I think my baby is messing with me at this point lol. We just had our 3rd anatomy scan and baby was face down (last time baby was head down, the time before that it was just a moving maniac). Unlike last time, they were at least able to communicate that they don't think they see any heart issues based on what they saw today, but it is their protocol to not clear the heart until baby is on its back. They felt confident enough that we don't have to go to Cardiology, but do have to go back to MFM in a month.
Coming in to vent: So I got blindsided last night and found out from a news article that my hospital is ceasing OB services as of 6/1. It means my OB that I love won’t be delivering my baby and I’ll now be delivering at a different hospital than I was planning. I’m pretty crushed because I had a really good relationship with my OB and am very concerned about finding another, especially one who isn’t fat phobic (which was one of my favorite things about my current OB). I’m heartbroken and stressed and angry.
@gingermama29 ugh that is so sad!! One of the area hospitals near me just recently closed their OB department so we got a lot of their patients over the last several months. A few of their doctors actually got privileges at my hospital and still deliver their patients - have you been in touch with your OB to see if this is an option?
I hope it is! And if not that they can give you recommendations on who to see! I’m so sorry that this is happening.
@cherrystorming that’s such a bummer! The local hospital system around us recently moved from many of their baby’s being delivered by family doctors to only being delivered by OB’s which there hasn’t been enough OB’s for the size of the area in quite some time. They also downsized the amount of hospitals that allow birthing to 3 hospitals.
A lot of people are refusing to deliver with that hospital system now. I know so many that are going the homebirth/birth center route (including me) or driving to a further away hospital. I feel like a lot of places are closing or downsizing their OB departments these days
@cherrystorming I called my OB’s office this afternoon and was told that my OB will be staying local and doing only GYN services. I asked if there was any possibility of him still delivering my baby and was told no (though not by him so idk). I don’t think he had much of a day in things or necessarily knew it was coming. The decision came from the hospital. My SIL has already given a good recommendation and they are in network for my insurance so I have an option. I just don’t want to have to switch providers especially when mine knows my history and anxieties.
@ccmrc143 thankfully it’s only 30 minutes away and it’s literally less than a block from my SIL’s house so they could potentially watch DD while I’m delivering. I don’t mind moving hospitals nearly as much as losing my OB.
We have HFM. 😫 at this point I feel like we need to quarantine until our Hawaii trip so we don’t have sick kids on the trip. That happened last summer and it was awful!
@justyouraveragemama My best friend’s kids got it from our other friend. We spend a ton of time with them so once they got it I knew it was a strong possibility. We got HFM last summer too. Just one kid got it and it didn’t pass through all the kids. I’m hoping that is what happens this time too. Honestly, I’ll take HFM over another stomach virus.
@emeraldcity603 oh no I’m sorry! How far away is your trip to Hawaii? Quarantine might not be a bad idea given how much you’ve been hit so far this year. What a pain.
DS has been good at playing independently the last couple of days. I’m sitting in a chair and he’s playing with a toy not paying attention to me. This has basically never happened before. It’s amazing. He’ll be 2 on Saturday! Hopefully this trend will stick as he gets older.
@ccmrc143 We leave right after Memorial Day weekend. So we still have a few weeks. I did quarantine us last October for our trip and it was way better than the following May. In May each kid had a different thing going on and it made doing anything nearly impossible.
Next chapter in the "we need a new ped" book: on our telehealth call TWO WEEKS AGO now, I talked to the doctor while my daughter played in her room. Apparently that "doesn't count" as an encounter since she didn't physically SEE my daughter, so I had to do a follow-up last week with both of us visible. I haven't seen a bill yet from the office, but they billed our insurance for two separate visits. Yeah...not going to pay our copay twice, folks, especially since I had never heard from the scheduler about our referral so asked about that on visit #2, and the doctor was surprised I was never given the phone number for the sleep therapist she was referring us to. So I got into our portal notes last night and sure enough, the referral was never actually contacted (and then the one she was referring us to is booking into NOVEMBER now, no thank you). My husband is LIVID and I'm not the happiest either. I also don't love that the referral is strictly behavioral, when I'd rather rule out a physical trigger first (iron deficiency? GERD? celiac? Anything?). I'm waiting to hear back (hopefully today) on a get-to-know-you visit with a couple peds that our allergist (who I adore) recommended, since his first suggestion (and my first choice, who my dad taught and who used to babysit me as a kid) isn't taking new patients. But this whole saga is just a joke.
I’m sitting here waiting patiently and nauseously inside a room at least. I had the 3 hour glucose screening which I had to drink 2 bottles of that sweet stuff at 9 am and I already had blood drawn twice from me. They have to draw it 2 more times. I’ve been here for an hour and half so I have hopefully less than 3 hours to go with everything. Drink gave me indigestion and baby is kicking the crap out of me. Can’t wait to go home and eat and drink water too.
@cherrystorming it wasn’t terrible but the glucose drink gave me indigestion so I was burping and gagging for three hours. Blood was taken at 4 different times. I should be getting my results in 3-5 days from what the nurse said but the first glucose 1 hr test she said the same thing and results were next day. I’ll keep you updated! I’m hoping I don’t have GD. I guess I would be a bit shocked since I don’t really eat desserts or drink anything sweet. But who knows if my age plays a factor 🤷♀️
Random, as I’m having a bad week overall. I’ve been under a lot of stress related to work and DH has been on call this week and not really home. I had my OB appointment today and my bp was elevated, worst fear ever based on my hx. I’m really hoping it’s just the lack of sleep and stress this week and not the beginning of hypertension again. I cried. It’s just another thing on top of a pile of things.
So I made the decision for now to reduce my workload early instead of phase out, like we were working towards. It’s just very bad timing. I just had one staff quit and I need to wrap that up, and I’m about to onboard a new staff member. It’s more important to be healthy but it’s hard.
