TW Spotting/Bleeding/Threatened Loss

I saw this thread on the October BMB and felt that it would be helpful in supporting each other in the scary moments. Pregnancy is super exciting but also has stomach dropping moments - let's be here for each other in the good and the bad.

Below is what was originally posted as a description:

“This thread is to support anyone experiencing spotting and/or bleeding.

All conversation surrounding these issues should go here. The TW in the title applies for the whole thread. Please beware of reading ahead if you think you might be triggered by conversations about spotting/bleeding.

Finally, remember that most of us are not medical professionals, and even if we were, it's always best to call/visit your doctor with questions or concerns. Feel free to ask questions and voice concerns, but please do not expect anyone here to be able to offer you anything but support. The most important thing to do is to call your doctor. They can offer answers; we can offer support.”

Update for me: I spotted most of the day yesterday but it stopped around mid afternoon and hasn't been back. It was much lighter than the original spotting that happened on Monday. I am 5+5 today and am just waiting for my u/s next Tuesday. I will be 6+3 so hopefully they can hear a heartbeat. I am super anxious about it.

@KNB1027 did your spotting subside?

@teamginger13 Oh I'm so glad you spotting has stopped!! We are going to be ultrasound buddies! I have my 6+5 ultrasound on Tuesday. I'll send out all positive energy for strong healthy heartbeats for us both

I am still spotting but it has gone from dark red to dark brown to light brown now so I am feeling more confident that it is settling.

I passed a pretty large clot this morning along with a lot of bright red blood and am now having cramping in my lower abdomen. I’m afraid this might be the end for me. Going to see if my RE can get me in tomorrow instead of waiting until Tuesday.

Hi ladies. I am so thankful for this thread. I had a vaginal ultrasound on 3/11 and a pap. My doctor said I might have some spotting after all of that. On 3/12 we started an 8 hour road trip for our spring break vacation.

Yesterday (3/14), I started spotting with bright red and it quickly slowed down and completely stopped by the end of the day. No cramping. No clots. However, I had a complete panic attack at first but my husband was able to calm me down and remind me of what the doctor said would happen.

I’m so thankful for this thread to talk about it. Hoping all goes well for everyone who experiences this.

I was able to get in with my RE this morning for a sonogram and I am SHOCKED but the pregnancy is still there and I just have a fairly large SCH which is causing all the bleeding. I literally was crying while on the table. The baby is measuring 6+1 and I am technically 6+2 today so little baby is right on track. We were able to see the heartbeat flicker but she wasn't able to pick it up on the doppler so we couldn't measure to see how fast it was beating which makes me a little nervous but she said it was probably just too early. Anybody else experience that? I feel like with DD I was able to see and hear the heartbeat this early but could be wrong. Anyway, I am happy but just exhausted with all the emotional ups and downs over the last week!

@teamginger13 Oh I'm so glad!! I think seeing that heartbeat is a great sign and I wouldn't worry too much about hearing it yet - I think that comes between 6.5 and 7 weeks. When does your RE want to see you again?

Well, I’m here now. I had some dark blood this morning and a little cramping. I messaged my coordinator at my RE’s office. I work today, so I’m sure I’m just going to be freaking out all day. I already have an appointment tomorrow, so my head knows there’s nothing to do but wait and see. Still anxious though 😐. I’m trying to be reassured by the fact that I had some bleeding at nearly this same time with my son and everything was fine.

@mkp0903 there are definitely a lot of completely normal reasons to spot in early pregnancy. Fingers crossed you get good news. The waiting part is awful ❤

Thanks everyone! I talked to my RE office and the nurse thinks it may just be the vaginal progesterone irritating my cervix, which sounds reassuring. I found someone to cover the rest of my shift at work so I can just go home and take it easy. It seems to have stopped for now. Hopefully all looks good on my US tomorrow 🤞

@mkp0903 So sorry you have to be here! I second that the progesterone can be super irritating, I hope that is all it is and I'll keep my fingers crossed that all looks healthy tomorrow!

@teamginger13 No more spotting or bleeding thankfully and my ultrasound today showed that the SCH is stable. Baby is measuring 6w3d and has a heartbeat of 127!! I go back next Tuesday for another ultrasound as well

Thank you all again for support. It really does help. US looked good. I’m only 5w5d so there wasn’t much to see, but there was a GS and YS and she thought she saw a tiny fetal pole. Measured spot on as well. I have another US next week 🤞 I feel very relieved.

First time spotting tonight and (as this is my first pregnancy) it made my stomach drop. 6w+5 today - I have my first ultrasound tomorrow so I’ll let the doctor know. I keep trying to reassure myself that it’s normal per what I’ve seen here and reading up online.
