  • What's the most emotionally challenging memory you have from your pregnancy journey that left a lasting impact on you?
  • I'm not sure if this is the right place. But I wanted to ask about pregnancy tests. Has anyone tested with a First Response Rapid Result and a First Response Early Result and noticed if the test line is lighter/darker? I tested Monday and today with a Rapid Result, and this afternoon I tested with an Early Result and the line is much darker. I'm not sure if it's a true indicator of my HCG level increasing or it is simply darker because the Early Result is more sensitive. Any experience with this?
    Thanks
  • @thebadegg Hi! No experience with these two specific tests but I know some tests have darker dye than others (I tested with two different brands and it was clear that one of them just had darker dye). You probably know this, but how dark the line is also dependent on other factors like how much water you’ve had (and therefore how concentrated your urine is). Unfortunately the line darkness isn’t a super reliable way to tell how your HCG levels are progressing. I hope this is maybe a little helpful!
  • High Risk Dr

My OB is sending me for a checkup around 14 weeks to the high risk Dr….(my age and history of high blood pressure) Does anyone have experience with going to a high risk Dr? What can I expect? She mentioned they do more in depth scans/screenings. Thanks!
  • Has anyone had confirmed what best practice is around Essential Oils. I’ve seen conflicting advice on whether or not to use Peppermint Essential oil. Would be great to know as I have started feeling nauseous but so far that’s it. I’d like to be able to combat it a bit more effectively for when it comes in full force.
  • I was high risk my last pregnancy due to placenta previa. Definitely means more scans/seeing the baby- which was incredibly reassuring to me to see baby pretty much every 4-8 weeks ☺️ and every other week the last 6 weeks. Everyone’s case is different obvi but you’ll get so many more chances to see the baby!
  • @kates0902 hi and congrats! My last pregnancy was with identical twins that shared a placenta so I had to go to maternal fetal medicine every 2 weeks from 16 weeks through delivery. They did very in depth scans - measuring babies organs, bones, brain, lots of heart measurements, blood flow etc. My Apts were usually 1.5 hours ( because 2 babies that liked to hide each other).
  • I'm 42 and 8 1/2 weeks along with my 1st and I'm TIRED ALL OF THE TIME!!!! I stopped my ADHD medication as soon as I found out a month ago and work is really starting to pile up and difficult to manage. Any other mama's been in or in this same boat???
  • I’m not ready to tell anyone yet, and I’m trying to figure how to not drink without raising any suspicions. We see my in laws weekly, but it’s been a lot of daytime events lately so didn’t have to worry about it yet, but this weekend they are coming for dinner, and I’m worried it will be noticed if I refuse a glass of wine (my FIL always brings a bottle for dinner). My MIL also always says that she’ll have one if I have one.  Anyone have any slick ways to get through a situation where you might be caught out for not drinking?
  • I told my friends that I was taking antibiotics. If they had follow-ups I was going to go further in depth about a  "painful UTI" and needing to drink water.  But pretty much I've found that no one cares as much about what you are drinking as they do about what they are drinking. I also attended a wedding and a glass of sprite passed just as well as a vodka sprite or other clear cocktail, so that's good for events with bar service. In-laws are tricky because they could be more on guard, but probably won't be their first thought unless they know you were trying.
  • @maggiemadeit have a mocktail already made when they arrive. Offer them one but with all ingredients.  If they offer wine- you already have a drink going.
  • Thanks for your good ideas @stress_engine @kbtt2022! I like the idea of passing off a soda as a drink and having it poured before they arrive!
  • @skysthelimit_81 hey! I stopped my adhd meds when we were trying to conceive- I get the work piling up. I like to make checklists of small tangible goals. I give myself 5 for the morning and 5 for the afternoon… I did tell my boss. Bc I work in healthcare and needed to stop taking X-rays. And he has been understanding about deadlines etc. and he has not told the staff. So I would tell your boss. I get the fear of telling people. But the reality is.. if something happens to me or this baby I’m going to end up telling him anyway bc I will need time off. So my boss knowing has helped with my work load. I also keep telling myself. Right now my 70% is going to have to be enough.

@maggiemadeit Hmmm I’d maybe say something like “my stomach has been upset today so I’m just sticking with water” or “I’m fighting off a headache so I’m just trying to stay hydrated”
  • Yes. First trimester can be so exhausting even when you aren’t experiencing medication withdrawal. I ended up telling my employer much earlier than I had planned because I was sick to my stomach most days and just plan exhausted and mentally foggy - I was missing meetings and felt they had a right to know why. I’m not sure what kind of job you have but I was able to rearrange my schedule so that I worked when I felt well and took time when I needed time. This meant I was sometimes catching up on the weekends. I hope you are able to build in that kind of flexibility! Good luck!
  • The thing that has helped me the most since stopping my ADHD meds is bineural beats - they’re basically songs that they play at the spa, very ethereal “soundscapes,” but they play a different tone in each ear. If you wear earbuds while listening to them, your brain gets super activated since it has to process different tones in each ear, and I honestly cannot be productive unless I’m listening to them now. There is a podcast on Spotify called bineural beats podcast and it is truly saving my life productivity-wise. I hope it helps you too!
  • Acknowledging that it's way early for this question, but I love researching/having information...

Resources for managing birth without an epidural?

I had an epidural with my first 2 births, but labor with my second was 6 hours. The epi had to be placed twice and wasn't fully kicked in by the time I was pushing. If my labor goes quicker this time, I may not have time to get one and want to be mentally prepared.

  • @saltedcaramel518 I recommend hypnobirthing. My first was a c section and I was really committed to an unmedicated VBAC for #2. I don’t know if I would have been successful without the hypnobirthing stuff. The affirmations and the nighttime meditations really got me believing I could do it. There are some great videos on YouTube where people film their hypnobirthing and it’s crazy to see how calm they are. I wasn’t quite that Zen but it really helped me through.
  • @saltedcaramel518 last pregnancy (twins) I read Mama Natural and watched the class. I found it somewhat helpful.  I never really got the desire for an epidural but what I didn't expect was for  them to require me to sign paperwork declining  an epidural and have a convo with the anesthesiologist at  10 cm when I just wanted to be left alone 😵‍💫🙃. Had I known that I would have asked to sign any documents much earlier

My morning sickness was never that bad to begin with... i guess i was one of the lucky ones. Having very little symptoms always freaks me out and trying to sit in on being lucky lol .  From your experience, When does the placenta take over? I am reading wide ranges anyone get a an ultrasound around 9-10 weeks and see that that placenta already took over ? Any info would be helpful here
  • I seem to be bleeding each time I shave. My skin doesn't feel particularly dry, but I do see more after-shaving irritation. Any tips?
  • Does anyone have any recommendations for really bad nausea? I feel terrible, I’m 11w with twins and always have this weird taste in my mouth. I also have GD so I can’t eat a lot of things. Oranges taste so good to me and help with that taste but I can only have 2 servings of fruit a day with lunch and dinner. My dr recommend vitamin B6 but it’s not helping and unisom is for night time. I just want to feel better 😭
  • @Molina93 my nausea is mostly heartburn/reflux related. I almost constantly have a strong metallic like taste in my mouth and also a lot of gagging. I take pepcid twice a day everyday. It's pregnancy safe, but I got a prescription from my Dr for more than the over the counter dosage to keep my symptoms under control.
  • @Molina93 I take unisom and B6 at night at it helps my nausea for the most part. I still don’t feel great though. My midwife prescribed me zofran as well, but I haven’t needed to take it yet. I would ask your provider if they can prescribe you something stronger if you’re feeling really sick, especially with the GD. You deserve to feel better.
  • Hey, friends, so I just went in for my first OB visit this morning and the doctor checked everything and said everything looked fine. The exam did hurt and I'm very sore down there. I've also been having some spotting since. It's just when I wipe and it's been pink or light red. I think it's probably normal, and I have not had any cramping or anything like that, but I'm a FTM and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
  • @hrjackson7 I haven't, but do remember that it can be normal to have some spotting after an exam. Definitely reach out to your OB to double check if you are concerned (they are always happy to reassure you)!
  • Hi everyone! I’m due 6/12/24 (13w) and have done the NIPT testing twice with “no results” with a low fetal fraction. I understand my BMI is on the higher side, but has anyone else had this happen? And is there a different test you’ve had success with? I’m going to call my doctor, I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you!
  • Hi all. I am just about 40 weeks now. I’ve had my membranes swept three times, I’ve lost FOUR mucous plugs (one per week the last 4 weeks and I’m talking large, large amounts), back pain, period cramping, intense lightening, pelvic pain, etc for over the last three weeks and still no progression with contractions. Any mamas out there gone through something similar? I have done all of the old wives tales to induce labor (minus the castor oil I don’t want to do that). I think my exercise ball is about to flatten out on me. & I genuinely have no idea what to think or feel anymore. I’m discouraged at this point. Just want some guidance. Thank you!
  • Ugh, you’ve really been through it all. That was my first. I know it’s cliche but what helped for me was to rest and relax as much as possible. When baby is ready, they will come, holding onto stress can stall labor. I delivered my first baby two days before my mandated induction date, at almost 42 weeks… and my second came 39w4d. It’s also helpful to remember your due date is an educated guess and all babies are different.
  • Both my babies came late. 41w1d and 40w6d. I was in labor with contractions but no dilation for days with my first, even with rounds of softening gel throughout the week. On the fifth day of labor as I was leaving the hospital room because they were about to send me home for no dilating, my water broke. With my second, I just waited it out and one morning my water broke on it's own. I too tried everything I read about about, but nothing seemed to make a difference. Your body just might not be ready yet. hang in there, and foster the relationship with your caregivers. They also want what's best for you and baby. Good Luck!
  • I’m 12 weeks, 13 on Monday. Having twins. At this point I don’t really have a bump, rather my entire stomach area is protruding like Winnie the Pooh. Is that normal? (FTM here.)
  • @knottied4178e130d679c45 my first pregnancy was twins and I couldn't hide my belly at 12 weeks. I was 11 weeks when I raised my arms overhead and my belly button would pop out. It show up really fast when there are 2!
  • thank you! Yeah I’m about out of my regular pants already which I thought I was ok with/ready for but now I feel less so!

    Wrong thread
  • 13 weeks: have a question about intimacy. My boyfriend is usually pretty “cautious” and doesn’t seem interested in sex in the first trimester even though we have no reason to abstain. Now I’m moving into the second trimester, starting to hit my stride and feeling more interested, but I feel like he isn’t. When I’m not pregnant we seem to be more on the same page. Any suggestions on how to bring this up? I don’t want to shame or blame him, I just want to have an open time to understand where’s he is coming from and tell him I am interested. When I try to subtly have alone time or come onto him, he isn’t interested and it’s time to be more direct but I don’t want to hurt his feelings. But, my feelings are hurt. I feel rejected and self conscious about my body which is obviously changing. Anyone else have this?
  • This happened to us too. Between me not feeling well and us both being anxious in the first trimester sex was pretty rare. I recently just said pretty bluntly to my husband that I missed being with him and that I wanted to get our sex life back on track. And I said it while wearing sexy lingerie. Seems to have done the trick, but he still asks during certain activities if are squishing the baby lol

I would suggest just talking to him honestly about what you miss about your adult time together. If you approach it in a positive way hopefully he will respond in a positive way as well, or at least be able to talk to you about it without getting defensive. Good luck!
  • That makes sense! I’m hoping to have a chance after bedtime tonight to have a talk and no pressure quality time.
  • Can anyone share how their resting HR has changed during pregnancy so far? Mine went from being in the 50s before pregnancy to now being around 75 at 16 weeks. I know it’s supposed to go up, but I feel like mine has been pretty drastic, and I’ve been feeling flutters (palpitations?) too. I have an appointment on Thursday and I’ll ask the OBGYN but I was just wondering if anyone had similar experiences?
  • I’ve had heart flutters with this baby too! But I did also have Covid a month ago. I ask my OB and she said to keep an eye on it and we checked my thyroid levels to make sure that wasn’t a problem. It has gotten better the further away from my Covid. I normally have heart palpitations a few times a year but this got to be multiple times a week.
