  • @mamaj1220 I think DD was in newborn for about a month. She was 7lbs 2oz at birth.

  • @tattoosandlace definitely add things to your registry and then buy through that for yourself if you can.  It will save you money in the long run!
  • @mamaj1220 we didn’t even use NB’s at all 😭. The nurse put him in a size 1 straight away and it worked fine- he was 9 lbs.

I will add another +1 for cervical checks not hurting. I think it just depends on the person.
  • @pirateduck Oooo! I didn't realize it could be stacked!!! Thank you! We didn't do our registry through Amazon last time because older relatives were confused...

@rox7777 Thanks! My Amazon welcome box only came with a coupon for 7th generation diapers and a sample. I still need to get the Target one since it was recalled when I went in a few weeks to get it. But I'll look out for the coupons. I keep getting cute little outfits from people but really people, she's gonna use diapers so much more!

@mamaj1220 We used 1.5 boxes of newborn diapers with DD. She always has moved into the new size well before the weight. She was 7lbs5oz at birth.
  • @jrouge12 I feel like DS did too, he was only 6.15 at birth and then lost a lot while we tried to figure out what the heck we were doing with breastfeeding, but I feel like I moved him up pretty quick because he started leaking through
  • @jrouge12 I got the target one a week ago, so it should be available now. And yes, I’ve gotten a lot
of bows, blankets and outfits. Not super practical, especially for the first few weeks.
  • @mamaj1220 We had some blowouts early on that we couldn't figure out because it seemed like the diapers should be the right size. Thankfully you can Google anything.

@rox7777 I'll have to stop by. I meant to go today but DD was being to whiny. I'm not ungrateful for anything people give but this is girl #2 and DD's grandma works in the kids clothing section of a nationwide department store. We have a ton of handme downs and grandma has already been filling the actual holes in seasonal clothing since DD was a winter baby.
  • I feel like my girls were
in nb for so long compared to some of y’all’s kids. I guess I tend to have smaller babies. I’m curious to see how this boy stacks up with his sisters.
  • DS1 was in NB clothing and diapers until about 3 months. At a year old he barely grazed 17lbs. DS2 was 28lbs at 6 months and mostly wearing 12-18 months. I honestly can’t even remember how long he wore NB stuff because he grew so freaking quick and he was a “premie”. I grabbed a small pack of NB diapers for now because I think last time I managed to leave the hospital with about 20. Size 1 will usually fit pretty quickly unless they have chicken legs.
  • Our TV in the living room died, this would normally not bother me but with the baby coming it is just one extra thing that we will have to budget for when I don't want to, I want all the baby things lol.
  • @mamaj1220, ours also broke a few weeks back. Thankfully TVs are pretty reasonable now a days. You don’t have to spend too much for a good TV. But it seems that they don’t last as long...

  • @queenklau yes that is the only saving grace is they are better priced but I agree that they don’t last near as long.
  • I have been working on this as well. I work for a community college that doesn’t offer maternity leave. I have 340 hours of sick leave saved up and FMLA. I was going to work up to delivery (I did with my last one- he was born May 4. The week of finals). BUT. I am 40. And this baby number 4. And I am TIRED. And I don’t wanna.
So I think I’m taking off April 10. My semester ends for one campus the last week of April and the other campus, the first week of May. I feel terrible making someone else take my classes but then again, I don’t . 😬
  • Any dentist/dental hygienist in the group? On Friday I started having really bad tooth/gum pain and it's progressed to pretty severe over the last 2 days. I can completely see my bottom left wisdom tooth - it's pretty much entirely out of the gum. I plan to make a call to my OB tomorrow morning before calling the dentist, but looking online there are so many mixed reviews about the safety of wisdom tooth removal during pregnancy. I think a dentist should be able to just pull it out (that's what happened a few years ago with my lower right side wisdom tooth) so just a local - but I'm more worried about the pain management afterwards with pretty much only relying on tylenol - which I've been taking these last few days and barely even takes the edge off the pain.

Again, I definitely plan to make a call to my OB tomorrow, but in the meantime...any experience with tooth issues while pregnant?
  • @chewie5990 I have been to the dentist while pregnant and I have had wisdom tooth issues in the past.  I think you definitely should consult the dentist.  It’s possible the tooth is pushing on a nerve and as it shifts the next few days, pain will subside.  It’s also possible the tooth is infected or something in which case you will need antibiotics. In any event you need to know what’s going on so that you can do what’s best for you and baby.
  • @jhysmath yes, we have to go through this, and also figure out the best way to install it in his car and install without a base and figure out if we want a second base or if it’s easy enough without.
  • @jhysmath your story about YH just bringing up the car seat and base has me cracking up. I bet the nurses loved to see that for some giggles 😄
  • @pirateduck and other FTMs, don’t forget to have the car seat installation inspected by a professional. Our town offers inspections for free, once a month by the Fire/Police Department. We thought we installed it properly and ended up getting it re-installed by them. May be worth finding out who does them around you.

  • My oldest was a preemie, but 6 lbs 11 oz and stayed in newborn clothes maybe 2 months, and then another month in 0-3 cloths. Newborn diapers might have been 6 weeks. But our second was 8 lbs 8 oz and did size 1 diapers immediately, with waistband rolled down just a little under the cord, and out of newborn clothes in maybe a week, could have been 2, out of 0-3 month clothes by 6 weeks.

  • On the diaper note, not all brands are created equal in size either. We did newborn Pampers for a while, when she grew out of those the size 1's were still a little big. So then I switched to Up & Up newborn diapers which were a little larger than Pampers N's, but smaller than Pampers 1's.

  • On a diaper related note for FTM's - we always knew when it was time to move up a size when our kids started having blow outs. Not just one, but several. This often did not correspond to the weight recommendation on the diaper box. We used Pampers, so maybe other brands don't have that issue? 🤷‍♀️

Leaks/blow outs were our sign to size up too, any brand. Frequently for my chunky babies, it was a few lbs below recommendations. Whenever the tabs didn't meet in the middle, my kids usually leaked out the upper leg. Also, make sure to stretch both of the sides of those tabs, don't let the inner ones just go

  • Ugh, second comment because it wouldn't let me type more, even editing.

But it you let the inner tab go up or down or not just straight across the hop, pee can just go straight out there (especially for boys). And the ruffles around the butt go outside the diaper to keep things in.

  • Similar to m6agua’s experience, Huggies were always tighter on my DD’s chicken legs so during size 1 phase, we preferred Huggies to minimize leaking. Pampers newborn were great in the beginning for us though. And then once she filled out, I just did whatever was on sale that didn’t give her a diaper rash!
  • We only use disposibles for night time, but I've found the BJs brand diapers are super cheap, box of 150ish for $20 and they handle nighttime use very well for my daughter.
  • Has anyone ever heard of the website Albee Baby?

Ive been shopping around for the best deals on the car seat I want, and their website has it significantly cheaper than anywhere else. I’m just worried it’s too good to be true!
  • @bender29 I haven't heard of that site specifically, but I know some websites will sell their overstock cheaply because they've had it too long and the expiration date is not what it once was. So we ordered a second Peg Perego infant seat from Amazon and certain colors were cheaper than others. That's because they were already two years old, so instead of 5 or 6 years before expiration, we were down to 3-4 years. I didn't really care because we aren't having anymore kids and baby will only use it for a year or less. Check out the reviews. If that's the issue, people usually complain about it.
  • @bender29 yes I've bought a few things from there! I got my Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair and a travel crib. Both have been good quality items with no defects. I think my IL's also got our Thule stroller from them.
  • @bender29 Albee is great but @ruby696 makes a good point. What seat is it?

  • @catem07 it’s the

Graco SnugRide SnugLock 30 Infant Car Seat

Clearly you can see I copy and pasted that 🤣
I think it’s a case of a discontinued pattern, as other patterns are more expensive
