RMA NJ ladies!

I just wanted to get your thoughts on two things:
-What are your overall thoughts/feelings on the clinic

-What are your thoughts about their success rates? I went to this website:

and started thinking....they have a 70% success rate, but that's on 500 cycles. I think the 500 cycles is because they see so many ppl (they have so many locations) but is it also because at RMA ppl have to do multiple cycles? Their cycle numbers are considerably higher than all other clinics. Thoughts?

I think I'm just psyching myself out with my first cycle coming up. I'm excited, but apparently there are many more mixed emotions coming to the surface!

Re: RMA NJ ladies!

  • You are looking at a summary of the data. Click here:

RMA does over 3,000 cycles per year. I have many, many thoughts about this data- I'm very cynical. I wonder if the studies are included in this data or are they reported else where... I'm not sure.. but the truth is- tons of people have success there. I am in a situation where I have very little hope of anything working other than donor egg/ donor sperm- but they still see me and let me try with my own eggs. I guess to me it's a bigger deal knowing they have such good numbers and still take on almost hopeless cases.

And the 70% is per cycle success rate- not per person. :)

ETA: The most impressive thing about them is that of all those 3,000 + cycles, not one cycle was from an unknown cause. I think about that a lot. So many people here don't know why they have fertility issues, yet no one at RMA is given that dx.

  • We're in the middle of our first IVF cycle at RMA and I can't say enough good things about them. My nurse is amazing, my doctor will answer any questions we have and what I really like about them is that they think outside the box and tell you why they laid out a given plan.

What office are you going to?

I'm a patient of RMA NJ too.  I mostly go to the Morristown office and I see Dr. Bergh.  We haven't moved onto IVF yet.  I have a recurrent miscarriage issue but Dr. Bergh makes me feel like my case isn't hopeless.

We just had another c/p during an injectibles cycle and have our followup to determine our path forward tonight.  I think we are looking at doing IVF with CCS.  I love Dr. Bergh and my nurse Jessica.  Although we haven't have success yet, I'm very hopeful working with them.

  • Ticker/pic warning....

I'm a lurker (was on the board with when TTC DD) and an RMA patient. While at times I feel they can be a bit 'clinical' I do believe their lab is one of the best, and that is why they have so much success. To me, when dealing with IF, I'll take experts in what they do over someone who is warm and fuzzy-because the experts brought me DD (IVF #1) and hopefully if things progress DD #2 (got a BFP from my FET this morning). Also, I love how much research they do-we were able to participate in an IVF study and that was such a blessing as we didn't have coverage for IVF when TTC DD.

  • ****WARNING****

I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and we only did one cycle of IVF w/FET at RMA and so far so good it worked!  *knock on wood*  We jumped right to IVF, as my primary doc didn't think IUI was worth it given our dx.  The only other thing I tried prior was two clomid cycles with my OB, so basically nothing since it wasn't monitored or anything.  I do know that we're VERY lucky that it worked for us on the first try.  But I think RMA is fantastic, they have top of the line everything and some of the most thorough monitoring based on some of the other schedules I've seen on these boards (i.e. you get 6 betas and 4 u/s once you're pregnant before they release you - that's a ton compared to a lot of what I've seen on the PAIF board).  They also have one of the best labs in the country...they go to day 6 with pretty much everyone, unless other circumstance, because they feel that their lab is actually a better environment than a uterus up to that point, which they also feel contributes to their success rates because an embryo at that stage is most likely hatching/already fully hatched.  Good luck with wherever you decide to go!

  • Your nurse should give you a calendar once you go for your CD3 visit. Depending on your protocol, certain ones are in the morning and others at night but the only one they gave me a specific time to take is my Ovidrel trigger. They didn't give me instructions but my pharmacy had included a packet with instructions for every med. I'd check your meds package and see if they included anything like that. What do they have you on?

  • Hi Ladies! I've been with RMA of NJ (Basking Ridge) since July 2013. Currently on month 21 of TTC and we were just accepted into the NexGen IVF Study! I had three failed IUI's at RMA all cycles were injectable cycles with Follistim so I'm really not too nervous about the IVF proceedure other than the Anesthesia for the Egg Retrieval. I see some of you are now pregnant thanks to RMA! So exciting :) How many cycles did you have before getting pregnant? And were you in an IVF study with RMA? Any advice as far as Acupuncture or anything else you wish you knew before starting IVF?! I'm really excited and hopeful and looking for other people who understand this process, so glad to have found your post!

I'm really excited and hopeful and looking for other people who understand this process, so glad to have found your post!
    BFP warning…
I am at basking ridge, too! I got a BFP on my first IVF cycle at RMA. I was part of the Summit study. I did the laster acupuncture but didn't love it. I get acupuncture once a week so the laster just didn't measure up. RMA's study on laster acupuncture showed that it increased changes by 6%, for whatever that's worth.

I just wish I would have taken their OHSS warnings more seriously. If you are at risk (they can tell by how many follicles you produce) eat salty foods and drink gatorade!!

    Good luck!

  • OMG @Camerabug131 Congrats I see you just found out that you're pregnant with TWINS!! The NexGen Study transfers two frozen embryos and twins run on both sides of our families... soooo haha we shall see! Hoping this IVF Cycle works for us too! Thanks for the info :) I will keep you posted and I have an appointment with Mark at RMA for acupuncture on March 10th but maybe I will start seeing someone closer to home once a week instead and just set up the laser acupuncture for before and after ER? It seems like thats what most people opt to do. :) Can't hurt!!

  • *BFP warning, not mine

I have heard great things about them, I worked with them when I was an egg donor.

For insurance purposes, we are using IVF NJ instead, but I had thought about going back to RMA NJ.  Though I like the earlier monitoring hours at RMA NJ, they open a little bit earlier

A coworker had a successful first time IVF there and a successful FET as well.

    All Welcome

  • Hello ladies ...
I was an RMA patient in 2012/13 , but before going to them I use to be a patient at Diamond Institute in Millburn nj, and I can tell you this place was terrible it was very unprofessional and the doctors were rude .. I had 3 failed IUI's and 1 IVF cycle that ended in a MC sep 2012 . I become a patient at RMA in Oct 2012 . My ER was Feb 9th 2013
ET was 16,2013 found out I was pregnant on Feb 24, 2013 and had my beautiful baby boy Oct 19,2013 ... RMA was the best thing that happened to my husband and I the doctors were great I can't thank them enough !!!
  • Has anyone ever been a part of the SuMMIT study? I'm currently a part of it and sort of wishing I hadn't been. I did my egg retrieval and should be preparing for my FET but am on hold due to the study. They are apparently still running tests on my embryos (all 25 of them!) and I kind of feel like I've been left in the dark about any information as far as the status of the embryos and how long the testing will take. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge about the study?
  • Hi, I'm just starting with RMA PA but will do retrieval and transfer in NJ. I've heard nothing but good things and thus far seem very nice.

I was part of the summit study. I did not feel as though it effected my care. I was going to do a fresh transfer if I had not gotten OHSS. They had my ccs results the day I was supposed to transfer, so five days after retrieval. Private message me if you have any specific questions.

I'm in the SuMMIT Trial, and am currently waiting on CCS results for our embryo. Our embryo was slow growing, so we did a freeze-all (I still think it's funny to say that for one embryo!). Hopefully our results will be back later this week, and we can do a FET in April.

  • Hi all! Funny seeing this thread because after doing some research last night I came across RMA and was pleased with their success rates. After failing 3 IVF's, 1 FET and 2 m/c I am over it!

I want a REPUTABLE, high tech office. I am seriously considering going to RMA-PA in Allentown, although I live in Richmond, VA. I think I might call for a consult and see if I could do blood work locally and just make the trek there for the big stuff.

Are they basically the same clinic?
    Thanks!

  • Thanks for your replies. I feel better hearing from other people. Sometimes I feel like it's hard to get information from the RMA office or get someone to answer questions if you're not in the office (and even then it's usually a pretty rushed in-and-out). But I guess I'm just eager to do the transfer and am being impatient. I just felt like I was on my way after the ER and now feel at a standstill, but I guess its a good thing the embryos are undergoing all the testing. It looks like my FET will be in April too.
Best of luck to you, RunCC! And Camerabug, was yours a success? (If you don't mind me asking)

I was at R.MAN.J today for a consult. I believe the NJ locations have the great lab. (someone correct me if I am wrong). They do thousands of cycles a year there. You could get a phone consult since you are out if state. GL!

  • @cls78 Thank you!
I was looking on the SART website and it said RMA-PA had a higher success rate. But both were very successful. I guess I didn't take into account the number of cycles either.

I am thinking they are both the same distance (NJ might be a bit further but not much). I am ready to pull out the big guns.

I don't have time to waste anymore. I figured they look just as good as CCRM so that makes them seem even closer ha!

I'm not actually sure, we're just starting the whole process.  We met with Dr. Schillings last week and she was super nice.  Everyone at the office was really nice, there was even a resident with her who I really liked.  We have an hour and 15 min drive each direction and they have evening hours one day a week which helps with not having to miss time at work.

The main hub is Basking Ridge. Many of the other locations are closed on holidays and weekends, but Basking Ridge is open 365. When you are cycling, you need ultra sounds every two days.

The FET was completely painless. I was worried because the HSG was so painful. I got my first BFP 4dp5dt. Good luck to you!
