FTM here and I have been having stomach aches since the start of week 5 and as of today I’m week 6! It’s not too painful but it is persistent and I’m not sure what’s causing it but suspecting that I’m backed up or that it’s from iron in my prenatal? Has anyone else experienced something like this? I called my doctor and they said that it didn’t sound like it was a pregnancy complication because of how the stomach ache is presenting and didn’t seem concerned but I still can’t help but obviously wonder what’s up or if anyone else has experienced it.

How are your bowel movements? Any benefit in trying some pregnancy safe options? Tums? Dried apricots or prune juice? Or do you think it’s cramping or signs of something else? Is it central or on one side? I am not a doctor and have no experience with this and not at ALL trying to put any fear into you, I have just noticed you asking a few times about stomach aches - my cousin recently had an ectopic pregnancy and the first indications where constant cramping/aching on one side and hCG that wasn’t rising as it should.
  • Options
@annashaf I was definitely slowing down with bowel movements so I started eating more fruits like apples and bananas then suspected I was having trouble processing the iron in my prenatal plus those fruits and switched to more vitamin c based ones (golden kiwis, peaches) and that’s seemed to help a lot! I also returned to my morning cup of coffee to help keep things moving and am just monitoring what I eat and how it makes me feel. I think I may have ibs and pregnancy is just the thing to really show it to me! Overall my stomach aches have minimized drastically thankfully and my bowel movements are moving along more normally again! I’d called the doctor when the stomach aches first began because I was also worried about ectopic pregnancy and they said it didn’t sound related to that but weren’t sure what it was so it’s been a mini journey for me over the past week and a half. Sorry for such a long response and I appreciate you answering me!!!

Has anyone done the Target car seat trade in before? I’m wondering how long the coupon can be used for. Like if it has to be used before the end of the event or if it’s good for a couple of months..

@sydney0like0australia I always get really badly constipated when pregnant. Miralax is pregnancy safe, and I put some in my coffee every morning which helps a lot! The iron in your prenatal can also contribute for sure

New question (for all of your significant others/partners):
My hubby is slightly jealous of all the great info this app is giving me. He’s wondering if there’s an app focused on the dudes through pregnancy. He found one that seemed to be great at first but it doesn’t seem to have been updated in a while and it’s very pushy with ads for pregnancy products that he “must buy”. He’s looking for one that shows/explains how the baby is growing each week and how that’s affecting me and tips and tricks to help navigate everything (kinda like this app but geared towards the guys). Thanks!
  • Options
@alataweasley im not sure of a guy focused app but my DH got a dude’s book last time and he really liked it. I’ll try and find it today to get that info posted.
  • Options
@alataweasley I don't know of an app either, but DH bought himself "the expectant father" last time and I think he liked it (he bought the "sequel" ("the new father") so I guess it was helpful). I found the Mayo Clinic's "guide to a healthy pregnancy" really informative as well...gives a brief overview of what goes on each month.

@BumpAdmin can we get a sticky for this please?

My husband used “Who’s Your Daddy” app when we were pregnant with our first. He was always on top of how I was feeling and what I was going through. It also gives little appreciate tips like “this week your baby is developing ___ and it’s draining on baby mama so give her a little extra patience” or “your baby mama would really appreciate you drawing her a bath or offering a foot massage” which, obviously, I thought was wonderful!! He didn’t use it on our second and I felt was way more out-of-tune because he thought he was old-hat at it…thinking I should download it onto his phone again for this pregnancy…

My husband just read the Mayo Clinic guide and the guide our hospital gave us.  I think he liked them because it wasn't geared towards men.  He is very matter-of-fact and appreciated knowing exactly what was happening / going to happen without it being dumbed down or sugar-coated or punctuated with silly tips or hints.  If he came across something that sounded unpleasant he simply asked me if I was experiencing it and how I felt.

@alataweasley my DH got Be Prepared by Gary Greenberg and Jeannie Hayden from his dad and it was actually pretty informative while being funny.

@alataweasley Not a book for men, but with DD my mom bought me a copy of "A Child is Born" (which she also bought for herself all those decades ago when she was pregnant with me!--clearly she gave me an updated version) and it's amazing. They've done a lot of in depth photography (they explain somewhere in the book how's it's all done) so you can see what the baby looks like at every stage of development. We just broke it out the other day to see what ours looks like now at 6 weeks, and DD enjoyed flipping through the pages with us.

@annashaf That sounds like a fun app!

@jandawg We loved Be Prepared! I wonder where our copy went.... we should drag that back out. Honestly one of the best tips we got out of it when DD was a newborn was to bounce her to a reggae beat. So every night for the first few weeks when she was awake and crying we'd dance around the room to Bob Marley. It worked shockingly well.

Okay, question: have you girls felt your cervix at all after getting a +ve? I thought that it was supposed to be up high. But mine is pretty low. However it is pretty soft. Any advice?

For those of you with pets, does your pet sense that something is afoot? I swear my corgi has felt something has changed. She’s been extra stubborn for the past several days and is acting out more than usual. Like today, after I washed her in the driveway, and then let her have her zoomies in the garage (standard procedure) she decided to continue her zoomies up and down the streets. Well… I just about had a heart attack! This is the first time she’s done this when I wash her.

I’ve heard of it being used for advanced maternal age, history of high BP or pre-E, and pregnancies occurring after IF treatment. It’s not surprising to me but you could always message them and ask them specifically why they want it in your case!

@happynapper well…i got the IF and AMA, I’m sure that is the reason. I’ve always had perfect BP and no pre-e on last pregnancy.

@acleverusername both of my cats have been more snuggly than usual. One of them will come up to me at night and stars kneading at my stomach (no claws, just alternating pressure with his front paws) and it’s adorable. Once he does that for a little bit, he will settle down laying half on my stomach or curled up right next to it, depending on what position I’m sleeping at the time.

Has anyone else had to deal with covid along with pregnancy? Hubby and I have been so careful but we had a friend over who found out a few days later that his coworker tested positive. As of last Wednesday, I also tested positive for covid. So far it’s just been like a nasty head cold with the congestion being the worst symptom and that finally seems to be fading (slowly). The worst part is not being able to take any kind of decongestant to find any relief.
Actually no, the worst part was needing to postpone my first ultrasound by a week and a half because of the necessary quarantine. I was supposed to have my first ultrasound on 9/20 and now I have to wait until the 29th. 😔 Hubby and I had also initially planned a dinner with our immediate family (his parents, my parents, brother and his girlfriend, and grandparents) for this weekend but that has also been postponed. I’m just feeling so defeated. The only good part about this is working from home means I can lay down as much as I need to to combat the awful morning sickness…
(sorry for the long post. I just needed to rant a little bit and since no one but us knows the news yet, you ladies are the only ones I can rant to).
  • Options
@alataweasley that sucks. I haven’t had Covid while pregnant, but I did have it and I can’t imagine not being able to take meds. The quarantine was the tipping point for a personal mental breakdown and I didn’t even miss any really significant events, like an ultrasound! That is so hard. You are totally right to feel whatever you’re feeling- bummed and disappointed and frustrated, etc.
  • Options
@alataweasley oh no! I haven’t had covid, pregnant or before pregnancy, so can’t speak from personal experience. I’m glad that your symptoms seem (mostly) mild and you are recovering, albeit slowly. What about a nasal saline spray for a decongestant? They’re safe during pregnancy! And acetaminophen (Tylenol)!
  • Options
@alataweasley I haven’t had had Covid personally but a few of my friends and staff had, luckily all mild cases. All of them said they got relief from Tylenol and being in steamy bathrooms.
  • Options
@alataweasley +1 to the saline spray! I tend to get pregnancy rhinitis and saline spray really helped keep everything moist, since my nose felt like it was on fire. Also use a humidifier!

has anyone has anyone had BOTH the NIPT blood test and NT scan?
  • Options
@alataweasley I had covid in my last pregnancy. Thankfully my body put me into labor at 39 weeks. I had a test scheduled for that Monday and found out at the hospital I was covid positive. I still couldn’t take much bc I was breastfeeding. Both my then newborn and then 22 month old tested negative. It was rough with a newborn but thankfully for me it was like a bad cold that lasted about 14 days.
  • Options
@And846 I did the NIPT with my first pregnancy and then I think they did the scan as part of my regular 12/20wk scans.
  • Options
@And846 Yes, I had the NIPT and NT with my last pregnancy. I think they did them at the same time (12 weeks), but since I was AMA I had approximately 25,000 tests so it's hard to keep track, lol. (They were also pretty unnecessary since we had transferred a  PGS normal embryo but my OB encouraged it anyway and I enjoyed the long look at baby during the NT. I'll have them again this time, too.)

@alataweasley I'm sorry you got COVID but glad to hear it's fairly moderate. Feel better soon!
