@babymakes9 So far NJ hasn’t said no but I may just have DS go to families houses because we have enough family around here. If they cancel it, I told DH I’m doing a trick or treat but hiding the candy in mini plastic pumpkins. Pretty much Easter for Halloween!
I keep forgetting if my due date is 12/28 or 12/29 lol. Thinking about it now, the only reason I know it's 12/29 is because my OB said I can scheduled a CS on 12/22 at 39 weeks haha.
Omg Idk how I didn’t realize this before but my husband drives a 1998 GMC Sierra truck with one of the short bench style back seats and it’s a 2 door and there is NO way it meets any car seat safety standards so he’ll have to buy a new truck 😩
@karmba With DD I couldn't ever remember if my due date with 7/8 or 7/9, (it was the 9th) but I was convinced she'd come on the 8th since that felt more right....nope..she was made to come out on the 14th

I’m looking to get a new car too I’m very stubborn and only liked old cars. But now o think it’s time for a modern car. we have an 89 short bed one row of seats stick shift crank window pickup truck, a 1990 corolla wagon (might work for car seat) and a shitty 98 4runner that is sooooo loud and has too much rust to feel baby safe
I have some $ for a car but don’t think I can get a loan for more because student loans +mortgage have maxed out my borrowing capabilities
@gingkomama@BabyMakes6 it doesn’t meet Canadian CPST safety standards I had someone come and have a look at it! So we’ve decided to just use mine for the first year as I drive a newer car! So hopefully that’ll work for us, it’s just annoying we weren’t prepared for this because my husband loves his old truck and wanted to drive it much longer as it’s in good shape!
@tryingktogku My husband has a super crew truck and, in a pinch, we could transfer over our car seats if we had to, but we have been exclusively using my vehicle as the “family car” ever since I started staying home and we quit day care. Once #4 arrives it won’t even be possible to fit all of us in his truck! Unless you are each doing a pick up/drop off at day care you may find that he doesn’t really need to replace his truck. If my husband is taking the kids somewhere without me he just takes my minivan and I can take his truck if I’m going somewhere while they’re gone.
Not to derail the conversation, but I got a call from my company’s HR today. I’ve been recalled back to work! Finally 🤣 So the week of the 27th, I go back and will have to meet with my management team to discuss what steps I have to do regarding my eventual leave, since it’ll literally be like 10 weeks away at that point.
@gingkomama thank you! I mean, it’s been nice being at home, but I’m SO bored and I have no in-person social interaction beyond my husband and the cats. I’m very much a people person, so I’m thrilled to be going back to work, even if it’s just for a few weeks at this point. This also means I can make DH finally put the crib together 😇
@dreamscapes_. I am on medical leave at home now and I totally understand you! Wednesday's excitement was cleaning the laundry room closet! My husband was like why are you doing that? Well boredom and of course it must be done before the baby comes. He just patted me on the head and was like okay...backing out the room slowly! My leave ends in two weeks, but I think I am just going to have to quit my job. Just still not safe with all the virus concerns. So more closets to organize!
I am excited for you to return to work and a little routine for a couple weeks before baby arrives!
@dreamscapes_ that’s amazing! No detailing happening lol that’s what this forum is for! Hopefully you find it fine to be back working super pregnant haha
@readermom1 that’s good to know! Thanks! I’ll only be going back to work part time (2 12 hour shifts a week) and I walk to work so I think we will be able to make it work!
This has been the longest week ever. My DS would not nap until 2:30 yesterday and of course I got no sleep that night so I wanted to nap with him. I finally got to nap late but then it messed up my sleep last night. Today I’ve got a terrible headache and I just don’t feel like myself. Maybe I’ll take a nap again today even though I have so much stuff I need to do. Ugh!
Hey everyone. I was wondering how late is too late to take a childbirth class. The one offered at my delivery hospital has online classes in mid October and late Nov (but before Thanksgiving). I was looking at the October class, but it is full. The late Nov would be about a month out from my due date. I can find other online classes, but liked the idea of having one at the hospital with hopefully more specific hospital related content. (I could always take multiple classes if that seems to be the best option). Thanks in advance!
@dobiemom11 - I just signed up for one yesterday and it's the first saturday in November! I'm also doing a breastfeeding class and a caring for newborns class later in November. We're really banking on her not coming early! lol
@dobiemom11 we signed up 12 weeks ago and Nov 14 was the 1st one we could get into through our OB. Our hospital is still not offering classes so we think that’s why it was so booked up. It still a month before our due date but 🤷🏼♀️
@dobiemom11 That's a little later than I would feel comfortable with. My first was born unexpectedly at 36 weeks. Have you considered an independent birth course? I did one through a local agency last time and this te I'm doing an online independent course that is self-paced.
@gingkomama. That is my fear. After discussing it with DH, I think we are planning to look for a different class. That way we can be prepared. If that class still has spots closer to the date, then we might also take that class as well (with only an October and November date listed, I am not holding my breath. Dec and Jan moms will probably fill it up. I was delaying, since I wasn't sure which hospital I was planning on delivery at and wanted my midwife's input).
I just found out both my SIL’s are roughly 3 months pregnant! I’m very happy for them and excited that we will al be having babies around the same time ish
@tryingktogku That's awesome! What a fun surprise! My sister-in-law and I were due about three months apart with our first and it was so fun for them to be close in age!
So I get very hot overnight (this has happened to me forever, not just a pregnancy thing) and I sleep with the fan on pretty much every night. It got pretty cold here last night and I had the window cracked but still had to turn the fan on around 2 am. This got me thinking... when baby is sleeping in our room, will it be too cold for him? Obviously he'll have a swaddle thing on, but as I was laying awake last night I was thinking, what if his little head is cold? 😂 Should I just get used to the idea of sucking it up and sleeping with no blankets while he's in our room?
My H thinks I'm nuts, he sleeps with two heavy blankets and half the time even with the fan I wake up sweating.
@flip25 I thought I read somewhere that a cooler sleeping environment is supposed to help prevent SIDs. It stuck in my head, since the temperature they were recommending was cooler than the one we normally keep our bedroom at (which I still think is chilly, but enjoy wrapped up in blankets). I wasn't thinking about his sweet little head getting cold though. I will have to go back and see if I can find where I read that.
@tryingktogku ooh, is that a Canadian thing? In the us, they don't care what car you have as long as you have a carseat.
@gingkomama I heard my 1st at 36 weeks as well. We had made it to 1 childbirth class.
@dobiemom11 we rook a childbirth class at our hospital with our last baby 2 years ago (he's my dh's first) and the class did not go anything but the absolute basics. No breathing practice, so swaddling or diaper practice, etc. Nothing at all like I based imagined it would be based on what i've seen on tv and movies. They did give us a tour of the hospital though, which was kinda nice, but we wouldbe forc at pre-registration anyways. I would look for something more.
@tryingktogku Not that it’s the same but I totally I used my car being too small just to get a new one after we had DS and I switched to a crossover because I had a little Sentra and poor kid was being bent like an accordion to get in lol
@babymakes9 and @gingkomama. I found a free infant care class online at the Baby Academy. (Of course they offer that class free and strongly plug their childbirth class). I knew most of the stuff already, but I think it was helpful for my husband to watch. We decided to go with their all-day childbirth and infant safety (CPR, choking etc) which is in October. They have them every weekend, so just thought it would be better to get it out of the way early. The hospital also emailed me some of their policies, so I feel better prepared for those specifics as well. 36 weeks was making me a little nervous. Watch him come super late now as a result!
@tryingktogku and @jbal918. DH has been hoping for a new car for a while now, so we will see what happens. My car is 19 years old, so I would get his old one (a huge upgrade compared to mine) and he MIGHT get a new one. But we are discussing different features needed with a newborn as compared to just us.
@dobiemom11 I drive a fairly new Honda Fit and it’s just fine! But I always said if we decide to have a third child I want the Honda Pilot lol so we were planning for that in like 4-5 years anyway and upgrading his truck in like 4-5 too so this just threw a wrench into things
I also "need" a new car soonish. My current car I've owned and bought new. It's a 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid. She's well over 100,000 miles now and has commuted back and forth to Brooklyn her whole life so she's not pretty. We are done at 2 kids so I'm either going for a Honda HRV or CRV. I'm going to try and make it with the Altima until summer since I'm working from home until end of March at the earliest.
@dobiemom11@tryingktogku@willashbaby we also are going to need at least 1 new car before Feb Bc DH’s lease runs out. DH wants something fancier/more comfy because he commutes an hour each way to work every day and I’m fully remote so that leaves me with the cheaper car (I’m okay with that Bc he doesn’t stop me from getting any furniture or other things I prefer for the house). He’s looking at a small luxury SUV and I want to either keep my current mid-size (Acura MDX) or move to something that might be easier for us with a big dog + baby. So I’m going to test the Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia and Toyota Sequoia - but need the trim that has the captain seats in the middle row so our dog can easily get to the back row or lay on the floor. If I don’t like any thing within our price range though, I’ll just keep mine a little longer and we’ll just have to figure out organizing all of our stuff when we need to go on road trips (or could maybe rent a Yukon lol).
@shelmcclel I love that you take into account your doggos needs to! My in laws gave a YUKON it’s an amazing vehicle too lol just a little pricey for me!
@jbal918 I always wanted the pilot but when I got my car last year we were like well we don’t really need it for another 4ish years (and that’s how long it’ll take me to pay this one off) so that was the plan all along! I think they’re like “cool” mom cars haha
I can't even imagine having such a big car! Even though we don't live in the city we're close enough that our driveways are NARROW. We wouldn't be able to park one of those anywhere, lol!
