@mk2022x my recent maternity clothing splurge was one of the 3-in-1 winter jackets. It has two different zip-in panels, one for pregnancy and the other to make room for a baby in a carrier. I figure, as long as it's a decent jacket it will be useful for quite a long time, and I decided that justifies the price. :P I haven't gotten it yet, but it's returnable if I decide I don't like it, so I figured it was worth a shot! I'm trying to go with less pricey stuff for bras, tops, maternity pants, etc. on the assumption that they'll be more temporary.

I have the nose Frida and a bulb.. the bulb was easier for me because baby fought me so much I had to hold her down to suck her nose. I felt I couldnt get as good suction with frida bc she was squirming so much. But if she didn't put up a fight I think I would have liked it better.
  • Is it normal for baby to be more active some days and less on others? I was feeling him all the time(lots of kicks these last two weeks even with anterior placenta) and today he is quiet. I am at work though and busy on my feet does that have an effect on baby? Am surely just worrying for nothing but please let me know if your babes have busier and calmer days too!!
  • @mtlpeanut I'd say yes, definitely. I also don't feel him as much when I'm up, moving around myself. I feel him the most at about 3pm in the afternoon, and as soon as I settle down for the night. But some days, he is definitely more active than others.
  • @mtlpeanut you won't have to start doing kick counts until the third trimester, mostly because baby can put themselves in different positions right now that are harder to feel.

With that said, moving around does usually put baby to sleep so you'll end up feeling them more at night when you're still. If you're worried, drink some ice water or juice and take a few minutes to sit down and let baby wake up and get active. If that doesn't help you can always call your doctor and be seen.

I remember with my first, I was feeling less movement around 32 weeks asked to be checked out. They gave me a giant ice water and told me to drink it and hooked me up to a non stress test. Baby decided to dance the jig for them and I was sent home. It definitely is scary though not knowing what's normal.

I would guess that our babies are like us. Even if they are growing and in a limited space, I would guess they have lazier days and more active days. I will keep the ice water in mind!

Question: If stretch marks show up (especially for FTMs), is it usually around the "pop" or later?
I know it is greatly determined by genetics, and my mom and my sister were both fortunate - they hardly had any (if they did) and I don't think any remain - so I know I might not... but I am still wondering.
  • @pangolindrome
I'm no expert, but I'd say yes - definitely more to do with genetics so if your mom and sister were good you might be, too. My mom didn't get many with me. However, I noticed mine coming in after week 23/24 in certain areas (above my belly button and inner thighs). And I've collected a few extra each pregnancy in those areas. It's likely different for everyone, though, just based on your genetics, body, and how you're carrying.
  • Maybe this was asked before and I missed it. What's the difference between RLP and "lightening crotch?" I must've gone through my last two pregnancies thinking they were the same thing but my RLP is more on the sides of my stomach where the abs are separating. I don't know that I've experienced "lightening crotch."
  • Lightning crotch is sudden stabbing/shooting pains in your cervix or vagina.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @mnmomma84 if you experience it you'll know. It's like a zap to your cervix. I only got it a couple times with my first. I don't think at all with my second, and this one has done it a couple times.
  • @pangolindrome First Time around, I got a few small stretch marks starting around 18 weeks, and by the end of the pregnancy I was a full-blown tiger. I don't notice any new ones yet (23w5d), but the old ones are definitely still there, just faded. You're a bit smaller and appear to be in relative good shape, so it's possible you'll only get a few, if any at all. Genetics are the main culprit, so you may avoid them pretty much altogether. 🤞🏻

  • @mnmomma84 with my first, lightning crotch felt like a sudden sharp shooting pain from the crotch area down my inner thigh and sometimes even past my knee. It was brief but stopped me in my tracks for sure. I recall it being in the last month or so of pregnancy though because that’s when the baby was big and pressing on the nerves to cause that shooting pain.
  • @mtlpeanut moving around will absolutely result in less movement - partly because you won't feel all the movement, and partly because the movement rocks your baby to sleep. One of the sleep books I was reading made a point that babies are actually born with really backwards sleeping habits. It's partly because there's no day/night until they're born, but partly because we rock them to sleep all day long while we move around, then they bounce around all night, bored because nothing is happening! I've also read that fetal movement can pick up as your blood sugar goes up or down, which is another reason for movement right after a meal and at night. That said, I'm in the exact same boat on week 21 - I feel tons of movement some days and less on other days. I'm trying not to let it worry me, for all the reasons that have been listed here by others. :)

I’ve been having what I thought was lightening crotch because it’s sharper but then lasts for a bit? It’s like a Charlie horse cramp in my pelvic floor… hard to explain. Tends to happen if I’ve been sitting for longer than an hour…anyone else experience this?? I’m going to talk to my PT tomorrow and my doctor on Thursday…
  • This is more silly than anything but does anyone else have a wiggly linea nigra?  :D The ones they show in articles are always so straight and I looked down and mine is wiggly/crooked lol
  • @ashking0922 I was just realizing the other day I don't have one this time. I had one with my first two, and nothing this time.
  • @ashking0922 I don't have one (yet?), but last time mine wasn't perfectly straight. It kind of skewed a bit to the side as it reached my belly button.
    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87 yeah mine is straight up to the belly button but once it goes above it wiggles off to the side lol mine is faint so far but everything in general is steadily getting darker
  • I had my anatomy scan today and they told me baby's weight was in the 7th percentile and they were sending me to a specialist for follow up. Have have any of you dealt With this?
  • I don't have one and I didn't have one last time so maybe I'm not going to get one?

@rebornlotus not me, but my both of my best friend’s boys were on the small side. Extra ultrasounds towards the end to monitor weight, with a goal of 5lbs at birth to avoid NICU. They both came in at 5lbs and some ounces and were able to go home with her. They are still both on the smaller side, though. One is 3 and one is 6 months.
  • I don't have one and I didn't have one last time so maybe I'm not going to get one?
It's possible you won't get one, but I remember not getting one until closer to 30 weeks last time, maybe even a little beyond that.
    DD 10/2019
  • The linea negra thing didn't show up for me until mid third trimester. And I remember it took a while for it to go away post-partum.
  • @rebornlotus stressful! I hope all goes well with the specialist. I've been with a specialist for different reasons, but I can say it's definitely where you want to be if there's any question about the baby's health. The equipment is way better and everyone you talk to will have extra training to support you and baby. Remember, percentiles aren't everything - babies come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and often even the extremes are totally healthy and okay. I will keep my fingers firmly crossed that everything looks okay, and that you're able to keep breathing and resting and trying to take care of yourself through the stress of waiting for that appointment.

  • @rebornlotus my son was <5%. We went to MFM weekly for scans. He was born at 37.2 and weighed 4lb 4oz. We ended up in NICU because he was so small. It ended up being due to a placental abnormality that went undetected. We spent 5 days in NICU then another 3 on home phototherapy but he's a crazy, rambunctious 6 year old.

@rebornlotus I was super nervous when my doctor told me that my velementous cord insertion might lead to baby being small. But my doctor said something very comforting to me. (I’m paraphrasing do don’t quote me!!!)
“It’s an average. 10% of all babies born have to be in that less than 10th percentile. So if 100 babies were born then 10 of them are small”… That helped me feel less alone.

My due date is September 18, can anyone help with a possible date of conception? Also does anyone else's back just ache like all the time??? I work about 7 hours a day on my feet but it seems when i come home and sit down and get back up my lower back will literally just ache. I'm 22 weeks 2 days, i have an anterior placenta so i don't feel baby much but i can't wait until i do. I get little waves so i know she's moving in there
  • Hi knottie and welcome.  Please stop by the introductions thread and introduce yourself. Assuming you have a 28 day cycle, you likely conceived around Christmas Day, plus or minus a day.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

  • @knottie standing too much makes my back ache as well. Belly is getting bigger and heavier. Stomach muscles may be separating a bit so not doing as good of a job which puts all the strain on your back. Not to mention balance is thrown off so to compensate, posture is terrible. I had a ton of low back/sciatic pain with my first. This time I've been seeing a chiropractor regularly and it's helped a lot! There are also stretches you can do to release the tension from your muscles so they don't get so tight. Physical therapists are awesome for that.
  • @pangolindrome I got stretch marks across my lower belly with DS. Mine are lighter than the rest of my skin, so I can't see them unless I'm in good light and look for them. This time the old ones are starting to show again as my belly grows, but I couldn't see them for years when my skin wasn't being stretched. I have new ones on the upper outer edge my boobs. It's possible I just didn't notice them last time, but the ladies are definitely larger now than they ever were with DS.
My mom had very dark stretch marks. Not sure why mine are different than hers. I look just like her in every other way.
  • @melyrae I thought you'd like to see this. One of the ig accounts I follow had a post about the velementous cord insertion

@jhysmath interesting!!! (But gross pics lol)
  • @jhysmath lol I thought that was stained glass art at first😂
  • @melyrae I apologize, I just attached the link, I didn't realize it actually posted the ig post.
  • @jhysmath I am so fascinated and grossed out right now.
  • At bedtime, I feel like it's hard to breathe and my heart starts pounding really fast when I lie on my left side. It takes a few minutes and goes away when I switch to my back (propped up a bit) or my right side, but it still feels strange. Has anyone experienced this before?
  • @babez_mom Yes, I've definitely experienced this! It also seems to happen when I'm lying on my left side, and it goes away after a few minutes (even if I stay on my left side). It must have something to do with that particular position, and organs shifting in a certain way.
  • Hi, I just found out I’m pregnant. I believe I’m about 5 weeks. I just spotted a little bit yesterday morning and this morning. It’s a small amount of blood, not enough to go through my panties, but of course, I’m still a little concerned.

I read that around 1 in 4 women spot with normal pregnancies, but what I’m wondering is if I did miscarry, how long will it take a pregnancy test to show negative? I don’t want to tell my partner until I’m sure I am or am not pregnant.

    Thanks so much!
  • @__erin__ hi! It's quite common to have some spotting early on. If it's dark blood, it's old and could be from implantation. If you're worried, give your Dr a call😊 if you're 5 weeks now your most likely due sometime early next year. Head over to January 2023 or Feb 2023 (whichever you're due date falls in). You'll probably feel more at home with them as you'll be in the same state if pregnancy. Best of luck!
