Question regarding living room layouts. Do you think it's a design faux pas to put the back of the sofa toward a decorated fireplace and mantle? There would be space to walk behind the sofa, so it's not like the sofa is backed up against it, but I can't help but think this is a no-no because a fireplace is a focal point and you shouldn't block focal points. But my living room layout is aggravating!
Typically yes, unless it's a floating grouping of seats. As long as there is a solid 3' from back of sofa to front of hearth ledge it's prob fine. Do they have a focal point?

I don't have advice but I am commiserating with you because I hate our living room layout. It is L-shaped with a fireplace in the wall in a corner. It doesn't even face the room. As of now, we don't use our living room because we have a family room but I desperately want an interior decorator/designer to come to my house and give me advice on that room. Is anyone here an interior designer?

@Bailey'sbride good luck today and ((hugs)) for you and anyone else going back to work.
I love it when Finn makes eye contact with me while we nurse. It usually ends up with him pulling off and talking to me only to shove his face into my boob to start nursing again. Rinse and then repeat, I love it.
I love the eye contact as well! I used to be a really shy and self-conscious person (getting better at it, but still not great) and eye contact for me amounted to a whole bunch of "oh god, what are they thinking about me?" brain moments. But with your baby it's just the simplest, sweetest gesture. They're not thinking a damn thing; they're just in love. :x

In the thread about Xmas cards someone mentioned how lame and annoying family newsletters are. I agree. I wanted to share this gem about newsletters because it made me all sorts of stabby.
MIL sent out a "half year" newsletter and I just got it in the mail. In the newsletter she wrote that 2014 has been the worst year of her life. FIL has cancer and their lives have been completely turned upside down. I understand that it's shitty and horrible and makes me so sad and life sucks. But holy shit, this made me start to cry. No mention of DD being born and us coming to visit them 2 states over multiple times just to brighten their weekend. They even came and stayed at our house for 2 effing weeks. Really, my MIL is salty they didn't get to take their vacation to New Zealand and blames FIL who she had to take care of now. I am overthinking this? Should I be mad/annoyed/hurt?
Thanks for reading my lengthy novel of a post. Here's my baby:
That's just obnoxious of her. How hard would it have been to put "it's been a rough year, but I am so incredibly grateful for..."

So DS has been going to a daycare near where I teach. I started him last week and I start my workshops this week. Today I get a bomb dropped on me that my school is moving buildings and will be moving about 20 minutes north. Umm...we start next week?? WTFFFFFFF. Not to mention my daycare was by the old building!! This new one is actually only 10 minutes from my house, but it's also north of my house....so the daycare is 20 minutes from home, and the new school is 20 min from the daycare in the opposite direction. I'm really upset because the lady has been holding our spot since January and DS is always so happy when he goes there. Grrr....DH and I decided to share the drop off/pick up duties (he drops off, I pick up) and we're going to try and make it work. If after a couple months we are going crazy, we will have to switch.
Seriously....who just switches buildings a week before school starts???

My big black dog is the same way. She likes to bake, get in the shade, bake again over and over. She also likes to bake next to campfires and our wood stove. She loves when there is a snow bank right by the front door for rolling/cooling.
Here is how it went. She was eating when she walked in. Nurse: "so she's in breast mi-oh, formula I see. Is there a reason? She should really be getting breast milk." Me: "Well she was exclusive BM for almost 3 months and we just switched. She gets one bottle of BM a day now." Nurse: "You need to give her all breast milk. Formula isn't going to give her all the stuff she needs, like she might get asthma."
Cue a convo about how I was told going longer is better so we are trying to make it so she has one BM bottle a day until 6 months. Got told I was wrong and she's little and needs all my BM now... But then gushes over how healthy she is and now great everything looks. I'm dumbfounded by the whole thing.
@hordol What is the reason they are changing buildings? Do you work at a charter school?
I work for a private school. We are (were?) outgrowing the old building and they have been looking for a new building for a few years now. Nothing was working out. Finally this winter/spring they decided to just renovate our entire school this summer and build an addition. Well, they found out in June or early July that because of the watershed? or something? they can't build the planned addition and would have to go back to the drawing board for next year. Then they decided to rent some buildings instead of buy and they decided all of this last Friday. I shouldn't be too surprised because this isn't the first time they have done something really crazy....but I was not expecting this.

Sounds stressful! My husband is on the St. Paul watershed board so he would understand the reasoning behind why your school can't expand on its current property. Good luck with the move and starting the new school year.

I am the QUEEEEEEEEN of making this child nap today. Seriously. Three naps. Boom bam boom. This never happens and I'm making chocolate chip cookies to celebraaaaaate.
The maintenance guys are supposed to be coming soon to fix a faucet. Hoping it's a fast job because DS fell asleep while eating and I need to pump on the left. Agh.
Also- I'm seriously tired of my MIL bitching about not seeing DS enough then turning me down when I ask her to watch him. Which is it, lady?

Since there was a giant latch on there should be a formula feed off. I'm sure for every woman getting a comment about "letting her titties hang out" there is a woman being shamed for ff.
So true. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess. Why must feeding babies be so dramatic sometimes? Heh.

My mom loves to read very long articles and blogs outloud to us. I hate listening to other people read. I don't care about how Sunday School is ruining churches.

YAAAAAAAAY!
Famous last words..... :P
I was waiting to ETA: Eating crow but she got a good hour in!
A new tv campaign has started here to get pregnant women to quit smoking by talking about how horrible it is to be in the NICU. I know smoking hurts a baby and they could be born prematurely. But the commercials piss me off on behalf of anyone who had a premature baby and did everything right... Also, sick babies just make me sad in general.
Is it the commercial where the mother says to talk into the window of the incubator ? I hate it too
@joytomylifex I would be seriously considering finding a pedi after an appointment like that! Especially since with my first I was FF for my own health. I would be livid if anyone tried to shame me for that choice.
God, what a loss. So sad. I had a major soft spot for Robin Williams. An uncle of mine is his total voice twin and I could never hear one talk without being reminded of the other.

@hordol that seems a little (and by a little I mean a lot) ridiculous!
@joytomylifex what BS! They should support you whether BF or FF!
I have zero ambition at work today. And it's raining, so I would really just like to curl up in some blankets and take a nap. Is it 4:00 EST yet????
