@rachelredhead totally agree - I'll always take a tiny sip of DH's beer and I don't miss it. I do miss wine though but have taken small sips of his.

I will say the Heineken 0% beer tastes pretty much like any other light beer if anyone is really craving it! ETA - will probably drink a lot of those this summer when it's 90 degrees

  • @mehugg oh, I have zero guilt in having wine during pregnancy. Studies have shown that there is no difference in long term delays or birth defects for kids between moms who have 0 drinks during pregnancy and moms who have one glass per day. So, I actually feel fine having one a day (vs just occasionally). But, I want more than one on days like that :D so I just don't. All that said, I really appreciate you saying that because the more we provide facts to others, the better!!

@kristinl492 As little guilt as I have about it... and the fact that I have exactly zero judgement for others who have a drink... I'm like you. The stigma is always in the back of my mind and it takes away the relaxation part of things for me. I didn't have the same feelings when pregnant with DD and happily enjoyed my 5oz of wine when I wanted it. But I feel like I have more of a sense of mortality with this pregnancy and just don't enjoy it like I did with my last pregnancy.

@b_1029 one of my BMB friends was pregnant at last year's get together and drank those as well as craft-like NA beers the whole time. She said they were really good! I wish I loved beer because it's so easy to come by NA beers out and about.

For others who want NA stuff... Fre (that's the brand) Champagne is really great as a mimosa! It tastes pretty similar to regular, sweet, champs.... which isn't my jam. Hence why I make it into a mimosa. I've heard Fre chardonnay is really good (from a non-preggo) but haven't tried it. All of the Fre red wines are garbage. Save yourself the trouble and don't drink them. They taste like a fruit roll-up.
  • @kristinl492 totally hear that and agree. My brain says "go ahead!" And my subconscious says "what's wrong with you?!!?!" Lol society really gets ya
  • @blaf322 omg yes. My FIL was so sweet and bought some of that red wine for me while we were on vacation and it tasted like straight up trash. I felt so bad, I tried to drink like half the glass, but I just couldn't.
  • Yeah I have no desire to drink non-alcoholic versions of my beloved alcoholic drinks lol. I'm with @modoodles where I'd definitely have a beer or a glass of wine if it sounded good to me, but it still just doesn't. Also I don't have nausea anymore but pregnancy definitely changes my taste buds so when I've had sips of DH's beer, it has just not tasted as good as in my head. I did have have a craving for a cocktail the other night, but it was more of a craving to go out to a bar with a friend away from my child and have some cocktails, which would definitely be frowned upon by society  :p
  • I just told my supervisor at work about my pregnancy and she has 2 kiddos already (and also one on the way which I totally guessed like a jerk based on how her boobs had looked a week before and her eating of ginger candy. TW* She's a little too early to be sharing and has had mc related struggles before *END TW so I immediately started walking back and apologizing but then she was totally fine with it and we had a fun chat/walk to get coffee). Anyway, she not only has an occasional drink but eats all of the things and when I told her I had been wary around sushi/poached eggs/etc she gave me a lot of confidence to have them every so often if they seem reputable.

So I'm planning on some VDay champagne (at her house ironically, she's having a wine/cheese/pizza party) and branching out my egg selections lol.

@blaf322 @mehugg Weirdly enough, I had zero problem with drinking while breastfeeding. Probably because theres a little more science and knowledge behind it. My first postpartum beer was enjoyed while nursing DS lol.
My beverage indulgence this pregnancy has been Coke. Which, quite frankly, is probably worse for baby than a glass of my favorite red 🙄.
  • @pocketrose just chiming in to say I have been CRAVING some good sushi.  😅
  • @pocketrose  @nursejenn5
YES, I need some good sushi!  The place closest to my house just closed and I am so very sad.  I need to find a new one I like.

  • @kristinl492 I definitely still drank while BFing too.... and I NEVER dumped. If we had a crazy night out, I'd store the tainted milk in a mason jar (I stored all my pumped milk that way) and would just add a little to bottles of fresh milk. I always tested it with one of those strips to make sure it was safe so I felt okay about doing that.

@pocketrose @nursejenn5 @JessDG I'm a +1 for an intense sushi craving! Just need to find someone to go with and some time to actually go lol

I don't loooove wine or beer. I more like to drink to get drunk so I don't drink while I'm pregnant lol. I'll order a virgin caesar at restaurants as a treat, but I'd rather just eat junk food haha.
  • @blaf322 @kristinl492 I never gave drinking while bf'ing a second thought either. Also never pumped and dumped. I get so sad when people talk about having to pump and dump lol I just want to jump in and be like noooo! Save the milk! The only time I didn't give my pumped milk to my baby was when I had got this shot in my foot and the doctor looked up the injection and said to be safe, I shouldn't nurse for like 8 hours or something. So I saved that milk and used it for a milk bath.
  • Honestly, if my best friend doesnt show up at the hospital with a bottle of patron and some limes, I'm going to question our 14 year long friendship 😂

I also never pumped and dumped, I didn't drink to the point that I was drunk, so I never worried too much.
  • I will say that it took me a couple of weeks after giving birth to actually want a drink, but I think that had more to do with DD crying so much than anything else. I just remember my two friends telling me how they had champagne in the hospital room and that just sounded like the last thing on my mind. I remember cracking a beer, then DD would start screaming again, and I was just like this isn't fun anymore lol.
  • To echo what @meanjellybean said, I had no desire to have a drink until DS was like a month old.  And even after that I kept getting mastitis (3 times, not awesome) and felt like I was perpetually on antibiotics.  I guess I don't want alcohol when I don't sleep.  Once we were able to put him down at a normal bedtime and he would sleep a good stretch was probably when I started to actually enjoy my glass of wine in the evenings.  I never pumped and dumped either, I don't fell like I ever had that much.  Also, not drinking for nearly a year makes you a lightweight again. haha

  • Note to self... take a bottle of champagne to the hospital...

Honestly I'm just missing bloody Marys right now. Ok, and when we went for Mexican food over the weekend DH got *my* malibu and pineapple with a little sprite which made me jealous, but I just had pineapple juice instead.
  • @modoodles your comment reminds me that when it starts getting warmer out, I KNOW I'll be dying for a margarita lol
  • @meanjellybean mmmm yes I hope someone can smuggle me a margarita from my favorite restaurant while I'm in the hospital, that would be amazing. I've been craving one so long and have tried to do virgin margaritas but I find them gross.
  • I've never been a big drinker since I started occasionally having allergic reactions to alcohol when I was 22 or 23 (doctor says I'm likely missing an enzyme in my liver, basically I flush uncomfortably after 3 sips sometimes vs 3 drinks) but champagne normally is fine along with lower sugar/low ingredient mixed drinks and the occasional Old Fashioned. Still, a glass of champagne sounds good and I'm looking forward to one tomorrow.
  • @meanjellybean I was the same... I just didn't really want it after DD was born. My bestie had her DD 6 weeks before me and when I'd turn down wine when we'd hang out, she questioned who I even was anymore :D  Just being out of the habit of drinking wine and also sleep deprivation makes it not as enjoyable.
  • @pocketrose you must be Asian or have some ancestors from Asia. My bestie is Korean and one of my close friends on DD's BMB is from the Philippines. They call it the Asian flush. But, like you, sometimes my bestie is totally fine when drinking. Other times, she'll be fine one second and hardly able to stand the next. It's the craziest thing and impossible to know how the night will turn out with that. Now that we're older and life is more tame, she doesn't really have it happen. But when we were all kid free.... lol
  • @blaf322 I'm not Asian but apparently it's not totally uncommon in the Jewish world. I think it's probably the exact same thing though lol.
  • Definitely watching this new Netflix Docuseries called Babies. The description is, "From nature to nurture, this docuseries explores the groundbreaking science that reveals how infants discover life during their very first year."

Here's the link for the site to watch the trailer: https://www.netflix.com/Title/80117833
  • @blaf322 my husband showed me that trailer and he was so excited to watch it with me! haha it looks awesome

  • @blaf322 Heard that. I’m terrible at taking compliments. Or giving them. Especially face to face in a “serious” situation.
  • @blaf322 that sounds awful. I hate reviews too, and to combine it with a meal sounds even worse! I hope it goes better than anticipated.
  • FFTC: I had no plans to take in any valentines for my not even 2 yr old's class, so I threw away the list of names they gave me last week. Now the mom guilt got the best of me, and I have some last minute valentines for them... but I don't know their names. Guess I'll have to ask the teacher when I pick her up tonight.
