Let's talk..baby names

Re: Let's talk..baby names

  • I had a list of boy names I liked but after sharing it with my husband the only two we're left with are Theo and Ronan. The obvious choice would be to use one as a first name and one as a middle name but I don’t think they really go that well together so we would probably have to come up with something else for the middle.

    Thank you so much for your input! You are all right in that any names now can be misspelled or that others will proactively ask about spelling anyway due to so many variations for different names. I guess it is just one of those things we need to deal with!

    In Spanish if I read Apollo the first words that come to mind are Apollo (a-chicken) and Apoyo (means support). It takes a few seconds or a minute to link it to the right thing :)  Most of my family only speak Spanish so that is why spelling is so important on my side.

    Still trying to convince DH!

    Ps. @mdfarmchick in this case I'm the one vetoeing Finnley  xD (for main name). DH just loves fishing and wants to call the baby "finn". I like it more for a middle name.

  • @bre2022 haha oh well. I love the nickname Finn. I think Apolo is super cute though!

    @bre2022 I like Bennett a lot!!

    @mdfarmchick Ooh I love both!!
  • @bre2022 I would pronounce Apolo like the theater or boxer.  I get your hesitation for the double “L” because of the translation to chicken.  I LOVE the name Mona for a girl, but we took it off our early list because of the translation 🙊

    @mdfarmchick I love Juliana
  • I like Fatima, Rihanna and Serena  :)
  • Welcome @amen-golshid! Please consider introducing yourself in our introductions thread if you haven’t already so we can get to know you better. 🙂
  • @leahrnmom oooh I love them both!
  • We have a couple of Eleanors in my family I think its a beautiful name.
  • We have a Grayson could nickname him Gray.  For our current baby boy to be we are struggling.  His middle name is most likely going to be Gene after my Grandmother.  I like Avery my husband like Ayden.  Naming is hard.
  • @mrs.f.campbell we have 2 girl first names, no middle names. We have 1 boy first name picked out. Since we are having twins, we have to have 2 of each... finding out the gender in a few weeks. I like Ayden, but I've never seen it spelled with a y. That's pretty cool.
  • @leahrnmom oh Charlie is such a sweet name, for a boy or girl. Charlotte is one of my favorite classic names. <3

    @mrs.f.campbell naming is super hard! So much responsibility. Would Ayden be pronounced Aye-den or AID-en? Just curious, my instinct is to say Aye-den when seeing it spelled that way. A close friend of mine is named Aiden but pronounces it that way.
  • @itsme215 thats such a fun idea!

    I could never do that in our family… everyone is so opinionated, we have to just tell them the name, with no hesitation or room for opinions and just say IT IS the name, so they know to shut up if they don’t like it haha.
  • @mdfarmchick hehe this is us too!
  • @leahrnmom I am SO late on this thread, but I LOVE Charlotte Reese!! We found out today we’re having a boy so now I need somebody else to use Reese!
  • @tmartin014 Reese is my daughter’s middle name! I love it 🥰
  • @tmartin014 if you spell it Rhys it’s considered a masculine name!

  • @tmartin014 I actually really like it for a middle name for a boy too. We bought our house from someone with the last name Reese so I think that's even more cool. I like Charles Reese. I don't love Charles but Reese makes up for it!
  • @tmartin014 I think Reese (IMO) works as a boy’s name!
    @itsme215 the bracket is a fun way to get family involved I love that idea! That’s amazing that y’all have 16 names that you actually like. MH shoots down all my choices then never tells me anything 🙄 if baby is a girl, we’re doomed.

  • @dimeadozen it was hard to come up with 16 of each! I’d say there are about 8 of each sex that we really like and then the rest were more “eh I like that we’ll enough, let’s add it”
    we stayed up way too late last night trying to figure them all out and kinda phoned in the last few just to get enough on there.
    And my husband wouldn’t suggest many either but once we started doing this and it became “sports related” he was way more into it. Even started pulling out old yearbooks to get ideas!
  • I think I need to table to name issue for awhile. I must be in a funk, I can't find a boys name I love. Several I don't hate but im just not connecting with anything. I find everyone I meet/see I think about their name. Like watching watching tv, Joey, Chandler Ross, ... nothing.
  • @Katek819 DH and I went back tons. He hated all my names but never gave any suggestions. Stressing made the process less fun. I quit thinking about it. I was scrolling, looking at crib sheets and stumbled across one named “Piper” and there was her name.

    You have plenty of time to think about it and find the perfect name! Tabling it for now might be a good idea. Remove the stress and allow yourself to organically stumble across a great fit.
    We committed to her middle name literally 5 minutes before we discharged from the hospital, so don’t feel rushed! Haha

  •  @Katek819 maybe try using an app like Kinder. Mh and I struggled with discussing names when I was pregnant with our first and using the app made it fun. We haven’t had a single name discussion yet for this baby
  • Oh yeah. We used BabyName which is basically Tinder for baby names like @fuzzywombat mentioned.
  • It's so hard when it's your first baby. I feel like it sets a precedence and shows people your "style". Which kind of unfair because parents have the right to change their style with each baby. But it did make naming our second daughter easier. We did short and sweet with DD1 and I wanted short and sweet with DD2, too. Narrowed down the choices by a lot. :)
  • @starkette agreed!! I call our style “grandma” names lol.
  • @starkette Our kids do not have names of the same "style." I'm guessing people think they don't match, but no one's ever said anything.
  • @bridgiebee82 that is something I totally wouldn’t have even thought of 🤣
