I don’t really do makeup/hair so I feel like I’ll bring some mascara and blush so I don’t look like a zombie but who knows what I’ll actually do! and I’m bringing comfy clothes and my blanket for sure. Probably won’t get any fancy gowns, hospital one is fine for me.

@Louise_Belcher yasssss hot rollers lol we need to see the post-birth glam!

  • @greyl I am with you on just using the hospital supplied gown during birth. It gets gross and I don’t want to have to bring that gross home to wash.

And I love my hot rollers. I am completely inept at using a curling iron.  :D

  • @Louise_Belcher exactly! They’re pricey too I would much rather buy myself (another) sweatshirt and some sweatpants! I honestly have never tried hot rollers but I feel like they would be so nice. I’m bad at curling my own hair too, I barely do anything with mine so I’ve been cutting it short like to my chin because it’s easier for me. But of course now I’m overdue for a hair cut.
  • I actually just tidied up my hair this evening lol

  • I can’t stay in the hospital gown and as soon as they tell me I can shower I’m there. My first I wore my own clothes and bathed, but didn’t do my hair or makeup. My second I did something with my hair and put on some mascara and concealer. I just felt so much better. I got cute pajamas and felt so much more confident, especially with having visitors.
  • Right now I think I'll want to shower as soon as they say I can and let Daddy have some quality time with his girl, but who knows lol
I want a nice fancy robe to wear, but probably just because I won't want to wear anything so I'll at least be able to cover up a bit for company. Like I wear nothing around the house ever and so I won't want to shove myself in clothes until I go home!

I'm contemplating buying some Thinx underwear though to wear after the fact, just because pads are uncomfortable and because they're eco-friendly period underwear. I'm looking at their max absorbency ones right now. Has anybody explored similar options?
  • edited April 2020
I didn't bring any makeup last time and regretted it! Not sure we'll he able to have visitors this time but you never know.

@raesky1111 last time postpartum I used GladRags overnight absorbency pads. They're washable and reusable. The GladRags to me were much less smelly and more cozy than the disposable ones.
  • I totally agree with everyone. I used hospital gown for birthing and when we got moved to our recovery room 2 hours after delivery I changed into a nursing tank, kimono type sweater and pj pants. This time we have already decided no matter what the current rules are we will have no visitors. For our oldest I had no clue how awful I looked lol so if you have visitors makeup even just enough to feel normal is a great idea. I might do it this time too.

@raesky1111 I’m at least going to buy some disposable underwear for home. It’s crazy how nice it is just to throw it all away and I was surprised I liked the hospital style.
  • I still have the mesh hospital underwear 😂 they're comfy!

  • @raesky1111 I used depends for each of my previous pregnancies and in the beginning I used depends with a super pad in them and a padsicle on top. That worked great and I will do that again.

  • @raesky1111 I used the always disposable underwear after birth and they were great! I didn’t have to worry about a thick pad and things shifting. It was like an adult diaper. I will do it again.
  • Regarding showering; I got to my room about 8pm after delivery and wanted to sleep. The next day I had visitors in and out all day and I was exhausted. I hadn’t even showered yet, why I have no idea? I guess I was in a funk? My friend who is a 4 time mom came and said girl get up we’re getting you a shower you’re going to feel so much better and holy heck she was right. So this time around first thing I’m doing is taking a shower! I will bring makeup; my routine now is light; CC cream, blush, basic eyeshadow, mascara and lip gloss. I will for sure do those things just to feel better. I wore the hospital gown the entire time and again... what was I thinking? I will buy a nice two piece set of pajamas to wear. I feel like I’m going to go into this second delivery being much more prepared for the hospital.
  • Ooof those look perfect and I'm happy that the listing states postpartum - it shows that the developers really thought of more than just a heavy flow period.

My SO, interestingly enough is open to having visitors in hospital if they'll be allowed, but for the first two months after we come home he says we're not going anywhere and nobody is coming over 😂 I get that he doesn't want a heavy stream of visitors, but I might ask if auntie Sharon and uncle Em can be an exception 😂 everyone else can deal with video calls
  • I stayed in the hospital gown until the morning I checked out last time. I think this time I’d like to change sooner. I was just so tired and afraid to move much lol. But it would have definitely been more comfortable in different clothes. (Black. All black. Don’t want stains on nice things lol)

  • @raesky1111 It's probably an OU but with previous births I wanted hospital visitors after a couple hours. I got so bored just sitting there in that room with H and a new baby. The visitors were a nice distraction to just being trapped in a room. Life will be very different this time, but with my second I was out grocery shopping with him when DS2 was 2 days old. I had been trapped in the hospital room for 3 days and was happy to get back out in the world. I cannot imagine there will be hospital visitors allowed this time.

  • Also if anyone wants 2 samples of Depends here is a link. I did it previously so I cannot get another sample, but they worked so well and you can see what size fits which is nice. If it is the same as a few years ago you get a nude and a black.

  • I don’t like visitors, but I DO feel better when I get up, shower, and make myself presentable! I think it totally depends, too, on what time of day you have baby/how long you’ve labored, etc. Our first was born around noon and I wasn’t running off to shower or anything, 2 and 3 were born at night so I snuggled them and got a little rest and showered in the morning/got ready as usual and it felt so good! I feel blah in the gown.
  • IF we are even allowed visitors, I’ll probably leave that decision until after baby comes. There’s a chance we will be staying with H’s parents for a few months after we move to get our bearings in order. So if we will be staying with them I’ll probably want it to be just the three of us in hospital so we have that “alone” family bonding time. Because when we head home we definitely won’t be completely alone.

I can’t believe intros are already starting in January 2021! Also we are almost halfway through our product spotlights 🙈 time is flying
  • Guess who totally forgot about the rescheduled appointment and completely missed it today because sleep? 🤦‍♀️ I'll have to call tomorrow and apologize and re-reachedule it and probably pay no-show fees which is totally fine because it's my fault. I just feel like such a dummy for it!
  • @greyl I can’t believe the Jan board is open! I feel like the first half goes by slowly because of morning sickness and exhaustion but then the second half flies by! It’s seriously going to be Sept before we know it.

  • @robyn2201 it’s so crazy!! I want it to go by fast because I want to meet and cuddle this baby but I also want to enjoy this time because I’m so grateful to be carrying him. I also want to have enough time to fully prepare for him (as much as I can).
  • Pulled out non clothing baby stuff today: my infant car seat expires in May 2021.... seriously not what I wanted to see; trying to save money on already on hand items ! Plus it’s in good condition, basically brand new! I thought they lasted longer; it’s only been 5 years since it was made!

Soooo now my dilemma is do I use it for the 7 months then switch to a convertible seat?! Do I just buy a new infant seat (which seems like such a waste)?

I can’t remember at which point I switched my son to a covertible seat- maybe around age 1. So we have the seats to switch to and would buy my son a harness booster to move up to.

I Kinda feel like use the seat for 7 months, switch him to the convertible Seat and then I guess I would carry him or use a stroller to tote him in.

I just love the convenience of snapping the car seat in a base stroller and going!
  • @robinj716 We switched our first two kiddos to a convertible seat around six months. They both hated their infant seats and screamed when they were in them. They were much happier once we switched. I would say just switch once your infant seat expires.

  • @robinj716 I also say switch to the convertible. I think we waited until 8 or 9 months but could have done it earlier.  They start getting cramped in the infant seat anyway.
  • @robinj716 I would use the one you have and switch to a convertible seat before it expires. Both of my kids got squished pretty early especially my second and were happier to sit more upright and have space.

  • Yikes @greyl! Good luck with all that! Crazy time to be moving but hope it's for the best.

Also, related to our earlier discussion re: hospitals/hygiene. I can't remember - I should bring all my own toiletries, right? It's not like a hotel situation, is it?
  • Yikes @greyl! That wild. What do you guys do that is transferring?

@jennifer_louise I brought travel size with me in the past of the things H and I needed. I don’t remember them supplying any toiletries.

  • @jennifer_louise thank you! It’s definitely scary and a weird time to be moving but they want us out there soon so I guess it’s moving fast. Still will have to work out logistics like if we need hotels and such and a whole lot more. I’m starting to slightly panic haha plus I have to find a new midwife 😩
  • @Louise_Belcher definitely wild! We work in restaurant management (for the same company) so it’s an easy transfer to other locations
  • I just skimmed through our intros and realized that our group is still really tiny. I just want to know how many people lurk frequently but never post 🤨 and I worry about those who did post and then stopped ☹️
  • @greyl I think with how crazy the times are people might have just fallen off due to that. Hoping some people pop back in with anatomy scans happening!

I don’t think I ever did the intro post lol I’m glad we do have a group engaged it’s really helped me a lot this pregnancy.
  • Eh, I figure we have a core group and others will come and go

  • @greyl how weird, I did the exact same thing yesterday! It was a nice refresher on the names I recognize - but yeah, so so many who I don't know!

@ktholysz well, a belated welcome to the group 😆. Stick around, won't ya??
  • Another thing that surprises me is that we don't have much of the regular daily posts like WTF weds, UO Thurs, FFFC etc (maybe bc we don't have a huge participation??)
  • @jennifer_louise that's what I'd assume

  • I think one of the nice things about having a smaller group is that you really get to "know" everyone

  • I made cookies yesterday and a tiny piece of dough fell on my bare foot and just the way it landed it looked exactly like a mole.  For some reason it struck me funny and I couldn't stop laughing, while DH just looked at me like I'd lost my head.

For some reason lately I've been getting the giggles about the randomest stuff, and can't stop laughing till I'm breathless and tears are running down my face!  The new me is so strange haha!
