  • @wychets I'm so hesitant to try unisom wbecause while I can't seem to sleep at night I am soooo tired during the day. Like could fall asleep sitting up at my desk. Maybe I'll try it over a weekend when I don't habe to work the next day 🤔

  • @dumbledoredies we are same here 1st of June phase two of things open here unless our govoner decides to change it again......
  • bserenabserena member
I'm in TN and we have started reopening already but I am not too thrilled about it. I have to be back in my office starting Monday, which I don't mind too much since I can just shut myself away... but I have a part time job at Zales at the mall and the mall is set to reopen this weekend so Zales will open soon too and I am really worried about being at the mall and pregnant and getting sick.

My fiancé went back to work yesterday but most businesses in our city will stay closed until the end of the month. We were lucky to be home for 6 weeks, now we are a bit more nervous, anxious. At least I still get to stay home and I trust him to be safe at work. I don't see restaurants letting us in to eat for a few months here.
  • I'm in PA and the governor just extended the stay at home order until June 4th. I understand why, but I kinda wish he would have done it 2 weeks at a time instead of a whole month! It just feels like we'll be stuck at home all summer! There are 24 counties that are moving into the "next phase" of re-opening but I don't work or live in any of them.
  • I'm in Ontario Canada, I am still working from home so far until June 4th. Hubby is emergency services(military) so he has been working yhis whoke time. This past Friday garden centres were allowed to open. Hardware stores fully open today. All stores that have curb front entrances are all8wed to open on Monday, but must only do curbside puck up. All stores still have to practice social distancing and safety rules when opened.

Is there a thread anywhere in our group about choosing a registry? I keep seeing The Bump promoting their registry, but when I search comparisons online, The Bump's registry isn't compared? Has anyone started a registry yet and what have you chosen?
  • @warmwinter I haven’t started one yet but this is a great question! I feel like a lot of my friends have used target and I’ve seen a couple babylists

  • I’ve started one on Amazon.  To be honest I’m hoping we share what our favorite products are so I can learn about new products.  I swear things change!
  • Is there a thread anywhere in our group about choosing a registry?
I registered at Target. You get a free care package from Target after registration.
  • @warmwinter we did Amazon and Buy Buy Baby. We also opened one at Pottery Barn Kids for the crib, but only added a few other items to that one. Amazon was certainly most convenient and great for diaper deals and so many miscellaneous items that were eligible for the completion discount, and Buy Buy Baby allowed us to get the completion discount on UppaBaby stroller and accessories, which was great as well
  • I did my registry through babylist and I liked it. This time around I created one through amazon just for myself and the completion discount.
I found out this morning I have an anterior placenta. Does anyone have any experience with this? It doesn’t look like it’s much to be worried about, but the medical assistant couldn’t find the heartbeat so they did a quick ultrasound. Everything looked fine, but I’m wondering if this will make it harder for me to feel baby kicks or find the heartbeat on my own Doppler.
  • @surlyjaneausten I had an AP, although I didn't find out until my anatomy scan. I had suspected it though, because I didn't feel any movement until 20ish weeks. Other than the movement thing, it didn't affect anything.

Has anyone started looking into daycares yet? My coworker has two young kids (3 & 1) and told me the other day that I should go ahead and start looking because she had to get on waiting lists while she was pregnant to get a spot in time. I've started doing some research today, but it feels so early! I don't want to wait too long though, and since we live in a city it makes sense that the best places would fill up quickly.

@bserena Where I live you can put your child on a waiting list for your choices of daycare centers from when you find out you are pregnant. I did it at around 8 weeks.
  • Hey all - question about sleeping positions.  Are you all making a focused effort to sleep on your left side?  I’m most comfortable on my right, and I read something recently that said beginning in the 2nd trimester, you should be sleeping on your left side.
  • bserenabserena member
@triciad83 I am still sleeping on my right side, where I am most comfortable. I try my left but I am already dealing with insomnia so if I can't fall asleep I roll over. My OB told me it isn't really a big deal and just to get sleep!
  • mimsermimser member
@triciad83 I am, I've been exclusively sleeping on my left for about the past week. I started to have hip pain though, but it started when on my right side as well. I don't have a pregnancy pillow yet, but because of the pain this week end, my fiancé rolled up one of our old comforter and I've been basically snuggling it at night with the bottom part between my legs and I've been super comfortable since.
  • @triciad83 I am a mess when it comes to sleep lol, but my OB told me last pregnancy that my body would know if I was uncomfortable or needed to move.  I am a pretty heavy left side sleeper, but I also sleep on my back and on my right side.
  • @bserena definitely feels early to me too! But I do plan to mention that we are expecting to DD’s current daycare when we go there Friday to drop her off for her virtual graduation so that I can find out how what their process is. We moved here when DD was 1.5, so I haven't been through the process of a newborn with them before. We love her daycare so we have no plans to make a change with the second baby unless we move again.
  • @surlyjaneausten I had an anterior placenta with DS. It wasn't a concern when it came to much but I also had placenta previa which can be dangerous. The crappiest part about the anterior placenta was that I didn't start feeling kicks until around 22 weeks.

@triciad83 if I'm remembering correctly from my first the position you sleep in doesnt really matter until around 17-18 weeks when the the the starts getting heavier and putting pressure on the artery in your back. Something like that? Its been a while, lol. It was around that time that I started using a pregnancy pillow. A pregnancy pillow greatly helped with sleeping on my side because I'm usually a tummy and back sleeper.

I've started a babylist, buybuybaby, and Amazon registry. This is my second so I wont be having a shower but there will be a few things we need or need to replace (like the rock n play that I used every single freaking day with DS and cant use this time around 😭). I want to be able to save things to lists!

@bserena where we live childcare can take forever to secure a spot. The minute I had a positive pregnancy test I put our baby on the childcare waitlist. If you’re in a city, I’d put your name on the list now.

@name1109 okay, thank you. I am in a city so I will go ahead and contact some daycares! I just felt silly being so early on haha.

@triciad83 I hate sleeping on my left. I personally start early so it’s my new normal. I am a stomach, back, and right side person. I have a ton of extra pillows I’m fighting with every night. They help but I try to (re)train myself to sleep on myself.
  • @dumbledoredies do you know what you are going to use now that we can’t use the rock n play? We used ours in the beginning with DD and it was wonderful... and then the damn recalls came out. At first it was just for babies that could roll over so we used it a little while longer. We should have returned it, but I think I just threw it away.

And I’m so happy you got good news at the doctor!! I was going to reply earlier about going to the restaurants, but I didn’t want to when you were going through hellish anxiety.
Here in Texas the restaurants opened up on May 1st. They are only allowing 25% capacity, non reusable paper menus, no items like ketchup bottles, napkin holders can be on the tables, parties of 6 or more not allowed. And now our salons and nail places opened last Friday, you have to wear a mask the whole time and allow time between appointments to disinfect. It’s going to be a slow return to normal... if we ever get back there. Not everybody has opened though.

So, I just told my boss/bosses boss I am pregnant. It went well I think! We didn't really talk about MAT leave or anything but I figured I can bring that up a bit later. My question is, now that they know, do I tell my coworkers or just let them figure it out? The couple I am close with already know but I'm not really sure what to do about everyone else. There are about 25 of us in the office and everyone gets along but I just feel weird going around telling everyone. What is everyone else doing as far as coworkers go?
  • ksd20ksd20 member
We used Target and Amazon registries for our first and I'll probably create but not share this time around so I can order things with the completion discount.
I think a registry thread would be a good idea too so we can all share ideas!
  • @bserena I was thinking about the same thing. I’m telling my boss tomorrow during our weekly one-on-one we have scheduled. I have a couple of ladies at work that will be really excited to hear the news. I’m friendly outside of work with a group of others but I don’t share EVERY detail of my life with them. I figured, if it comes up in conversation, cool or if I see them in person, obviously. But until I’m closer to being off for MAT leave, I might not necessarily jump up with the info. I’m also 100% teleworking right now, so it poses a unique barrier to having an organic conversation about it. But I’m also not a super fussy person.

Although, we had a virtual happy hour last week and one of my coworkers that’s pretty new so I’m not really close with at all made a comment about “so when are you and your husband going to start having kids?” I thought to myself “LOL uh, 11 weeks ago actually” but I just laughed it off instead and asked when he and his wife would be having more.

I plan to tell my boss this week or early next week. I'll tell our President right after. Then I was thinking of telling the rest of our immediate team at our weekly team call, and the rest of the company will have to figure it out on their own 😅
  • lindz42lindz42 member
@bserena I plan to tell my bosses next week. Then I plan to post an announcement on social media. I'm friends with enough coworkers, so I'm sure the news will spread within the next couple of months. We are also working remotely, and I'm not someone who likes to announce my personal business in large groups, so I'm not comfortable starting that conversation with everyone during the morning Zoom meeting.
  • @bserena I’ve told my team lead and boss but otherwise I haven’t necessarily told my co-workers. It’s not impacting my ability to get things done. My boss is making sure my work is scheduled such that I’ll finish it prior to maternity leave. To me it’s the same almost as vacation or leave. As it becomes more relevant I’ll make sure people know but to me there’s no bearing to our current work.
  • Re: telling work - I told my principal really early because it was right when all the shutdowns started and I thought it might be relevant. I told my superintendent a few weeks ago via email because a face to face meeting didn't seem likely. I've told a few co-workers who I am close with, or have seen at school, but otherwise just figure the word will get around. I feel pretty awkward announcing to a group like that in person, let alone in a Zoom meeting! Not gonna happen! I have been getting a laugh out of the idea that I might show up to a beginning of the year staff meeting in August in my 3rd trimester and there be some coworkers who didn't even know I was pregnant!

  • @hedgepig I’ve been thinking the same! A few of my coworkers know, but I’m at a new school this year and my principal is retiring. I’ll have to navigate the HR side of things, but I think I will show up pretty obviously pregnant in August (assuming we’ll be going back like normal) and surprise a lot of people. Hopefully everything is a smooth process but we’ll see.

Thank you for your responses! We are back in the office as of this week and I guess I will just let everyone speculate on my growing stomach  :D

  • So I’m 16 weeks and my husband and I went in for a gender reveal and are very conflicted. The nurse at first said “he” a few times and then seemed to be trying to reassure herself when she finally told us it was a girl. We both were thinking boy the whole ultrasound and even looking at these pictures so we’re just confused. We’re just looking for other opinions?
