  • @modoodles thanks! I can't look at work but I'll take a look on my phone when I'm home later! I'm not good with spicy, so thanks for the warning!

  • Is anyone doing anything for your SO for Valentine's Day? DH and I suck at gift giving, but last year I ordered him amazing specialty cupcakes that he loved, but he never even said Happy Valentine's Day, or got a card or flowers or anything. I was so pissed and my feelings were super hurt. I know i cried. He felt horrible. He better do better this year. Im.just trying to decide if i should do something different or get the same thing.
  • @mrs_sheddy my 3 yo asked the same thing and I told her the baby would come out of my vagina. Then she asked if the baby was drinking milk from my tummy (no), and then asked if she can have a Paw Patrol birthday cake. 🤷‍♀️
  • @modoodles Eh, we had a dinner date on Saturday.  That's a whole other story.  I got a card.  If I get a card I'll be shocked.  I've sorta given up on the nice gestures back.
  • @modoodles we don't really gift give for most holidays so I don't have anything planned. That said, I do love the opportunity to surprise with a little something here and there so, following for inspiration
  • @modoodles I hate celebrating Valentine's day (feel like it's made up) but DH always insists like he's some big hopeless romantic lol. This year he'll be out of town for work so we'll go to dinner somewhere nicer than we'd normally go the following weekend. We never give gifts other than just a card.
  • I asked about suggestions in my A12 bmb as well and one friend said she sent her husband a mancrates salami bouquet last year. My husband would love something like that, it's only $60, so I was all excited, but they were sold out 👎
  • @modoodles  A few months ago I saw that a concert I want to see (Iron & Wine) was on Valentine’s Day so I asked my hubby to get tix. We’ll do that and get dinner somewhere he picks out. Gifts wise I sent him a link to this cheese ball thing on Etsy (you make an impression of your dog’s nose and the lady turns it into a necklace) I wanted so I’m betting he does that. I got him a sweater (he loathes shopping but likes new clothes) and a onesie for the baby that says, “I’m not yelling, I’m Brazilian.” 😂

We both like giving gifts and planning dates so although Valentine’s feels super made up, we just use it as an excuse for presents and a bigger-than-normal date night.
  • @mrs_sheddy We had that discussion sometime after her sister was born, but I think prior to that DD1 thought that somehow the baby came out straight through the stomach. Like maybe your skin burst open or something. I'm not sure if she's going to have more questions this time.

  • @treeofcheem I totally thought that babies came out of bellybuttons when I was a kid. They kind of jump to their own conclusions if you don’t telL them lol
  • I think H and I are going to go to Target this year for Valentines Day, hand each other the best card we find, and then put it back on the shelf  :p. We are not big into this holiday but our dating/getting engaged anniversary is 10 days after and I have fancy dinner reservations for us.
  • I was rushing trying to finish getting ready for work this morning and I effing slipped in the bathroom almost doing a split and also almost breaking the mirror on our bathroom closet door. Feel like I may have screwed up my back/hip but they kind of already hurt so who knows. I then proceeded to yell at DH for always leaving puddles on the bathroom floor after he showers... in front of DD... sorry DD.
  • @meanjellybean ugh... I'm sorry! That sounds painful!
  • @meanjellybean rough way to start the day! I hope it gets better.
  • @meanjellybean :D girl... that's a comically bad morning.
Side note: my MIL fell coming into our house when we first bought it and they were coming to see it and DD (around the same age as yours is now) talked about it for MONTHS. So, be prepared for that lol

    Hope today gets better!
  • what work?! Spent my morning looking up Airbnb's for our babymoon. I have it narrowed down to 3 so I can book today. Whoop!

@b_1029 we're looking at taking advantage of the Monday we already have off for Memorial Day Weekend and heading to the beach then  We went there for DD's babymoon too. I'm soooo excited b/c I just booked massages for us while we're there. The spa I booked at has a prenatal table so I can actually lay on my stomach vs getting a crappy massage while I lay on my side. Those aren't even worth it.
  • @blaf322 mmmm that sounds heavenly! I got a prenatal massage when we were in CO and it was pretty solid!
  • @meanjellybean damn that's a rough start!

My 14yo DD has to care for a "baby" as part of one of her freshman classes. She has this doll, who she has named Chucky, for 3 days and 3 nights. Last night it started to cry and she said, "Seriously? I JUST sat down with my food." Hahahaha! Also, she was not impressed with my "Breast is Best" advice. 🤷‍♀️
  • @modoodles I love those things and totally hope they make DD take one when she's older :D
  • @modoodles
Yesssss!  They make the kids at my school who take a certain class do that for a weekend and it is AWESOME to listen to them whine about how hard it is.   :p
  • @modoodles oh no! What a rough way to start the day!

    @blaf322 yay for a babymoon!

Valentine’s Day... we don’t usually do anything except order carry out from a favorite restaurant and DH loves getting the girls a little stuffed animal and candy. He almost always brings home chocolate strawberries too but other than that just cards. This year though, we are going out to Kobe. I love Kobe but with the girls we haven’t actually gone there in a long time so we decided to go ahead and do that. We don’t really do much for birthdays and Christmas either. I’m terrible at picking things out for him and he’s always so thoughtful about it, it makes me feel bad lol I just always say let’s do one gift or just use the money on the girls.

  • @modoodles amazing, I didn't know they still did that in school! I'm glad your DD is getting a sense of what parenthood is like: having all of your meals interrupted by your child. They should also create a doll that simulates what it's like to have a toddler so they can understand that as well. It can throw tantrums and hit you, throw its cereal bowl on the ground (definitely not all things that happened in my house this morning  ;))
  • @meanjellybean What an terrible start to your morning. I'm glad I'm not the only klutz.

My work plumbing woes followed me home yesterday.  Got a notice from city that 10+ gallons of water are being registered from our home water meter.  Much problem solving later warranty company thinks it's an irrigation system issue and has shut that off.  That means another morning or afternoon I'll have to leave early.  My work did let me go home on 30-minutes notice and work from home while I waited on today's plumber.  Glad it was not interior plumbing. Landlord has offered to pay any outrageous water bill we get which was nice.  Inconvenient but my blood pressure is finally down.
  • @meanjellybean Hope your day is improving!

@bluguitarhannah Hope the water issues get completely resolved quickly.

  • Totally random and NBR but, I am in the WORST mood today and I'm trying to pretend (to myself and to everyone else) that I'm not... but ugggggh... I just want to go home and not be around anyone. At all.

I think I just need for it to be spring already. I'm always in such a good mood once the weather warms up.
  • @blaf322 I was saying the same thing to DH today! I'm so tired and I think I really just need some dang sunshine. February is the worst!
  • @nursejenn5 Woah! Lots of babies! I wanted a nice big glass of red wine so badly the other night. That’s what I miss the most about not being able to have alcohol. Those relaxing one or two drinks after a long day. It’s almost therapeutic lol.
  • @nursejenn5 wow! Lots of babies! I hope those babies and mamas are doing well  Enjoy the day off!! You definitely deserve it.

@mehugg yesss... I think by Feb, I'm just so ready for some warmth and sunshine it makes me a little easier to be put on edge. I'm sure pregnancy hormones don't help..... wine would though. Wine would be really great (she says at 9am :D )
  • @nursejenn5    Oh my goodness!  That's a ton!  DS was born right after a full moon and I was the only one on L&D when I delivered but the nurses said it was PACKED the week before.  I don't know how you guys do it!

@JessDG there’s definitely something to be said for a full moon and healthcare. I’m not in L&D but I work in a hospital. Stuff tends to get crazy, fast! When I was overdue with DS, my mom swore the combo of a full moon and a nor’easter was going to make me finally go into labor. Update: it did not. Lol

@mehugg @blaf322 Definitely a member of the mid-winter blues club! It’s just so blah outside that you can’t help but feel blah as well. It’s been nothing but rain, rain, rain here in NJ.
  • @nursejenn5 WHOA that's insane. enjoy some down time today!
@blaf322 @kristinl492 for what it's worth, I read a good bit about the alcohol stuff during first tri and was surprised to learn that the total abstinence from alcohol actually has no basis in science. The policy came from a recognition that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a real phenomenon and we should protect babies from it....but rates of FAS haven't gone down at all because babies with FAS aren't being born to mild to moderate drinkers but rather alcoholics and the ban on alcohol is not an effective way to treat addiction. Now, because it's hard to test on pregnant women and their babies, there isn't a clear "this much is safe and this much is too much" guideline, but there's no evidence that the *occasional* beer or glass of wine is going to harm an otherwise healthy mama and baby.

OF COURSE do what your doctor recommends and/or what you feel comfortable with - I just being it up because you very well might be fine having a drink after a long day. I personally haven't had anything yet this pregnancy but I find it nice to know that I could if I really wanted to, and I probably will indulge in a glass of wine at some point.
  • @nursejenn5 Yea for a day off that's a ton of babies for one day.
  • @mehugg I my OB with a previous pregnancy told me the same thing. I have had a beer and/or glass of wine with zero guilt in previous pregnancies- and the only reason I haven't this time is because it doesn't even sound good.
  • @mehugg I don’t have a problem with the occasional glass here or there. I think it’s so beaten into our brains that there’s “no safe amount” during pregnancy that it would be hard for me to fully relax and enjoy it the way I want to. Almost not worth it at that point 🤷🏼‍♀️.
  • @kristinl492 that’s my feeling, too. I 100% believe a glass of wine/beer here or there is perfectly fine. But the stigma associated with that choice has been so aggressive, it’s hard to get my brain to switch off that shame button. We like to drink port and so far I’ve been comfy having one end-of-week tiny glass of port in the 2nd tri. But that’s really the only alcohol that tastes ok to me. I have a sip of DH’s drink if he tries something new and my taste buds are generally unimpressed. So that has made abstaining very easy.
