Go for it! Trust you instinct, right? Of course, once she's born, make sure it's who you think really is, right? I think it's cool. I love unique and gender neutral names.
The level of ignorance and misogyny in this thread is STAGGERING
By all means, if you are going to resurrect a zombie thread, actually call out what you find to be ignorant and misogynistic as opposed a generic statement of faux indignation.
Up to you, its your kid, and like others said, the first thing that came to mind was Murphy Brown. I don't love it being honest and wouldn't use it as a first name myself, but it would probably be okay as a middle name.
@volgirl123 and @Itsagirl35 helpful tip.. Read the original post date which was over a year ago. She has obviously named the baby by now and probably doesn't need anymore advice on a zombie thread
My name is Pennie like the coin but spelled differently and I hate it cause I was always made fun of in school but I like it cause im the only one on earth who has that name and the way its spelled and I get a lot of compliments now that I am older.
just needed to say you certainly are not the only one of earth with this name & how it is spelt my mother's name is also Pennie.
also, i really really hope you dont name your little girl Murphy.
Really like the name Murphy for a girl. And it can be a girls name, Irish in origin. But it's largely used as a boys name. What do people think?
You can. An acquaintance of mine named her baby girl that, but it is a family name with a lot of meaning to them. I think it is cute. You do you and don't worry about what others think, there will always be someone who doesn't like something you are doing.

I realize this is an extremely old post but I was curious if you ended up naming your daughter Murphy or not...I'm a female and have been named Murphy for 38 years. Hated the name growing up...love it now...came across this thread looking online for other females with the name Murphy lol
I love the name Murphy! I am even considering naming my child that as well. I absolutely loved it from Interstellar, which is one of my favorite movies. I think it's time we moved on from saying that sounds too "masculine" or it should be more "feminine" because if you like the name, then do it! Who cares what other people think.

Despite this post being Ancient: I'm glad that you want your daughter to be mistaken for a boy her whole life. Why do that to her when there a a million awesome girl names?
