  • @stlbuckeye132 @footdrbritt I'm sorry about your terrible in-laws but now I'm super pumped for your stories lol. Maybe I'll get that thread up and running sooner rather than later...

  • @blaf322 omg that’s terrifying! Your daughter is nowhere near as big as an airplane (I assume). I really need to get DD1 in swim lessons so I can be slightly less freaked out all the time.

@meanjellybean yesssss to the in laws thread. Mine are super special.
  • @stlbuckeye132 I just sent that same GIF to my husband just because my sister said she wanted a business degree to work in HR. She's been fired or just not given notice for every job she's ever had. She posts the most insensitive things on FB, including this weekend "If you want something sugar coated, get a donut." And parties all the time. I dont see much of a future for her in HR.

    My inlaws are awful.
  • @footdrbritt LFMAO at that message.

Have any of your in-laws put a magazine on your pillow saying you are and your future children are going to hell.  She stopped doing it in part b/c we stopped staying over but that's a true story.  I'm liking the idea of IL or nutty relatives thread.

@blaf322 My not FFC is that I cannot swim still to this day.  The lake would terrify me.  I've taken lessons several times but still can really only dog paddle for a little while.
  • @bluguitarhannah WHAT?!?!?!

    we need this thread ASAP
  • Here for the in-laws thread! I’m lucky to have good ones that only mildly aggravate me at times. But I love to hear everyone else’s crazy stories lol!
  • It's up! Get to posting!
  • @footdrbritt :D:D:D She sounds like a real gem

@Pascal86 we need to get DD in swim lessons too. I just didn't want to do the ones when they're really little because they're more focused on being comfortable with the water (which isn't an issue for her) and she would be so upset over having to do the lessons without me there. Now, she's older, does dance without us in the room (though, she's still not in love with the idea of it) and they're teaching more so we need to get with it.

  • @Pascal86 how long did it take to get your spina bifida results? I just did the test Friday so curious about timing.
  • @rachelredhead I got them in 4 days, they said it’d be within a week. Though I didn’t trust them entirely because they took so long with the first genetic testing, but they followed through this time.
  • @Pascal86 my SB results came back in less than a week.  Quite a bit less time than the larger NIPT panel.

    EDD/weeks+days: July 12/ 18 weeks

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Green

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: Hamster...lol

Upcoming appointments: 2/24 is our anatomy scan!

How are you feeling? Actually have felt great the past several days! First trimester was full of constant nausea and exhaustion, but it has gradually improved as I've moved into the second trimester. I have had a couple of monster headaches over the past couple of weeks, but outside of that I've been feeling awesome.

Raves/Rants: Rave: Hubs got me a prenatal massage for my birthday and I had it this past weekend and it was amazing!! Rant: I was bored by the Oscar's last night and annoyed that I stayed up the entire time to watch, but that was my own choice...

Questions:  So, my brother and (future) sis-in-law have offered to throw us a baby shower at their new house in May, which is about 4 hours away. Hubs and I are both excited about that, as we lived there for many years and have tons of friends and family that will want to attend. We haven't lived in our current town for that long so we don't have a lot of friends here. However, his parents and brother live nearby to us now...and his mom was sort of asking some questions about the shower, and I mentioned my brother offered to have one but we don't have plans yet to have one around here. She seemed a little put off by that, maybe because it's quite a drive...should I feel bad? These shower things are so tricky!! I almost think if she is annoyed about the drive, maybe she could offer plan something more local then? IDK. Just curious about other opinions :)

GTKY- Beach, Lake, or Mountains.... what's your preferred vacation destination? BEACH
  • @mamasoup77 If she's put off I think she can make the local offer.  We are going back to my hometown for ours.  My Mom and brother et al would drive 11 hours for it or fly several hours and we all still live in Texas.  However, they get that most of the people who want to shower us live there.  We are also really new to our current area.  I lived 30-minutes from here 10 years ago but otherwise, it's just a place we moved to for work.

I agree with you that the shower dynamics are tricky.
  • @rachstar18 yes! It's so hard to keep track of stuff with the second! I'm doing okay with how many weeks, for the most part. But I bet that gets worse after the AS because I won't really be counting down to a scan anytime soon lol. I always have to look up size lol
  • @rachstar18 you’re not alone. Someone at work asked me and I was like uhhhhh 16, no 17 maybe 18 weeks 🤦🏽‍♀️ It’s hard to keep track!
  • @bluguitarhannah yikes!! That's a lot. Sort of similar story from my aunt. my grandparents were super Catholic and my aunt (their daughter, my dad's sister) eloped instead of having a Catholic Mass wedding. Then when she and my uncle had kids, they didn't get them baptized. He "jokingly" called my cousins No Name 1 and No Name 2 and said they were going to hell.....I'm 75% sure he wasn't 100% serious.....but other than that my aunt had a lovely relationship with my grandparents. Families, so fun all the time!
  • @nursejenn5 I am having daily headaches still but not as bad.  I added the magnesium and I'm doing a daily dose of aspirin free excedrin.  The magnesium did seem to lower the intensity of the headaches pretty noticeably.
  • I promise I read everything you guys wrote and love titted!  I just don't think I can tag everyone.  <3

    EDD/weeks+days:  15 weeks 5 days

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Finding out/Probably Blue

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: Naval Orange

Upcoming appointments: OB Appointment March 3.  I need to call and schedule my Anatomy Scan for the second week of March.

How are you feeling?  Pretty good.  Can still take some amazing naps on the weekends.  Starting not to feel like I'm going to fall over after the work day.  So that's a plus.  Still sneezing a lot and peeing my pants like 75% of the time I sneeze.  Permanent panty liner wearer over here.  I think I've started feeling some movement too!  yay!

Raves/Rants:  My parents have DS for a few days while our babysitter is super sick.  It has been so nice to have 2 evenings where I could just chill and not have to worry about a bedtime routine.  But I do miss him.

GTKY- Beach, Lake, or Mountains.... what's your preferred vacation destination?  Definitely the Beach.  We try to go to the Outer Banks of NC every year since we love it so much.  I do love the Mountains too, having now grown up anywhere near them.
  • @rjk0427 it's totally different for everyone when they first feel movement! I wouldn't worry about it at all. 18 weeks is still early. I have felt movement much earlier this time around than with DD and could likely be because I just know what to look for. It's not obvious and I still question if it's just gas half the time!
  • @pocketrose there's a google sheet with links to all the product rec threads each week. If you're wanting a list in a google doc, feel free to create it!

@rjk0427 I didn't feel any movement at all until 20w  with my first. So not feeling anything at 18w is normal

@JessDG we love OBX too! DH lived and worked there one summer and so it has a special place in his heart. We were looking to take a week there this summer but opted for a long weekend in HHI instead since some friends we wanted to join weren't able and b/c my PTO is so limited. Hope y'all are able to make it out there this year!
  • @rachstar18 @blaf322 @footdrbritt I feel like I'm doing pretty well remembering how many weeks, but @blaf322 I think you're right that after the AS it's really just a slog towards delivery and I can see myself losing track. I have found that after I turned 30 and had a kid, if someone asks me how old I am, I really have to think about it. Like you're used to people asking how old your kid(s) is but when someone asks me I'm like "31... wait, no... 32... wait..."
  • @meanjellybean omg....saaaame. I have the hardest time with my age :D It's so embarrassing!
  • @blaf322 Where is this list, my mind has melted out of my head after my past week and half lol.

    @pocketrose here you go!
July 2020 BMB Product Spotlight Series

ETA- the goal was to hit the really important things well before anyone would be having babies.... and, hopefully, in time to make it onto registries. If there are any organizational changes you'd like to suggest, let me know!
  • EDD/weeks+days:
    7/27 - 16w1d

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green:
Finding out in about 3 weeks!

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact:
    Avocado

    Upcoming appointments:
    Feb 21, regular OB appt

    How are you feeling?
Still sick. This cold is wearing me out. I was having such a hard time staying awake at work yesterday!

    Raves/Rants:
I'm going to have to start working towards weaning DD2 so we have some time between that and new baby arriving (hopefully that will cut down on some of the jealousy? IDK). Just not excited for the fits I think she's going to throw and trying to get her used to going to sleep without nursing at all. I know we can take our time a bit, and she doesn't typically fall completely asleep nursing, but it's definitely what gets her to the very drowsy stage.

    Questions:
    Nothing right now

GTKY- Beach, Lake, or Mountains.... what's your preferred vacation destination?
Beach, although it doesn't need to be a hot, sunny beach

@b_1029 Have a rough idea of what you want/need before you go, and how much you want to spend. People can be all over the place with pricing. It also partly depends on how much you think you will get from friends and family - if you think you're going to need to get some big items yourself, you can get good deals. Clothing-wise, it partly depends on how seasonal you need to be (don't remember what area you're in); non-seasonal items like basic pants and onesies, or things that are kind of flexible on size like jackets or sweaters (I always manage to use those slightly outside the size range) can be good bets. Sleep sacks or swaddles will probably be readily available, although we do change the sleep sacks seasonally, they tend to have a pretty wide size range (6 months or so) so you can probably estimate when you'll need them for.

@rachelredhead At my last appointment, at 13-1/2 weeks, I'd gained 8 lb from my starting weight. My OB uses weight from the first appointment, though (which is dumb IMO) so I'd "officially" only gained 4. I tend to gain early on and then slow way down - it's a different pattern for everyone! My OB acts like people should gain consistently and evenly throughout a pregnancy, but from what I've heard and read from others, it's totally normal to gain in a non-consistent pattern.

@meanjellybean I definitely rely on my kid to tell me how old I am sometimes!
    2/13 Blighted ovum, D&C -- 6/13 MC -- 8/14 DD born -- 3/17 MC -- 9/18 DD2 born
    Expecting again -- EDD 7/27/20
  • EDD/weeks+days: July 2/19w+5d

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: green

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: zucchini

    Upcoming appointments: OB appt 2/18

How are you feeling? Continuing to not get great sleep due to hip pain, but other than that, not bad.

Raves/Rants: My parents are in town for a week, so I'm excited about that!!

    Questions: nope

GTKY- Beach, Lake, or Mountains.... what's your preferred vacation destination? My favorite spot to go to every summer is Lake Michigan, which combines lake with beach. It is so peaceful and beautiful, love the long Michigan summer days!!

  • @knockupthestock glad everything looked okay! FX for no pre-e
  • @knockupthestock Scotland is one of my favorite destinations of all times.  Glad things were ok when they checked that can be very nerve wracking.
  • @knockupthestock first of all, the tags. You are my queen and I bow down.

Second, feel free to come join us on the in-laws thread! It's been reeeeally cathartic haha. (You may already be there, I haven't made my way over there yet today)
  • @knockupthestock DH and I are tentatively planning an England/Scotland road trip with the kiddo next summer. Baby’s first passport stamp! I’ve only been to Edinburgh in Scotland and I sooooo want to explore more. And my DH has only been to London so I’m excited for him to see more of the countryside.
  • @knockupthestock ask they about the size of cuff. We have nurses that try to use the same cuff for all patients and they don’t work like that! If they don’t have a bigger sized cuff, at least for us, our anesthesia team tells us that it is accurate to take the BP with a normal sized cuff on the forearm if the upper arm isn’t the right size.
Too small of BP cuffs will read high! I hate people trying to treat BP problems off inaccurate readings due to user error especially. It’s unnecessary.
