@allie456 What they all said, I had mine last time at 28 weeks, but this time because I had GD last time I had an early screen at 18 weeks or so. I passed that one, but will have another one at 28 weeks which I fully believe I will have GD diagnosed at that test.
I had my glucose test today @ 25 weeks. My previous OB had me do the test in office at 28 weeks, but my new OB writes a prescription and said anytime between 24-28 weeks. I went to Quest and they didn’t give me an option of a flavor, just handed me the orange drink. Also, they hold you hostage in a tiny waiting room so you can’t leave. Mine was 1 hour, so it wasn’t too bad, but I could NOT IMAGINE the 3 hour in that tiny little torture chamber!!
Anyone know how to read the 3hr glucose test numbers? My OB hasnt called me back since friday when the results were uploaded to my patient portal and I'm dying to know...
@randic22 So in order to be diagnosed with GD you need to fail at least 2 of the 4 numbers. It really depends on what the ranges are for your office since the ranges can vary for different places.
Here is what my office has as requirements from 2016.
So talked to my mw today about my 3 hour results from 19ish weeks (early test because of gd with dd two years ago) and even though I "passed" she said the spike at the one hour mark 168 that I likely don't "tolerate" sugars well and that I should watch my sugars. At my next appointment she said she'll likely have me do the 1 hour again (I thought we would just skip to the 3 hour as I failed the 1 hour at 17 weeks) and she said if I fail that she will likely write me a script for a glucose meter and I'll monitor my blood for 2 weeks and they'll make a decision from that. Which to me sounds odd seeing how it's obviously be watching my diet and they wouldn't be able to exactly monitor how much sugar I've had.
At my 20 week anatomy scan, we found my baby was measuring big, in the 95th percentile. We did a preliminary glucose screening, and my levels came back good. Yesterday at my echocardiogram appt., baby was measuring in the 97th percentile- 1lb 10 oz at 23 weeks. I know that these numbers can be off/vary a lot- and I know they can change still, but It does have me a little nervous. My dr isn't concerned and we will continue to monitor. My official glucose screening isn't until 28 weeks. Perhaps I have a big baby, or perhaps I need to prepare to fail my glucose screening next month.
@mamaclownface at my growth scan last week at 23+5 my baby was measuring 1lb 8oz and nobody said a word about it. It sounds like your dr isn't concerned either so I wouldn't stress. With DD1 they always told me she was going to be huge and she was born at 39+2 at a whopping 7lb exactly so it's definitely just an estimate and nothing too precise.
@bananapanda thank you for the feedback. It does make me feel better. I think my doctor just brought up percentiles because there was a jump from my earlier scans. I know baby can pack on weight and go through growth spurts at different times as well. DD was steadily at the 50th percentile and still is today, so this is new to me. DH and I are both small people.
Does anyone know what happens if they deem your results too low? I wasn't told to eat or drink before hand or not to eat or drink so to be safe I just didn't. It says I am 83mg/dl (low) and gives a range of 120-140 mg/dl. I have a feeling I wont hear from my doc until Monday at the earliest so wanted to see if anyone has received a low rating and what that meant/what the doc said/what the result was? I have tried doing some Googling and haven't come up with much. I am guessing they are far more concerned with it being too high but wasn't sure if there are different concerns if it is too low. I probably should have eaten-- I was ravenous when done-- they actually gave me some crackers after because I was starving
@doctorcrime mine was 93mg/dl and they indicated standard range was 70-139 on the test results. My OB said my number was normal, so interesting that they indicated the standard range as 120-140 for yours.
Standard Range65 - 139 mg/dLAccording to ADA, a glucose threshold of >139 mg/dL after 50-gram load identifies approximately 80% of women with gestational diabetes mellitus, while the sensitivity is further increased to approximately 90% by a threshold of >129 mg/dL.
So it really only says that you should be under a certain amount.
@sunshinesea22 yea they decided to include that when they had me do the 16 week glucose challenge because of my BMI. Just curious if anybody had a similar experience.
@soprano19 sorry to hear that! Definitely sitting around for three hours does not sound fun. Lots of people fail the one hour but pass the three hour though! So hopefully that goes well and you'll be done with it
@allie456, mine was pushed to 27 weeks, unless there is a concern that you are prone to GD (previous pregnancies that had GD or a large baby etc), around 26-28 weeks should be fine!

Ugh I failed my 1 hour. Have to do the 3 hour now. Thinking I might just go on Saturday and get it out of the way. No valentine's chocolate for me tomorrow.

Re: Glucose Screening
@allie456 I had my 1 hr done a little earlier because of my bmi being on the higher side. Otherwise my ob typically does 28 weeks.

Did anybody else's doctor also have them test their HBA1C?
