@ kiki047 none of mine are refrigerated, I was super surprised that they weren't, but I get to do a lot of mixing medications. Yay... I will not complain because they were free.

*lurking* @mambo5-2. Oh I have taken either stims or progesterone shots everywhere-- in the bathroom at 2 different weddings, hotels, parents/friends houses secretly, etc. It's totally fine. Live your life! Also FYI-- the stims come refrigerated, but they just need to be kept under 87 degrees Fahrenheit, so as long as its not super hot they can be left out for a while.
Well, waiting on scheduling but, another d&c for retained tissue. My OB had me go to the hospital for their radiology which the perk (haha) was that the radiologist looked at the u/s immediately and the tech was able to tell me there was retained tissue. My OB then called, she didn’t have the full write up yet, so unclear how much. But they will have radiology be part of the d&c this time to make sure without a doubt. She wants me to keep the RE appt for Monday, that’s actually the colleague she reached out to for a 2nd opinion. They only hiccup is that the hospital has an anesthesiology shortage right now, so she said the RE has different blocks of OR time than they do and may be able to get me in faster. What a f*cking mess.
@anniemarie887 argggg I'm glad they found problem and have a plan to put this out of it's misery once and for all, but why not order an ultrasound/second opinion sooner? This seems like it has dragged out waaay tooo loong. I'm so sorry that you're still dealing with this.

@bearmomma1 so another d&c was brought up a month ago, and then I had a pretty hefty drop. And a week of bleeding and I think we just hoped this was the “end”. I respect my OB, and I did talk to one of the others in the practice too, and didn’t push about doing anything else. Generally speaking I am a very low interventions person (jokes on me now with all this TTGP and needing apparently all the interventions). I don’t love the idea of getting another one considering January wasn’t that long ago, but we talked through benefits and risks, and she said I should not worry about the short time span between them.
@anniemarie887 oh man, i feel you so much on that low-interventions jokes-o-me thing. i have also always been reflexively low intervention, which i think mostly makes me want to cry when i look back at my TTGP saga and at basically every single moment at which I had to make a decision and opted conservatively.

I am doing this on my own. Left ovary and fallopian tube removed due to cyst/necrosis just after birth. Right ovary and tube still purport to function.
Began TTC in Aug '18 @ age 35
5 or 6 (or 7?!) cycles using frozen donor sperm, ICI. All BFN
Mar-Jun '19 IUIs, all BFN
Began process of referral for RE in spring of '19, blood tests confirm low AMH (.54) but all else is good.
May '19 HSG shows open tube, but ultrasound suggests fibroids
MRI in June '19 confirms two large fibroids, one growing through wall of uterus
In June '19 I move from California to Oregon, disrupting my insurance, referrals, etc. 5 months spent piecing it all back together.
Nov. '19 attempted myomectomy (vaginal approach) failed. 2nd surgery using laparoscopic method in Jan '20 is successful.
April '20 --> June '20, natural IUIs, all BFN.
July? saline ultrasound and bubble test demonstrate open tube
July '20 clomid cycle cancelled for thin lining
Aug-Oct, 3 femara cycles, all BFN
RE referral. While waiting to set up an appointment Nov-Jan,I continue with natural cycles and ICI, using a known donor, BFN...
Jan '21 more bloodwork, AMH is worse (.30), FSH high albeit not catastrophic at 13.2. hysteroscopy all good. "looks cozy!" says the RE.
Feb '21, injectables (menopur, novarel), iui, BFN (doc said the frozen donor sperm sample had the "best numbers she'd ever seen!")
Mar '21, injectables, iui cancelled due to lack of follicles, converted to at home-insem. BFN
May '21, first IVF round cancelled due to cyst.
July '21 IVF: standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 7; 6 days of stims. 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilize, 4 made it to blast. 3 are 4AB, 1 is 4BB. @tryingktogku just wanted to jump in and bust a myth: BCP doesn’t cause fertility issues, but it does mask them so you don’t get to find out until you start to try to have kids!
@anniemarie887 yea I understand that completely. I wasn't trying to question your dr or your choices. Just wanting this nightmare to be over for you. I wonder if your week of bleeding was your body trying again to rid the retained tissue, and maybe it got some of it out, but that tiny bit left is being darned stubborn! I hope the d&c gets scheduled asap.
@acleverusername ooooooh that’s an interesting idea. I always blamed my 10 years of being on BC for messing up my cycles.

My BCP are making me so nauseous. Bleh. I had no issues with BCP when I was a teenager at least not that I remember but I started BCP with a never ending period that made me want to cry at 13, actually I did cry, in the OB's office, during a transvaginal ultrasound to try to figure out what was wrong. So maybe I was just already feeling awful when I started them then.

@mambo5-2 i'm sorry. bcp are the worst. it's prob too late for this switch but in the hopefully unlikely event that you ever have to repeat this process, you might want to ask your RE about using another delivery method? I switched from pills to the nuvaring after i wound up with a cyst last year. nuvaring delivers the hormones via a more direct method. when you swallow a pill, the results, as i understand it, are more systemic. i for one get all kinds of side effects when i take pills, but my only notable side effect on the ring is loss of sex drive.

I sent my OB an email asking for a favor since she is close with this RE. I told her yesterday I felt high maintenance, and she laughed and was like absolutely not. So now I am actually being high maintenance, and basically asking her to please fix this.
I know everyone is on the brink of burn out, but I also know she has space in her calendar sooner than august. So much of fertility stuff can’t be scheduled out months in advance. Put me in the spot that’s normally for some other appointment, just this one time.

@anniemarie887 I heart aches for you. I really hope your OB and pull some strings. In the meanwhile, if you're interested, I can connect you with a friend in MD who started treatment and SD and then switched to CCRM. CCRM is a highly regarded clinic throughout the US, so ... while it might not be the RPL expert that your OB had recommended... it might be worthwhile to consult with them?
@bearmomma1 totally get how it's natural to blame BCP (or other reproductive control methods) for wonky cycles. Here's something to consider... when we first having cycles, we definitely aren't taught to figure out what's normal and what's not. We're either told that "it's normal... your body is still adjusting" or "it's teenager hormones" etc. And then we get on birth control and don't come off it until we're ready to start having children.
Even if a person has a health condition that causes anovulation, the birth control cycle can still make it look like they are having regular menstrual cycles.
Anyways, if this journey has taught me anything, is that I will be teaching my daughter to learn about their body before going on any contraception so that they're aware of challenges she may face when trying to conceive. But, hey, they a ways away.
@acleverusername that is a very interesting perspective! My RE diagnosed me with Post-Pill PCOS and said it was due to being on the pill I was on. So when I got my first period when I was like 11 it was super heavy and my mom took me to the doctor and they put me in Diane-35 (it’s a higher dose combo pill NOT recommended for long term use) and I was on it with no withdrawal bleeds (because I was instructed to take it that way) for ten years. And so my RE said I fit the diagnostic criteria for post-pill PCOS but that there is not enough data whether or not the body sorts itself out over time or if it causes the condition for life….
If I am ever blessed to have a daughter one day I would be very hesitant to let her go on BCP knowing you can do FAM and that the PCOS does have a hereditary component!
@anniemarie887 my heart goes out to you! FX Monday is the last time you’ll have to go through that procedure ever again and you’ll be slotted in for a treatment time before august for sure
@mambo5-2 I’m sorry the BCP is making you nauseated! It does that to me too so I usually take it with dinner or before bed and I find that helps! It was doing it on an empty stomach in the am that I think was the issue for me!
@tryingktogku I hope your doctor provided you with some research to back up her claim of “pill induced PCOS.” I can tell you that I’ve looked into PCOS thoroughly because I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 25. I don’t have to expound how familiar I am with PubMed, as I’m sure my frequent source-citing and quotes from research articles speak for themselves, but I have never once come across anything resembling mention of PCOS caused by prolonged use of PCOS.
I’m not a doctor, obvi take my statement with a grain of salt. But I’ve also been “mistreated/misdiagnosed” by doctors enough that I don’t take anything they say at face value without asking for evidence-based research to back up what they are diagnosing me with and why.
@acleverusername I imagine you slamming your fist in the table and staying "SHOW ME THE FACTS!"
Don't mind me

@acleverusername I 100% believe that this was not cause by the pill but rather masked as our healthcare has a bandaid solution for most things (ie oh wow an 11 years old period is lasting far longer and is far heavier than normal let’s give her BCP instead of investigating why this is happening) and instead of getting to the root cause but alas that is my “official diagnosis” and to be frank I take what my clinic says with a grain of salt since they were INSISTENT that I do my progesterone test on CD21 even though according to my OPKS I though I ovulated on CD 20 lol
I am grateful for this community for the emotional support but also particularly for individuals like your self who are a wealth of information too!

@tryingktogku yeah, that’s exactly it… a bandaid explanation just to put something on the books. It makes me SO MAD. I would rather be told “the cause of PCOS is yet unknown” than “BCP caused your PCOS.”

@mambo5-2.

I generally think that Verywell articles are well written and they quote their sources, so check this out: https://www.verywellfamily.com/can-birth-control-harm-fertility-or-cause-infertility-1959939

@mambo5-2 I’m sorry the BCP is making you nauseated! It does that to me too so I usually take it with dinner or before bed and I find that helps! It was doing it on an empty stomach in the am that I think was the issue for me!
I’m not a doctor, obvi take my statement with a grain of salt. But I’ve also been “mistreated/misdiagnosed” by doctors enough that I don’t take anything they say at face value without asking for evidence-based research to back up what they are diagnosing me with and why.

@tryingktogku yeah, that’s exactly it… a bandaid explanation just to put something on the books. It makes me SO MAD. I would rather be told “the cause of PCOS is yet unknown” than “BCP caused your PCOS.”
