Re: CRAZY COMMENTS

  • I was joking with a friend the other day about them being kittens. We later determined if they were, I should name one Fido.

  • I was at the grocery store with my kiddos yesterday and a cashier from a few lanes away came over, put her hand on my should and said, "I struggled with infertility, too". No "hi" "are they twins", nope, just jumping right in with an assumption. What the fuck lady? I was quite surprised to have conceived my twins spontaneously but if I had struggled with infertility that would hardly make her comment any less bizarre and rude. I wanted to shout that my sex life is none of her business.

  • I was at the mall today with my girlfriend who ALSO has fraternal twin girls.  A 50ish year old man walks by, looks back at us and then shudders.  We got a good laugh at that! I told him, "Don't worry they aren't yours!"
  • Some people should just walk around w/ duct tape over their mouths.

I posted this several months back, but during one of my NSTs, the OB on call said "Twins eh? Did you conceive them all by yourself?" I just answered "No." :-P

  • I had gone into hospital with PTL, once the contrations stopped they scheduled me for an ultrasound to see how the babies where doing. They decided to give an ultrasound tech student a chance to do it, as I am sure triplet pregnany is a little more unique. She was asking all sorts of questions and stuff - this I didn't mind until she exclaimed 'I bet you can't wait until they are born'.
Are you kidding me?!?? I am 24 weeks, you bet I WANT to wait as long as possible. She ended-up getting in trouble for that comment, as she should.

There was an idiot at work who had the audacity to say something similar to me.  She was also pregnant (about 30 weeks) and I was around 24 weeks.  She had a teeny, tiny bump but would complain to everyone about how huge and uncomfortable she was.  She came up to me one day complaining about being in the third tri, then said, "I wish she'd just hurry up and come now.  I can't imagine how you feel.  Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll come early."

I freaked out at her.  Not only was I praying to every deity imaginable that my babies would stay put until 36 weeks, but another co-worker had just delivered a premature girl at 27 weeks less than a month earlier.  How freaking stupid and insensitive can a person be?

Y'all, this thread is my morning go-to for a great laugh!!! I'm in laughing and crying at the same time!
    =))

    @Kissimi21
Yeah, THAT one I would have lost my cool with... not cool. at. all..  I get that people speak first, think second, but wishing her baby to be put at risk just because she's uncomfortable and thinking you're the same boat is pure stupidity.

  • Today at the allergy dr I met with the nurse first who took my vitals and asked a few questions. I mentioned my pregnancy and she noted it in the chart and left to get the doctor. When the dr came in he asked if I knew yet if I was having a boy or girl. I said "one is a girl, but we couldn't get a good look at the other one yet." He did a face palm and says "oh crap you're having twins?!" Um yeah... Me, not you, dummy. He sat there shaking his head for a minute like it was just the worst news ever. Weird. The nurse, however, was giddy and asked a bunch more (appropriate) questions (due date, picked names yet, etc.)

  • @sing4mysavior Yay!  My MIL has always disliked me. I "took her place" in the raising of our son.  To clarify, my hubby was a single full-time dad to a great 9 yr old when we met (birth mother not in the picture by his choosing) and had to rely on his parents to take care of his son for the 2 times a year he had to go out of town for work.  They have stated that, because of that, THEY raised him.  (um, no, you really didn't you psycho crazy *&^%) I was kind and respectful to them from day 1, but it was evident when my hubby's chose to stay with me when he went out of town that they took offense to that. (My hubby and I were dating at the time, we had a long, LONG talk and as it was just overnight we thought we'd give it a try, since his son is the one who asked to stay with me. We had a blast and it's been that way ever since)  When my hubby learned that he no longer needs to allow them to bully him into doing what they want because he isn't so reliant on them for the infrequent help, they say I'm forcing him to change, that he isn't the same.  Well, he isn't the same, he has a wife who loves him and let him know that he doesn't need to allow them to bully him, that I'll stand behind his decisions in regards to his son, that he can stand up for himself to anyone (including me) that tries to force him to do something.  They don't like that.  Now that we have our own babies on the way and he's stood up to them so many times, he knows that when it comes to the well being of my children (including his son) I will do ANYTHING to protect them, I won't wait to see if he'll say or do something.  Again, they take offense to that too.  I still try to be civil and kind but it's evident she doesn't like me, so I try to avoid them whenever possible.  The kicker is I can chat with my FIL, but the minute his wife walks in the room he shuts down and won't even look at me.

  • @JoDoc....sorry to hear about a tough MIL....that is no fun :(

Oh my SIL was similar in comments. She would comment to me how she was so uncomfortable and at 33 weeks was hoping for her baby to come early so she didn't have to be pg anymore. This upset me obviously because mine came way earlier than I wanted them to. I was praying everyday I was pg that they would stay put till 37 weeks. Also, after my last OB appt, I prayed that my next 2 NSTs and BPP would go well and I'd get another week. That didn't happen.

i recently posted a photo on facebook when I was about 27 weeks and a friend (who just had a baby herself) commented "OMG! you're getting so big I don't think you'll make it past 34 weeks" Thanks, so not only am I gigantic you also think because of that my babies will be premature, how nice.

  • Oh! Pp reminded me of the worst comment I ever received! It was also a client at work. When I told him we had twins on the way, his response was "Isn't there a good chance something will go wrong with twins?" Then proceeded to tell me about his cousin's uncle's brother who lost their set of twins in the womb. I was livid! Like I wasn't worried enough!

People just don't think.  No one would tell someone who is scheduled for heart surgery that there is a chance they won't survive, but seeing a bump throws all sense and good manners out the window.

  • The other day I had a woman come up to me and tell me that way back when she was pregnant she thought she was having twins.  Turned out she just had one big baby.  I still have no idea why she needed to tell me that.

At a farmer's market last weekend my MoMs group was meeting.  There were just 4 of us there.  As we're walking around we all kept hearing...another set of twins!  This one girls sees us all at the same time and gets in the middle of us like she's trying to soak in our vibes.  Then she gets all excited about all the twins to her husband who didn't look very happy.  lol  I said...maybe you'll have twins...or triplets!  Not that I think having triplets is bad (though I do give cudos to you triplet and other higher order moms!), but she was just a little nuts about the twins.

I do get told all the time that I'm done because I have a boy and a girl.

My dad was visiting last weekend.  We were just starting to eat after having gotten our food and I *just* got DD calmed down.  This woman just walks over to our table, stands there and starts talking to us while we're trying to eat.  She also has twins but they're like 27 or something.  I don't care if you had twins or one or 15 at a time...do not walk up to a table, stand there and talk to them when they are just trying to eat!  At least ask if it's ok first.

OH!  So I was talking to my mother about something to do with singletons.  She told me that I was being discriminatory towards singletons because it was a derogatory remark.  Last I checked one baby at a time is a singleton...or am I wrong about that?  lol

This wasn't a comment but I took the kids to the Riverwalk in San Antonio.  They were like 10 or 11 months so I clearly had the stroller.  People would stop on the sidewalk to oogle them and take pictures.  By stopping they were blocking the entire area to walk so I had no choice but to stop.  The canopies were on their seats and they were sleeping!  People make like they have never seen two children at one time before!  As if I'm the only person out there who has two kids!  I get that they are twins but still people...twins is by far a side show act!

  • I took LOs to get their flu shot today, and the nurse commented on how nice it was that DH was there to help....to which I replied "Yeah; I'm not brave enough to wrestle both of them for appointments, at least when there are shots involved." She answered "Yeah, there was another mom in here with her twins and I thought 'That would never be me....like the crazy cat lady out with her twins!'"

^#(^ <-- This is my "I didn't realize that twin mom = crazy cat lady" face.

  • Just getting caught up on this thread. Love it! This isn't a comment about the twins... But does anyone else find it awkward when you see someone for the first time after having your twins and they have to comment on how great you look? I am under my pre-pregnancy weight, so I know I look better. But, everything is also in a different location these days not to mention the twin skin and stretch marks (my love skin and love marks ;) ). I know they are being nice and maybe do mean it. But, I still don't like it.

Meh, I never mind being told I look great (unless it's done awkwardly I guess, heheh). What I did find obnoxious was when it got back to me that the gals in my choir were speculating on whether or not I'd lost the baby weight yet....at like 2 weeks post-partum! Seriously ladies??

  • Ugh. I just thought of one I had early on (as a general pregnancy thing, non-specific to twins) that made me really pissed:
This woman's morning sickness cure was to do three things before getting out of bed: eat saltines (pretty normal), drink a can of pepsi (seriously?), and smoke a cigarette (You CANNOT seriously be recommending this to me!?!). For real.
