How are we all doing, mamas? Nora has a doozy of a cold right now that's making her extra needy and snuggly and mushy. I stayed home with her and Murph (who also has a cold, on top of finally cutting teeth!) yesterday, and it's breaking my heart to be away from them today!
Friday was my first day back at work after Christmas break and it’s actually nice so far. I was ready to go back. Two weeks with Nate was incredible, but I was definitely ready to get back in my routine.
I’m also doing a declutter challenge and it has been awesome to see my house turn into something I’m proud of now! My only worry right now is this stupid Iran stuff. I really don’t want DH to have to deploy to that.
@megpeg if you have Facebook, request to join Declutter Like a Mother 2020. It’s amazing!! She has videos and challenges for you to do just 30 minutes a day to declutter your bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and one other thing I can’t remember.
@mccurleya That makes one of us who was ready to go back - I could've used three more weeks. I'm sorry you have to worry about potential deployment. That clutter challenge sounds awesome! I follow Clean Mama and she has a January clutter challenge too, but we didn't even attempt it. Every time I declutter, I create sell and donate piles that just sit in our basement forever - it drives my husband nuts.
@ashtuesday well I’m definitely ready for the weekend. My para didn’t show up today or yesterday and I’m exhausted having these kids by myself. But I made myself take the piles out immediately. I can’t stand clutter and we don’t have a basement, garage, or attic for stuff to sit in. Which I guess can be a good thing
@shoretobe I got rid of baby clothes and it absolutely broke my heart, so I don’t blame you. Next January is still a go, but as of right now I think he’s home until then.
@megpeg Same! It's unfathomable how much space that all takes up.
Our whole family got hit by a stomach bug this week. 24-hours each for the rest of us, but Murph hadn't really recovered after a whole week and we landed in the hospital yesterday. They just ran tests, gave her meds, and sent us home. She is MUCH better today. Wowza, what a week!
@ashtuesday ugh hope you all are feeling better and Murph get well quick. My oldest was in the hospital with croup around that age and it was scary. I made black elderberry syrup and have been dosing everyone everyday. So far so good. i found one of Declan’s birthday presents today. I was at TJ Max and they had an Audi power wheel marked down to $50 and he was in love.
@ashtuesday glad everyone is doing well now. That’s scary!
@megpeg and @DDRRT1982 That is craaaaaazy. I’m not ready at all. We’re just going to the zoo though. Which is going to be amazing because Nate and I both loooooove animals of all kinds. What are the rest of you doing for the big 2?
I can’t even believe it. We were just figuring out their first birthdays!
We booked an overnight at Kalahari Resorts to take Maeve to the water park. It’s weird because I planned it for her actual birthday, but more so for a last kind of big thing for just the three of us. Until reading this I almost forgot that she is turning 2. The next day we’ll do dinner and cake with my family. Our other plan beginning with her birthday and over the next few months is to set up her “big girl” room and start transitioning her out of her current room/nursery.
@shoretobe I can’t wait to see his reaction to all the animals! The water park also sounds fun! Is it indoors? And awwww. Will she sleep in a toddler bed?
Don't even get me started on the impending second birthday!! Nora was born with two small strawberry marks - one on her neck and one on her shoulder - that the doctor said typically clear by the time kids are three. The one on her shoulder started fading right after she was born, but the one on her neck always stood out bright. You could see it clearly when her hair's in a ponytail, and I thought it was so cute and such a unique part of her. Two days ago, I realized how light that one is now too. It's almost gone, meaning my baby's not a baby anymore!! We'll be having a small Sesame Street party at home the weekend of Nora's birthday again. I'm totally stumped for gifts - it feels like we're still working through Christmas presents! One thing I am tempted by - Sesame Street Live is near us the week after her birthday, and it's a week I have off. I might take her so we can have a special day together.
@megpeg Oh my gosh, I'm sure the PowerWheels will be huge hit!!! How cool!!!
@shoretobe I've heard great things about Kalahari - have a great time!!! It's so nice to have time away for just the three of you. Good luck with the transition to her big girl room! We'll be working on a transition of our own soon - in April, Murph and Nora will start sharing a room. I don't know how it's going to go over, but we've already started trying to hype it up.
@mccurleya The zoo sounds like a great idea!!! What a nice way to spend the day!
I about died laughing the other night- Declan was climbing something and my DH told him to get down. Declan stopped and looked him right in the eye, pointed, and said “stop it!” Very sternly. I had to leave the room so he didn’t see me.
We have a small zoo here and got a membership last year. Declan loved the carousel and train ride they had. We have a pool and he loved it all last summer, my mother in law took us to a splash park in the fall and he loved it. Last weekend we went the a water park and he hated it. He monkey clung to DH like he was going to die. My 11 and 6 year old were having a ball so we stayed and he finally loosened up a little toward the end. DH and I leave for Mexico on Wednesday for 5 days. I am hoping maybe my mom can work some magic on getting rid of the paci, DH caves to fast when Dec starts crying.
@ashtuesday just do a party! At this age I doubt she’ll even notice if she gets gifts. And I’m sure everyone else will get her stuff. We’re doing the zoo specifically to not have a party. Haha
@megpeg Nate has been getting that way too! He starting telling me no yesterday. To just about everything... he’s also learned eye rolling.
@mccurleya - yes it’s indoors. If nothing else it will be an experience. We’re actually putting her into a queen size bed we had in the guest room (to become her room) that DH’s parents used like 4 times. It seemed silly to get rid of it just to buy another one in a few years. I think I’m going to do toddler size blankets though so she doesn’t get lost in there. Oh!!! Eye rolling!! I’m learning so much about my own facial expressions from my little copycat 😂
@ashtuesday good luck with the transition. I’d bet they’ll think it’s cool to be together. I second @mccurleya don’t worry about a gift - the party will be good and if you end up doing Sesame Live that could really be the gift.
@megpeg safe trip!! Glad Declan enjoyed the water park a little. I always find it funny what I think they’ll enjoy and what they do enjoy. Good luck with the paci. We still let her have them at night. First dentist appointment next week though so we’ll see what they say.
@shoretobe we have a queen in our guest room and I was thinking of transitioning him to that when we have another just for the sake of not having to buy two beds like you said.
Also, dentists!! Who has gone and is it really necessary right now? DH refuses to put Nate on his dental insurance plan because he thinks there’s no point. But every time we go to the doctor they ask me if we’ve gone yet and I have to say no.
@mccurleya Declan won’t go until he’s three. He doesn’t even want to open his mouth for me to brush his teeth let alone them. They said they might do a pretend check in July when my other 2 go just so he gets the idea.
@mccurleya I brought Nora in October. It seemed pretty pointless to me. She liked the dental hygienist, who brushed her teeth (but nothing like a normal adult cleaning). She was NOT a fan of the dentist's general vibe. She let him look in her mouth for 7 seconds and then kept saying "All done! BYE!"
@mccurleya we’re going to the dentist Friday for the first time - more or less for her to learn what it’s like. I’m not anticipating a lot of cooperation from her end 🤣She is good about wanting to brush her feet (read: suck on the brush then move it around a little).
We signed up for preschool this weekend which is wild because she’s not allowed to start until she’s exactly 2.5 and she’s not even 2 yet. She’ll have to miss the first two weeks, but we’ve heard good things about the school so we’re just happy to have her in a spot there.
How’s everyone else doing with the seemingly never-ending January?
@shoretobe I can’t believe it’s time for preschool either. I’m sending Nate when he’s 3 because my MIL teaches that’s class. I think if I can get him potty trained this summer they’ll probably take him in August before he’s 3.
January has been so rough. Everyone is sick except me which makes me extra caretaker. I ended up having to send Nate home with a coworker last week because I had class and all the family members that keep him have flu, strep, or flu and pneumonia. And now he has the flu 🤦🏻♀️
@mccurleya oh no!! That’s terrible and exhausting. I keep wishing for a good cold spell just to knock everything out. Hope everyone feels better soon so you can get a break.
I am just waiting for Declan to puke. My oldest got up and puked all over the dining room as we walked in the door from our plane landing at 11:30pm last night. I got that cleaned up and just laid down on the couch and my six year old walked out and puked luckily in a bowl. They are both feeling better today.
@megpeg oh goodness! I hope they’re better! DH is throwing up today too. It is crazy around my town. A student of mine went home with the flu today and other daycare kids from Nate’s daycare have the flu and pneumonia. It’s rampant!
Has it been cold by anyone? I keep thinking if it would just get cold it would kill off all the germs (which is probably not even even how science works).
I am doing well. 38w2d here. Just waiting on baby. I got my cerclage out two weeks ago and haven’t had any action, so maybe this baby is in for the long haul. That’s ok. It’s my last one, so I am more patient this time.
Wow @DDRRT1982 I can’t believe it’s been 38 weeks already! Congratulations. This year has been such a blur. Wishing you an easy few weeks and safe delivery.
Re: January Randoms
what is your declutter challenge? I am trying to do the same.
@ashtuesday hope the girls feel better and you don’t get it. That cold has made its way around our house.

can you believe we are talking about 2nd birthdays now?!? Sam turns two next month.
