What what are your thoughts about fetal dopplers? Pros/cons? Does anyone have one? What kind did you get?
I bought a Doppler early at like 7+5 weeks! I first found little bean’s heart beat at 8+2 which was super exciting because it was quite early! I find it every time I look now but I don’t do it everyday. I agree with many that if you are going to stress when you can’t find it, don’t get one. I promised myself as soon as I ordered it that I wouldn’t let it be an extra source of stress/anxiety. Honestly, I think it’s a personal preference and depends on how well you can handle things. It gave me peace of mind in the early weeks without having any real pregnancy symptoms. Pros: I love being able to check on things especially with appointments seeming to be extra spaced out with COVID. FTM here so it’s added reassurance for me. It’s super fun to find it and listen to everything going on inside! There are lots of YouTube videos that help explain best ways to find the heartbeat. Cons: If you’re heavier set, I hear it’s harder to use and find the heartbeat. With babies getting more active now, they may move around, making it harder to find quickly. It could add stress/anxiety if you don’t find it. If you have a retroverted uterus, it can be much harder.

I got the sonoline-B from babydopplers.com I think. It’s easy to use! Came super fast!

@3xmamabear sorry to hear that. Do you have to take medication or just dietary changes while monitoring?
  • @vetgirl2011 I'm weighing whether or not I want to buy one right now. On the one hand I know if I cant find the HB I'll be so stressed but on the other hand with appointments stretched out I would just love to be able to check on the LO at home. But I'm not a professional so I worry I'll be terrified at finding it lol.
  • Kind of a dumb question, but how does everyone feel about sun bathing? I’m very very pale, so I don’t lay out for long if I do, and I ALWAYS wear sunscreen. But with the weather finally getting nicer (we hit the 70s today!!) I’m curious if it’s safe. I’ve read different things online, some say yes in moderation, others say no bc UV can break down folic acids. Just wondering what y’all thought and if STM had any input on it! Thank you☀️
  • Anyone know of any websites where we could buy cute stylish maternity clothes at a decent price? I keep seeing so many ads on instagram but all these sites seem like scams.
  • @kelk5 just diet so far,I have a virtual appointment Monday to see what needs to be done
  • @1sttimemomma98 I don’t know the answer to that one.

@shirkbaz I don’t want to come across as snarky. I asked that question under another thread. I’ll tag you.
  • @Ecat504 I swear you have a big event coming and I think it’s May 6th but I can’t remember. I wanted to send you a shout out!

This may be a strange question but no one is understanding what I’m saying...I am 13w3d, FTM, and my nausea has eased significantly. I still have some bloating and uncomfortable symptoms, but I don’t “feel” pregnant. Basically up unti, this point, I have felt absolutely terrible which to me = pregnant. I’m not really showing too much (could be a baby, could be bloat) and it’s too early to feel movement etc, so I have nothing I can point to that would be like THIS is proof you’re pregnant. I don’t know, I just feel weird I guess and I spent so long adjusting to feeling awful that not feeling awful is almost unsettling.
  • @achs from my previous experience with DD, I had symptoms that made me feel like crap for weeks and then at 14w4d after suffering a 3-day migraine I never had another symptom and still no bump.  It was definitely unsettling at first, however it is why they basically call the 2nd trimester the honeymoon of pregnancy.  You literally feel great.  You are within days of the 2nd trimester, so I wouldn't worry too much and just try to enjoy not feeling so terrible! <3

@jaclyn0405 thank you. I know that’s what everyone says! My mom always told me horror stories about how bad she felt bc she had hyperemesis gravidarum so anytime I feel ok it feels “wrong” from what I know about pregnancy. I also worked for an Obgyn for years and answered calls with questions just like my own, but it’s just different when it’s yourself I guess.
  • @1sttimemomma98 I have been pregnant twice during the summer and have always enjoyed the outdoors and swimming! We are also beach people too so we go quite a lot. I’ve always used sunscreen and have definitely laid out while pregnant...well more like sat in a chair because laying down wasn’t very comfy 😂 but I have a healthy 8 year old and 3 year old, who both looooove the beach now too. Enjoy the relaxation momma! 💜
  • @1sttimemomma98 +1 to going out and enjoying the sun! I was KU'd with DS in the summer. I just wore a 1 piece bathing suit and would cover my belly with a towel. You really just don't want to let your body get overheated so as long as you're taking breaks and cooling off at points then enjoy the sun!
  • @achs you should check with your OB to see if they will allow you to come in a do a fetal Doppler check to calm your nerves. My OB said that I could come in anytime to do one. It’s nice knowing that that is available.

I didn’t have any symptoms for a couple of weeks and bam Friday super nauseated and throwing up. So I guess baby is saying hi!
  • achsachs member
@potofgolden I know that I could do that, but with all the current dr restrictions I feel like I’d absolutely be taking advantage. They’re limiting how many patients can come in per day so I really don’t feel like I should be taking one of those spots for something that’s not entirely rational. I still don’t feel 100% like me - I have plenty of symptoms but it’s just the absence of nausea that makes me feel apprehensive.

@achs at my appointment Friday I told my doctor “I feel great!! But now I don’t feel pregnant!” She laughed and said that’s common and to enjoy second trimester, she also did an ultrasound and baby was moving all around with a great hb. I’m sure it’s fine but you could call your OB? Or maybe mention it at an upcoming appointment?

@wychets my next appointment is next Friday so I’ll definitely bring it up. I also just know it’s most likely me just trying to be in control of something that’s beyond my control. Glad to know you also shared the same feeling!
  • @achs buy a fetal doppler if it helps :)
  • @achs you’re the mom. If YOU feel like something is off do something. If you think you’re over reacting(?)...still ask is my opinion. This is fourth babe for me. I freaked out because of lack of symptoms and ran in for an ultrasound. The doctor was super understanding.  In my opinion...moms just know things. Trust yourself. Don’t think oh but I’m taking advantage...IMHO. Just go with your gut. I’ll spare details but bottom line trust yourself.
  • Ok. Seriously what are you drinking? Every so often PRE-PREGNANCY I really enjoy an occasional gin martini or beer or wine... I’ve tried so much ginger flavors pregnant that I kind of hate it. This time I’ve purchased non alcoholic beer. I’m not loving any of them. Any yummy suggestions???
  • @name1109 if you haven't tried the relatively new Heineken 0.0% beer, it is really good! I was pleasantly surprised! I also pretend on the weekends lol, and make myself some mocktails.  Pineapple mojitos sans the alcohol, grapefruit juice with club soda for the fizz, etc.  I am also a big Ningxia red fan and usually make up some concoction with that and my EO oils and feel like I am transported to an island without the hangover lol!
  • @name1109 Pre-pregnancy I liked to drink hoppy/hazy IPAs and Spanish reds. I was drinking ginger beer for while, but I’m kinda fizzling on that one. Kombucha is nice now because it’s cold/bubbly/tart. It does have a bit of caffeine, though, so that’s something to keep in mind.
  • @name1109 I like sparkling water and lime juice, sometimes with a bit of apple or other fruit juice for a touch of sweetness.

  • @name1109 I've been drinking water with lemon juice. It doesn't help with my cravings for margaritas and wine though. I was planning on making mock margaritas soon!
  • achsachs member
@name1109 that was my whole point though- I don’t feel like something is off, I feel fine. I was speaking to how my anxiety was messing with me, not actually having a feeling something was wrong.
  • @dumbledoredies girl, I am with you! I want a margarita soooooo bad! I can’t do a mocktail for that though because I don’t like mix and if I took the alcohol out of a real margarita, all I would have is ice, lime, and salt. 😭

@achs I totally understand where you're coming from, because I feel the exact same way. The last couple days I haven't had any naseau, and now I'm worried something is wrong. At least with the naseau I felt like baby was ok, but without my anxiety has kicked into high gear and I'm worried about everything! I have an appointment with my OB next week so just trying to stay calm and tell myself it's normal to loose the naseau at this stage...

For those who have done NIPT so far, how long did it take for you to get your results? Mine is with Panorama/Natera. It's been 7 days and I am just super impatient, lol!
  • mimsermimser member
@bserena It's been 7 business days for me (Harmony) and I am dying... I'm gonna leave a message for my doctor in a few minutes and email the clinic who did the test... I think my fiancé is gonna call because he can't stand the way I've been acting...
  • bserenabserena member
@mimser I totally just called the lab that did mine... the lady I spoke with really didn't tell me anything. She pretty much said "it can take around a week from the time we received it, so check with your doctor at the end of this week". Not helpful, but maybe Harmony will give you more info? I haven't called my OB because I don't want to be a bother but I really want to know
  • mimsermimser member
@bserena Well I left a voicemail for my doctor while I emailed the clinic that did the test. A few minutes later, the clinic replied saying they didn't get my result back from the California lab, that it seems that they are experiencing some delay, and expect it by tomorrow afternoon or Friday afternoon at the latest... I then called back my doctor to say to ignore my previous message. So at least I'll get some sleep tonight, and maybe tomorrow 😅
  • bserenabserena member
@mimser haha well that is something at least! Glad your clinic was more forthcoming :) hopefully we will both get results soon!
  • Ugh, same. My other kids I felt like I was exhausted all the time and this kid I'm laying awake not able to fall asleep, and then waking frequently in the night and/or not able to fall back asleep. I'm 12 wks and no end in sight of this. I just imagine once the aches and pains get worse, my sleep quality will go further down.
  • @bserena @mimser Mine said 7-10 business days, so my nurse made my appt to get the results for 10 business days after, which was agony, as I am sure the results were back sooner. But, maybe not? Anyways, I got them 10 days after the blood draw.

  • @name1109 last pregnancy I bought a bottle of Fré. Non-Alcoholic wine around the 3rd Tri. I never got the urge to open it. I eventually just trashed it because I could drink the real thing. Now I need to go find it again! I’m not sure how it tastes.
I’ve also tried a Guinness NA beer at wedding open bar.
The best light beer I have had is called Texas Select, but I’m not sure where all you can buy it.
Yesterday I went to out to eat with DH and asked if they had any NA beer, they told me they had Shirley Temple 🤦🏼‍♀️.
My favorite mock tail is a Virgin Bloody Mary!
  • @potofgolden just here to say how jealous I am that you were able to GO OUT TO EAT YESTERDAY! Gahhhh i long for the day!
  • mimsermimser member
@jaclyn0405 @potofgolden I'm also like "Wow, going out to eat, maybe in 2021 for me"
  • Loving the beverage ideas. I tried a few non alcoholic beers while breastfeeding since I heard the malty ones helped with production and I didn't want to go overboard with alcohol. Didn't love the taste, but I'm a little more desperate now. I've never heard of non-alcoholic wine so might have to try it!

@mamabeario25 I'm having trouble sleeping as well. I was exhausted with my first but that hasn't been too much of an issue - great for being able to work during the day, not great for staying asleep at night. I know once I'm unable to sleep on my back and the middle of the night bathroom breaks start, it's only going to get worse!

@bserena My Panorama results took 10 calendar days to get back. Waiting is the worst.
