Re: May Randoms

Thanks, ladies. The nurse advice line told me I should get checked out at the ER, so they called ahead for me so that they were expecting me when I got there. I waited less than five minutes in the waiting room (which was empty!) and was promptly seen by the doc who referred me to get an ultrasound. Funny anecdote: the ultrasound tech said "Your baby takes beautiful pictures" LOL. Getting results from the lab (urine & blood) took the longest - almost two hours of waiting. After all is said and done, no appendicitis and no ovarian torsion. She said that while they couldn't see my appendix on the ultrasound (to be expected given I'm pregnant) she didn't want to put me in for an MRI or CT scan if the only symptom I had was pain in the area, so she recommended I take it easy, take some tylenol and schedule a follow-up with my OB if the pain persists.

@ccstlln1 I was thinking that it's possibly RLP, but this hurts even when I'm sitting still, and is like a constant dull ache that pinches and shoots pain up & down my right side anytime I move, and I had read that RLP is sporadic and doesn't last but a few minutes. But, who knows, this could be RLP that is presenting abnormally. The fact that I'm a side-sleeper probably isn't helping my condition, but I can't sleep on my stomach because of the baby, and if I sleep on my back I get horrible night terrors and sleep paralysis. Maybe I need to adjust my Boppy side-sleeper pillow or get a different one, I dunno.

  • Thanks all for the advice. I called my insurance company and they said my doc didn't get the test authorized ahead of time, so they're going to call her to get retro authorization. They said definitely don't pay it until they reprocess it. Phew!
  • Went for my AS today and definitely almost passed out less than 10 minutes into the scan. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Thankfully both babies cooperated and they got all the images they needed!
  • @babyodo I am glad you got checked out and even better to have an empty waiting room!! I just thought of this—did you exert yourself in anyway? I tweaked a back muscle over the weekend (by painting my boys’ room, not even doing anything!) and it feels similar to how you described, just in my back instead of my side.
  • @babyodo glad you got it checked out! Hopefully a little rest and time improve things.
@peanutorcookie phew! That's a relief. Glad they didn't just tell you to pay it and try to work it out later.
@mckjacks laying on your back, especially with two babies pushing down, is no joke! I remember having to take breaks on my side at my AS with my daughter and am sure I will this time too. I pass out so easily. Glad everything looked good!

Last week of working from home for me! And my work bestie just tested positive for COVID. 🤦

Actually, now that you mention it, I did! On Sunday morning I was coming down the stairs and the slippers I was wearing don't have any tread so it caused me to slip and skid down the last 6 steps. I caught myself with my arms and bumped my butt on one stair, but it wasn't a bad enough fall to make me want to go to get checked out. I think my ego was more bruised than anything! But, it definitely could have been that.

ETA: I will be getting rid of those slippers ASAP.

  • @carrotsandpeas3 oh no!
@peanutorcookie sorry, I am still learning some of the names, someone brought up waiting to check on their H after finding out they carried muscular dystrophy.
@babyodo so glad the experience was smooth, I hope you feel better soon!
@mckjacks glad babies cooperated, AS can be a long exam!

@peanutorcookie thank you for asking about the NIPT cost. I just had one done and my deductible is $WhyDoIEvenHaveInsurance so now I can mentally prepare for that bill, which will honestly be a huge help. I had no idea they cost that much.
  • amapa20amapa20 member
On a different topic, I have to rant. Last week I had a positive quad screen so my doc ordered the NIPT and referred me to a specialist (an hour away) for a specialized ultrasound. When they told me this I specifically asked if it would affect my already-scheduled A/S and they said no. My A/S was scheduled for tomorrow and I was so looking forward to it, but yesterday they called to say they just "realized" I had it scheduled and canceled it because I'm seeing the specialist. It makes sense not to do the same ultrasound twice, I just wish they had told me immediately instead of two days before. To top off Grumpy Pregnant Lady Times, after over a week not hearing from the specialist I finally called them - four times - to make the appointment and have to wait ANOTHER two weeks for my A/S. Grrr.
  • Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @peanutorcookie same as what everyone else is saying. My insurance covered it but my OB’s office told me if it came back unpaid or over $300 to call them so they could get it adjusted to contracted rate.
  • @amapa20
so frustrating I am sorry! I hope everything turns out well regardless <3

Guys, here we go with the first most likely useless purchase for baby. I spent $75 on an infant seat that clicks on the Stokke high chair, LOL. I got it off Craigslist and sent my husband 40 miles away to pick it up...who wants to bet that baby will hate it???
  • jgrodojgrodo member
@morethanamama do you like the stokke? I've been wanting to upgrade to it for a while. Maybe baby will surprise you and like it hehe

@amapa20 ugh that stinks but yay for good results and a girl!

    @babyodo glad you're ok

Such total randomness but wearing my mask during A/s and whole appointment made me sweat such bullets during my appt yesterday  oh man summer is going to be tough
  • @jgrodo I think it's awesome for a toddler and terrible for a baby. My son still has to use the seat and the straps suck. It would be hard to get a baby out. BUT it looks awesome, it's easy to clean, and it doubles as an adult chair. So I think ultimately it's a really good investment if you can afford it.

I'll use the Ikea chair with the baby when it's solids time and have my son in a booster while we try this infant seat thing! It looks like a little baby recliner but it clips on the chair. It's small so I'm thinking 2.5 months tops of use.

  • Ugh the past few nights I have been tossing and turning and somehow end up sleeping on my back even though I shouldn’t be! I can’t wait for my maternity pillow to get here today that I ordered from Amazon. I’m hoping it makes a difference.
  • jgrodojgrodo member
@morethanamama ooh that looks very cool.  Ooh then will your toddle go back in it? Good to know. The mess factor is why I've been wanting to get it. Trying to clean ours has been so hard, it's soo nasty.
  • I had my A/S this morning and I feel like measurements were all over the place. The head was -6 days from due date, abdomen was right on the dot, and limbs were +6 days lol. Does anyone know what the typical margin of error is for measurements? I know we have an U/S tech in here too.
  • babyodobabyodo member
@coldbrew my A/S was the direct opposite: her head measured a full week ahead, her abdomen was right on track, but her legs were a week behind. At my ultrasound at the ER yesterday, they confirmed that she's measuring a week ahead, so the US tech told the ER doc that I'm actually 20 weeks instead of 19.

  • @babyodo I was wondering about the criteria to change dates. She did tell me that averaged out the dates are right on track, but I wasn’t sure how much they mattered separately.
  • @coldbrew, DS’s measurements were all over the place like that at his anatomy scan.
They never mentioned it and he has no issues.

When we had our first dating scan at 10 weeks, she was measuring 4 days ahead and they didn't change my due date, so I'm guessing they won't change it now that we've had our A/S, too. Since I'm a FTM, I'm just gonna ride it out till my due date lol.

  • In first tri, you have to be a week off on dates for them to change your due date. Later, it's even more but I'd have to look up the number. Basically, the range of normal for date is higher later on, which is one of the reasons the early scan is important! I have no insight into the measurements being all over the place @coldbrew. I think @calliah is an ultrasound tech? Sorry if I am wrong @calliah!
  • I was also measuring 4 days ahead at my dating scan and they said the only change the EDD for +/- 7 days. I think my son was also measuring ahead at both the dating scan and AS and he did end up being born at 37w.
  • I was measuring overall four days behind, my Ob said unless it’s off by 2 weeks they don’t change the date. That it’s all considered normal.

@coldbrew my measurements are all over the place too. All within a week of my due date. I asked with my DD scans years ago and the tech said it’s normal. They look at the average to see where the baby is at. She said if we think about all babies aren’t born at the exact same weight and height which made so much sense to me. They all grow at their own rate.
  • Thanks all!

Im going to stick this here so it’s most likely to be seen - if you’re wanting an Owlet, I got an email that code “smartsock50” will save $50!
  • @mamahosch I love my pillow! I still end up on my back sometimes, but with my leg elevated it takes the pressure off. I got one of the full body sized c shaped pillow and ended up folding it in half so that I can put one leg under the middle and then both sides have raised edges for me. It helped a LOT!
  • I love my pillow too! DH not so much, he calls it “my boyfriend” since he can’t really cuddle with me while I’m using it and it takes up half the bed! I sleep so much better with it and while I also end up on my back sometimes it’s much better than before I was using it.
  • @mamahosch @aefsparrow @westslopemama I love my pillow too, though I changed which kind I use this pregnancy. Today one of my featured articles on this app is about unnecessary pregnancy products, and one of the items mentioned was a special pregnancy pillow. I am about ready to fight someone over it, so I’m glad you’re all on team pillow. 😂
  • Is anyone else thinking of Halloween costume ideas already? I want to make them and I know it takes me forever to finish sewing projects so I better start soon!!
  • I found an Alice and the white rabbit idea that I like (bc DD is named Alice), but it will be cold here plus I probably need to do something that DD will be excited about.  Maybe Elsa and Olaf.
  • I'm awful at making my own costumes but we usually end up with creative stuff. When DS was 4 months we dressed up as Labyrinth characters! He was baby Toby, my H went as Bowie/Goblin King, I was Jennifer Connelly/Sarah.

Last year, DS was Chucky 😂😂 and H and I were Clarice and Hannibal from Silence of the Lamb. DS was also a gumball machine for trick or treating- super easy to pull off! Honestly, I'm sad but I'm not sure there will be much trick or treating due to covid. My H's company has a huge party on campus every year and that's for sure not happening. Not sure I'll feel comfortable with trick or treating with a ~4 week old at home 😭 love Halloween!!! And all your ideas, jealous of all of you who can make costumes! I would love a family one, I'll have to see.
  • @coldbrew baby could be Salem the cat!!
  • I can't find maternity shorts that I like anywhere and it's making me so mad! I was just going to belly band my regular shorts, but some of them are so high waisted that I don't think it will work. Just wanted to whine for a minute.
