Glucose Screening

Re: Glucose Screening

  • @shamrocandroll thanks! I was honestly surprised since I passed the first 3hr they made me do at 24 weeks.

In anyone's experience does this typically mean more frequent appointments or NSTs? I'm 31 weeks right now and am on the every 2 weeks schedule. My next appt is monday so I suppose they will tell me then, but I'm just curious.

  • @randic22 For myself this is my second GD pregnancy. My office is a large provider (1 of 3 main ones) in my area and they have every department you can imagine. So I have my PCP, then I go to the OBGYN department for all things pregnancy. When I was diagnosed with GD I was sent to the "Diabetes Clinic" in Endocrinology. So on top of my every 2 week OB appointments I had about 4 or 5 appointments with the Endo/dietitians. I was able to keep everything diet controlled just by tracking my meals and testing my blood sugar at home. The Endo tested my A1C a couple times in the third tri. I had no NST's, no extra ultrasounds, no growth scans, no biophysical profiles. The OB wanted to schedule an induction 3 days prior to my due date because of the GD (even though I was diet controlled), when she previously had said she was fine letting me go overdue.

This time around I have the same OB, I was diagnosed with GD two weeks ago and just had my first appointment with her since the diagnosis. My numbers have been great and she is good with me skipping the Diabetes clinic this time around and she will check my logs every 2 weeks, as long as my numbers stay fine. She is fine with it mostly because I am more responsible with my diet and testing than other patients she has seen, and also I have done this before with no issues.

  • @m6agua thanks for the insight! On the phone the nurse mentioned I would hear from the diabetes clinic to schedule an apt within a week and that I would most likely be diet controlled.

I had GD with my first, really shocked I passed the one hour recently seeing as I failed it at 18 weeks, but passed the 3 hour at 20 weeks. For me with DD, they did an extra ultrasound around 32 weeks to check on fluid levels (this was when I found out she was breech). I had one NST but that was because I hadn't felt much movement and I was worried. I've been a part of a GD facebook group for awhile and it seems it depends on the practice you're with, some require weekly NSTs after 32 weeks and some require nothing at all. I had to meet with a dietitian and send her my food/BS logs every Monday for her to review, other than that everything was normal as I was diet/exercise controlled. If I needed insulin I would have to transfer to the OBs instead of MW and they would induce me by 38/39 weeks. Diet controlled I could go until 40 weeks. Because DD was breech I ended up with a CS at 39 weeks anyhow.
  • @randic22 sorry about the test results. It all depends on the pracrice. I had it last time and had to meet with the dietician weekly to go over my food/bs logs and it was nice in the begining because she'd give me tips on what changes might help, but they got tedious towards the end. I didn't do any extra u/s or nst and went 41+4 before being induced. It's not horrible, makes you think about your food choices more, but totally doable. Good luck!
  • @thepretzelchick, good luck! Bring some snacks to munch right after!

I had my 3 hr glucose test last Saturday morning and I have yet to hear back. No news is good news...right?

  • @queenklau I keep granola bars and a case of water in the car for emergencies, so I'll dig into that on my way to the burrito place, lol
  • @queenklau Yay!!

@thepretzelchick I'll be heading to Dunkin for something eggy and cheesey.

The lab tech pulled up the script, saw the three hour and just said "oh I'm sorry honey". 🤣 I know all of these seniors in the waiting room are jealous of my orange EasydeX.
  • @louessbee I strongly suggest megafoods blood builder for iron. It does wonders with out adding to constipation.
  • @jhysmath Thanks for the rec!
