The Great Name Thread

Re: The Great Name Thread

  • We're thinking maybe Brynn/Bryn. But I'm really stressing over it and super indecisive so who knows what I'll think a month from now.

  • I doubt we'll have a name before I'm around 38 weeks lol. We can't agree on anything! My favorites right now are Aden and Dillon, but my husband hates names that can be spelled multiple ways. Whatever, dude. Our first son has a letter as his middle name and we are considering doing that again.

  • @binxybaby don't you love when husbands have opinions on spelling? Mine is a horrible speller and told me Caleb is not a good name because it should be spelled with a K and it'll be confusing for people. I told him to google spelling of the name Caleb (he's not going to be a Kardashian here) so he did, was proven wrong, laughed and then said "ok, I'll think about it." EYEROLL!

  • Ugh, I’m stuck on names. Nothing is good. I’m starting to worry that I’m going to give this monster a name just to fill out paperwork instead of one that I actually like.
  • @Tulips29 It's infuriating. He says it's "rule number 3" on baby naming. Is there a rule number 1 or 2? No. Sometimes i want to slap him. He's so annoying.
    Pregnancy TickerSaveSave
  • @fluteling do you have any names you like or are deciding between? I feel like we're also undecided still so I keep saying the possible options in my head and writing them out to see how it sounds to me.

  • Name update: it’s a girl not a boy! We love the names Vienna and Eva. Eva pronounced eeva, but we can’t decide on one!
  • @tulips99 nope. There are no strong contenders.
  • @binxybaby *any* name can be spelled differently. Look how many people replace vowels with “y” or change the endings to “eigh” 😆 Pretty sure (without looking it up but this was a family name for us) Aden is a Hebrew name originally and Aiden is a Celtic name so the spellings are different for a reason there.
  • We also love the name Aurora for our little girl (seems popular right now), and have other celestial ideas too.  We've been calling her Nova and I think it's pretty adorable, I also love Orion and my baby daddy loves Freya (which I do think is beautiful).  We met in Portland and I think that would be a cool name but then he reminded me we can never move there lol.  I don't know how we'll ever decide though...

@shoarmie99 one my friends named her son Orion! I love all your name choices. I’ve looked at celestial names but couldn’t get DH on board with anything I like. I love Lyra.
  • @shoarmie99 I love the name Freya. If i was having a girl it be at the top of my list.
  • @shoarmie99 Freya is a nice name.
  • We are about 95% sure we’re having a boy. My husband admitted he dislikes pretty much every boy name, which is fine because he named our last one so it’s my turn anyway 😆 My absolute favorite name is Frederik, also very much like Hugo. We have a Scandinavian last name but are primarily German and Irish by heritage, our other names are along those lines. We usually go pretty nerdy or literary with the middle name, leaning towards Caspian for this one.

If it does end up being a girl we love Agatha and have no ideal middle name yet.
  • We’ve made no real progress on names. Or at least I haven’t. DH is set on Elaina Kate nn Lainey. I thought I loved it but now I feel unsure and I’m going between Lainey, Maren, Rylie, and maybe Mason? But none feel right.

  • @shoarmie99 Love the name Nova. Really pretty. Freya is lovely too

  • My DH and I love the name Jett Ryan! Ryan is his middle name as well. We have also considered Carter Ryan (Carter is my maiden name) and Vance Ryan.

    I love Carter Ryan!

  • I think we are officially down to some version of a name that gives us Laney as a nn (so either Layne or Elaina/Alaina) or Maren.  But I don't know.  We told our boys (3 and 5 within the next few weeks) our choices and they grabbed on to Alaina.

  • My husband's favorite name is Fletcher. Something about the FL feels really...heavy? What are your thoughts on Fletcher?
    Pregnancy TickerSaveSave
  • @binxybaby Fletcher seems more like a last name IMO.  But, there was a teacher at a school I taught at named Fletcher and he went by Fletch.  It really fit him and was a fun name.  So I think it could go either way!
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @binxybaby I think fletcher is cute but I agree with @bww_0331 that it is more of a last name to me. In fact when I hear it I picture a frat boy who goes by his last name. However, that doesn’t make it a bad name and naming a baby is such a personal thing I think it really matters what you think of it.
  • I like Fletcher. The FL sound might sound heavy or be difficult for a small one to pronounce at first, but my little dude has a similar sound in his name and he gets by fine. I vote yes! But also go with your gut.
  • Any suggestions for a first name to go with a middle name Robin (after my grandmother) for a girl. My current top name is Cassandra, but my partner didn’t seem sold on it. Thank you :)
  • Boy names are so hard. They're all so traditional, and/or I know a person who has ruined the name for me. My current list is:
    James (husband not a fan)
John (both OK with this one)
Jack (or could just go with John)
Elliot (both OK with this one)
Liam (but husband's childhood friend's son is named Liam)
Dagny (traditionally a girl's name but kind of unisex? I dunno. I like that it means "day", because his sister's name means "dawn".)
Riley (a family name but my girl cousin is named Reilly so not really on the table)

I had a dream we named him William, but that's odd because I know 3 people I don't particularly like named William.
  • @mauvelousone I think Jack is super classic. It was a contender for my first.

I did a Google search on names that might go with "dawn" meaning...here's what I came up with:
    - Ciaran/Kieran
    - Cyrus
    - Blake
    - Knox
    - Phoenix

@Tulips29 My sister has a son named karston. You could easily change it to a C.
Charles or Charlie is cute too.
  • @binxybaby Oh, that's exciting!

We can't seem to agree and it's getting frustrating. Hubby really likes Charles/Charlie (I'm not a fan) and I really want Caleb (he used to work with some mean Caleb back in the day...eyeroll). This child will remain nameless.

  • We haven’t talked names since the one conversation we had six weeks ago. I texted DH yesterday to say I’ve come around on his grandfather’s name and his response was “cool!”, end of discussion :| So boy name is something likely involving Marcus and/or Gilbert. I wish he felt more strongly about this. They’re his grandparents! Be excited!
  • All of a sudden out of nowhere (probably because of the state of the world) I decided this baby's name could be Hope and my BF really loves it too.  But is that a lot of weight to put on a little one lol?
  • @marionberry19 can 1 name be first and the other one middle?

@pinkkillersheep I'd prefer my husband doesn't feel strongly so I can just name this child and call it a day.

    @shoarmie99 I really like Hope. I don't think it's putting weight on a baby, it's a pretty name.

  • @Tulips29 I feel guilty the kid is getting my last name (I kept my maiden name when we got married) so I’m placing a lot of importance on him liking the first name. But maybe he just really doesn’t care that much and I’m overthinking it?
  • KFrobKFrob member
@shoarmie99 I think Hope is a very sweet name, and no pressure
  • @Tulips29 unfortunately no. We already have our middle names chosen and both are family names so neither is getting dropped. We are between Aurora Evelyn Reign & Persephone Evelyn Reign.
  • @marionberry19 I love your names
  • @Tulips29
Our first son is named Chase and the link to Paw Patrol has fortunately not been a big deal.  Some kids make the connection, others don't. When they do, its usually just one comment, "oh, like Chase from Paw Patrol!" And then it moves past it pretty quickly. And even still, that is pretty rare.  We still love the name and are glad we picked it. Best of luck picking your little one's name 😊
  • @knottie - I still love Chase...so perhaps if we can't agree we can go back to the original option. It wasn't this hard with the other 2 kids!
