The Great Big Question Thread

Re: The Great Big Question Thread

  • @knottie_name haha! I bought some cleaner for the bathtub too so I’m with you on that!

I think as long as your doc cleared you of any UTI issues, you’re in the right club. I peed a lot pre pregnancy because of how much water I drink but it’s definitely worse now that baby is on board. I’ve also found the first few hours after I wake up are real tricky and around 2-4am is tricky with the need to pee back to back to back.
  • Hey girls! Sorry if I am repeating a question, I haven’t been on here in a while…

1.) is soaking in a tub ok when pregnant ? No history of a UTI. Can you use bath salts?

2.) reallyyyyy struggling with horrible ankle heel and foot pain. It’s so bad by the end of the day I can’t weight Bare much. Not having
much swelling if any, I wear good support tennis shoes during the day. Just put compression stockings on for first time today to see if it helps. But it’s literally on fire, burning, throbbing and sometimes going numb like it’s so bad. Maybe stemmed from my back from the pressure idk but can anyone relate and any remedies to recommend ?

  • @blf2072 you can soak in a tub as long as it isn’t too hot. Basically if you are comfortable you’re good. I’m sorry about the feet!

  • Yes as long as it's not too hot. I do use bath salts. My belly sticks out of the water anyway so I'm not too worried about baby getting too hot while I bathe. 😂 @blf2072
  • @tuxielove93 @stardustskies
Hahaha thank you for the advise!! My belly probably will too !😂
  • Your foot/leg pain sounds similar to what my husband experienced when he had a pinched nerve in his back. He got some exercises from a PT, so you might talk to your doctor and ask about a referral. I know a lot of the exercises wouldn't work while pregnant, especially not this late, but a PT would be able to tell you what would work and how to do the exercises safely.
  • I haven't had exactly the same kind of pain, but its worth talking to your OB - a chiropractor may help but I'd get your OB's opinion and/or a referral before I just go to one. (FWIW I'm at the chiropractor regularly while pregnant.)
  • Anyone ever use a sibling doula? My mom was supposed to come, but the more I think about it, the more stressed it's making me. I'm not sure if her coming would be better or if having a bonus stranger would be better. I messaged about 20 doulas in my area to see if any of them offer this kind of service.

  • Anyone experience slight blood discharge from their nipple? I’m a FTM ~31 weeks and just noticed late last night before bed that there’s a bit of blood stain on my PJ left breast area. When I looked at it closer it was coming out of one part of my left nipple, I dabbed it with tissue paper to double check. I read online that there’s a chance this is because of increased number and sudden growth of blood vessels. i hope that’s the case and nothing serious. 🤞
  • @sacha0088 This hasn't happened to me but I have been reading about breast changes during pregnancy and have read that this can be common. Mention it to your doctor if it keeps happening or if you're worried, but as a one time thing I would think it's ok.
  • Thanks @stardustskies. I’ll bring it up during my checkup next week.
  • Just checking in. How are you all doing out there? I'm doing well and just received the 15% babylist discount.. that was a nice surprise! What are everyone's must have items for the first few weeks of momdom?

@knottie_name I’m up at 4 am most days now 🥴 had my shower and finally putting nursery together (space theme!) how are you feeling? I’m a FTM so can’t speak to items but I did get the snoo bassinet

wondering what sorts of symptoms everyone has these days? I’m almost 32 weeks and 3rd tri is starting to hit hard, lol

@knottie_name: from my first experience, I will say some essentials for YOU: witch hazel pads, nursing pads, overnight pads (or even adult diapers!), sitz bath brew, Epsom salts, chapsticks, nipple balm (if planning to bf), nice comfy socks and clothes, nursing bras (can also opt out and just let the girls out 😅, but handy for when you have to leave home), peri bottle.
I’d also say… book yourself a massage, chiro treatment, and/or pelvic floor PT with experienced/postpartum specializing therapists. Multiple! Is a huge help! Most will allow you to bring baby with unless you feel you’d prefer time alone.
  • I'm sneaking up on 32 weeks and just starting to feel large and uncomfortable. Induction is scheduled for 7/21 so things are starting to feel close now. Nursery and everything is ready! Just playing the waiting game now.  :)

I’m at 32.5 weeks now, getting heavier and slower when walking around the neighborhood.

@knottie_name Also got my 15% discount on Amazon registry, didn’t know before but it’s limited to two orders only.

Had growth scan US and OB checkup few days ago. Baby growing well. OB checked my left nipple where it was bleeding, took a sample for quick microscope check and cell size & shape looked normal but still wants to refer me to breast specialist just in case. Hope it’s nothing serious🤞

Scheduled rest of my OB appointments until 7/20 (due date). As I was on the phone with front desk, I asked if I can have a preference for female OB to deliver my baby, although I understand it just depends who’s on call. The practice I go to have a few doctors and midwives (most are female, only one male), so I’ve been trying to meet with different doctors/midwives throughout pregnancy checkups. Front desk told me they can’t do that because most likely I will get locums who are all male providers especially during the month of July when I’m due. That was the first time I’m hearing that they use locums and seldom do the midwives & doctors I’ve seen are on call. Is this common? Perhaps they’re just short-staffed? I’m kind of upset that the provider delivering my baby later will likely be OB I’ve never met and is not even a permanent provider at the practice. Early on I was told to meet with each OB during visits so I can feel comfortable with all the providers…almost feels a bit bait and switch 😕
  • @sacha0088 Wow, no, I'd be upset for sure. My practice has 5 midwives and 6 doctors so I've been doing the same thing as you, meeting all of them at my appointments. But it will definitely be one of the midwives at my practice who delivers me (or one of the docs if an emergency c section). I think you are right to feel upset and should definitely talk to the doctor or midwife about that at your next appointment instead of just the front desk. Maybe they could even schedule you for an induction?
  • @stardustskies - thanks for confirming that I’m not getting upset over nothing… yeah, I plan to talk to the midwives/doctors directly during my next checkup, will see what they say
  • @kd08 I hear you! I've been waking up super early too. Nursery nowhere near ready yet here as we decided to cram in a couple of visits to see friends / visitors staying with us... Kinda wish we'd kept all the to the 2nd tri tbh but she well!

@bumpedup thank you! That sounds like a really helpful list and I wouldn't have thought of all those things. Appreciate you sharing your wisdom !!

@stardustskies I hear you. 32 wks 6 days now and definitely slowing down and feeling big. Eek. I'm glad it's the time of year where all shoes are slip on shoes 😂

@sacha0088 gosh you poor thing, I'm sure with waiting for results from another medical concern, the news about the locums was pretty jarring. I don't know if this helps at all but I'm actually thinking of switching providers at the minute, from one where my OB would be pretty much guaranteed to be the person delivering (as there are only 2 at her practice) to one where there are 10 doctors and midwives and it could be any of them. And I don't know any of them yet and probably won't meet them all. It's normal to me because that's what it would be like where I'm from; and I've heard that 90% of the care on the day comes from the nurses anyway. That might not help at all but just wanted to offer another perspective, I feel like it can sometimes be hard to tell what makes the biggest difference on the day, and for me personally the switch is worth it because the hospital is nice and it's close 🤷🏻‍♀️

So maybe it won't matter too much if it's a different OB. Having said that, I'd be upset about the switcheroo, too! X
  • Placenta: If you’re not a FTM, what did you decide to do with your placenta? If you’re a FTM, what’s your plan? I’m currently 36 weeks and not quite sure what I plan to do yet. Would love to hear your experiences/plans. Thanks!

I live overseas, and it has to be thrown away. It is illegal here to keep any part of the placenta or cord!
  • @sacha0088 First, I completely understand your frustration with the possibility of having someone you never met deliver your baby. I know for me personally, it’s comforting to have someone I’ve been able to build a relationship with over the past 39 weeks. There’s a possibility a midwife I met twice will deliver my baby and I’m crossing my fingers it isn’t her. Yes the main goal is to have a healthy baby and you will remember the experience of meeting him/her most but you want to be comfortable, I don’t blame you. As far as the placenta thing goes, I’m planning to keep mine and have it dehydrated then put into pill form. I know some hospitals use it for their own benefit and some allow you to donate it.
  • It's July!!! Happy birth month to you all and thank you for all the questions and answers on this group/thread 💕 as a FTM I have appreciated this group sooo much.
This wasn't really a question 😂 I guess my only question is how's everyone doing?!
  • Made it to 36 weeks with twins! Prodromal labor and  2 cm dilated means this mama is officially OFF DUTY! Long naps and giving my nesting lists to DH. This might be the best part of this whole pregnancy 😂
Anybody else expecting twins? Our youngest is 13 months so I think we’re in for a real treat 😅
  • I told him flat out I loved his expression
  • @knottied99f1127d5b473ea not expecting twins but my friend just had twins and she has a 3 year old, and somehow it's all working! Wishing you an extra dose of mama superpowers for the early getting-used-to-it weeks though!

My OB apt is Thursday this week and I hope I'm at least a little bit dilated to account for all the cramps and contractions I'm getting, but at 37 wks & FTM of 1 I reckon I probably have a few weeks to go.

Q for all you STMs (or FTMs if you already had your baby!).. did you feel any different the day you went into labor? Apart from anything obvious like waters breaking, I mean :) before that, was it like any other day?
  • @knottie_name I was 40+2 with my first. Nothing unusual. Woke up early like 4am wanting a snack. Got out of bed, went to the kitchen, water broke. Good luck to you! I'm 37+3 today and am counting down the days.

    Good luck!!
  • @knottie_name
With my first, I had a test in school that evening. Went to class but was feeling a bit off. Thought I was coming down with a bug or something. Finished my test and then headed home; skipped the rest of class. A few hours later I was in labor. He was born at 39+2.
