. We do still have quite a bit of disposables left, but DH's cousin is having a baby so I could always regift them...
Question for you. I am using the bumgenius detergent (present from shower) That's ok, right? They're AIOs, too, so I would think the detergent is interchangeable?

Yep - no problem using it on those. When you finish with it, you can always switch to Tide powder.
Has anyone washed their reusable nursing pads with their cloth diapers?
I washed my nursing pads with my normal laundry but diaper laundry would work too
I ask mainly because the reusable nursing pads are organic like some of my inserts so I figured they would lose absorbency if I washed them with regular laundry? Or maybe I'm thinking about it too much.
My friend is using CDs during the day, but disposables at night because she feels CDs aren't absorbent enough for overnight. Some time with google has made me aware of special overnight CDs. Are these actually better than, for example, using extra inserts in a pocket diaper? And is it desirable to leave a newborn in the same diaper overnight?
