@bridgiebee82 I’d expect you’ll have the babies before a lot of us since twins go earlier. Hope you make it to the wedding though!
I’ve had 2 38 weekers and 2 39 weekers. My real issue is I try to stay to stay close to home in the last few weeks because I have precipitous labor.
@wigglyicecream oh what kind of tattoos do you have? I’m not into flowers much either. I am definitely tomboyish. But I do love blue and was drawn to it.
@and_peggy I have a large chest piece for my grandparents who passed away with roses and a grandfather clock in the center. I also have a sleeve with some lions, and a Native American woman as well as more roses. I’m not actually a flower person but my grandmother’s favorite flower was red roses and they make easy filler. Once we get more into the HDBD I’ll make sure to show everybody. I have a bunch more too
I love tattoos! I love the pictures and the stories behind them. I have 3 right now. A memorial to my brother on my back, the word "teaghlach" which is Gaelic for family on my left inside forearm, and a turtle on my inner left ankle. The one in Gaelic was done by an apprentice and he went too deep, so it's raised. I kind of like that about it. It reminds me to keep my family above other people.
Anybody know about kaftans and if you can just get a normal one or there are maternity specific ones? (I am actively resisting having to wear a maternity bathing suit, and I’m not comfortable with a normal bikini exposing a huge bump, but my current plan is to wear that under a kaftan (which I never take off) at the beach all summer. But I don’t know where to begin with kaftans - I just know they’re a thing.
@wigglyicecream I also had to Google what a kaftan was. That looks way too hot for me to wear in the summertime here in Jersey @wisewitch222. I'll probably just wear a tankini or one piece. I know I'll be swimming a lot since my best friend has a pool.
@wigglyicecream maybe you will enjoy a kaftan too! I might just have to wait for them to appear in stores. I really don't like ordering wildcard items online and shipping back. The only clothes I order online are like novelty tees and J. Crew stuff that has the same fit forever.
@wigglyicecream I snorted. “My tattoos and general demeanor.” I feel that. I do love a floral though, even with my tattoos. I was told once in my fave black floral Old Navy dress that I looked like a “badass bookstore owner”. Which is kind of a life dream so you know, it’s my aesthetic. Also my tattoos are all black or greyscale except the rose behind my ear, and they’re all fairly small. I had planned to get another for my birthday this year but I am gonna hold off on that, as I’ll be either hugely pregnant and about to head into L&D, or a brand-new Mommi.
I think I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and get some jeans at least. The bloat is killing me. I had to fib yesterday for jeans day at work about “I forgot to wash jeans” because buttons are the devil already.
@wisewitch222 kaftans! I forgot about them! I dunno about a beach cover up, the beaches I go to are too hot for cover ups, but I can see them coming right along through the whole summer. Flowy and soft? Yes please.
@mangoandguava most of mine are also greyscale with pops of red. I have one leg piece that’s full color and I only got it bc I just wanted a tattoo and it was cool and my artist was dying to tattoo it. I find that as a huge complement “bad ass bookstore owner”. I’m interested to see what other moms have ink when she start posting more bump pics
@wisewitch222 fwiw, I used a non maternity bathing suit (one piece) that had a ruched belly in my last pregnancy. And I’ve worn it since as well! I’m not help with the advice on the kaftan thingy, sorry.
@paytonpedro Yeah, that's not going to work on me. I have no torso so my midsection gets HUUUGE when pregnant. It's not cute. I just need to find something that appropriately covers everything so I can go into the water up to my knees and call it a day.
I am so looking forward to buying a cute maternity suit, I’ve already started looking even though I refuse to buy anything until I hear a heartbeat. I live in a beach town and I plan to spend the entirely of July and August in the ocean because we don’t have AC. But I’ll need a cute suit so no one confuses me with a beached whale 😂
@wisewitch222 I have no torso either, I just wore a 2 piece and let it all hang out, people can judge away if they don’t like it (I know not everyone feels comfortable doing that but pregnancy is the only time I actually like my tummy)

@coco2787 yeah, I know the normal two piece will fit with the tummy in the middle, but *I* don't like the way that looks for me. It's a lose/lose, I know, but there must be very some kind of coverup that's beach worthy and works for pregnancy.
@wisewitch222 I think there are other types of cover ups similar to the one you mentioned. My best advice is to wait until summer clothes start coming out and that way you can try some on and don’t waste money and shipping if you’re unsure.
I ordered a pair of the Levi’s baby bump jeans, they’ll be here tomorrow. I can’t even fathom putting on my regular pants right now and have a few work things this week where joggers aren’t gonna cut it, so hopefully these fit!
@bridgiebee82 I hope you’re able to go to the wedding! It’s so cool that you are that close! My husband and I got married on the 5th of August as well!🥰
Report on the Levi's baby bump jeans: I think they're going to work! I'm still working out the sizing, though. I bought a medium and a large, both in the bootcut style. To be honest, I held them up together and I think there's only about a half inch difference in the waistbands. The large fits comfortably and the medium fits about how I wear my jeans now, which is a little tight. I think I'll send the mediums back. I also just ordered the baby bump jeans in the skinny style to try. For reference, I am 5'6 and about 160 right now. I normally wear 8s and sometimes 10s.
Anyway, they feel comfortable so far and the front band is thick and stretchy. I like the style overall -- no weird fitting areas and they look "normal." I'm not sure how I'll like the front band-only style as I get bigger, but I think these are a solid option and affordable at $35/pair.
I’ll tack on my review of the baby bump jeans to yours @onlygooddays08 I got the black skinny jeans in a large. I’m 5’8” and about 170 pounds. Normally wear a size 8. The mediums would definitely have been too tight. They fit pretty good and I think they’ll work for the next couple months at least. They’re more like jeggings than true jeans. I do have to pull them up occasionally but maybe as my belly gets bigger, I won’t need to. They also only have back pockets, the front pockets are fake. Overall, a good purchase!
This is my first pregnancy so I don't have any maternity clothes to start with, But I am hoping to have to buy very little. I have a few Smash and Tess rompers that should take me through and I am hoping some of my flowy summer dresses I already own will still fit come summer. I am not showing yet so all my clothes still fit luckily but I know it's only a moment of time.. I am tall and have a long torso so hoping that might help! Anyways - my question to all the mamas who have been through this before: are there any maternity companies that sell clothing that will take you through the whole pregnancy, and grow with you? When I start to grow out of my current clothes I don't want to have to buy 2nd Trimester and then 3rd trimester clothing if I can get certain pieces that will do me for both! Its still going to be winter here for a while (I am in Canada) so I can get away with lots of my sweaters but will need to step up to new tights/pants at some point!
@lindsaybelle i did not have to buy different maternity stuff for 2nd or 3rd tri. the stuff i had worked the entire time. not sure i'm some type of anomaly on that. i am 5'8" and on the thinner side, i gained 27 lbs with my first in 2019
This is a great thread, and thank you all for the tips on work pants. I need either jeans or dress pants for my work (unfortunately no leggings for me in the labs - I've asked this question elsewhere and everyone assumes I mean medical lab and starts recommending scrubs but I work in a coatings research facility). I thankfully do a lot of data analysis and don't work around the chemicals often though, but still need to follow the dress code for safety.

oh ok!! That is good to know. I've seen some comments about how over the belly pants need a big belly to hold up; did you find your maternity pants just stretched as you grew? I see on some of the maternity websites they have "shop by trimester" which is I think what confused me, I guess it sells more clothes! I really just want a pair or two of tights and a pair of jeans that will carry me through
@ethancaitlyn10172020 so I got two great pairs of dress pants (one grey, one black) from Motherhood last pregnancy. Between that and dresses (I used to have to wear business casual when going into the office so leggings were a no by themselves), I was pretty much set for my work wear (pants) wise. I did have a pair of maternity jeans and wore those on casual Friday sometimes. Personally, I would buy a second pair of maternity jeans since you can't do dresses but that's it. You're only going to get a few months out them so a huge variety isn't necessary - tops are what adds variety & what people focus on IMO.
@lindsaybelle full panel pants only need *a* belly to hold up, and then they just stretch. In my experience, once I begin to show (end of first tri) then normal maternity clothes fit me for the rest of the pregnancy.
So I'm lucky in that I'm a teacher and I can wear leggings with a dress or tunic, but my principal has made comments in the past about people wearing leggings looking unprofessional. Too bad so sad. As my belly starts to grow, I'll be wearing what I can fit and feel comfortable in.
@bridgiebee82 yeah, I'd feel the same if she was my boss. Unless I'm going to be outside in the summertime, I don't wear dresses bare legged. There is nothing unprofessional with a pair of leggings if you are using them as tights under a tunic/dress, especially if you are sticking to neutral colors. My former employer was very strict about clothing and insisted we dress business casual at all times. Even they agreed leggings used in the above fashion was considered acceptable.
@bridgiebee82 Yeah, I'm only wearing leggings and dresses to teach right now, and the reason for leggings is that it's COLD! There are other times a year I bare-leg it or wear tights, but sorry in the dead of winter, it's leggings and boots.
@lindsaybelle if you need professional work pants: i bought two from seraphine (black and navy) and rotated my entire pregnancy. I did love the full belly on them.
Well I got my Old Navy yoga pants and I am not a fan. I don’t know if I should have sized up but they’re not comfortable. I’m disappointed because I live in yoga pants. I did a quick order for some on Amazon and hopefully I’ll have better luck.
@and_peggy that makes me so bummed bc I was just about to order some old navy maternity leggings. My motherhood maternity ones fit odd and the only comfy ones have holes. Considering checking out the blanqui brand but they are $68 or something and I feel like that’s a lot for leggings. I’m cheap with stuff I know I’ll just be wearing around the house.
@wisewitch222 I know old navy has changed their workout and yoga leggings ALOT and I hate it. Every time I find something I like that’s comfy it changes 😭
I just got my clothes from kohl’s! I haven’t tried them on yet, but the leggings are a nice soft cotton! They’re going to be so comfy! And I’m also very pleased with the tank tops I bought. I run between a m-L in maternity (definitely a L towards the end because I get super duper big!) and I got L’s. They look big right now but I know they’ll be perfect in the summer when I’m huge!
@and_peggy@paytonpedro I absolutely love the H&M maternity leggings I got. They are super comfy and fit very well for me (better than the motherhood ones I got last pregnancy). I don't know if they have yoga pants though.
