Question. I went for my first ultrasound yesterday expecting to be at 7w4d based on my last period. Baby measured at 6w2d with a strong heart beat. I’ve never tracked my cycle too closely but I do believe it is closer to 30-32 rather than 28 so I know that could be why baby is measuring behind. But…the doctor called today and they want to see me in 2 weeks for another scan to confirm the due date. Is this normal or does it seem like they are worried about something since they are having me back so soon?
Honestly? It could be either. However, the fact that there was a strong heartbeat is definitely a good thing, so more likely than not they just want to make sure their measurements are accurate.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@chelsraec she used to sleep in bed with us but she’s slept on her own bed in the living room for nearly a year now! She wasn’t super jazzed about it at first but she got used to it within a week or two. We made the switch because we hoped it would help her feel more comfortable/normalize being physically distanced from me… and also because she is SUCH a bed hog lol
This is somewhat of a surprise at 5w! I didn’t think it would happen so quickly. I thought I knew my period date but was off by about a week. I’m really kicking myself for not taking a test a week earlier and very worried about drinks I had, including three drinks in one sitting at 4w3days (without knowing) medication I was taking and now have to wean off and not taking prenatals before I knew. Of course I’m following all recommendations now but still waking up in a panic, not sure if that’s normal or due to the worry. This regret of wishing I’d taken the test a week earlier is looming over all the excitement. Any reassurance out there?
Most women don't even know they're pregnant until 5 or 6 weeks. Unless you were bathing in a sea of alcohol, meth, cocaine, etc., I don't think you need to worry about a few drinks. I would recommend checking out Emily Oster's Expecting Better.

@whitta1015 hi I am a dermatologist (also due in September). I wouldn’t use fragrance moisturizers since often people develop contact dermatitis. Take shorter, luke warm showers with fragrance free soap like dove or cetaphil. Pat dry then when out of shower immediately apply moisturizer. Use a cream (not a lotion which has a pump). We recommend brands like cerave, cetaphil, vanicream cream. Vaseline is actually the best but often feels too greasy. @whitta1015
@knottiefe3bdac6361e82f6 curious about this- is there a reason to go with a cream vs a lotion? Are there attributes in lotions that are harmful or does a cream just lock in moisture better?
@lucyg00cy I’m not a dermatologist, but lotions add alcohol to make them liquidier. Creams are more concentrated and don’t have a delayed drying effect.
My son has eczema and that’s one thing we always do… only buy Aveeno, Aquaphor, and Vaseline tubs, not squeeze or pump bottles.
@lucyg00cy yeah definitely not a doctor, but when my son had dry skin, the ped said to stick with products that said cream not lotion for the same reasons mokay said. I've made the switch for myself too and noticed a difference.

Hi everyone! So I’ve had some cold symptoms (cough with mucus, congestion, headache & fatigue) since yesterday morning. That along with the typical nausea has been making me feel pretty crummy. I’m about 6 almost 7 weeks along and ended up taking one dose of 325mg of acetamenophin (spelling? Lol) last night to ease the headache. I’m starting to develop a slight fever. I took a rapid test yesterday and it was negative. I’ll take another tomorrow but I’m wondering if any of you have experienced fever during early pregnancy and what you did to remedy it? I’m thinking if my fever gets above 100.4 I’ll take another low dose Tylenol and might just take one before bed to be safe. Thanks in advance for any advice/input :-)
@raychelwhite My temperature seems to get elevated for about an hour every few days, usually around 99.9. Not high enough to call it a fever, but enough for me to be uncomfortable. I've had the same cold symptoms for at least 3 weeks now, covid negative. For me it usually helps to drink some ice water and make sure I'm not wearing too many layers. Pregnancy is rough on my body with respect to temperature; if it's not within a degree of my ideal temp, I'm incredibly uncomfortable (toohot or too cold). It's a constant struggle.
@trapperkeeper87 this is my first pregnancy and I’m thinking my body is having a hard time adjusting as well😞I haven’t gotten sick since starting to wear masks when Covid began so my immune system must be out of whack. I took another rapid test and it was negative! I’m hopeful my temp will go down, it’s about 99° right now without adding a degree (which I’ve read you should do with under the arm or under the tongue temp?). I’ve been chugging water and trying not to bundle up despite the chills! Thanks for your input😊
So I have Covid😞 I’m vaccinated but not boosted. Symptoms are relatively mild I’d say: cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and congestion, slightly elevated temperature that fluctuates throughout the day, and on and off headache. I’ve read Covid in early pregnancy doesn’t pose a huge risk except for the high fever concerns. I’ve read of others having Covid in early pregnancy in the introductions. If you don’t mind sharing your experiences that would be awesome! Thanks all😊
@raychelwhite so sorry you are going through this! I tested positive for covid when I was 6 weeks + 2 days. I am also vaccinated but not boosted. It hit me hard for two days and then I started to feel a little better, but not great until day 10. It was hard to tell if the lingering fatigue was covid related or pregnancy or both. The nurse line told me to call my midwives to let them know I had tested positive. One of the nurses in that department called me and basically said it's only a concern because pregnant women are at higher risk of getting very sick from it. She told me if I was going to get covid while pregnant, I got it at one of the best times. I hope your symptoms stay relatively mild! Don't be afraid to call your provider if you are feeling concerned!
@raychelwhite I tested positive for Covid at 6w+6d and I'm not vaccinated. I called my OB as soon as I tested positive and they offered me the infusion because I was pregnant. I was able to go on my 2nd day of symptoms and get the infusion, so you could always ask them about that. I only felt bad the first 2 days then I was perfectly fine. They just told me to watch my fever, which never really got over 100. No lingering symptoms and it's been 2 weeks since I tested positive.
Also - editing to say, I've had covid before (when I wasn't pregnant) and did not have the infusion and was fine. I only did it because my doctor encouraged it since I was pregnant.
@raychelwhite I’ve never had COVID while pregnant, but overall viruses are often worse while pregnant because you’re immune system is lowered for the baby. Hoping it stays mild for you!
@lalarose22 that’s sort of how it’s been for me! I felt really crummy Saturday and assumed it was just from being pregnant! I felt pretty gross yesterday and I’m feeling a little better today, definitely not 100% by any means but much better than this weekend! I spoke to my primary dr and obgyn and they offered to look into further treatments but since I’m young, vaccinated and experiencing relatively mild symptoms they said I should be totally fine. Thanks so much for your input glad you recovered and didn’t get hit too hard either!!!
@whitta1015 I’m so glad you recovered quickly! I spoke with my providers about treatments but the availability is relatively limited here in VT and since I’m young and not experiencing any severe symptoms we decided I will probably be fine without them. I guess I’m grateful to have it now and not later in pregnancy! Thanks so much for sharing your story😊
I had Covid before we got our BFP. Likely I had it the worst in my family because I was pregnant at the time. I had a fever of 101 for about 3-4 days and was completely wiped out, and had some vomiting. Husband and teenager had symptoms for a day and a half. In hindsight, the random vomiting was probably morning sickness (would have been 4ish weeks) and that was my clue that maybe I was, in fact, pregnant the week we were all in quarantine. When we finally were able to emerge from home I picked up a pregnancy test while grocery shopping and the rest is history! Not knowing I was pregnant, I used Advil and a variety of vitamins during that time. Will discuss with my doc this week at my first appointment. Trying not to stress about it too much but if my doc shares any concerns I’ll let y’all know!
@mnmomma84 thanks lady!!! I definitely did some questionable things before finding out I was pregnant too so I feel ya there! Wishing you all the best💕
@raychelwhite - I had Covid at 5 weeks, I was boosted and had very minor symptoms (runny nose - chills etc) for about 24 hours and that was it. I struggle a lot with body temp being pregnant and seem to always be around 99/99.5 and freezing cold, I remember this from my pregnancy with my daughter as well. When I tested positive they told me that there was no reason to worry (easier said than done). Hoping that you have mild and easy symptoms. If it makes it any better - my unvaccinated sister had Covid at 20 weeks and so far so good - she was a lot sicker than I was and everything still looks good.
I know I shouldn't be thinking about baby gear already, but I can't help it.... I knew Rock N Plays were taken off the market but now that I'm pregnant, that really hits hard. We wouldn't have survived my first newborn without one. Anyone know of anything comparable? Hoping I can dig one up from a friend that still has one.
@whitta1015 we have enjoyed the bouncy seats with both our kids. I know some babies like swings, but both of mine DESPISED them haha Though, I still kept my rock n plays for supervised resting times aka while cooking and cleaning and eating!
@whitta1015 we used a Fischer Price infant-to-toddler rocker. When my son was a baby, I'd rock him to sleep in the chair using my foot and would let him nap there supervised. He's three and still uses the chair which is nice.
@whitta1015 we loved our rnp with our first too. It's still sitting in our garage and I know I'll probably use it (again always supervised). But we were living in an apartment when my son was a baby and had very limited space so we didn't get a lot of baby gear/stuff. I'll definitely be looking into a few things that might help now that I have the space. Recommendations definitely welcome!

@Amphibious22 Same! I definitely need some more things this time around. We also absolutely loved our RNP. But we got rid of it because he had no room to store things and no solid plan for #2! I’m very interested in trying a swing this time. Also, we have so much space now that I feel like we need a few different seats in different rooms. Places to put the baby down are so important! I also learned last time that I need a little baby seat or bouncer in the bathroom!
Another thing I'm sad they recalled (my daughter arrived after the RNP) is the Boppy Lounger. That thing was genius and I fully plan to use ours with this next baby. It was so much easier to set her in that while we watched TV or played video games or had dinner. Knowing she was safe and cozy right next to us brought us so much comfort and made it much easier for my husband to sit with her while I slept.
It's all about supervision and being smart. My friend had her baby sleep overnight in the lounger and that really irritated me. NOT SAFE. We need to be gentle and careful with these little souls.
Yes to the boppy lounger! My girl lived in that. It was such a lifesaver. I'll definitely be trying to find another one of those. I mean I get it, but who leaves their kids unattended in these things?!
