Re: Let's talk..baby names

  • I’m also open to suggestions! I don’t know why it’s so hard to think of but names I like. I also don’t want to name my son the same name I know is somebody else’s. @and_peggy & @paytonpedro send me some names if you got ‘em please

  • @wigglyicecream I don’t think it matters if someone else you know has the name, unless it’s just a horrible association. If it is a name you love 🤷🏻‍♀️ DH and I do not agree on boy names. Heck, we’ve had the same girl name set for 5 years and not been able to use it. It took a lot of time to name our boys. Like, we were in the hospital deciding. And our names have gotten progressively weirder 😆

Here are some names I love that my husband has vetoed before:
    - Ellis
    - Crosby
    - Archer and Ranger (didn’t veto but ds1 is an occupational name so basically any name like that is out)
    - Titus (ds3 was almost this but we disagree on spelling it. I say Titus and he says Tydus. No thanks).
    - Asa
    - Sawyer

  • @and_peggy  so I like Ellis, even as a unisex name. The problem with that is my friend’s last name is Ellis and I do not like her husband and he was obnoxiously visibly disappointed when they found out baby a girl and not a boy so bad association. I do like Archer and I’ve been giving it some thought. Mostly in a joking way since there’s an adult cartoon and the main character’s name is Sterling Archer. A friend of mine kept telling me to name DD Lana after the female lead in the tv show and he would name his son Archer but he didn’t bc he’s a loser lol the only other one I kind of like is Sawyer but SO’s last name is S and I don’t think it would sound right with it
  • @wigglyicecream loling because sterling was a name I suggested tonight and that was so shot down. What‘a your daughter’s name, or if you’re not comfortable sharing, what’s the style? Is it traditional, earthy, eclectic? Trying to get a sense of your style so I don’t just start shooting out random names

  • @and_peggy Her name is Rylie. I don’t mind telling you since you don’t know my last name or any real identifying things. Also I trust you. I doubt a mom of about to be 5 is coming to the east coast to try and hunt me down.

Names I’ve loved in the past

    Liam
    Jameson
    Greyson
    Jason

As far as trying to pay homage to a passed family member all of those names have been taken or I don’t think they would work.

  • @ced45 I think of Caro-LEAN-a, like Carolina Herrera.  Such a beautiful name.  My husband is Peruvian and we are also looking for names that work in English and Spanish… so maybe that is just where my brain automatically goes.

  • @wigglyicecream There are at least two Lincolns at my kids' (small) school. Also a couple of Londons and many Logans. (Logan is a unisex name where I DO think "boy"!) I like Levi because it's an obviously biblical name, but not one of the overly popular ones. So many Elis.
  • @wigglyicecream so I just entered my kids’ names into Google. Just their first name and nothing else and the first hit was my husbands work bio. So I will not be sharing here apparently 😆

But no. I’m definitely not coming to the east coast. I mean, a vacation does sound nice but I don’t have that type of energy 😆

If you love Liam, can you do William as the first name and call him Liam?

    Love Jameson💙

Suggestions: Landon, London, Blake, Reagan, Hayden, Carter, Emerson, Hudson, Colton

  • @wigglyicecream boy names ARE terribly difficult. I monopolized MH’s entire evening last night with a combination of “I actually like this name what do you think” and “this is a ridiculous suggestion but how do you feel about it” so I feel you. Mostly I got “no” which was supremely unhelpful 😡 but I think it’s cus he’s stuck on Killian and I just… do not want to name my kid something with “kill” in it. I’m gonna spend some time with the advanced search feature on NameBerry and find him some Killian-vibe options.

I have ALSO been giving Archer some thought but don’t think we’d be able to get past Sterling Archer either!

  • @and_peggy thanks for the suggestions. I’ll add them to the list. Hayden, Carter and Raegan are all out. SO’s nephew, my good friend’s son and the friend with the last name Ellis’ DD is Raegan.

@mangoandguava you and I must have been on the same wave length last night. I even suggested Killian and thought he same thing. Also it’s the name of a beer. I wish I could get past Sterling Archer bc I do love both names lol
  • We’re struggling with boy names too. We know the middle name will be Thomas but first name? No idea. I have Isaac, Jonah, and Riley on the list but not sure about any of them. For girls, we have Maya, Holly, Lena, Frances (Frankie), and (also) Riley. Still considering Jewel for a middle name.

Our last name is very short. 3 letters/1 syllable. So a lot of 1 syllable first names sound super weird.

    I like Levi a lot @wigglyicecream
It’s pretty popular around here, more popular than Lincoln (which I also like!).
  • @lmaplejc omg! I'm peruvian! <3 do you have any boy names you like? For girls I had shared Isabel, Maia, Emilia, Victoria. Illari is an authentic peruvian name but I found that it can be hard to pronounce in english.

@ced45 I love Camila! And Carolina (timeless! Just never considered it because that was my brother's ex lol).
I really like Emilio but my husband doesn't approve 😕
It is really hard because I like classic, global names, and he likes kind of weird or trendy names lol
  • @mangoandguava what about Kellan? Similar vibe, without the "kill."
  • @mangoandguava or Keegan! I love the name but have a weird association with it
  • @malloryfrommn @wigglyicecream I’ve suggested BOTH!! You must be right about the wavelength for sure. He made a face at Keegan but he liked Kellan. We both have Irish-origin names (despite neither of us having Irish roots that we’re aware of) so we’d kind of like to keep that going even though we don’t have a good reason for it 😂

  • @wigglyicecream stop it. I like Levi. Lol. It’s on my list. Jk. I think you should use it if you like it. Also, I am a fan of having two names… one that I probably like more than the other and deciding for sure when we meet baby. Also I used Liam for a middle name and just told MH I wish we still had that option because I would totally name this one Liam.

MH and I are still arguing boy names… I’m so sure this is boy #4 because we don’t have a name we agree on 🤣

@wigglyicecream with my first, I waffled between a few names until she was born and even then we brought 3 name combos with us to the hospital. I kept thinking "this is the one" and then used it for a week or so and it would slowly become less the one until it wasn't the one at all. Names are hard!

With our second, MH had a clear #1 choice from my long list of possibilities and it wasn't a name I super loved. BUT I sat with it for about a week and after a few days it felt like THE ONE. Undeniably. Her name was much easier than our first.

If this one is a boy....it'll be easy since we only love one boy's name and have had it in mind since DD1. But yes! changing your mind often is SO normal!

I love Levi! Lincoln is cute, too. I do know 2 Lincolns, one boy and one girl.

@paytonpedro Oh, I love Elliott (our MN choice), Jude, Beckett, and Avery! I'd caution against Amos...saw someone post on nameberry about naming their baby Amos and multiple people thought she named him "anus". So she ended up changing his name legally to different choice. So sad because Amos is a lovely name...just close in pronunciation to an unpleasant word.

  • @bre2022 We’ll have to talk Peruvian food!!  You’re girl names are beautiful.  My 3yo’s name is Oscar.  We’re having another boy, and we’re having a hard time agreeing on a name.  We are considering Hugo, Sebastian, Simon, and Julian.

@ced45 I loooove Rafael, but it’s our nephew’s name (he goes by Rafa) so it’s out.  Our girl front runner was Sylvia (nn Sylvie).
  • @ced45 I would pronounce it Caro-leen-a but I think it depends on where you live and as someone with a different name, some people will always pronounce it the opposite of the way you intended. My guess is that if it is important to you guys/her, you will have to correct people.

    @wigglyicecream I love Levi William!
  • Now that we know we're having a girl throwing out boy name into the boy list:
    Arden

    Also, I really like Lincoln

  • @mangoandguava what about Cillian with a C! Or Kian/Cian or Keeran!
  • @lindsaybelle I would be careful with beginning those names with a C. People will think it's supposed to be a soft C, or maybe get really confused and go for the Italian "ch" sound.
  • We have two names picked out, we’re loving Ridley James for a girl and Jameson Luther for a boy! Now we just have to wait 6 more weeks to find out gender!
  • @knottie6bc657b2ee59e1d6 those are great names! If you want to check out the post on Read this First, there’s some steps to change your name on there so it’s easier to tag and get to know you! You may have log out and back in a couple times for it to work. ♥️
  • @mdfarmchick Martini would be a much cooler last name 🤪 The only boy name I somewhat like is Jack Henry but not completely sold on it (looooove Jack- slight JFK obsession over here)
  • @tmartin014 ahhh I LOVE Jack. And Henry. I think Jack Henry is adorable. ♥️
  • Oh I love Reese for a girl. Love it
  • @tmartin014 Jack is SUCH a great name!

Some names are finally growing on us for our boy!

Before the list of the top 4 DH will consider:
How would you pronounce this? Apolo.

DH is stuck in having the 2 Ls (english spelling), but in Spanish that would be pronounced a-poyo (and pollo means chicken in Spanish *.*, so that's a hard no for me). Plus, I think that Apolo with one L doesn't change the english pronunciation at all! Idk, you tell me! :)

When DH brought up the name I was like NOPE, but now I'm growing to like it a lot: it is familiar -in that everyone knows the reference- but not common, easily pronounced in any language, and the reference behind it..I mean...hello, Greek god!

These are the only 4 that DH will consider: Finnley, Chase, Apolo and Bennett. Now he is inclining more towards Bennett, which I like and proposed. A handsome name as well! Just more bougie.
  • I would pronounce it just like the Greek God, the spaceship and the boxer in Rocky. I really like it and never even thought about it as a contender
  • @bre2022 I would still pronounce it Apollo, but in my mind I would be like, "Why did they spell Apollo wrong?" I totally sympathize with the Spanish pronunciation making the traditional spelling unattractive for you, though. I'm curious, how does Spanish represent the name of the Greek god? If it is "Apolo," then you have an easy answer for people who wonder why you chose that spelling. "I spelled it the Spanish way." But I'm guessing they have an "n" in there somewhere?

Your kid will have to correct people who spell his name wrong his entire life, I guarantee it. My son has a name that has three possible variants in English; his spelling is the original, most traditional, and more popular in Britain, but it is not the most common spelling in the US, and even he has to correct people spelling his name wrong, even though his name does not have an unorthodox spelling.
  • @bre2022 FWIW my name is Rachel and people still need me to spell it for them. I have gotten all kinds of variants Rachael, Racheal, Rachelle. My last name is super common too and that gets spelled wrong. I say go with whatever you want. Chances are people will spell/pronounce it wrong regardless of your choice.
  • @bre2022 like the Greek god and the space flight. I like it. I am also partial to Finnley because it has been vetoed off of my list every time. 🤣
  • My name is extremely common and I got asked how to spell it today. I just said “uh, the normal way?”

@bre2022 I would still pronounce it Apollo, and I understand your reasonings for not wanting the “y” sound in it for you or your family. When you see Apollo, do you literally read it as “a chicken”?
  • @mdfarmchick love love love Juliana!!!
