I'm terrified to use the self cleaning feature on my oven too @mangoandguava and @wisewitch222. I have a friend who uses hers but I just can't bring myself to use mine.
@mangoandguava my grandma and I have self cleaning ovens. My grandpa tried to help her one time and did the self clean feature, their entire house filled with smoke and the oven locked so they couldn’t turn it off or open it for FOUR HOURS. My very intelligent H decided to use ours one time, and the exact same thing happened.
So, we’re team do not use self cleaning feature. Lol.
Omg that troll in TTGP is the absolute worst type of person ever. Where did that even come from?!? How unnecessary and just absolutely WRONG!!! My blood is boiling for those ladies over there. They totally don’t deserve that!!!
@mangoandguava I've used the self cleaning feature a number of times without catastrophic results. BUT, let me give you this warning. It makes your house stink for a solid day or two. I don't recommend doing if you are sensitive to smells right now.
@mangoandguava We got this one: https://www.lowes.com/pd/GE-30-in-Free-Standing-Gas-Convection-Range/1003047124 It has convection mode and airfry mode! I'm going to try out airfry mode tonight on chicken legs, and I'll report back. (I've never used an actual air fryer, though, so I have nothing to compare it to other then the grill, which is how we normally cook barbecue chicken legs when the grill isn't hiding beneath 2 feet of snow.) Over the past 4.5 years of living in this house we finally replaced all of our aged appliances with the range. The fridge was the only one that didn't need replaced when we moved in, but we got a new microwave, dishwasher, and now range.
We're not that worried about appliance safety and babies, though, because we don't have an open floorplan (that was an absolute deal breaker when buying our house) and the kitchen is its own separate room and I can stick a baby gate in the door to keep people out while I cook. I had my #2 in the this house right when we moved in and that system worked well for him.
It's EXTREMELY reassuring to know I’m not the only one that’s afraid of it though! I tend towards “your fears are dumb and nobody else has them and will laugh” (because admittedly some of them are - I haven’t changed a lightbulb in 10+ years and hope never ever to touch a breaker box) so it’s always nice to find out I’m not alone sometimes.
I think I’m just gonna delegate the oven cleaning to MH. 😂
(ETA cus we were posting at the same time) @wisewitch222 I think I’ve looked at the electric version of that! We do have an air fryer and it lives under my cabinet and is a hassle to take out, but I’ve only ever regretted it once when I tried to make homemade potato chips. (It was 100% user error.)
@paytonpedro I KNOWWWWW. What kind of Saturday morning shenanigans is that. I keep going back to check and hoping it’s gone but it’s not. I hate that it’s still up.
Anyone else pregnant with #3+ and keep getting asked if it was planned/if we wanted another baby??? Gosh. It’s just not a question I ever got with my previous 2 and like half the people we’ve told have asked!! Firstly, RUDE. And secondly, yes we desperately wanted this baby, Susan. Thanks for asking though. 🙄
@paytonpedro I haven’t told that many people yet, but yes both me and MH have been asked if this was planned
@mangoandguava I’ve used the self cleaning feature many times without incident but make sure you take out all the racks before you do it.

@paytonpedro we haven't told anyone besides immediate family and they've known for a while that we always intended to have more than 2 kids. But I do wonder what the general public will say! Random people love to say the most inappropriate things.
The kid is having a playdate today and so we cleaned the whole house (aside from the office and our bedroom, that's hiding our laundry baskets full of unfolded clothes). It feels good because the entire house was chaotic and causing me stress. Glad we got it done! Now it feels less overwhelming to finish the office and bedroom.
@coco2787 ok so maybe it’s a normal reaction past two? The first couple times I was like of course! And it didn’t bother me. But it’s getting to the point when I’m just going to start like “hi I’m pregnant. Yes, it was planned, no I don’t know what it is yet. August 11th”.
@paytonpedro people have said to me "oh whoopsie! You're a littlw old to be having a baby, right? I guess you're one and done?" Um no, Susan, we're not. You take your attitude back, thank you. Ugh, I'm so sorry people suck.
@paytonpedro not yet but I got the, “you guys know how that happens right… hahaha” 🤨
I use the self clean on my ovens. It never occurred to me that it would explode. I’m not sure if I should feel dumb right now… I’ve also cleaned an oven with oven cleaner and I would not recommend being home the same day someone else does it while pregnant and that you have plenty of ventilation and windows open.
@bridgiebee82 ugh that’s so much worse. I’m sorry. People do suck.
@mdfarmchick ok I haven’t gotten that one yet. Lol. But I’d probably be more amused by that than “was this planned?” Seriously what’s it to ya?!? 🙄 I just want to be like “yeah, do you want to hear about all the difficulty we’ve had getting to this point?!” And make them feel like an a$$hole. But I’m practicing being the bigger person.
@mdfarmchick oh yuck, I hate when people say weird stuff like that.
@bridgiebee82 wow that's insensitive. I'd get really annoyed, too.
My MIL has those boundary issues. When we told her we scheduled our gender scan, she was like "Oh to see if the baby has a little peenie!" Then she cackles. It just made me uncomfortable. She's very obsessed with us having a boy this time and I kind of want a girl JUST to prove her wrong. Love my MIL but I don't know why she has to constantly talk about baby boys having a penis soooooo much and how different that's going to be for us 2 girl household. I know how boys are anatomically different, thank you very much.
@paytonpedro I guess I'm weird with a third kid not getting these kinds of remarks, but to be fair I haven't told a ton of people (just family, close friends, and work people, who were all just very happy and excited). I kind of get the general impression floating around in society that people start to raise an eyebrow at four, but not three, and I never gave any thought to it until this morning I was at my son's tennis lesson overhearing this conversation, and the one mom said to the other mom, "Do you think you'll have any more kids?" and the mom of little kids was like, "No, we're done with three. The car fits three car seats," and I though, huh, society is pretty easy and accommodating for three kids or fewer, but starts to become a little difficult to manage once you get to four. Like, now you need a van, and maybe even a bigger house.
@wisewitch222 that’s definitely an interesting point! I haven’t thought too much about it but I know 3 is my number.
I’ve told the same people (family, close friends, work) and have had multiple family and even a girl at work this morning ask me if I wanted another kid. That was the one that kind of pushed me over. Maybe because we don’t like, tell everyone that we decided to start have sex for the purpose of procreation rather just entertainment?? I didn’t think that was really anyone’s business though…?
@mdfarmchick Don’t feel dumb! When I’m being reasonable I don’t think it should actually explode. But my lil lizard anxiety brain is decidedly not reasonable.
Why are people so ugh all the time. Let people make their own choices about their life! It’s not like how many kids someone has truly affects anyone else, and it’s not like at 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 that you’re gunning to be the next 19 Kids and Counting. ALSO you have no idea how long somebody’s been trying so “oh wow it’s a little late” F$&@ OFF WITH THAT. Also @starkette EW. People commenting this kind of crap makes me so happy that I was open about it when we were struggling and (**TW**) when we had our loss in Sept (end TW). I have no problem making people feel small for being shitty human beings, and I’ve got practice at it.
Ugh. I’m gonna go rage-scrub something on y’all’s behalf. 😡
Oh my goodness, so late reading the troll post on TTGP, but that was mind blowing. How is that post still up!? It literally violated TB's TOU so many times.
@wisewitch222 I’m too lazy to gif right now but I am crying laughing!! And also, agree society doesn’t think really make it convenient to have three kids… cars, hotel rooms, etc are all going to be just a little more fun with four. 😆
@paytonpedro I think any comments about the size of anyone's family is ridiculous. Our next door neighbors growing up treated my family like trash because my parents had more than 2 children. They were awful to all kids. People are just wild. Unsolicited opinions are so annoying. ETA: my gif for @starkette wouldn't load...
@bridgiebee82 & @darkrose88 I’ve seen other people on other boards aren’t able to gif either. I’m bumping mobile but I probably do it the hard way… and it’s still working so far.
I have the gif app downloaded, I clicked the send button and then “copy gif link”. Then in here I click the image and paste the link in the image url. Then press go.
That’s how I used to gif @paytonpedro but I can’t get it to work

@wisewitch222 uhhh… I did scrub a cast iron DUTCH oven! Does that count? 😂 Sucker’s heckin heavy! I did find the manual and apparently we can remove the door and make the ACTUAL oven easier to scrub, so we’re gonna try that first.
Gif links weren’t working for me earlier, I had to save to my phone and post from there.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. I think for me at least I’m anxiously waiting my next US which is 2/1. So naturally each day is the longest day of the year.
@wigglyicecream my u/s is Monday 1/31 and this last week has been 8357 days long!! Ugh. I do feel like the previous weeks this month flew by but we were also sick for 2 of them and I did a lot of sleeping.
My first appointment with the MFM is on Monday and I agree, this week is the slowest! They didn’t tell me what to expect and I’ve been assuming NT and then send me for blood work for NIPT but I guess I’ll know for sure when I get there.
@paytonpedro great minds think alike. I just got done reading it. “You think I would know since I have 4 kids”.
Did you read the about the support group for cryptic pregnancy?! It was in the TTGP thread, they did some digging and think they found the OP’s old account.
