The Great Big Question Thread

Re: The Great Big Question Thread

  • @velvetblue88 I'm wondering if you call your OB office, they may have someone to recommend that specializes in helping pregnant women. 🤔
  • Loading the player...
  • @stardustskies That's a good idea! I also messaged my doula to see if she would recommend anyone.
  • @velvetblue88 first off, props to you! Second you could try to find a “health at every size” dietitian for better support. Always look for someone who is a registered dietitian. Pretty much  anyone can call them selves a nutritionist.
I have recently started following “prenatal nutritionist” on IG who is an RD and her stuff seems legit. I know she has a program but I don’t know much about it. I need to gain minimal weight during this pregnancy too so I feel you.  Now that I’m feeling more normal I may start tracking sometimes with my fitness pal and just focus on getting lots of fruits and veggies and nutrient dense foods
  • @runnergirl2018 Thanks! I looked up the prenatal nutritionist on IG, and she has EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! ☺️

@rubyrose_0919 😂 The more I think about the conversation, the more ridiculousness I remember. There was a moment we were talking about water consumption, and she said, "...And drink 1 cup of water for every cup of coffee or tea you drink." And I thought she was going to talk about caffeine being dehydrating, but then she said--get this-- "You don't want your baby swimming in that muck. You need to wash that out." 😳 That's.... That's not how anatomy/biology works. 😳

I sent her a message tonight that we're not a good match and to have a good year. Done and done.
  • @velvetblue88 ohhh my gosh !!!! Lol
  • @velvetblue88 But.. but you shouldn't even have a lot of caffeine during pregnancy. I hope you review her on Google, or wherever, so no one else goes to her. Sure, YOU knew better. But some other poor schmuck may not know better and actually take her advice. 😳
  • @velvetblue88 She sounds like a delightful box of crazy. I’m glad you found something better

  • @velvetblue88 OMG "swimming in that muck"?! WOW. just wow. I am also glad you found a better resource!
  • For anyone who has had covid while pregnant, what advice did your doctor give you? I’m going to a new practice and haven’t even been in for my first appt yet so everything has been over the phone so far. They seem pretty unconcerned overall but I read online that doctors should do ultrasounds every 4 weeks throughout the entire pregnancy because of cases of growth restriction in covid positive mothers.
  • @melanier26 I had covid a few weeks ago and other than them putting in a referral for the monoclonal antibody infusion, they haven't said anything. I do have an appointment next week so maybe I should ask. 🤔
  • How long after the lab received your blood sample did your results come back for nips/nipt? My ob uses invitae and so I am to track and they received my sample today… and now I am checking it like a crazy woman. Lol 😂 😬
  • @francesgs my OB told me 5-7 days after having my blood drawn I should get the results. They did come on day 7, and that was with the Christmas holiday between there.

  • I got mine on the 8th day after having my blood drawn
  • @melanier26 I had covid last week they said nothing about having to do more regular scans. However, I was told that I needed to take two 81mg aspirin tablets for the remainder of the pregnancy. They said the reason being that you are more susceptible to blood clots which would not be good for the pregnancy.
  • @velvetblue88 I just can't get over the fact a nutritionist told you what you eat doesn't matter. What is she even doing with her life??! 😂
34 year old mama of a 4 year old girl.
1st birth through years of trying and the wonder drug letrozole.
    Second a great surprise.

  • Does anyone have the experience of taking a lot of "pills" during pregnancy? I trust my Ob/midwives but it feels like I am taking so many. Prenatal vitamins, 3 extra folic acid pills for twins, 2 baby aspirin for twins, Zoloft (new), and she just told me to take Unisom and B6 for the nausea that the Zoloft is causing.  This is astronomical compared to the occasional Tylenol I took with my first. I'm just worried about the effects on babies - having an extra in there is hard enough to wrap my head around but worrying about them being health and free of any possible birth defects or issues is increased with all these meds I'm taking.

    That felt ramble-y - sorry 😂
  • @jellie603 I get it, I feel like they have me taking so many and I only have a single. From what I've read some studies show pills work great and others show they don't. They show they can't hurt though so I figure why not? I'm on a prenatal, DHA, B6, Dsomething... haha I don't even know what they all are.

  • @moreamoozzarella well at least I'm not alone haha! I assume and trust that none of these will hurt but my insane anxiety brain is thinking that if I mix them all, it will cause issues - oof.
  • @jellie603 let's see... I'm on a prenatal, DHA, vit D, vit E, MTX (this is extra folate and a s*it ton of B12), bupropion (wellbutrin), calcium (since my prenatal contains none), levothyroxine, progesterone and estrogen (weaning starts next week at 14 weeks), and baby aspirin.

I was also on Prednisone but recently weaned off that earlier this week.

So that was 12 different pills. 😵‍💫 Down to 11 right now and eventually 9 once I'm done with the progesterone and estrogen. That will continue through pregnancy unless my OB wants me off something else.

  • @inthewoods23 holy cows! okay I'm starting to feel a little better about it! It is so crazy how much stuff we aren't "allowed" to have food-wise but then we are given all these meds and supplements
  • @francesgs I got mine 13 data after blood draw. I was told within 2 weeks - and that included over Xmas and New Years holiday- mine got uploaded to the lab portal (I’m assuming since everything was normal)

@jellie603 I take 2 pills for multi vitamin 2 for calcium/mag, a probiotic, and 1-2 omega supplements. I’m supposed to take a b complex but it always makes me feel weird. I also take unisom at night and plan to add in magnesium because I’m having so much trouble sleeping
  • @jellie603 with my son I was on baby aspirin, prenatal, two anxiety meds, plus I had to inject myself with blood thinners twice a day and I only had a single
  • @melanier26 At my 15 week appointment today, I asked my dr what should I do if my vaccinated daughter brings home covid from kindergarten. She basically said treat it like a cold but if you have shortness of breath or any other of those alarming symptoms to go to triage. She also said they’d have to monitor baby’s weight for the rest of thr pregnancy due to preterm labor possibilities and low birth weight for covid cases. Honestly, I don’t think the science is absolute yet in pregnancy and covid and every doctor is different. It’s safest to bring it up and just chat with them and see what they say.
  • @pdxav8rx Are you sure your gummies have iron in them? I was taking prenatal gummies and my bloodwork showed that I'm slightly anemic. My ob informed me that iron can't be added to gummy vitamins and that I need to switch.
  • I take prenatals, iron (for anemia), stool softeners, and progesterone daily. Fun times. 😂
  • Adding spirulina to your diet if it’s not already a part of it is a great way to help your iron and overall blood levels. It’s one of the best things we can give our bodies and totally safe for pregnancy. I’ve found it also helps with nausea and fatigue too which is a major bonus!! My fav company is EnergyBits and I take a handful like supplements every morning. Otherwise you can get powder and put it in your smoothies. It’s pretty easy to hide the taste of it with fruit. Just a thought for a more natural route in addition to your prenatal. It’s been working wonders for me!
  • Also I’ve changed my username and saved it and i can’t this knottie…. To go away. Any tips?

It’s showing my username is changed but knottie still shows on these messages boards. Been like this for weeks
  • @knottie8b267d85ec2fcfa6 I've heard you need to log out and back in for it to show up or even go onto The Knot's website to log in and out Some of the BMBs post a thread about getting your Knottie name changed. We just never added one to our BMB

  • @stardustskies I take a separate iron gummy (grape flavor) and have found a great way to get extra iron since I’m a vegetarian is throwing a big heap of frozen spinach into my morning smoothie. Half a frozen banana, frozen blueberries, unsweetened almond milk, tbsp almond butter and a dash of cocoa powder mask the taste
  • My favorite way to get extra iron is to have pancakes with peanut butter and dark chocolate. I used to get fortified waffles that had extra iron in them too. It was great when I was vegan but I still do it now

  • similar to other replies - I haven’t had covid while pregnant (had it prior) and my OB said while hopefully you don’t get it, if you do it’s probably just fine. To obviously alert them but assuming you’re vaccinated it will hopefully not be a big deal
  • Debating on putting this here or in randoms…

Has anyone told their employer yet? I’ve not and it’s the latest I’ve ever done it and for some reason, I’m more nervous. We’ve been wfh so I guess maybe I’d feel better if I were with everyone on a daily basis. I think I’m mostly nervous because maternity leave isn’t going to come at a good time and I’m a key player for a specific effort. 😬 I’m going to do it tomorrow when I have my 1x1 with my manager.
  • @sunshineandlemons I did last week just before I was 13 weeks. I'm in a somewhat similar position as you being a key player with a program we just started. We're terrible at finding new hires as well as finding good ones so we're going to need all the time we can get to find my replacement while I'm out so they have some time to trained!

  • @sunshineandlemons I told my supervisor last week too. I sometimes work around hazardous chemicals so I need to make arrangements to avoid them. And I'm the only one who really knows my job. He was so excited for us tho. It was sweet. He even remembered how hard of a time we had last time getting pregnant (I needed to tell him we were going through fertility treatment since I needed random days off). I was definitely nervous. I shouldn't have been tho. Good luck! It'll be ok!

  • @sunshineandlemons I told my boss and some coworkers last week. I was basically getting nervous that my belly was starting to show, and it felt like a comfortable time to share (I was right at 12 weeks). Telling people in my small office was easy but then I ended up telling the rest of my coworkers on a Zoom call, since they are at different locations and its hard to see everyone in person. That was a bit awkward since it felt less personal. But it was such a relief to get it over with, and be able to share my experience! It's an odd thing to share such a personal thing, I'm envious of my husband. Nobody would know if he didn't tell them! Haha.
  • @sunshineandlemons my principal knew from the day of transfer/implantation. Lmao! I'm not planning on taking maternity though as I make more $$ than hubby and am on a replacement contract currently with possible potential for permanent so I don't want to mess it up and have made it abundantly clear that hubbs is going on leave, not me.
