My mother told me tha at 4 months old my twin and I were having 16 oz of cereal in one feeding from bottles. I'm soooo glad we didn't become obese
My mom gave us cereal in a bottle at 3 months!  For me because I was tiny and slow to gain, for my brother because he was a little piggy and she needed more than 30 minutes with him not on the boob.

In other news, six weeks and things are kinda rough.  Little dude is having a lot of gas/trouble pooping.  So much crying here.

When my mom was here she was like you should be giving him bottles of water between nursing right????

    I'm like uhhh nooooo..

She said she and my grandma gave my sister and I at least 5 bottles with water a day..

DH has bronchitis and I am irrationally upset about it right now. I am concerned that he could pass it to the baby but I am more pissed that he can't help me with the baby this weekend. I desperately need a break.
*Hugs* Hope your DH feels better, but sorry you won't be getting a break :(

My MIL gave all four of her children cereal at 1 week and tried to get us to give both of the girls cereal that early. Uhm, No thanks.

Ha! My mom asked about bottles of water and rice cereal too. She's like "I guess a lot changes in 30 years!" Yep!

My SIL gave her son cereal at 4 weeks because she wanted to sleep 12 hours at night. She was shocked I was ok waking up every 3 hours to feed.

Thanks @baileymama3‌. That's exactly how I feel. I'm still upset that she smiles for DH daily and all she seems to do with me is cry. But I'm working on it. And it was nice to feel like she just wanted to snuggle last night.

For me breastfeeding is causing a lot of the disconnect. I've been pumping and gave her a bottle twice this weekend and it's been a lot less stressful for me so I may start doing that more often.

Eta: @mamrotu73‌ if the cat wasn't such a witch I would thought about saving her first as well...
  • We got cereal really early too. I'm just blown away at how much we were eating in one feeding. She's actively trying to get me to give Dylan cereal and I'm like "NO MOM". She came over today with gerber oatmeal. She won't give up. Thank god I'm strong enough to stand my ground with her. Oh she also never burped us. She just put us to sleep on out stomachs after feeding. I can see I won't be leaving my kid with her for long stretches until he's a toddler.
  • Both sets of parents asked about water too! I'm like..no, that's what my boobs are for!

My mom asked about water too. My mom is one of those "the doctors don't know everything" types so she's always making it seem like I'm doing everything wrong
  • My mom said I should be feeding Quinn water as well! We also had DHs parents watch him last night while we grabbed wings and they were all 'how do we clean his penis when we change his diaper?' (uncirced.)

    Oh boy.

Oh god. Don't tell me they recommended pulling back his foreskin
  • My MIL bought Burt's Bees big spray for my baby since it's almost summertime and the mosquitoes get horrible here. We'll be taking her out sometimes, but we also have a problem with bugs getting in the house. -_- I can't find any reviews on if it's safe for newborns. What do y'all think? Any experiences with it?

  • Cereal and water? Interesting... My mom breastfed. She hasn't given me any advice on feeding...yet...

My nipples are killing me. LO can't stop comfort nursing :( part of me is really annoyed she starts crying 1-5 minutes after I put her down. The other half of me knows that she just doesnt feel good and needs me right now. If she feels like I do she is probably miserable.

With the exception of her first one in the morning... Alice is starting to take super short naps!!!

Any one with experience with EASY with a short napper? I feel like I'm totally winging it and the time before bed (like 6 - 8ish) is HELL because she screams and screams because I'm trying to keep her awake for the most part so she won't cat nap then want to be awake all night. She sleep for like 3 1/2 to 4 hours once she's down for hte night... but I can't get any more than 45 mins to an hour out of her during the day.
I'm trying EASY as well and DD will not nap! If we go out she'll snooze in the car for 15-20 minutes otherwise I get maybe 2 45 minute naps out of her between 9am and 8pm. 6 to 8 is her freak out time as well. She sleeps great once she goes down but man what I wouldn't give for some longer naps so I could get more done during the day.
  • I personally like my LO sleeping in the main area of my house. My experience is that babies get used to sleeping with noise and light are better sleepers. Esp if they will eventually go to daycare or something
  • @thomas930‌ now my dog is channeling your dog. He vomited part of his dinner last night, and he just vomited a massive amount just now. I have a screaming baby and a vomiting dog. Such a fun time for all

Oh no :( poor dog. Any chance he got into anything? Like dirty diapers? My dog likes to lick them clean...
  • I'm not sure. We have an any trap and some ant poison stuff out that we thought he might have gotten into, but I'm not sure. He also was eating some weeds in the backyard.

Secrets of the baby whisperer. It has the EASY method explained plus a bunch of other stuff. I'm turning into a baby book whore. I have the book on pretty much everything. :D

  • I'm liking the EASY method although i feel like LO kind of adapted a similar routine on his own. He has always been a little awake after feedings during the day and we would "play" for a bit before he conked out, which is essentially the EASY method. It's not perfect and doesn't work every time but it seems to click for us most days.
  • DH was supposed to work a few hours today to get some overtime since I'm not currently bringing anything in... He was already at 51 hours this week...

Well he left at 6:50 am and didn't get back until after 8 pm....

LO has been attached to my boob because she doesn't feel well since like 4 or 5 am.... It is now almost 10pm... Still going! I feel loved but I have a temp of 99.7, my body is sore, I can't breath, and I'm overtired.

I immediatly handed DH LO and went outside and fed our goats. LO pretty much cried the whole time. I come back in and DH is like, I think she's hungry....

    No...
  • @poru Poor dude. I'm so sorry you're dealing with a sick kid and seemingly cray cray in laws. That's a rough deal.

I'm so frustrated and overwhelmed. It's been 2 weeks without DH, 14 or so left. Money is tight, it always is and more so with everything going on. Well DH mentions today how he wanted to go to see his brother for Memorial Day or his class is all going to the beach, but he can't because we have no money. I feel so awful that he can't go do anything, but at the same time, I don't get to do anything either!! I'm partially so jealous of all the sleep and gym time he gets.
  • @poru‌, so sorry for your crappy ILs and for LO being sick. If it makes you feel better, my dd once barfed all over a restaurant booth and me when she had a stomach bug. She was maybe 18 months old, so past the point of having a diaper bag/change of clothes with us. So I sat in barf-soaked clothes until we left.

    Ugh! That's a long time :(

Don't feel guilty that he can't go do fun stuff right now. It's not like you are going out right now. You can wish he could go do stuff but don't guilt trip yourself about it. It is what it is. Maybe try to put a tiny bit away each week and safe up for a nice dinner or something.

Whoever suggested bouncing on a yoga ball: you rock! That totally helps here!

I think that was @teresa1896.  It works miracles in my house too!

Yep, it was me, and I've seen other people swear by it too! I got rid of my yoga ball but wish I still had it.... Bouncing is the only thing that stops the screaming!!! :)

Thanks everyone. If I didn't have RTT to vent to I would most definitely lose my cool. You guys are the best.

I agree. Today had been a bad day and I've been complaining a lot and no one had told me off. It's nice to have a place to let it all out.
  • @poru sounds like you need a night out as well, lol! My father in law just left not too long ago. I didn't even really care about discretion. It's not my fault he was staring at my boob ;)
  • XP from stupid questions: Thinking of getting a Wubbanub for DS and was wondering: does the animal disconnect from the soothie? DS doesn't like the soothie style paci. I want one that will just connect to the style pacis that he likes (Avent and MAM).

    Nope, doesn't disconnect. :(
