Re: Let's talk..baby names

  • I love Evelyn Elizabeth, Evelyn Jo, Evelyn Maxine all nn Evie. I like Brooks for a first name. H likes Memphis and we both like Wyatt Memphis.

@leahrnmom Evelyn is so lovely! We've considered it for a middle name this time. I like Brooks and Wyatt too!

I'm obsessed with names, it's so hard naming a human though!

For a boy, we only really like one name and we've liked it since my first pregnancy: Flynn Elliott (the middle name might change but I love this combo) but we also kind of like River, Jasper, Remy and Dorian.

For a girl, I have a massive list but top contenders for me today: Juno (my #1), Rose, Opal, Lyra....
    Possible middle names: Evelyn, Violet....
MH likes: Ivy and Raina (and he likes Juno, Rose, and Lyra too, he's neutral about Opal).

My two daughters are Nova and Cleo. I like short, easy to spell/pronounce, and no real nickname options.

I don't really choose based on family history connections or anything, just kind of look for something I love and has that special feeling.
  • @leahrnmom I love Evelyn; Maxine is my favorite middle name of your options 😍

The dads will be naming this baby, obviously. BUT if I were in charge of naming him, I love names like Cedric, Theo, Asher, Sebastian, Arthur…

    If anyone needs good resources:
    https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/
    https://www.behindthename.com/
There also used to be a website where you entered names you like, and it gave suggestions based on your likes. Can’t remember the website now!
  • @starkette those are great names. I generally really like having a nickname option. My kids are Addison nn Addy. Addy's middle name is Emily. My sister passed away and her name was Emily. My son is Jacob Jackson Emory. My husband used to call himself Jake as a kid because he thought it was a cool name so that where that came from. The Jackson is He's grandfather and Emory is my grandpa.
  • Oh my list is wayyyyy too long. I don’t have any boy names I love and mh has already vetoed my most loved girl names. 🙄😑
  • @paytonpedro oh no that's the worst when our partners veto a favorite. With our two other girls, mh wasn't keen on Juno but now he's open to it. Probably because I grew to love his first choice last time (Cleo) so it's like my turn to change him mind.
  • We like traditional names.  We have children named: Lucy, Jack, and George.  We currently like James and William for a boy.  We like June or Josephine (Joey or Jojo) for a girl.

  • @adcc43 I loooooove Josephine
  • @and_peggy we also don't announce the name until after the baby is born. That does mean that DH gets very attached to his nicknames, which I don't always love. I vetoed his first nickname choice for this baby (Beast), but he's chosen another one that I'm ok with (Hatchling). I just call the baby "baby" until birth

We have our lists of top names from the last two pregnancies, and if it's a girl this time we're pretty much set. But if it's another boy, who knows? We've already used 4 of our favorite names! 😂

Though our top girl name happens to be the same first and middle name as the baby's future second cousin. I haven't decided yet whether that bothers me enough to choose a different name. I don't think so. DH thinks it's fine.

@leahrnmom Evelyn is a lovely name. I know an Evvie and an Evie. (Eh-vee and Ee-vee)
@starkette I love Lyra and Raina!

@leahrnmom I love both Evelyn and Elizabeth! Such beautiful, sophisticated names.
@starkette It’s so difficult naming children. Almost sounds like a dad joke but, they have to live with that for their rest of their lives. It’s my job to make it a good name! Haha
    Ivy is very pretty!
@daffodil_shoe I just sifted through intros to remind myself of yours. Such a beautiful gift you are giving those dads. <3
@paytonpedro Do we have the same husband? Lol he was notorious for pulling the veto card on ALL of my girls names but of course never bringing any choices to the table!
We have two daughters: Sawyer and Piper. Both were extremely painful to name, we couldn’t agree on anything! With Piper we were discharged from the hospital but weren’t allowed to leave until we gave her a name and signed her birth certificate. Literally waited until the last minute to fully pick her name. We had Piper in mind for months. I wanted Elizabeth for a middle name and had McKenzie as a weak back up. When we left the hospital we left with Piper Grace, a name that we hadn’t discussed once but both loved.
Praying it’s a boy for a few reasons but one strong reason that we’ve had a boy name 95% picked out with both pregnancies: Carter Louis (Louis is DH middle name)
We didn’t intentionally do the “er” on all our kids’ names but I guess we’ll be “that family” 🤷🏼‍♀️

  • @dimeadozen Omg! Haha. Yep! Mine has nothing to contribute either. I’ve told him he’s not allowed to veto unless he has an equal contribution. He’s been giving me off the wall polish names that he can’t even pronounce properly. I have two boys and so opposite from you I’m praying it’s a girl haha. Not that naming it would help. Lol. I told him I would want something very feminine and that went well with our boys, Wyatt and Henry. So I’m not sure how obscure polish names popped into his head.
  • @leahrnmom Evelyn is beautiful

@starkette Your name list is lovely, especially love Rose with the names of your bigs.

    @adcc43 Love Josephine!

Our list is very long so we need to narrow it down a bit.  So far Sylvie, Greta, and Pearl are at the top for a girl.  Middle will probably be June or Louise.

For a boy, I like Simon but H isn’t convinced.  Our older son is named Oscar.
  • I adore the name Evelyn and it was my first choice but H shot it down, he apparently hates it. We have settled on names though, mainly because of how heated the Evelyn debate got.

For a girl we're going with Genevieve (so I still get my Evie) and for a boy we're going with Arden.
  • @becks105 Louisa is beautiful! Fingers crossed your husband has a change of heart.

  • @aukeev. I love the name Shepherd.  It was top on my list my last pregnancy.

  • These are great names! I echo how beautiful Evelyn is, but several of my good friends have girls named Evelyn so I think I have to forgo it.

My girls are named Reagan and Isla.

The boy name idea DH and I have had from the beginning is Conor Craig. Craig is a family name on my end. If we end up with another girl we’ll have to do a lot of brainstorming because we’ve already used up the names we were sure of!
  • @becks105 love Louisa! I am also partial to Louise, as it it my middle name 😀

If we have a girl, I would love to name her after my mom who passed 5 years ago. Her name was JoEllen, and then call her Josie for short. For a boy, my husband likes the name Dawson, but I  don't quite know how I feel about it yet. I like more traditional names.
  • I am so surprised about all the votes for Evelyn! I've loved that name for years and thought it would be uncommon. I guess it's making a comeback 😁
  • @andrea3o Made up names aren't my jam either, but I try to be more open minded and kind about the names people choose. We live in Idaho and there are A LOT of, um, creative names in my daughter's class.
  • Girls: Francoise, Catalina, Eloise, Elodie, Louisa, Sabine, Soledad, Simone, Esme, Eulalie, Josephine, Francesca

    Boys: Jules, Hugo, Sacha, Lucien

Hoping to get the girl names down. Definitely in first phase of looking.

  • @starkette yes, to each their own, I remind myself often. As a teacher I have enjoyed many interesting names in my daily life.
@elliespen those are all so lovely! I especially like Catalina, Eloise and Louisa for girls and Hugo for boys. My bf’s grandfather was named Lucien and he has put it on our list! It’s the only boy name we’ve agreed upon wholeheartedly; however, I don’t love how popular the nn “Luc” is, despite the unique spelling.

Had a dream last night that we had a boy and I named him Robin. Definitely adding to my list. My middle name is Robyn and I love it, but never wanted to use it until now. For a boy, it would be so cute. Like Robin Hood.

@elliespen so many lovely choices! Esme, Eloise, Catalina are my top favs. Love Hugo and Jules!!
  • We are having a boy ( FET) and I like Brennan Robert but my husband likes James Robert (Robert was my grandfather’s name) Our son is named after my husband so I think we are going to be going with my pick hah!
  • @starkette Robin! I like that! Works for either gender, too!
  • @jessicas2022 I love the name Brennan!
  • @jessicas2022 Love Brennan, we have an acquaintance who shares that name.
@starkette Robin is great choice, even more that it came to you in your dreams!

  • @EmilyE13 my daughters name is Reagan too!!

I love everyone’s names so far! We also keep ours private until the birth. Just helps to prevent hearing everyone’s opinions lol!!

I have lots of girl options but struggle with boy names. We will find out what we are having so hopefully that will help!
  • MH recently told me we should start thinking about names. Last time we kept DS's name private until birth. We may or may not do that again as it could be difficult with an almost 4yo listening in on our conversations and repeating us like a parrot.
  • @darkrose88 We kept both our sons' names secret until birth. To be fair, we didn't choose from among our three front-runners for #1 until we were at the hospital. We picked out #2's name pretty much as soon as we learned he was a boy at the anatomy scan (it was actually one of the runners-up for the first kid), but we still kept it a secret. We called him #2 in utero all the time. (Like on Austin Powers, "Your stock is rising, Number Two.") We'll keep this one's name secret too. I have some girl name ideas but no boy ones yet. We'll probably start talking about names in earnest once we find out the sex.

we don't plan to find out the sex, so we had either name for our first. we'll keep the same boy option, we need to revisit the list of girl names. i like easy to spell and pronounce names that have a nickname.
  • @wisewitch222 I preferred keeping it a secret. Not that I was worried people would judge the name choice, but we loved the name and didn't want other people's opinions impacting our decision. I'll have to talk to DH to see if we can come up with a good nickname to call baby when talking around DS.
  • @darkrose88 We still haven't come up with a nickname for this one. It has big shoes to fill after Starter Pack (a Regular Show reference) and Number Two.
  • @wisewitch222 cute nicknames. MH wanted to nickname this baby "beast" but I vetoed that (hated it), so he settled on "hatching," which I'm ok with. I've been calling this LO mostly by the size estimate for the week/day, so "our poppy seed" or "lentil"

  • I've so far been calling them B, for my little baby to be. Fully expect MH to come up with something once I'm further along, he has a talent for that kinda thing
  • Our kids are Silas and Cora, and it was hard to name both of them, MH and I have very different taste in names, but we don’t want a name that’s super popular.

For boys Jude is my favorite, but also love Theodore (Theo), Tobias, August, Rowan

Girls I’m basically clueless. Everyone says girl names are easier but I strongly disagree. Eleanor was my favorite girl name after my grandma but it got vetoed for our daughters first name so it’s her middle name and out of contention now (we never thought we’d have a 3rd)

So my oldest has name suggestions and they crack me up because WHERE did she get these names? I understand the girl choices because they are taken from shows, youtubers, and books, but the boy names are SO random. Here are her choices:

    Girl:
April (Top Choice for her) cute but probably not going to use
    Summer
    Paris
    London
    Eleanor
    May
    Joanne
    Kelly
    Daisy
    Autumn
    Zoey

    Boy:
Ray (Top Choice for her) definitely not to my personal tastes
    Joe
    John
    Josh
    Alex
    Maddox
    Bryce

None of them are to my personal tastes, but I still think they're so funny and adorable. She's 8 years old.
