Happy birthday, Sam!!! ❤️ @DDRRT1982 How is she adjusting to life as a big sister?
  • Options
She’s great!  However, she’s all over him all the time.  No jealousy or insecurity, she’s just kind of rough and won’t leave him alone.  He’s either going to love her or hate her for the first year.  She didn’t like Jack, my now 3 year old, because he was kind of rough with her, but they are good friends now.

Happy Birthday to my sweet boy! No big party for a couple weeks because big brother is in Aladdin and it’s taking up all of our time.
We went shopping and he got some new zoo animals, he got pizza for lunch, we had hot dogs and carrots for dinner, and ice cream with chocolate and peanuts For dessert- all his request. He hates cake!

Is it madness by everyone else? How’s everyone holding up?

I bought groceries Wednesday night for 3 weeks. I went before it got too crazy. We are now off school until the 6th of April. My 6 year olds Kindergarten  teacher sent home a packet of worksheets and my 6th grader is doing google classroom and getting assignments through there. I also have extra science experiments we can do. Trying to take it a day at a time. We are mostly worried about my husbands Chiropractic office and if it’s going to be ok.

Oh, @megpeg I hope it is ok. I hope all these measures work sooner than later so everything gets back to normal. I don’t ever remember anything like this.
  • Options
@megpeg good luck to you guys!

We haven’t closed schools here yet. But we’re expected to have packets ready to go on Tuesday during our long workday. No cases here, but there are some where my husband works an hour away. He’s been home with the flu and is nervous to go back.

We just closed for two weeks. I have a lot of prep work to do now.

I teach in NYC, and we just closed until 04/20 - crazy. We're transitioning to remote learning over the next week. A parent at the girls' day care is being tested, so that's shutdown temporarily (not that they'll need to go any time soon).  I think these are necessary measures and I'm not personally panicking, but I am worried about my mom, who has lupus and isn't great at respecting her medical limits. These are fully wild times.

@ashtuesday and @mccurleya good luck with all the prep and distance learning. It will be interesting to see how it works and will hopefully not add any days to your year. They closed the schools here indefinitely and are doing distance learning. My building for now is closed to the public (which is crazy because we are literally a public building) but we all have a feeling we may shut down after tomorrow. I’m more confused then scared. There are cases in towns next to where I work and some next to the town we live in. I agree @ashtuesday wild times.

@megpeg did your husband business have to close or just take extra precautions?

@shoretobe They have not closed. They are taking extra cleaning measures to be safe. He wants us to get adjusted every other day to keep our systems working at maximum potential.

We had to have an emergency meeting after church today to make tough decisions. DH and I are both heads of different boards. Our church runs a daycare that has been shutdown due to covid 19. We are trying to make sure the employees are taken care of while we can. Many have found in home jobs with families that come to the daycare and others have found families outside of that(a  church member that owns a business is trying to set his employees up with daycare workers that haven’t found a job yet.)

So nice to read about people pulling together and looking out for each other. Good luck, @megpeg

@ashtuesday hopefully your mom will take precautions.

I’m not worried for myself or Nate, but my grandma lives in Spain so I’m a little worried about her.  She doesn’t like to worry people so I don’t think she’d tell me if she got sick. And I can’t go visit her even if I wanted to.

@me@megpeg I hope everyone gets taken care of. We have some parents here too that I imagine won’t be able to find childcare. And then I think of all the restaurant workers who won’t be able to pay their bills without their tips. Crazy times for sure.

I decided on trying to potty train since we are at home for at least three weeks with out having to run the older kids here and there all day long.

@megpeg & @ashtuesday I’m starting Thursday! I work until Wednesday and then work from home so I figured it was a good time as well! It helps that the local Walmart is out of diapers and wipes 🙄
  • Options
@shoretobe How are you doing with all this?  Being pregnant adds another variable to what already all feels so uncertain.
  • Options
No one has size 5 or 6 diapers here either. I have 30 disposables which are only for at night.
i have my cloth that I used on my other kids so that has now been pulled out and he’s not a fan. I didn’t use it before because we are constantly gone at the other kids stuff and it was hard.

@megpeg well let’s all hope they potty train really well so we can stick it to the people that took our diapers and wipes 😂

I didn’t even realize about diapers and wipes because I had just bought before all this! It’s amazing the things you can’t find. Good luck with potty training! Keep us posted.

@ashtuesday - thank you for asking. I had an appt. yesterday and the doctors don’t seemed concerned about this at all. I actually have to go sit at LabCorp tomorrow for the 1hr glucose test. They are insisting I go THIS week (I’m 25weeks). I guess if they’re not worried I’m not going to. The municipal building I work at is closed to the public (as is pretty much every municipal building, I think). Since DH and I are still working we’re only sending Maeve to my parents since their schools are closed. I do feel bad because it feels like my mom is more worried about me then I am. Once a mom, always a mom I guess. I think I’ll start to worry if this goes on for months and gets closer to my due date since who knows what hospitals will be like.

How’s everyone doing with homeschooling and virtual teaching? I do not envy any of you having to come up with those lesson plans.

Is everyone limiting interactions? Except for changing Maeve’s babysitter routine everything is the same but not.  Life feels much much quieter...less people on the road, no one in my office, no one at the coffee shop, no Target runs 😂....anyone I’ve rambled enough. Everyone, stay well and safe!!

@shoretobe "If they're not worried, I'm not worried" is a good mentality to have.  Thinking about you - at least social distancing means extra chances to soak up time as a family of three before baby comes!

Virtual teaching is going well so far - we're just in the set-up phases (official DOE launch is Monday, but my school is striving for this afternoon) but it's simple enough.  We're really trying to manage our expectations and streamline things for the kids.

Everything has changed here - my husband and I are both working from home and our county is entirely shut down (only pharmacies, grocery stores, and gas stations are really permitted to be open - and restaurants doing take out/delivery only).  I think this is going to be the norm for a while.  Trying to keep things routine as possible, take the girls and dogs for walks, keeping the house clean, etc.  Trying to appreciate having time to focus on the little things that can get overlooked at home, even though the circumstances suck.

We are also launching Monday. It wasn’t too hard to prep things through the 31st. With the disabilities my kids have, I didn’t prep much busy work. Mostly videos to watch and answer questions about. We also made them a fun video of me catching a leprechaun yesterday. The only thing that’ll be difficult is getting work to kids without internet if this gets extended again.

My husband and I are both working from home too. I think it’ll be kinda nice to spend time as a family. I’m just not sure how I’m going to get my school work done with Nate around.

I don’t know how you teachers are doing it. My 6th graders teachers had everything figured out in a weekend and ready to go. I  must say I am not prepared to teach multiplying and dividing fractions but we are getting through it. He is doing awesome but always is at the top of his class and it doesn’t take him long to get the work done.

My kindergartener on the other hand is a mess. She is used to structure and socializing so this is killing her. She is a very angry human and we are trying to work on that. Her teacher reads a book every day on Facebook so we watch that and we have been doing abc mouse and worksheets and watching the Cincinnati zoo animal of the day.

To Declan he is loving having his siblings home but isn’t a fan of them having to do work and not play with him.

DH is still working as of now that could change but they will work as long as they can.

@megpeg ask her teacher what their daily schedule looked like and see if you can follow it as close as possible. You can also print a visual schedule for her to follow so she knows what to expect. I also have a schedule from a behavior group I follow that you could use with her every day to stay predictable.

Honestly, I feel like my brain can’t even comprehend that this is real life. Thank goodness for technology. I feel like most are really trying to help make it all as smooth as possible. You teachers are impressive and @megpeg so much credit and kudos to you for setting up homeschooling. Hope your daughter settles in to this new normal.
Oh! I was able to find diapers at Walmart online to be delivered next day - I’m sure you all tried that - I just might be lucky for the area I’m in.

    Nice! @shoretobe

we started potty training this morning. So far he’s peed twice and no accidents! But it’s only 10am. Haha we’ll see what happens when we go to my in laws later
  • Options
I was totally mistaken - they back ordered them...I can’t even believe this is real life. The doctor wants me to start taking iron and I can’t find it. What a world.

@mccurleya how did the rest of day 1 go??
  • Options
@shoretobe he peed on the potty two more times but had a lot of accidents. Today he’s peed through 4 pairs of pants and that was all before 8am. I went to Walmart and got him a potty we can sit in the living room. I really didn’t want one of those, but it’s worth a try I guess.

I semi abandoned potty training. He doesn’t even can that he gets candy after he goes.
my other 2 didn’t potty train until almost 3.
On the plus side my mom found 2 boxes of diapers today.

@mccurleya I think she just is an extrovert and needs to be with other people.

@megpeg Nate is loving the chocolate chips and applause. He’s peed on the potty 7 times today and pooped once. One pee was in the portable one because he wanted to keep watching tv haha

Declan has had a cold this week- cough, runny, nose, and hasn’t slept well so he is just plain crabby. We will keep working on it but the stress level for everyone this week is pretty high so I think that is wearing on him too.

They just extended our school being out until April 13th. I don’t have a clue what we’re going to do for kids who are doing work on paper. I have one parent who refuses technology in their house. Ugh. I’m really enjoying being home with my family, but the majority of my students are very bothered that they can’t come to school. 3 parents have already told me that their kid keeps asking when they’re going back and one cried out of frustration. I feel so bad for them. And I really don’t think we’ll go back this year.

We are only out until the 6th right now but they said salons are closed through the 13th. We will at least be out another week. Our Kindergarten teacher said she doesn’t think we will go back either.
