Worried about Coronavirus? In a heavily affected area? Other related questions? I thought we'd make a thread to help us air any fears or reassurances!
I'm in the #2 area in the country for Coronavirus (my DH actually came home from China 24 hours before the virus hit Hong Kong in January, but he's okay!). I'm not personally worried about my own health if I get exposed, but I'm worried about the medical system getting way too overtaxed, which could spill over into difficulty getting care for people like pregnant women! I also feel for those who are working in industries that can't go remote, or can't just take PTO when they're sick.
If you're worried or have any comments, ideas, or word from your dr., post here!

Re: COVID/Coronavirus Thread
All this to say, we would still really love to do SOMETHING over break— is it too risky to head to a large indoor water park for a night or two? I know that really we are taking a chance anywhere.. If it matters we are extremely cautious about germs in general and wash well even when it’s not a bad time of year. Thoughts?

We are supposed to fly to the north east for Easter to see family but I'm beginning to wonder if we ought to change plans. And if not for me and DD, then for family like my 92 year old grandma. I would not want to be the carrier that gave her COVID-19!

I know the only people dying from it have underlying conditions so far, but I'm just nervous because we don't know stats on pregnant people. What if a pregnant person got it? If they fought it off, would the child be okay? Could they fight it off but lose the child? I don't want to give in to the hype and panic, but at the same time I don't want anything to happen to the bean either...
Where I live, there are mandatory 14-day quarantines for citizens travelling back from high risk countries, and non-citizens from those countries are currently barred from entering. I think if I wasn't pregnant I would probably find it all a bit kooky, but since I am preg, it actually gives me peace of mind.

I went shopping to the grocery store and Costco to get some non-perishable stuff. I'm not to worried about DH or I getting it, but if we are unable to leave the house for a bit because of a more wide spread issue we'll at least have food for that time.
Most of the colleges and universities have gone to online classes through spring break. I'm wondering if DH will have to work remotely from home soon. He works for a company that does work for Pitt athletics department. I wonder if work will be postponed. He takes public transport most days which worries me a little once they find cases here.
As for myself, I'm going to talk to my doctor tomorrow about Corona and see what she thinks, maybe come up with a plan of action for if I do get sick. I'll pass along any useful information!
I think we have decided to keep our preschooler home through the end of the month. It is just preschool and he only goes in the morning 4 days a week so I think we may try to just play it safe.

We're lucky in that our government is working on figuring out how to financially support the people who can't work for whatever reason during this.

i really can’t imagine how hard it’s going to be for some people...
-parents who rely on daycares/schools for childcare so they can work
-children who rely on school food for a good chunk of their nutrition/meals
-Those of us who have limited sick time/pto or none at all who won’t be able to pay bills if they can’t work.

On a side note: what are your doctors saying? I plan to ask at my next appointment but I’m wondering what you all are hearing. I’m just nervous of the effect on my unborn son.
I hope whatever is decided, it’s what’s best...
