February Symptoms

Re: February Symptoms

  • I started logging my water intake the last month or so.  I find it really helps me stay on track and I can tell a difference in the way I feel when I don’t have enough.  When I’m short on water I usually feel pretty crappy by bedtime.  That’s not to say I feel great every time I have enough water, but it really does make a difference.  Everyone is different, but I aim for at least 84 ounces a day.

  • Anyone's nausea coming back? (sorry if it never went away!) It's not nearly as bad as first tri but I could do without it. Also the heartburn.
  • @rachelg777 mine has!

  • @catem07 ugh nooo, I'm sorry. I hope it's short lived for both of us. Did yours come back towards third tri with your DD?
  • @rachelg777 I seem to have a day here and there with some nausea and/or being more sensitive to smells. I think the last one I had was maybe 2 weeks ago.

  • Mine has with certain smells. Being trapped in the car while DH chewed some strong spearment gum was pretty much torture .
  • ugh sorry ladies. :( I'm not going to complain because I know it could be worse and it's very manageable as is, but it's been every day for the last week or so. Hopefully just an off week!
  • Yep. I still have MS one or two mornings a week, and I cannot be around when eggs, pancakes, or meat are cooked on the stove. Dinners have been a lot of salads, pasta, and oven-baked chicken.
  • @rachelg777 heartburn has really kicked into high gear for me too. Feels like it is after every single meal, before it was just dinner.

  • @pirateduck 😖 I hope the pains dont come back! That'll be reassuring to have that appointment tomorrow though
  • @pirateduck Crossing fingers! I sometimes do get gas or something pain that's borderline concerning.

  • @rachelg777 Mine is starting to make a comeback. I think it has more to do with indigestion but the urge to vomit is slowly coming back.

@pirateduck I'm glad that the stomach pains went away. I'm sure that's concerning but the fact they went away is a good sign. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

  • @rachelg777 I feel like I have to vomit kind of often but it's mostly because of reflux/heartburn, not the "stomach flu" feeling of first trimester, for me. Which btw is no joke. Pepcid just isn't touching the heartburn anymore.

Does anyone have good strategies for managing your lower back pain? I thought the belly band was the solution to all my problems and it does help, but turns out if it isn't fastened absolutely perfectly the Velcro part digs into my skin and is just agonizing after a few hours. Warm baths also help to just take the weight off for a few minutes. I'm wondering if I need a chiropractor or something.
  • @allie456 there are some good low back and core strengthening exercises you can do. I googled a while back and found this one https://youtu.be/S3xXurLpfDk.  It's a lot of the same stuff I was doing in PT when I had a slipped disc and it worked really well for me then.

I'm sure you could Google some other good ones too. As others mentioned about pelvic floor stuff, there's a way to move during your regular day to day activities that can help reduce the pressure you're putting on your low back (like how to put on pants, how you get in and out of the car, bend to pick things up, or to brush your teeth, etc). I don't have a link for that but I'm sure it's out there. I also sat with a bolster behind my low back for a while when at my desk or driving.
  • @allie456 I highly recommend complete bedrest. It worked perfectly for me  :D
Joking, of course. I'm on bedrest for other reasons, but definitely working out will do you good. Child's pose is one of the best  ;) and the cat cow movement. Just be consistent

  • @allie456 I spend most of the evening in the recliner with a heating pad turned as hot as it will go. Warm baths are nice, but with both boys I went into labor after soaking in the bath, so I tend to avoid them these days. Also, get a foam roller and YouTube pregnancy foam roller for back. There’s quite a few good moves that are super low impact and easy to do, even if you’re high risk. But wait until you have someone to help you up off the floor if you’re like me. 😂
  • these are all great ideas! I was putting stockings on for work the other day and literally got stuck on my back like a turtle with one foot half in the foot of the stocking and the other leg pulled up until MH came to help me, so I will definitely not try to exercise alone.

Maybe PT is the thing. I have an appointment with my OB on the 17th; I can ask her for a referral then.
  • @allie456 I second the core strengthening and the foam roller. Also, if you're having sciatica, leaning back on a lacrosse ball (or tennis) against a wall will help you work out knots.
  • Stretching your hamstrings and glutes will also help your lower back, it's all connected.
  • @allie456 I am always an advocate for chiropractic care. I go monthly for maintenance and occasionally get an additional appointment in, when I first started out it was much more often. I went throughout my first pregnancy (and this one so far) and my daughter has been going monthly since she was born. I also think asking about pelvic floor PT at your appointment would be a good idea.

  • Is anyone else having a lot of swelling already? MY hands feel stiff because they are fluid filled and my PT noticed too, I am drinking a ridiculous amount of water because I am always thirsty but I was not this swelled with DS at any point so I didn't know if anyone had any tips?
  • I don't have a ton yet @mamaj1220 , but there are definitely days/times I don't wear my rings now.
  • @mamaj1220 Ugh. I would worry about pre-e. I generally don't get noticeable swelling though unless it's past 34 weeks and over 80 degrees where I'm at (the room itself, or me directly outside in it). I get a tiny bit of swelling in fingers overnight to make my ring snug, but within 10 min of starting to drink in the morning it goes away.

  • @pourmeanothermocktail BP is low so not a concern :) and urine tests all come back fine. But I can't wear my ring right now so I am swelled
  • @mamaj1220 my hands are fine but my ankles/calves are very swollen by the end of the work day.

I don't really have an answer but I'm sorry that's happening, it sounds really uncomfortable.
  • @mamaj1220 I already have swelling too, though nothing crazy yet. My hands have been for a while now and just noticed my feet/legs the other day. I've only been wearing my wedding band and not my engagement ring. BP has been fine too so I dont know ???
  • I'm on the swelling boat with no pre-e signs. Im also down to being cautions with my rings and some of my shoes are a definite NO lol
  • Ugh, add me to team swelling. BP and urine tests look great, but I'm getting cankles and my rings are too tight to wear.
  • I've also had some swelling lately, mostly my hands. If I do a lot of walking I can feel it in my feet too. Not too bad yet though.

    Hang in there ladies!
  • By the end of the day I have itchy imprints from all the elastic in my socks on my legs/ankles.
  • I didn't swell at all with dd until after my c-section and it was so uncomfortable. I'm afraid I'll have it before for this one as my shoes have started feeling tight, but it's not  visually noticeable yet.
  • Plus one for team swollen. I was super swollen in my previous pregnancy but I also gained a lot of weight. Started out very weight this time and haven’t gained much (as recommended). I have carpal tunnel issues during pregnancy that also cause my hands to swell/tingle/fall asleep at night especially.
  • I’ve had spider veins on the back of my knee since the 1st trimester but now I’m noticing spider veins in my boobs.

Thankfully, still no sign of varicose veins.

  • +1 to the spider veins or stretch marks or something on my boobs, it's like I have lighting bolts pointing at my nipples.   :D I'm hoping they fade in color later and are less prominent, we'll see.  At least they are in a spot that no one would really ever see  them, even if I'm in a low cut top or something, except maybe when I'm flashing the world while I BF.
  • @jhysmath I actually had my first weird pregnancy dreams late last week and woke up crying for literally no reason in the middle of the night. Lol what??? Also that's hilarious about what your DD said.
