Re: Product Spotlight - Maternity Clothes

  • I had my baby at home and spent most of the labor in my most comfy sweats, a sports bra, and an XL t-shirt. When it was time to jump in the pool I finished taking my pants off (they were around my ankles at the time because… nevermind) and ripped my shirt off.
@pangolindrome I remember at one point after transition I was hot and sweaty. Not sure if it was from hormonal hijinks or from the effort of laboring + pushing. My doula put a cool washcloth on my forehead and it felt quite nice.

  • @whitta1015 omg I was shaking uncontrollably too 😐 I was told it was a combo of hormones regulating and also epidural side effects. So strange.
  • @kboydbowman I just got a motif one in the mail through aeroflow today it was covered by my insurance so I figured why the heck not. I just came back from the Chiropractor too so not sure what's making everything feel better but I don't hurt as much. I didn't use one with the other kids so not sure what to look for in one. Just giving this to you so you know insurance covers them sometimes.
  • @laj0217
I don't have one, which is why I was asking for recommendations lol.  I think what you're talking about is not as much support as I'm looking toward though.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I am using this belly band and I have no complaints other than if I don't line up through velcro right it'd scratchy.

  • @kboydbowman I had one like the one @rebornlotus linked, and unfortunately it wasn't enough support for me last time. This time around I grabbed a different one to help with the pain in my thighs (possible SPD) and it makes a world of difference so far. I've had it a couple days and I'm very happy with it. Just be sure to measure correctly so it fits you appropriately.

  • @kboydbowman I use the AZmed belly band off Amazon. First pregnancy and this one. Very supportive and comfortable.
  • @kboydbowman I'm planning to get a belly support band because last time I could stand for about 5 mins before I had to sit. I felt so pathetic. Then I can at least go for walks and get a bit of exercise. One thing to keep in mind that my chiropractor mentioned is to not wear it too much. Otherwise it acts like a cast and the muscles it's supporting get weaker, therefore making you need it more. My sister wore hers all the time but found out that it was restricting her pelvis from relaxing and opening as she got closer to labor so then she had to stop wearing it all together the last few weeks. Still look into one though. I'm going to borrow one from my PT to test it out and then buy one if I like it. I can let you know how it is.
  • @babywiik That's such a good reminder for those who haven't used one before! Thanks for mentioning that!

  • @babywiik Do you know how much the recommendation is to use it? I would guess "put it on when you really need it" like for exercising and maybe towards the end of the work day, especially if you stand a lot?
  • Not sure if anyone is looking for bathing suit recommendations but I ordered this one and it looks so cute on! For reference, I'm 5'3" and 120lbs at 24 wks. pregnant. C cup.

  • Ordered this maternity top from Amazon, and I love it! Wore it out to dinner tonight. Highly recommend it, the material is super comfortable:

I feel so much more confident in my pregnant body than I did pre-pregnancy. Maybe it's because I'm not trying to hide certain parts of my body, and instead, I'm flaunting it. I actually prefer form-fitting clothes that show off the bump, whereas pre-pregnancy, I would opt for looser-fitting clothes. I just hope this newfound self-confidence continues after pregnancy!
  • @bigworldlittleg I totally get what you mean. The bump looks so cute and I also prefer form-fitting tops on me otherwise the tops look a little sack-like if they flare out on the bottom. I also like this top you linked! I used to have one just like it with those flowy sleeves years ago and it was one of my favourites :)
  • @pangolindrome I'm not for sure. I think its like you said, wear it when you really need it. One thing that gets hard for me is having to stand and cook dinner at the end of the day. So I'm thinking I'll wear it then, if I'm out walking, getting groceries, etc then I'll try to go without the rest of the time.
  • I have to rave a bit! Check out the plus sized sections for clothes. I typically wear a medium for tops but could get a large in plus sized styles and they fit awesome! I'm so excited!
  • @bigworldlittleg I’m right there with you! Not hiding my belly has been the very best part of pregnancy!
  • Old Navy's sale ends tomorrow! I just ordered another set of things now that I know their stuff fits me well :) and a sports nursing bra to wear for labor.
  • Ok. So I have larger breasts. 40dd or ddd so I need an underwire support for a swimsuit. Not having any luck in the maternity world finding something. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m thinking I might need a bikini top and a maternity bottom. I prefer sun dresses and one pieces though. Any idea
  • @chelsraec
I am not overly endowed in the chest area, but I got a maternity bottom (from Old Navy) that goes up over my belly and then ordered a separate swim top in a size larger. Hoping it works out for the rest of this summer. And maybe will even work out after pregnancy since the top isn't maternity?
  • @mnmomma84 thank you for the suggestion! I ended up doing just that. I have a trip coming up. So I got swim bottoms from ocean lily, an underwire top from lands end and a rash guard from target because I feel more comfortable
    with more fabric lol
  • @chelsraec
    have you checked out Shein?
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @kboydbowman I’ve been avoiding shein bc I’ve heard terrible things about the quality of the clothing. Did you get something swimwear from shein?
  • mk2022xmk2022x member
@chelsraec I have a couple shein maternity suits!! Happy with the quality. One is definitely geared toward later pregnancy (bottoms have a much wider hip) so just check reviews - I’ve found those more helpful than size charts.
  • @mk2022x do you have an underwire in any of the shein suits?
  • I got like 10 swimsuits from shein that work!! They definitely won't last more than a year or 2, but they really don't need to either, you know?? Some have underwire and some do not, it really just depends on what you get. But they are all super cheap. I don't think they spent more than $10 on any one suit. And some of them were like $5.  Plus they have free returns so if you get one and don't like it you can just send it back

  • I’m struggling with swim suits too… no luck on my end yet. Swim season is like a week away I’m starting to stress about it lol.
  • mk2022xmk2022x member
    @chelsraec no, no underwire
  • I ordered this tankini and I haven't had the time to try it even though it arrived on the 21st. Oregon has finally been warming up so I have SOME hopes for this weekend <3

@kboydbowman Thank you. I need to make sure it fits, but I have great hopes for it! I am so anxious about swimwear shopping that it took me weeks to press the button.
  • I can't recall if this was discussed or not, maybe on the questions thread?? But, labor/delivery gowns...worth it or skip it? I found one that has a button up back and front, but would be my own clothing item. On one hand I don't want to get down with the super starchy feeling hospital garment, but then having to wash my own is a downside...
  • @mnmomma84 half the time and especially at the end I didn't wear anything 😅 I'd buy a comfy gown/pj's that work well for nursing and will be gentle and loose on your belly/butt/vaginal area. I wore maternity leggings and those were comfy enough, albeit a bit too warm at times. I wore the hospital gown also for a bit but got really tired of buttoning the buttons on their gowns. I've since bought a simple, cotton robe that I'll plan to bring with. Easy to wrap around baby when doing skin to skin and easy access for nursing.
  • @mnmomma84 Maybe it was over in October, but some people suggested wearing a nursing sports bra instead and maybe loose underwear (or a diaper if you are leaking) if you prefer, and some said just go naked, and another opinion was to wear a nightgown.
It blew my mind that hospital gowns weren’t the only option and since I hate them, I am planning on going the sports bra route. Maybe an oversized t-shirt.
  • Hi friends! A lovely girl I went to school with who is an influencer as a side gig has a PinkBlushMaternity code for 25% off your order! LYSSIEELOU25
  • @pangolindrome
Right?! I know there was something about this somewhere and it blew my mind too that I can bring my own garment?! I'm pretty sure I didn't go naked while laboring, and that I wore the hospital gown. But remember feeling awkward about wearing it after everything was done and it was time to settle in and bond. I also found a nice nursing gown that looks like the top is a little bit like a spandex-y nursing bra, it was on sale for less than $30 so grabbed it for after.
Also, if anyone has hit up Old Navy recently, the whole website is pretty much 20% off. I was getting a cart full of shorts and tees for my 8 year old and a maternity/nursing pajama set *might* have jumped in the cart, also :)
  • @mnmomma84 highly recommend a robe. I labored in hospital stuff but after birth switched to a robe. Made skin to skin and nursing great and I wore it when I was able to walk and get water and what not. Mind you, I was only in the hospital 24 hours bc I gave birth at height of pandemic
  • I ordered this maternity swimsuit and it's super cute!

It does a pretty good job of keeping the jugs secure (which is always a problem for me, maternity suit or not). The little padded inserts pretty much only cover up the nipple lol, but the actual chest area is large enough that it's okay. And ultimately, the world will just need to be ready for some cleavage!

Love the tankini that @pangolindrome shared! I'm going to order that one as well.

@bigworldlittleg That is super cute! If I wasn't too lazy to hike up a whole swimsuit after using the restroom, I would probably go for one of those.
Please let us know how you like the tankini! The one consistent thing people say it's that it may be better for smaller-chested ladies (like me) and I would agree, so maybe order up a size unless you already ordered... although the bottoms might be a little big then. Online shopping is so tricky.
