  • I am losing my mind.
  • @pourmeanothermocktail regarding breech I had no idea dd was breech until I had a 32 week US I attempted an ECV at 36 weeks, between 32 and my 39 week CS I did everything aside from acupuncture because we didn't have one near by. I even had an inversion table I hung upside down from watching TV. I was so angry nothing worked. I wasn't a vbac so badly and I'm terrified this one is also going to be breech.
  • @pourmeanothermocktail @jhysmath My first was breech for a while. I am 5’1” and have a shortish torso, I also had an anterior placenta. I think at my 28 or 30 week appointment I asked what the Round body part was jabbing me in my rib cage. Doc swore it was a butt, she brought in the portable ultrasound and it was of course her head! After that I did spinning babies, inversions, chiropractic care and all the things. She flipped shortly after a really intense chiro session on my hip joints around 32/33 weeks.

I think this one is head down or transverse. I feel a lot more big movements lower. With my first the main stuff I felt was her head in my rib cage and when she would kick my cervix... talk about lightning crotch! I would still feel movement all over too. This time I do feel something more on my right side near my ribs, but it isn’t constant, it doesn’t feel so round like my daughters head, and it’s lower. I plan on asking the doc next time. I also feel so much more pressure on my vagina, so I think he must be head down. We will see I guess.

  • So this may be a stupid question but how do you know if you’re baby is breech? Like I know they are all moving around and doing flips and won’t stay too long in that position but I have this weird fear that he is breech and we don’t know because I’m not supposed to get another ultrasound.
  • I also think it’s a weird fear for me because having a high risk pregnancy the first go and now having a really smooth pregnancy (IMO) is just so opposite for me. With DS1 I swear I had at least 5 ultrasounds.
  • Thank you @afranzen85 I knew there had to be a way but I just have been having weird nightmares about him being breech and is not knowing
  • @mamaj1220 I know what you mean, I started this pregnancy with all the fears and I think I had about 5 US, but around the anatomy scan they decided all was well and now I have less appointments and no more scans.  It’s hard to believe everything is just normal in there since they aren’t a checking all the time.  I know they noted the position as breech only AS, but said at that point in pregnancy it didn’t mean anything because there’s still a lot of growing and moving to come.  I also wondered how they know at the end if baby has moved to the right position.
  • If it helps anyone's fears-it's 100% normal to be breech now. Most babies go head down around 36 weeks. Some flip by themselves even later.

I have a compendium of research studies on breech babies, and the biggest risk factors for breech babies are:

    -preemies, because they haven't flipped
-those with separated or bicornate uteruses, because that shape keeps babies breech
-babies with muscle tone issues or problems moving their lower limbs, as it's strong kicking that generally rotates them head down
-people with short torsos slightly more likely, because baby can get lodged breech early
-Very very short umbilical cords so that baby is stuck up in their position
-First time moms or athletes with very strong core muscles, as stronger muscles can prevent baby from flipping
-large babies that are frank breech because it's not a good position for kicking strongly
-Third or more babies wider previous babies were breech at term

So, keep in mind you can't control ANY of these things. There's nothing wrong with encouraging them to flip in any natural way you want-it can help. Less than 5% of babies are still breech at full term, and most of them fall into one or more of the categories above. Also, many other countries regularly deliver frank or complete breech babies vaginal regularly. There are risks for sure, but there are similar risks for c section too, for both mom and baby. My c section with my breech boy contributed to his lung problems, and his head still got stuck during delivery, for quite a while.

There's no one right answer for anyone of course, but I always figure more knowledge means better choices available to you.

This baby could be my vaginal breech VBAC. Could. My midwife and I have already discussed abilities.

  • @pourmeanothermocktail this is good information! thank you!

One of my twins has been foot down breech and the other has been transverse at each scan so far. Both of my other babies were vertex -- uncomplicated vaginal deliveries. I hope that twins still have space to flip -- I'm short and short torsoed. I hadn't really realized how attached I was to at least trying to labor with this delivery until it really started seeming like I won't (of course, I'm only 26 weeks at the moment).

I guess I should start trying inversions, it couldn't hurt.
  • @pirateduck a little late on the toilet cleaning comment, but we also have hard water and have toilet ring stains for the bathrooms that aren't used as often, and the pumice stone toilet cleaner thing was a life saver for us.  Just another option, and I'll have to try your solution as well!!

Regarding baby's position she was breech at the 20 week scan, transverse at 24 week follow up and then transverse at our elective ultrasound last week at 27 weeks.  I can definitely feel some strong kicks down low.  I'm also curious about when/how babies move and when to be concerned because DD1 was head down at her 20 week scan so I never even really gave it much thought for her.

As far as symptoms my legs have been so extremely tired lately. My calves are just exhausted and I have a desk job so I'm not even sure what the problem is.  Friday I was ready for bed at 7:30 just because I couldn't deal with my legs anymore.
  • My latest symptoms have been insane dreams, even when I swear I’m just laying there not even sleeping!

I also wake up every morning so unbelievably stuffed up and my mouth is so dry I can hardly even swallow to get water down. My husband and I are sleeping on different floors of the house because my snoring is so bad 🤣 in fact today I was laying on the couch watching tv AWAKE and realized I was snoring.

I’m also already having some leaking from my boobs. That’s a cool symptom no one told me was possible. Man did I freak out at first until I hopped on the google machine 🤣
  • @bender29 I collected the colostrum in syringes when I was pregnant with DD, I read that it's recommended in the UK for moms with GD so they have it for baby when born. I only was able to collect maybe 5 mls but did give it to DD when she was born. I was kind of hoping DD nursing still meant I would be able to collect more this time around, but it seems I have dried up or at least can't get anything about by hand expressing. I'm hoping at some point it will come back and I'll be able to collect or when I get closer to delivery I will try out pumping to see if I can get anything out. I still have plenty of syringes left from when I did it with DDs pregnancy.

    @pourmeanothermocktail
I wish I had done more research with DDs breech pregnancy instead of just research to try and get her to flip. Had I known better I would have decided that they wouldn't schedule me a c-section at 39 weeks and I would wait until I went into labor on my own so that she still had time to flip on her own. I believe, even though I'm not athletic, that my stomach muscles really stopped DD from flipping, especially during my ECV. I couldn't relax them enough to let the OB flip her and my stomach just kept tensing up and fighting their movements. If I need an ECV attempt this time, I am going to ask for an epidural so that hopefully I won't feel it as much and allow them to flip the baby.

  • Baby is definitely growing because my back pain & my exhaustion have surged in the past couple days. I spent most of yesterday half-asleep in bed. Yet my body felt like I have been doing manual labor for hours. I did do some yoga to loosen things up but my back is still tight. Anxious to see how big this bump will get  :#

  • @jhysmath I had read about doing that, but I’ve also read that hand expressing or pumping can cause early contractions/labor. Since I’m having twins it already puts me at risk for preterm labor, I didn’t want to take any chances.
  • @bender29 that makes sense, not sure how much you're leaking, but maybe a passive collection device like milk savers would work, I think having it in case of preterm labor would be very beneficial. I know when I "leaked" it was more just a drop at a time so that wouldn't work for me, I needed to express.
  • I'm a few pages late to this thread, but most recent symptoms align with a lot of everyone else's here:

    - pregnancy insomnia / weird dreams
    - boobs are starting to get sore (no leaking yet... but definitely sore so I know it's coming)
    - I have a really uncomfortable pain along my lower left side under my uterus/above my public bone. I'm not sure if it's RLP or just a pulled muscle, but MAN it hurts, and it's been going on for a few days. I'm going to yoga tonight and hopefully it gets stretched out or I can at least confirm with the woman what the feeling is. Definitely feels muscle-like in nature and nothing to do with digestion or contractions or anything.
  • @jhysmath I can completely believe your muscles made turning hard! Second pregnancy, looser muscles! Wishing you luck.

@allie456 and @bender29 Twins can be tricky! My doctor will deliver twins vaginal if twin A is head down, because second baby can usually be flipped easily once A is born, and is okay delivering twin B breech vaginal, as obviously it's clear heads are fitting through. Both being transverse obviously doesn't work, but definitely time to move!

@bananapanda 37 weeks is usually the time to consider an ECV if baby has been consistently breech or transverse. Most babies do not engage earlier than that, and flip around quite a bit before. The fact that it's your second, and your first was vertex gives you excellent chances for another head down baby! The strongest correlation seems to be baby's ability to kick hard enough that the heavy part (head) follows gravity, and the parts taking up more space (legs and butt) move to where things are generally more open and stretchy (top of uterus, away from cervix and pelvic bones). Preemies (less strong, and less cramped in space) are more likely to be breech, just because they haven't turned YET. Frank breech position can interfere because it puts feet by head, which usually makes forceful kicks harder, and makes head plus feet need more space than just butt, so they can get wedged there (my first was this way, and he shoved so hard with his feet into my ribs that he locked his butt into my cervix and pelvis early). Babies with muscular or skeletal differences can have a hard time too (down syndrome can can low muscle tone/strength, and genetic things that lead to dwarfism or missing/short lower limbs are big ones on this list). Short torso and very strong abdominals can affect, but again, the more babies you have, the lower the chance.

  • @pourmeanothermocktail thanks, that is helpful!  Yes, DD1 was head down but was sunny side up and was manually turned while I was in labor.  At least according to what DH and my mom said because I was pretty out of it after the epidural.

To note-you can Google "Spinning Babies" or "Miles Circuit" to find two great websites on things you can do to set yourself and baby up for success for being head down and facing your back instead of your front! Doing the activities there, seeing a chiropractor and acupuncture can all help too, and it won't encourage baby to flip if they're already in good position. If doing things like that sounds helpful to anyone, it can't hurt at all.

  • @mamaqdubu my pain goes just above my pubic bone and I'm feeling like it's probably SPD. I just bought a belt and I'm hoping that helps. Have you tried one?
  • Past few days I've had a sharpish pain at the top of my bump. I'm guessing it's  baby girl sitting high irritating something. DD always sat high too but I can't remember this pain.
  • @lisush I have a belly band, but I find it pretty uncomfortable. I need to look into  different brand I think. What did you get?
  • @mamaqdubu I ordered this one but it hasn't come in yet. So I can't say whether it works or not. There are a lot of different bands that are much more supportive than just a regular belly band. No idea how it will be with my clothes though :/

  • As a longtime SPD sufferer, I can't say enough good about the Cabea brand sport belt, and I got the groin straps with it.

I had one similar to the photo above for my first two pregnancies and it was only OK, plus too scratchy to wear under clothes and it pinched when I sat, so I had to take it on and off constantly.

The new one was pricey, but I can just disconnect groin straps and pull the whole thing over bump to pee, and put it back down when I stand up, and it doesn't pinch or ride up, plus it supports better. I have maybe 6 bands at home, and it's the only one I bother with.

  • So for now I have no aches or pains, but I'm in bed all day long so I would say that my upper back pain has to do with that. However, the most annoying part is restless leg syndrome. It keeps me awake during the first part of the night. I can't exercise, as I'm on bedrest so I have no clue what else I could try. Anyone dealing with this? Have you found anything that works?
  • My whole body hurts.  All my joints are killing me and every time I roll over in bed (which is constant) I get snaps and pops from my hips and spine.  I don’t think they are all good cracks either and it feels like I’m being stabbed with knives.  Good times.  I can’t figure out if all my stretching at this point is actually making things better or worse.  Ugh.
  • @pourmeanothermocktail that's good information about the Cabea. I'm finding that the Velcro on my belly band is so itchy and pinchy and it folds in half so by the end of the day it's much less supportive. Still better than nothing but glad to know there's another option that works better.

@pustiulari that sounds totally miserable! I have never been on bed rest but I imagine even cat cows or similar yoga stretches might help?

Anyone have thoughts on compression socks/tights? How much compression to get and any good brands? The swelling in my legs and feet has to be dealt with before I get too much bigger.
  • @allie456 honestly for compression sock and a support belt I would ask your doctor.  I believe both are things that can be “prescribed” and there’s a chance your insurance will cover it, and if not, HSA funds could be used.  You might get something more heavy duty too.  I have compression socks I got through my orthopaedic for an ankle injury that are great.
  • I feel I'm subconsciously a hypochondriac or something. Came on here and read about the pelvic pain and now I have wicked bad pelvic pain. Not sure what did it but it's not my hips like it normally is it's the front of my pelvis. Baby's movements have changed too so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. It's like a terrible achy feeling.
  • @pustiulari I've had a little bit of restless legs sporadically. I know that it can be caused by low iron, maybe if you mention it to the doctor they can see about giving you some iron to help? I end up just drinking some water and massaging my legs to help.

  • So my nipples have been tender this entire time.  I switched to wearing nursing nightgowns which have some padding in the boobs so I don't want to fight DD every time she smacks me in the boob.  But now my entire boobs are just super tender and sore like they were earlier on.  Oh the joys
  • @pustiulari It might be worth it to ask your doctor about safe bed rest exercises to help with your legs and back.
  • @pustiulari magnesium supplements can help restless legs!

@jhysmath Sounds like it could be early SPD. My pain generally lives in my pubic arch, like front center crotch bone. Narrow stance squats can help muscles get stronger to help keep things supported, chiropractor can help if you're not too loose and just fell out of alignment, and keeping your knees together as much as possible while weight bearing, and usually knees apart and feet up while sitting. Just general tips of course.

My personal experience with maybe 5-6 different care providers is that they don't prescribe belts at least, and have no clue about which ones might help different people or issues. Or I would have gotten a much better one right off the bat. You can usually use HSA or similar accounts to pay for them, the same way OTC medicine can be purchased.

I know nothing about compression socks.

I'll talk to my MW about it on Thursday and perhaps start going to the chiro I really don't want to because the only one who can do the webster technique and deal with pregnancy is 1.5 hours away and last pregnancy I wasn't able to align my MW appointment with him very well so I had to take two days off and then sitting for 1.5 hour drive back isn't good after the appointment either.
