@ziggymama06 the box was for completely filling out the registry and making a 10+ purchase from it. Our purchase was the 11$ "Big Sister" shirt we got for DD for our announcements. I'd say it was worth the 11 spent with a onsie, a muslin swaddle, a small bottle, a medium sized package of water wipes, a sample of newborn pampers little snugglers diapers, a load's worth of deft laundry detergent, a small sample of baby wash, and some disposable breast pads (to wear in your bra in case you leak).
I will likely actually use all of the items from the box eventually so none of it will go to waste, and the muslin has a very neutral and cute black and white zebra design on it(like the animal, not the print). I'd have gladly spent the 11 dollars on it if that's what it had costed alone, and it's nice I really love muslin swaddles and this will be one less I don't have to purchase.
Friday when my daughter went to the school dance her friend snuck alcohol in. Well my daughter didnt drink but she did hide.the alcohol for her friend at times.
So they have my kid on video. They transferred my daughter to basically the bad kids school. She will be going there the next 30 school days.
I just am so angry and shocked. Idk what to do. My kid lied to my face all weekend how she had no part in it. But the ap called me Monday to say they have her on camera.
I had to take her to her new school sign her in and sit for a parent orientation. Now she has to be taken to school at 8:30 every morning. I feel so stressed and disappointed.
I was so proud when she told me she told her friend no but now I know its all lies. The rest of this week I have 2 more meetings. One witg the old school and one with her new school because she recieves soecial education services for her ADHD.

@cornichonmam omg this is such a tease! I've been craving pancakes but every time I go out to breakfast somewhere they just have french toast or waffles, no pancakes. I love both of those things but I just want a small single pancake to go with my eggs. Might have to make my own tomorrow
@ziggymama06 haha thank you! I'm a planner by nature (and profession... I'm an event planner) so I almost can't help myself, plus I find it really fun. I think this has been mentioned here before but I've found Lucie's List to be a great resource and they have a google sheets doc with all their recs that's I've found helpful as I'm building my registry. The bbhugme is filled with a bean bag like material, so it contours to your body (and you can move the beads around so it's thicker in some places than others). I also use it on the couch to prop me up (my couch is super deep) and as well as when I want to be propped up to read in bed (you can wrap it around you). Apparently you can also use it as a nursing pillow, though it's quite big for that. Not sure I'm describing it super well, but being able to see my friend's in action helped me see it was the right option for me. There are youtube videos out there that show how it works and that might be helpful to see if it checks all the boxes for you. There are so many good options out there and really just seems to be about personal preference/sleep style.
@RedBaramid that situation sounds stressful. FX crossed you can get in somewhere for peace of mind and it's not too costly. Do you mind sharing what came in your Amazon welcome box? I'm trying to decide if I should request mine now or wait until it's a little bit closer. Every time I'm in Target I'm tempted to pick mine up
ETA: the thread moved fast and just realized I missed your post about what was in it!
@psychobutthead I’m sorry your daughter has you stressed. The school seems to be taking really strong action considering her role was so minor. Congrats on your baby boy btw! 💙
@RedBaramid that box sounds great! Sorry about your liver enzymes. Hopefully the GI MD can see you soon and give you more details. Fingers crossed it’s a fluke.
To everyone considering a Doppler - here is a photo of the brand I have. I can’t find the link on amazon. I’ve used mine twice so far and found the heartbeat within a couple minutes both times (13 weeks and 14.5 weeks). I use it with the headphone jack and I find it easier to hear. As a side note I’m also a nurse and have listened for pulses on many patients so I might just be used to listening through the white noise
@tara4910 texas schools don't play when its come to drugs and alcohol. Her friend is their even longer since she was drinking.

@psychobutthead this situation sounds really stressful. Thinking of you as you navigate through all of this.
So I'm traveling today and have seen a lot of folks wearing masks. To those of you who have flights coming up, do you plan to wear a mask? I'm not really a germaphobe at all, but know our immune systems aren't as strong right now. I'll fly a couple times a month between now and June, so just want to be smart. Planning to ask my doctor about it tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else had thoughts on this.
@psychobutthead Congrats on another boy! And I’m so sorry for the trouble your daughter got into for hiding the alcohol. That’s a lot to deal with on top of everything else you’ve been going through.
@fitandnerdy My anxiety was getting pretty bad so I went ahead and got a Doppler. I’ve been fortunate and never had an issue finding his heartbeat despite him being a hide and seeker. I also pick one day a week to sit and find him. No more, no less. And I’ve stuck to it. It has been great relief for me.
@RedBaramid I’m sorry for the liver enzyme news. I hope your husbands reaction is better than you expect. This isn’t something you’re in control of. Big hugs.
@RedBaramid Sorry about that stressful news! I'm hoping it gets taken care of soon and ends up being something minor.
@psychobutthead I'm so sorry you are in this situation. I can relate a little bit with my younger brother. He has been getting into a lot of trouble lately and recently changed schools. I feel so bad for my mom dealing with all of that even though she has done everything right to help him. You are a good mom and are doing everything right! Hopefully the stress will pass and things will settle and after her 30 days she can get back into her normal routine.
I second @rivercitynik's question about travel. We are flying in a few weeks and I'm wondering how cautious we need to be.
Oh wow. @psychobutthead that is. A lot. I guess it's good they are taking it seriously but jeez. To me it begs the question how their approach at the other school is supposed to help? How will her behavior be perceived by her peers, knowing that she was pulled out, when she returns? If she's a good kid, i always wonder is it any better for them to now be surrounded by kids who may have a pattern of bad choices? Ugh. So many questions. I'm sorry your kid lied to you about it, too. That's maybe the toughest part. :/
@RedBaramid I'm sorry about the liver test results. Did they give you an idea of the scope of diagnostics they would need to run between now and when insurance would kick in? I know how quickly even labwork can add up tho. It sucks. I would definitely ask the GI if they have cash pricing available for you - a lot of times it's much more affordable than the way they would bill through insurance.
ETA @rivercitynik I would seriously consider it (wearing a mask). Other people could be traveling from all corners, and you really have no idea. Flu and Corona virus can both be contagious even when people are asymptomatic, and no one really knows how harmful it could be. :#. Personally, I would not be flying right now if I didn't have to. 🤷
I just called a daycare today to see about starting in January 2021 and they already have a waitlist! I didn't realize the daycare market around me was so competitive! I didn't want to look earlier because I was so afraid of something going wrong, but maybe I should have started earlier
@fitandnerdy keep asking around. One place we checked had a wait list, but two others did not. The one with the wait was a bigger name chain, where the one we went with is independently owned, and she's been super happy there. Don't lose hope!
@RedBaramid So sorry about your stressful test results. Hopefully you get some clarity soon.
@psychobutthead that is a lot to be dealing with and I’m sorry you’re in this position. I hope your daughter can learn something from all of this.
Add me to the list of people having a really stressful day. Today my company laid off several thousand people, including a few people I worked closely with. My job appears to be safe, but it was awful seeing people pack up their desks and not knowing what would happen to me or who else was going to be let go. The company handled it really poorly and heartlessly too.
@RedBaramid I’m sorry to hear your one test result. Hopefully you all can figure something out in the meantime.
@psychobutthead I’m sorry to hear how they are treating your daughter. What are they doing to the kids that were actually drinking? Or are they lumping your daughter into the drinking category as well.
I just sent my doctor a message asking if I could take my gd test at my next appointment. No matter how much I eat I’m always hungry. And I’m obese so technically I don’t need to be gaining extra weight. But in between my meals I just feel so off and I just want to get it checked out sooner rather than later. A im also stressing over my weight which I know I really shouldn’t, but I’m at my highest weight ever and it just makes me feel like crap that I couldn’t lose the weight before.

(((hugs))) @blackgirlmagic my office is doing the early test for me at 16w because DD was big. 🤷 I don't see why they wouldn't if you are concerned. If not, do you know anyone with diabetes and access to a tester + strips? You can do a test of sorts and home to help put your mind at ease until they do something more official.
Thanks @BusinessWife, but no I don’t. My doctor should get back to me tomorrow. I will ask if I can do it this coming Monday since I’m off work already. I just hate the feeling of always being hungry. I was doing pretty well the month of February not gaining weight, but this week I’ve gained three pounds 😑

@blackgirlmagic they are punishing her the exact same way as the kids who drank.
They go to this school and do one assignment per class subject they have. They have desks seperated my large wooden partions Where They stare at a wall. They arent allowed to speak or raise their hand. They have to raise a flag to have someone come to them so they can speak.
She might as well have drank too for how they are punishing her. I just wish she had told her friend no and refused to hide it for her.

Speaking of wild west @lachnessmomster what is with Sept 2020??? I was just trying to browse for some reading material but it made my head hurt. What's going on over there????
Does anyone know where you can buy a maternity swim suit in the store to try it on? I have no clue what size would fit me and my DD has swim class starting Sunday, talk about waiting till the last minute. The motherhood store near me didn't have any and neither did the target. Hopefully I can stop by the mall Thursday evening or Saturday to check them out. But if anyone knows where they for sure sell maternity swim suites let me know

I'm not much help @blackgirlmagic my plan for something like that would probably be order all sorts to come prime on Amazon and return what doesn't work 🤷
@blackgirlmagic I was actually going to suggest Target but sounds like that was a bust... it may just be the wrong time of year. I'd try a specialty swim store if there's one in your area? Or maybe an Academy/other sporting goods store if you're open to a more athletic cut?
@gomillis Stressful doesn't even begin to capture your day I'm glad your job is safe but so sorry for your colleagues and the effect it's having on morale more generally. Hope the company course-corrects and handles all of this a bit better over the coming weeks.
@fitandnerdy Daycare waitlists are nuts here, too. I would suggest putting yourself on a few different waitlists, trusting that some work like restaurants and tend to over-quote wait times to manage expectations. Then, for your own stress levels, perhaps look for one daycare option that you know will be available day one, even if not ideal for long-term. (In-home daycares sometimes have better availability than others.) We've had several friends move their LOs to a first choice daycare in their first 6 months, and it's been a relatively smooth transition for all of them.
@rivercitynik We're flying to Chicago in a couple weeks and, honestly, I hadn't even thought about a mask until your post. My understanding is some are more hardcore than others and you really need to go with the most face-fitting, high quality version for it to make a difference. Our trip is personal rather than work-related, so we'll probably monitor the situation and cancel if we feel it's unsafe enough to merit masks, but I know that is probably not an option for you. Definitely wash your hands like a crazy person!
Currently waiting at my kids "old school" for meeting 2 of 3.
All I have learned is she should have just drank because you get punished the same even if you say no.

My youngest started daycare this week (transition week so building up gradually to a full day by Friday) so I’ve been a bit MIA. I thought I was ok with it because I’ve done this before with older DD, am familiar with the daycare (older DD goes there as well) and after a year of mat leave I’m just DONE and ready to go back to work) but today I’m leaving her there all morning so they will have to try to get her down for her morning nap and for some reason that just had me bawling the whole way home. I’ve always been the one to our her down for her nap, o nurse her to sleep for naps and rock her and sing to her... and now some stranger is going to shove her in a crib and pat her back and hope she falls asleep. Ugh just a wreck over here. Sigh.
I have read all the precious comments but I’ll be honest I simply don’t have the energy to tag people and comment. I’ll try to be more present going forward but today I’m just struggling!
@BusinessWife I saw in another thread you're fighting the cough pee sickness and I just want you to know I relate so hard right now. My sinuses are clearing up but I finally caved after the third underwear change and admitted that even my only sporadic coughs were not worth the gamble anymore.
@psychobutthead I really hate the public school system and how they handle discipline anymore. I have yet to see any school really take an approach that helps kids learn lessons and instead I just see them shuffling kids off. I hope your daughter learns her lesson and I hope you manage to keep your sanity. I don't have a teen of my own yet but I was my SIL's leagal guardian for a couple years during her teens and holy snaps I know it's a struggle.
@rivercitynik I'm not a band-wagoner or anything, but from what I understand even here in the US we are starting to prepare for the real potential for Corona virus to be a thing here. I'd probably wear a mask because I'm pregnant. If I wasn't, I probably wouldn't, but given our lowered immune systems, I'd rather just look silly and potentially protect myself a little, especially since you travel often.
@laur84ns I'm sorry that the transition is so hard on you. Being honest I love putting my daughter to sleep, especially the infant/young stage of her life. I hate missing bedtime now because I love those moments we have together. I know that it will get easier as the days come and go, but feel all of your feelings now. All the hugs to you!!

@blackgirlmagic Thanks so much for your response! Yes! Her sweet little smug looking face when she falls asleep is my favourite I spent my morning buying her a little backpack for daycare, some new moccasin type shoes, thinking about how she was doing every few mins... ugh. About to go pick her up. I bet she didn’t nap but I really hope she had some fun playing with the other kids and all the toys. Can’t wait to give her a snuggle!!!
So my doctor said that it was to early to do the GD test and that I can't take it till 26 to 28 weeks, aka late April for me. I guess I will try to make sure to incorporate more protein and drink all of the water until I can't anymore.

@psychobutthead I am so sorry you are dealing with this right now. I can only imagine the disappointment you are feeling in this situation. I don't know your family but when I was a teenager I got into similar trouble at school. The look on my mother's face was enough to make me feel like I had hit rock bottom. My parents grounded me and pretty much wouldn't talk to me for a week. The school didn't punish me so I was lucky. I hope your DD and you recover quickly from this. I know it must be a tough time to see your kid in trouble.
@blackgirlmagic Did your doctor run a A1C blood test in your first tri blood work? If it was within normal ranges they probably are not concerned and will wait until the 3rd tri. I had GD (super mild if that) with DS1 so they wanted to check mine in the 1st tri this time around. With DS1 since I was obese, they tested me for GD in 1st tri and then again in the 3rd tri where I failed the 1 hour and had to do the 3 hour. I failed the 3 hour test by 2 points so I had to monitor my blood sugar the last month of that pregnancy. I lost a significant amount of weight since my last pregnancy and due to medical reasons they cannot do the sugary drink (hooray!) so they checked my A1C which came out perfect (which is part of their regular 1st tri blood work). They are talking about possibly running it again in the 3rd tri but we will see.
@radiohd18 Yes, we’d been told right before Christmas that layoffs were going to happen, but didn’t know the timing or scope or what teams would be affected. Then Monday evening an email was sent out saying they were going to happen this week. Hopefully some people had an inkling that their teams were at risk but the people I knew were completely blindsided.
On another note, have any of you with children in school or daycare seen any proactive communication from the schools about their plans for a COVID-19 outbreak? Normally I’m not very alarmist about things like this, but DS’s daycare doesn’t have a great track record for handling things like this and I want to put some pressure on them to come up with a plan now rather than wait until an outbreak starts.
@gomillis my kid is in elementary school and honestly there's not much they can really do, except encourage the kids to wash their hands and not share foods. I think it's really up to the parents to keep their kids out of school/daycare if one is unwell. We had the flu come around recently so I think it's pretty much the same approach! I just hope parents are being honest about their international travels and/or current health status.
I don't know if public schools have an outbreak plan... not sure I've ever heard of it. I imagine it would be handled similarly to the somewhat recent measles outbreak in the PNW--- with quarantines.
@pengy16 I believe all of my test results came back fine, so I think that is why he is not concerned. I see him in a couple of weeks so we have the discussion then if I still feel like something needs to be done. @gomills I'm sorry that your company handled that all types of wrong. But finding out that lay offs were going to be happening at some point right before Christmas is really sad news to hear. My daycare has not mentioned any type of action plan against it. Thankfully it's not in our area yet. I do know when there is a sickness out break, depending on the scale of it, they clean the whole building themselves or they hire professionals to come and do it. Have you checked your counties website to see if they have any guidance for schools/daycare's?

@radiohd18 On NPR this morning someone was talking about how schools may need to close and to prepare for disruption to normal life for a while. Normally NPR is pretty even keel so it’s the first time I’ve started to feel concerned.
On a lighter note, after the layoffs went down at work yesterday, my team went for happy hour to send our teammate off who’d been let go and to blow off steam. One of the higher ups on the team had had quite a few glasses of champagne and asked me point blank why I wasn’t drinking. However, the conclusion she’d jumped to was that I was a recovering alcoholic, not that I was pregnant 😂
@BusinessWife Oh, no. Am I missing some gems over there? Once I get all caught up on my own BMB, I'll have to go visit the circus. 😉😉😉
ETA: @gomillis HAHAHA. Even if you WERE a recovering alcoholic, could you imagine a nosey body being so direct as to ask you point blank about it? Like, holy moly! Have some tact!

I don't know if public schools have an outbreak plan... not sure I've ever heard of it. I imagine it would be handled similarly to the somewhat recent measles outbreak in the PNW--- with quarantines.

On a lighter note, after the layoffs went down at work yesterday, my team went for happy hour to send our teammate off who’d been let go and to blow off steam. One of the higher ups on the team had had quite a few glasses of champagne and asked me point blank why I wasn’t drinking. However, the conclusion she’d jumped to was that I was a recovering alcoholic, not that I was pregnant 😂
ETA: @gomillis HAHAHA. Even if you WERE a recovering alcoholic, could you imagine a nosey body being so direct as to ask you point blank about it? Like, holy moly! Have some tact!
